2010 Unemployment Extension and Emergency Unemployment Benefits Bill

The 2010 unemployment extension hasn't been passed.  The unemployment extension 2010 and emergency unemployment benefits is at the heart of the American people. There are many Senators on both sides of the fence that want legislation passed, but it is hard to come to a compromise that makes both sides of the partisan lines happy.

Both Debbie Stabenow, a Democrat and Olympia Snowe, a Republican, want a standalone bill.  Snowe will likely back a standalone bill even if it does add to deficit spending.  She previously failed to back the American Jobs and Closing Tax Loopholes Act of 2010 because it contained provisions she feels would be detrimental to small businesses.

Whether or not the unemployment issue will hit the Senate Floor this week before they adjourn for the Fourth of July holiday hasn't been widely made known.  Not only are there the confirmation hearings for Obama's Supreme Court nominee, there is also a push to pass financial reform legislation before the break.

In addition, the death of Senator Robert Byrd has also shaken the Senate and has taken one democrat away from the majority.  His vote would have been crucial to legislation if such legislation was opposed by Republicans.  This will change the landscape of the Senate even if only temporarily.

Hopefully the Emergency Unemployment Benefits bill will pass - either in its current form or as a standalone measure. There's likely few Americans who aren't willing or supportive of helping their fellow Americans out during a time of need.

  1. This entire situation is reprehensible, but it is not just the Republicans who are looking at the Fall Elections. Their actions are appealing to many voters ( though immoral, in my opinion )and will certainly gain them votes with their employed or rich base. What is being missed by many, is the fact that this manuever is to the Democrats' advantage, also. How could that be? If you fall off the Unemployment numbers, by no longer being eligible for benefits, and reverting to the shadowy numbers, the press and the majority of the uniformed masses, will be proclaiming the miracle of the Economic Recovery/Stimulus Package. Everyone must continue to file, whether eligible or not. Without filing, the numbers fall (artificially). If this doesn't pass now, everyone needs to keep filing, or we will all be the faceless, homeless, living under the bridge, soon to be a majority of the population.

How much money did Senators earn selling our jobs?

    America is in trouble

Americans have blindly turned control of the country to a thieving international group of bankers called "THE FEDERAL RESERVE BANK"

PLEASE google "who owns the federal reserve bank"

PLEASE google "US DOLLAR TO BE REPLACED"

You will then be awakened to this hostile take over of America

  4. I am about to go on a job interview 60 miles from home. The job would start in August, long-term, but I still need my benefits to survive until then. So I did my part. I at least got an interview and drove 60 miles and will have to move here too. So see, we all just need a little more time......

  7. Not only are they taking away our dignity by making us beg for what is ours now they want to cut us off at the knees by introducing three different bills that the other side will probably dissagree with. To the u.s. Senate and house please don't think about how you dislike each other just pass a bill and let us get some food on our tables and pay our rent.

  8. All this is just physically draining, demoralizing and nauseating! I'm so tired of waiting for our government, the people that work for US, to help the American people that need it most. It is truly a sad time for the American people. We all need to remember this time, the hurt and emotional roller coaster ride that our government has put us on, no matter what the outcome. They may not be united, but we can be!!

  12. I was at least making my bills with the benifits that I WAS getting....I am now very seriously contemplating bankrupcy. This is what the government wants is for all of us pions to be under their thumb!! I was going to school, while I still had the benifits, to re-educate myself into a different field...the benifits stopped, so, I had to stop classes.....I don't have money to put gas in my car (which I am about to default on) to drive to the school.
What I want to know is, with all of us not paying taxes....where is the money for their paychecks comming from....OH, that's right...from the countries that have our jobs now and the oil countries....forgive me, I think I'm a good candidate for PTSD because of all of this!!!!

  16. Ok here it is the Republicans have come with a plan to pay for the extension, half with stimulu monies, and half with emergency monies. Senator Reid has been reportedly said no. Well this is the next move Republicans need to come out publicly for this measure. Mr Reid and his friends have been calling all day, work with us, here is your chance both side stand up for the people. Put the past, all of it, in the past. Again this is a win, win situation, everone save face and the people win too, which is the most inportant thing. why cann't you see that :(

  17. Every morning I awake to run to the computer and hopefully to see that this bill has passed only to reep the disappointing outcome. My boyfriend's job position was eliminated 2 years ago, had no luck finding a job, was on unemployment, found a job at minimum pay, went off unemployment, months later was laid off. He went back to the unemployment office 5 weeks ago for this extension and needless to say has had no pay or income for rent, utilities, gas, or food for himself or his son with special needs or his 12 year old daughter. It saddens me deeply to witness such turmoil for someone I love dearly. The only conclusion I keep coming to is all of those in Congress obviously would not know a hard time if it hit them square between the eyes.

