2010 Unemployment Extension: A Benefits Bill Extension for Unemployed Americans

The 2010 unemployment extension could be voted on next week. The unemployment extension 2010 is needed, and it's a very important measure for many in Congress. The so called benefits bill extension within the American Jobs and Closing Tax Loopholes Act of 2010 may be controversial in the Senate, but there's few who will argue that it needs to be passed.

Many Americans are left holding the bag. The benefits extension bill is the only way they will be able to afford their mortgages and put food on the table during these tough times. The extension of time to file for the emergency benefits in tiers 1-4 created by the Federal Government expired on June 2, 2010 and since then each and every day people have been losing their benefits.

According to The Huffington Post, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs expects the measure to pass this next week. Gibbs is quoted as saying:

"I think this president will press and my belief is the Senate will take up [the package], and we will pass next week an extension of unemployment insurance. As we go into the political season we talked about, we will get a sense of where people sit on the spectrum of helping the unemployed."

Hopefully Gibbs is correct in his assumptions and the unemployment extension will be passed during the week of July 19th, 2010. The benefits extension bill is a big deal for many Americans and should be for Senators. Hopefully partisan politics will be placed aside and we will get the law passed for the millions of Americans who need it the most.

  1. Will this bill have a tier 5? I have already exhausted tier 1-4. I can not find a job and with no call backs it is very difficult. I just paid my bills and have no money left to buy food for my family.... :(

  2. Great...after so many months they are finally going to pass the bill WITHOUT the $25 a week and NO Tier 5 added for the millions who have exhausted their benefits! Guess they have to pay for THEIR raises somehow!!!

  3. Have they even considered a Tier 5 extension. I have been unable to find a job anywhere. I have even put in applications at fast food restaurants and been told I am overqualified. I just want to work!

  4. Yeah we don't have anything to do but wait...Just so you know our politicians in Washington make a whopping $174,000 a year while we fight for a few hundred dollars a week for unemployment. I am tired of these people running their mouth and getting nothing done. It's treason against the AMERICAN people. Vote to reduce THEIR paychecks to $50,000 at uspoverty.change.org. Then vote them out in Nov.

  8. Unfortunately, the July 20th vote does not include a tier 5. Their agenda is only for the extension of 1-4. They're debat is on how the extensions will be paid. Most americans want the extension to pass however they are at ends on who will pay for it. Again the coming vote, hopefully next week is NOT for a tier 5, just 1-4.

  9. YES, you will get to continue recieving benefits after 72 weeks. You'll have till 99 weeks. Keep claiming you benefits every two weeks, even if it doesn't pass next week. What will happen is they'll retro your back payments only if you continue to claim every two weeks.

  11. SOME STATES LIKE GEORGIA PEOPLE CAN GET UP TO 99 WEEKS AND NO THEY ARE NOT GOING TO HAVE A TIER 5. THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE USED ALL THERE EXTENSION WILL NOT GET A NEW ONE

  12. Thanks for that answer about after my 72 weeks,So even though that my last check came last week from tier 4, I will be able to go back on tier 4 if this passes?????

    ReplyDelete
  13. Why are the Senators on a three day weekend??????

    ReplyDelete
  14. Some states will not allow you to go beyond 99 weeks. There only 30 states that will allow you to go 99 weeks. Some will not. If they do not add Tier 5 then alot of people are out of luck... I work for Ga Department of Labor and once you have exhausted all of your benefits in some states then that is all you can receive unless you establish a new claim, but since you are not working then you can not. if they do not push for a tier 5 then a lot of people are going to be left in the wind which is not fair. Many people are considering moving to a state that does have the 99ers

  15. SO THEY CAN GO PLAY GOLF!!!! THAT'S WHY...THEY ARE NOTHING BUT SELFISH LAZY BASTARDS THAT WANT TO EARN $150 THOUSAND A YEAR AND SCREW THE REST OF THE COUNTRY!!!

  16. I am hoping this bill will pass next week, families are struggling.. It's not fair for the people as myself who hasnt collected unemployment in 30 years... worked my whole life and I only got to collect for 20 weeks.. I have a son to feed, rent to pay.. I am confident we will be on track next week.. I mean how much longer can this go on..