To all of you that know someone in need right now, be there for them in anyway you can. Now is certainly a time for America to join together in support of our neighbor(s). God Bless Us All.

It's summer time and how sad is to tell your kids that you can't take them out to have fun because you just don't have money. In my opinion it will be great to have the security of having some money coming in (unemployment) until the end of year.

  22. Enough already. Pass the bill. I don't much care which pot of money it comes from, it is all borrowed for in the end. Stop messing people's lives. I hope these Senators soon feel for themselves or through their loved ones and friends just what it is like to be unemployed. This isn't a choice and for those who say it is, you have no regard for humanity.

Maybe, pointing out some of the financial things going on, the politics behind the failure to extend benefits and highlighting some of the more poignent stories, someone could put together a petition and we could break it up between states and make sure that a few people in each state have a copy and get signatures and get it off to their senators and representatives?

  31. What the Republican Senators do not understand at all, is that there are millions of registered Republicans voters, who through no fault of their own, are now unemployed. For the Republican Senators to continue to show, week after week, no mercy, no sympathy, neither empathy, nor consideration to the plight of members of their own voting base, who are barely surviving on the $450.00 a week they receive in employment insurance is unforgivable and now diabolical. I am so absolutely disguised with my own Republican Party, that for the first time in my life, I would not only vote for a Democrat replacement Senator this fall, I would vote straight ticket Democrat all the way and call it a day!
The deficit of an unemployed household is horrifying and I can assure you heartless Republicans in Congress that it is much more terrifying to the unemployed then the National deficit is to you. Tell me, how can a family of five survive on $450.00 and now nothing thanks to you? How can we go to the grocery store and get a week’s worth of food, plus fill the gas tank up to go job hunting, take the kids to school, take one child to a doctor, that we now pay for in cash since we lost our health issuance, get the prescription filled, buy dog food and set aside the left over pennies for rent, utilities, car repairs, braces payments, etc?
My family has never asked for a hand out. For three months of last year I went to a food bank and stood in line for five hours to get a box of random canned goods, and still have not thought of applying for food stamps! To think we used to hold Republican precinct meetings in our home. What home now, the banks home? I have worked tirelessly on multiple Republican campaigns and for what, abandonment, disgrace and disregard? When you Republicans voted No the last three consecutive times to not extend unemployment benefits, you have taken the food right out of my three children's mouth. There is nowhere for us to cut back. I am a fiscal conservative for God’s sake!
I wish like hell we could vote your arrogance out of office and then you could try to live on $450.00 a week and support your wife and three kids on that. But what I wish for more than anything is that I could then vote to take it away from you without warning! If you Republicans believe in the same God I do, I pray He resigns down on you an Eye for an Eye. And because I have faith the size of a mustard seed in Him, which is 1000% more faith that I have left in your heartless folly, I know that He will.

Sincerely Yours, One of a Million+++ Disenfranchised Republican Unemployed Voters.

  32. Yesterday and today I have posted a list about the basic expenses that is essential for unemployed. Have you read it? If not, please read, and I am 100% right about this list:

    How unemployment check gets spent?
    1) Rent to have a roof over
    1) Food to eat so that we can look for work and don't die
    3) Internet connection: to look for job in Craigslist, monster, career builder, dice, etc, and so that recruiters can contact us
    4) Phone) So that companies can call us and do a telephone interview
    5) Cleaning material: soap, shampoo, laudry, etc so that at interview we look ok and not like a criminal
    6) Toothpaste: to clean teeth as there is no dentist
    7) Hair Cut ( i have not got a hair cut in last 5 months)
    8) Other necessities: so that we can live humanly while we don't have our job.

To fulfill the above basic list, a survival expense guide for an unemployed, we need to have unemployment.

  34. To all fellow unemployed suffering in this economy:
There is a website called change.org where one can start a petition. Someone has started a petition on the immediate passage of unemployment extensions. Please follow this link at the end of this comment and sign this petition. By signing it an email will be sent to all appropriate politicians from you. Last time I looked there were over 6000 signatures on this petition. Word is that this petition has the attention of some politicians including the president. The writer of this petition recently emailed me and told me he received a letter from Republican Senator Olympia Snowe in which she said she would break the filibuster if the bill was presented as a “stand- alone” jobless aide bill.
    See article: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/06/25/AR2010062504933.html
I have seen this petition gain a lot of momentum in the last 2 to 3 days. I am writing this as a word document so I can copy and paste it to every online article about unemployment extension legislation I visit. I know that (like me) there are many unemployed Americans who are frequently checking for updates on this legislation. What I ask of you is to do the following:
    1. Copy, paste and save this into a word document.
    2. Every time you visit a website with an article about unemployment extension legislation copy and paste this from your word document to the comment section of the article.
    3. Follow the link below and sign this petition. http://www.change.org/petitions/view/we_demand_an_immediate_passage_of_bill_hr_4213_extension_of_unemployment_benefits
    4. Ask for your friends and family that support your position to sign the petition by sending them a personal email with the link above attached. Ask your spouse or other qualified household members who will support you to sign the petition.
Note: If someone in your household decides to support you, you must logout of Change.org in order for the petition form to open for a new signature.

  37. While it is true that many American manufacturing jobs have been lost overseas due to various trade agreements and outsourcing, the real culprit(s) have flown quietly under the radar.

The Culprits are the private equity firms such as KKR, Blackstone Group, Carlye Group, Apollo Investments, Cerberus, etc.....the activities of these firms have had more of an impact on the loss of domestic jobs. These firms for more then 2 decades have had a seemingly unlimited supply of credit(debt). So they have over leveraged (borrowed) to acquire some of America's leading businesses. Once acquired, in order to service their heavy debt loads, they have laid off the American workforce. This fact also precludes any time of economic recovery or growth in the economy, because these companies are not hiring. For the most part, they handle all of their general personnel
    needs through temporary employment firms.

To recoup their money, for a profit, and to repay debt, they usually move to re-take these companies public at the appropriate time which means that they continue to make sure of the profit of those companies - the dividends to their shareholders which includes the principals of all of these firms, thus workers are not being rehired.

Further, you will find that all of the major banks have private equity arms(usually under a different name then their bank brand name) which compete and in many instances, co-invest with the above mentioned firms.

This is really why the situation in America is more dire than many have been willing to discuss. The American economy is currently in recession, but will in all likelihood move to depression before recovery.

Why do I say this? 1)The federal reserve has made the discount rate(the rate in which banks borrow, to relend)the lowest its have been in years. This act is intend to give banks the incentive to lend --- yet banks are not lending to business nor consumers; 2)There are no jobs being created in the private sector for many of the reasons mentioned above. As a result, various stimulus -back to work- actions as those proposed by the Obama administration are a type of workaround. But because of political partisism and in fighting those initiatives have/are being blocked.

No matter a black or white president; democrat or republic, the government intervention has a place in times such as these. These types of initiatives are what assisted America to come out of the Great Depression of 1932; as well as, similar initiatives utilized by Truman in building America's current interstate highway system.

So really, guys like Rush Limbaugh and Glen Beck serve as devisive forces in their propaganda programs and hate mongering. It prevents the American people from really seeing what is going on before their eyes and keeps the whole issue muddled in the press.

I am sure that Congress will eventually do the right thing, but don't rest assured. American must really take a new look at how they are living their lives and begin to take the appropriate steps, like downsizing and getting out of debt. Perhaps find a way to make money for you and your family by serving your fellow man/woman in terms of providing them with various needed products and services.

The time is fact approaching where American's will no longer be able to survive off of Pharoah's economy for Pharoah has all of the resources of the land stored up into his on grain silos. Like it or not our Congress are elected by the people, but they are paid by Pharoah and are generally dependent on Pharoah for their sustinance.

I know there are a few misspelled words here, but hopefully you follow the gest of this alert.

  39. How can you get a job? You are willing to take anything, actually get an interview, everything goes well, but then, you get told you are over qualified! You are a dependable, loyal worker. You've stayed with the same company over 25 years. You get replaced by two part time workers, so the company can save money and increase their profits! Companies hire younger people in hopes of more years of service and a healthier employee. Minimum wages aren't enough to support a family! Assistance is limited! Instead of only looking for a job, you decide to go to school to try to make this time into a positive time. You choose a field to study where there is a great demand; more education is the way to go was campaigned by the President. Then, now that you are there, sorry...you are on your own. What will happen to the welfare system if all the unemployed have to get welfare? You're more or less screwed if you don't have a minor child in your house.

  42. One of the posters on here said that they knew someone that worked at the employment agency and that people are really not looking for jobs, as long as they are getting unemployment. I have thought about that a lot and the more I think about her "opinion" the angrier I get. I have looked under every nook and cranny out there trying to find employment. I have stomped the pavement, used up gas money I didn't have, and emailed everyone and their dog begging for a job. I have tremendous skills and years and years of experience. My last employment duties would normally take 2 to 3 people to perform, yet I did the work single handedly and succussfully. I am SO TIRED of begging prospective employers for a job when they would be very fortunate to have me. I can't tell you how depressed, angry, and hopeless I am feeling. Any of you who are judging us, you will be next. So you better work on your karma opinions. That employment worker with her opinion, if they don't pass the extension, may soon be out of a job herself. Unemployment offices will certainly need less people. Then I can say that SHE really didn't want a job...

  43. Billions were spent on bailing out the banks, and they still don't know where all the money went. Dont get me started on how much the war in Iraq, and now Afghanistan is costing daily. Here is a thought...........There is a lot of oil that needs cleaned up, and I say that we demand BP to hire all the people they can, on unemployment to clean the beaches, send them bus tickets. Oh I forgot, its mid term elections coming up, and the politicians are using that for their playground. Jobs are out there, but maybe not in my part of the country. I live in a city of 28,000 and there were only around a dozen adds for jobs in my our local newspaper. Never has Congress shot down EUB when the unemployment rate is so high........and on a last note-

If they dont pass it soon, there may be those who are hopeless, depressed, and scared of losing everything they have worked for, to banish weapons and attempt to help send those politicians to hell a little quicker.

  44. Justification for TIER * for infinite time(TIERs should continue till the unemployment rate goes down to 8%-9% in California or in any state):

I believe TIER 5 should pass. Until unemployment rate fall below 8-9% in California or in any state, there should be Tiers. Even if the unemployment rate were above 8% at August 2011, we should have unemployment then: we should have TIER *(should continue till economy is normal).

What are the reasons for my assertions?

    High unemployment rate means
    > more competition for one job,
    > that companies are searching for Einsteins to make rockets,
    > that there are less jobs,
    > that few people are spending as they have less money.

The above line justifies the "Tsunamic" effect on economy.

    > Less people are spending --- means less profit on business and less tax revenue
    > Less hiring from companies as banks are giving less loans as banks have less money
    > companies are hiring less as they don't have work as there is less people to give them a work or project, and, also, they are not having a big loan from the bank

    How to solve this?
    > Americans need to spend more, but how Americans could if they don't even have money for a roof, for food?

If there were no unemployment, people will die; grocery stores will be bankrupt: more tidal waves will be coming.... And when the tidal wave does a significant, monstrous, damage, I guess, then "THEY" will understand.

But by then, will we be here? I hope, we do. I hope we be here, and fight this *uc**ers because we don't want us and our country to fail.

So when there enjoying this 4th of july, for so many americans it will be a day to look back on, a day where a lot of us couldnt have those back yard BBQ;s or afford to get to the firework shows. I'm ashamed to admit that we have a government who wants to see there people suffer instead of thrive.

  46. Where will this end? If we don't have money we will not be able to afford a car, gas, etc. to even look for a job. That, of course, is if you can even get an interview! I read today about a corrupt government in Africa - soon we will be on that list. STOP SENDING OUR JOBS TO OTHER COUNTRIES. I hope everyone sees the whole picture - the (rich) Repubicans have to go!!!

  48. They just gave away the store to the financial industry so they store is empty. No more employees or consumers. Unemployment went the way of democracy.

    ReplyDelete
  49. please don't go away for the 4th and leave the unemployed still stressed out.how can u even enjoy the 4th,knowing your fellow americans are in such a state.while the senators are having a big party on the 4th-the unemployed will be happy to have a bowl of macaroni!u should be ashamed of yourselves-i know i would and so would our forefathers who fought so hard for us to have a 4th of july!! if i had a job and paperwrk was haned to me marked urgent and after weeks!! i still have not completed the paperwrk-i would be fired!!!!!!!!!!!

  50. Someone stated that we will become the faceless - that is already the case. Look around you and see all the people who still have jobs treating you like you don't want to work and if you wanted to you could.....blah, blah, blah. They have no compassion for others. I know people who have gone on vacations, still shopping for things they don't need, but would NEVER BUY groceries for a neighbor or friend they know is struggling. Selfishness is at an all time high.

  51. I am one of the many temporary Census employees that have been laid off. My position lasted 10 weeks, and held off my using my last 2 remaining weeks of unemployment. Well, as I use my last 2 weeks of unemployment, I will no longer be able to keep up on my bills, nor can I afford food. My husband makes too much money (HA!) for food stamps, or other programs. I don't want a handout, just some help. The job situation here in Flint is appalling. What kind of future do I have?

  52. The republican’s weren’t worried about the deficit when that big insurance company and their friends the Wall Street execs were giving themselves bonuses with taxpayer money!!! Next election – let Congress feel the sting of the unemployment lines!!! No more raping and pillaging the middle class!!! – How many years have you paid taxes? 30? 40? Your government bails out bankers and Wall Street execs using your tax dollars – but unemployment is allowed to expire? What happened to "by the people" or "for the people"? Or are the big campaign contributors the only "people" who count to congress? They are playing games AGAIN FOR THE THIRD TIME while you are wondering how to feed your kids? Figure it out! Malfeasance – Failure of a public official to perform their duties!!! Next Election MAKE YOURSELF MATTER BY VOTING!!! 10% unemployment carries 10% of the vote! Use it!! Fire them all next election or recall every Congress member NOW for Malfeasance – Failure of a public official to perform their duties!!! Next Election - Lets get people elected who actually represent all the People- this current congress represents only special interest groups!

  53. I just took a job that I am very overqualified for, because I'd been relentlessly searching for months and found nothing. However, now that I have a new (crappy) job, how am I supposed to get to work? I can't even afford gas to get there, much less food for the time before I get paid. I just feel fortunate that I don't have children. I can't even imagine not being able to feed my kids.

  60. First the republicans screw up the economy with a series of regulatory blunders, causing 8 million people to loose their jobs. Then they think their best course of action is to cut unemployment compensation to these people, hoping they blame it on the democrats and vote republican in the next election. Guess what...it ain't going to happen. Nobody is that stupid.

Yesterday I ran out of tea bags, so, I went out into the yard and picked some ground ivy, that's what I had for breakfast...it also gave me the diarreha, i'll have to forage in the fields to come up with something else.
I would apply for foodstamps, but don't have the gas to get there or to the store if I did have them.
Jesus said to pray for your enemies...I pray for our politicians every day.
You may think that I am kidding about the foods that I'm eating....trust me, I'm not!!!!

  71. You cannot file once you fall off. I have not been able to file since June 2. There is no link when you run out of money to file. I have drawn for 79 weeks and that is not full pay. I look everyday and call on people. I went to a meeting for a sales training position ( never sold in my life and this is commission only pay) so how to you pay for gas, clothes and traveling until you sell? Therefore, I called upon 1 place I had put my application and resume in for a posted position. I introduced myself to the hiring manager, but I was told she is still wanting to collect more resume. I have all the qualifications and would be very good at this position. So, why can't I get her to interview me?? I was dressed very professional also. Need jobs..... I look everyday and it gets to be depressing. So many jobs are posted that you would think we would all be hire and have a job. Are these real jobs. I feel like it is my age even though people say I look great for my age. Need work

  74. We have a VOICE and a VOTE!

Signing a petition can help, but I urge anyone reading this to send emails and call your Senators/Congressmen AND the Republican Senators blocking a stand alone Unemployment Extension Benefits Bill NOW!

--The key Republicans blocking the Bill in the Senate that have the most influence are: Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, Dave Camp of Michigan, John Boehner of Ohio, Kevin Brady of Texas. Tell all your friends and family to send emails and call these Senate Republicans blocking this Bill to urge them to vote "Yes" on the next extension Bill and let them know that there's such as thing as – Backlash!

Let them know that their action is saying they think it’s more important to cut back on financial aide to Americans who have lost their jobs than it is to cut back on the "billions of aide" spent over 7 years to fund the War. Make it known that even if you don't have a job, you have a vote! And you will "Vote Out the Incumbents" in the Senate and Congress in November! This is bipartisan and is going to affect both Republicans Democrats without jobs!

In my opinion they're voting against American citizens and their families. It appears that our elected gov't representatives think they can play politics with our lives during this recession. We are educated and unemployed and we have a voice and a vote. This is Big and as each month passes another 1 million American voters and their families will lose their benefits. This will have a dramatic effect our economy if some sort of extension Bill doesn't get passed soon. Again, make it known that even if you don't have a job, you have a vote! And you will "Vote Out the Incumbents" in the Senate and Congress in November!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Thanks...But, I still would not have a way to get to the store to spend the foodstamps.

  130. I worked from Sept. 2002 thru Jan 2009. I believe I paid $30K into the Unemployment Insurance program. It is sad that I am given only ~11K as benefits. I think the way it should work is that if I paid 30K into that fund, I should be allowed to get 30K from that fund.

Otherwise, it is like getting health benefits equaling 1/3 of all the premiums paid in.

It took me a 12 months after 9/11 to find a job and I am sure it will take me longer to find the right job this time around.

God help America, I feel this is one of the worse times ever (at least in my lifetime)

Well, I don't have much to loose. I already lost my home to foreclosure. Why would any of the republicans care after all it is my fault that I got a house with a loan that I cannot afford after a job loss. Yup! My fault.

  148. Message sent to McConnell;

Mr. McConnell - Can you please help me understand why, you guys will not quit playing political games, with our Lives. I am a Long Time Republican, I can not stand what the Democrats have done to this country, but with what you Republicans are doing on Unemployment Extension and several other points of concern is beyond me. You guys SAY you want to stop deficit spending, and want to save money, but you yourself have Multiple offices, just like every other Senator, in the U.S., you collect a very large check from the Tax payers, yet you are a Millionaire. You guys are catered to, with Food, perks from the lobbyists, this reminds me of the Preacher that pulls up to his Church in his Cadillac, wearing a 3 -piece suit, while the people paying for that Cadillac, his home, his cell phone, his landscaper, his clothes, his utility Bills, his Kids college, and so on, pull up in their beaten down vehicles, barely able to afford gas to get there. This is just NOT RIGHT. I want the Republicans back in control, but if you guys do not get it together and help the people that help you get there, there is 100% no way we will vote Republican. People are going crazy, because of your decisions, literally crazy, they can not stand to look at their starving chldren, there wife that cries every night, because she is unsure how they are going to make it any longer. Why dont all the Rich Senators stop taking a check all together? Why don't you shut down multiple offices, why dont you tell the Lobyists take whaatever they were going to give you, to give it to your communities? Why don't you HELP? The way the Senators appear on C-SPAN sickens me. I can not smile any longer, I am always depressed, then there you guys are, on C-SPAN, Laughing having a Wonderful time, and then you get serious when it is your time to speak on T.V. . This deeply hurts RED BLOODED LEGAL AMERICANS, it also pisses them off, when we see this. Why don't you crack down on the FRAUD commited by the ILEGALL immigrants collecting taxes on kids that arent theirs, why don't you stop the fraud of Illegals getting Food stamps, WICK, and other Welfare only supposed to be offered to LEGAL CITIZENS of the United States of America. Why don't you quit playing games, and come and see your people face to face,a time while you are not asking for their vote, and see how they are hurting? Why don't you look at the crying children, infants and tell them why Daddy shot his self because he couldnt stand to see his family suffer anymore, or why mommy can not buy them a small toy, food, or anything else for that matter. Why don't you just HELP?

  149. I, nor my two children, have eaten in three days. I am totally broke and have no gas in my car to even drive to an interview should one magically come my way. All utilities in my home have been shut off for non-payment (how can I pay when I have no money). I desperately need help and I pray that Congress will have compassion and help those of us in so much need. I fear the end is very, very near.

  150. We are scared and worried out here and we need this bill passed. With our 2 senators being Republican they voted against the extension. I have always been a Republican but I am going to remember this come election day. The unemployment rate in the state of GA is 10.2% higher than the nation with 9.7%.

I agree that we don’t need to increase the national debt, but there are hard working Americans from the state of GA as well as the rest of the US who helped make this country great that now need help until we the economy gets going. We can spent money on the war in Afghanistan, bail out the banks for their mistakes, how about helping the Americans in our country that have paid their taxes, worked when their was work who now are in trouble. We are hanging on by a thread.
I was amazed that 2 Democratic Senators, Maria Cantwell (St of Washington) and Senator Russ Feingold (St of Wisconsin) voted against the Emergency Unemployment Extension. It is interesting to know that the unemployment rate for the state of Washington is 8.7 and the state of Wisconsin is 7.7. The logic here from these 2 Democratic senators must be My states unemployment rate is acceptable so forget the people of my state because the unemployment is not high enough. This is an insult to the unemployed folks of Washington and Wisconsin and to the rest of the Demacrats of the United States

  151. Will one side please give on this issue? The unemployed are not just numbers to be politically juggled around; we are real people that need help. If we were in another country our congress would trip over each other to send money, why are our own people viewed so differently?

The republicans have made their beds and they will lay in them come November for good or bad. Why don’t the Democrats have a huge public relations push and fund half the bill? They would come out looking like heroes to both the unemployed and deficit hawks. It would show economic sense and compassion toward humanity. Even if all the republicans vote for a half funded bill the American people know the truth about the fight the republicans put up at our expense. Democrats should be warned though the longer this goes on and people have to worry about their next meal or where to live they too will be viewed as the enemy because they could simply meet half way and get this passed.

I have read several reports stating that unemployment insurance money goes straight into the economy and I know first-hand that it does. What does congress think will happen to our countries already fragile economy without this money being spent? My best guess is more layoffs and job elimination.

If congress has the audacity to take their week holiday vacation without an extension being passed it shows the total corruption and destruction of “our” government and will prove that our system is broke beyond repair on both sides of the isle. They all should be voted out, because even if they supported the extension they did not do enough to get it done and still decided they needed their week long vacation.

  152. It's too sad nobody cares... even the US President! If he does, this should have never happened in the 1st place. He should have pushed both parties to work on this issue and agree on a solution! All he did for the past week is BP, which is another failure and photo op with the Russian Pres.

Bottom line, there's very poor leadership.

  155. I'm at a loss for words, I can't believe these folks are going on recess again leaving this many Americans in desperate need of help, help they refuse to give because of some political principle.

Calling them names and cussing them is no consolation... I'm stunned they have done this to their fellow Americans, again. When will we learn and quit sending them back to Washington every election cycle.

We need change...they all need to go, Dems and Repubs. All of them.

  158. Come re-elections this is going to be a time remembered! Maybe realization will set in when crime rates go through the roof, and they cant turn to law enforcement because they have all been layed off. I wonder how they sleep at night thinking they are doing good or making a difference. I would like to see them in our position. Citizens going homeless and children going hungry. One big round of applause for leadership! Together you will bring this country to the top, enojy your vacations!

  159. Remember the Democrats objected to the 2 month emergency fund the Republicans offered. If they really wanted to help us they would have agreed until the bill is passed. Looks like the Democrats threw us under the bus. Republicans will agree to the extension if it is paid for with stimulus money...what's wrong with that? If the money is there use it. If the Democrats really wanted to help then Obama would have already approved the bill...after all he is the President!

  160. It's a long weekend, so they recess early. And of course it got to be an extended vacation to all these worthless ignoramus!

They couldn't care less bec it's not affecting them. These politicians bailed out the failing banks bec according to these politicians they're TOO big to fail.

What about the millions of UNEMPLOYED, aren't they not too big to fail? These failed banks that the gov't bailed out were one of the root causes of these job cuts, mass lay-offs - unemployment!

I can't believe I'm under the mercy of these idiots!

  162. The Senators let us hang out to dry for their Memorial Day vacation. Now it's the Fourth of July. I am a proud and very angry American.

But we unemployed Americans can't celebrate our independence from Tyranny on July 4th because of the Tyrants. The Tyrants will take another 7 day vacation again from doing NOTHING! When will we revolt? WHEN? After they have starved us to death and we are too weak to fight! What the hell are we doing AMERICA?

Our Declaration of Independence was founded on the concept that any civil government depends on the consent of those who are governed, which may be withdrawn at any time.

On this Independence Day, are you able to celebrate your consent to be governed by people who chose to let you and your family stare while they take their 7 day paid vacation while you pay them to do it with your tax dollars?

They just got back from their Memorial Day vacation on June 7th (Memorial Day was Monday, May 31st) refusing to act to prevent your extension from expiring on June 2nd, 2010.

Ask yourself, is our government acting reasonably?

I argue they are as unreasonable as Marie Antoinette. What should be eat at our Independence Day cookout, Cake?

Shame on us if we continue to do nothing. Shame, shame on us if we do not withdrawal our consent to be governed by this reckless government.

Our founding fathers had no phones, cars, internet to communicate their between each other their dissatisfaction with being governed unreasonably.

Instead they used invisible ink and rode on horseback in the dead of end to communicate with each other.

This horseback trail later became the postal service. What is the matter with us that we are so feeble that we would accept this as reasonable behavior from our government?
On this Independence Day, ask yourself if you are going to continue to do nothing by giving your consent to be governed by this horrendous government?

I beg of you, would any reasonable person consent to this?

  165. My husband and I were lifelong, very active Republicans. THAT HAS FOREVER CHANGED YESTERDAY!!! Since my husband lost his unemployment extension three weeks ago by the complete and utter incompetence of our Republican Senators and their complacent failure to remedy and recognize a National working class crisis, we have endured the deficit changes to our budget by your actions in the following way. I had the braces removed 6 months early from my 13 and 14 year old children’s teeth. My car got repossessed since I chose to pay the rent instead of the car to keep a roof over our heads. I emphasize the word RENT, because we already LOST our FAMILY HOME of 13 YEARS to FORECLOSURE!! As a result of losing my car, I have had to stop working at the bedside of a 90 year old Hospice patent with congestive heart failure because I can't get there! Her family says she is declining since my abrupt absence and she can’t understand why I’m not coming anymore. Neither can I! Now myself and my husband are both unemployed!
Now that I don’t have a car, I have applied for Medicaid for my three children. And since we don’t have a car, they now qualify. In the last two weeks, I have saved money by not buying frozen concentrate juice from the grocery store. Instead I have hand squeezed over 52 lemons, which I picked myself from a lemon tree in the yard of our rented house, to make lemonade for my children to drink in lieu of buying store bought fruit juice. THANK YOU REPUBLICAN SENATORS FOR MAKING ME FEEL LIKE AN ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT IN MY OWN COUNTRY!!! I have negotiated with a doctor for his best cash price to see my daughter who had fallen ill, only to get to the pharmacy and find his prescription was $62.00 when the doctor’s visit was only $50.00. I had to have the doctor call the pharmacy and prescribe something available from Wal-Mart’s $9.00 generic brands.
This is just a glimpse in the life of one of the over 1.5 million Americans you have affect in just the last 3.5 weeks by your blatant neglect. I only wish we could all AFFORD the GAS to drive to the steps of the Capital to hold you Republicans accountable. Before this Depression set in, my husband was the Project Manager of a thriving construction company, after having worked in the construction industry for over 20 years. Construction is no longer an Industry, it’s a charity. He was laid off along with every other employee that he worked with and supervised, all now on unemployment. His former employer is completely out of business after 30 years of outstanding service and workmanship. My husband and I are 40 years old, we have three children, we have worked hard our whole lives and THANKS TO THE REPUBLICAN SENATORS WE FEEL LIKE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS IN OUR OWN COUNTRY!!!

  169. The unemployed is not using this money to stick under the mattress. Every penny is used to circulate to other people such as grocery stores, landlords, phone companies, general merchandise stores and etc... All of those companies receive that money to pay their employees salaries, pay taxes and have profits so I believe that the failure to pass this bill will harm the greater good especially since the government will get every penny back from the taxes it collects as this unemploment money circulates.

  171. Dear Reader and Fellow Americans,

Please cut and paste the link below into your browser. It is a map of your country that tracks the national unemployment rate per county, per state, in a shaded map for the last 3.5 years from 2007-2010. The darker the area / region gets the higher the unemployment rate.

    http://cohort11.americanobserver.net/latoyaegwuekwe/multimediafinal.html

To all the Republican Senators who just voted NO for the fourth time and have refused to SAVE your fellow unemployed Americans who have giving you your job, I ask that you find a spare moment during you Independence Day vacation and just take a look at the map of your country. Find your state and your voting district. Than just take a wild guess as to many of your constituents are involved here. Good luck to all of you in November, we can't wait to return your vote NO!

And to my fellow citizens who are lucky enough to still be currently employed and feel this matter does not affect you, please find your state and county on the map above and see just how really close you are to being next in line at the unemployment office.