  18. It is crazy for those who are employed to critize the unemployed. We are making job applications each day and not a single call. There are few jobs and this housing market will get worse becasue we can no longer afford to pay our mortgages. SENATORS - IT IS UNAMERICAN FOR YOU TO GO ON VACATION AND HAVING YOUNG CHILDREN GO HUNGRY - ENJOY YOURSELVES NOVEMBER IS AROUND THE CORNER.

  19. Im am deffinitly one of the unemployed ppl who need the extention bill passed. But for those of you bitching about a tier 5 being passed. your rediculous. If you cant find a job in two years. Go to jail and get food. Your beeing greedy. I just need a tier 2 to help fill the hole not having a job got me in. Im sorry im for this bill being passed but if you need more than 2 yeaars of free money, shame on you. Get your lazy ass up and get on craigslist or something. PASS THE EXTENTION BILL IT WILL HELP ALL OF US.

  20. It depends on what State you live in whether you can claim 99 weeks,There are currently only 13 States that pay the full 99 weeks. Also not every State pays all 4 tiers, you must go to your State unemployment site and check out the maximum benefit for your State,I live in Missouri where you used to get the full 99 weeks but now it is only 79 weeks which is the full 4 tiers. The extra 20 weeks are for States with high unemployment rates.

    ReplyDelete
  21. all those who have been thru tier 4 at least had 4 tiers. those of us that started in dec 09 was in for a rude awakening when june came around and we were still in schooling to try and get a job in a sustainable field. i say let's delete the unemployed like stock in a grocery store. rotate out the ones drawing the longest and assist those that are affected as of late. no one has an answer that would be fair but at least they had 4 tiers to get schooling or choose a different career and possibly moving to another area where employment may be offered in their field of work

    ReplyDelete
  22. Is Ohio one of those states that pay the extra 20 weeks?

  23. Anyone here that has questions from what is going on can go to Opencongress.org. There is up-to-date information there on what is going to happen. There are also full lists of who voted yes and who voted no on this bill. People, the only way we can change the future of this country is to stay involved with what our Congress and Senate are doing. And then, when they do something you don't like, you can vote accordingly. Not just in November, but always.

  24. Here we go again another long miserable weekend. Putting applications in everywhere all week. We get to wake up on Monday with nothing being done, Tuesday may get passed, and who knows what then? Getting passed doesn't mean the funds will be available to all of us who are suffering with nothing coming in. 120+ hours of no food, gas, paying rent/mortgage electric, phone, computer access will be shut off, and much more. How many days before "We the people" will wait until funds are available?

If life isn't bad enough already, I was told yesterday the wheel bearings are going out on the only vehicle I have and it is going to cost around $600 to fix....well so there goes my way to get to a job if one was found, any job........GET THE DAMN BILL PASSED!!! I am at my wits end with no where to turn and I do not qualify for welfare to get by....I have no money, no prospects, and at age 49 going to school to try and better myself.....that is the last thing that can be taken from me as my home is next to go.........so so so sad

  26. The Republicans with their party in disguise-the TEA PARTY dont care anything about the deficit. If they were concern about the deficit, they would have done something about it when they were in control. They waited untill now to take it out on the unemployed. Isn't it funny? Doesen't this tell you who you dealing with? The devil will appear at your door in different form to confused you, but make no mistake it is the same devil!

  27. I do not understand how Senate make so much money and they are always on vacation. They were just off for a week. Now they get a 3-day weekend. Maybe if they would work a full week they could get something accomplished. UN-freaking real. They should be put on the Hall of Shame.

  29. I believe we need to stand by one another. For those of you that are still employed and haven't lost any pay. You havent got a clue! Going back to college and changing your career isn't always the answer. I have friends who have done just that and now have a masters with still no employment. No one said a thing while George Bush was in the White House making a mess out of this country!!! Thanks to the Bush administration giving companies tax breaks for sending jobs over seas and causing a lot of this mess. Bring ALL jobs back to America. I don't see other countries seeking americans. America NEVER let this kind of madness happen again! Greed is Americas down fall. I know what the big guys were thinking, lets make all the money we can right now and the heck with later. Well later has come and this is the after math! Was it worth your new yacht, bigger estate or whatever it is you think you need to validate your self. All of you who are living High on the Hog need to rethink your actions! If you even have a conscience! If you lost EVERYTHING today had nothing left, what would you do? Jump out a window? Probably! What you people don't seem to realize is you can lose it all in a second. Well that's just what has happened to people looking for none existence work they have Lost everything !!! Lost the dream!!! There are no jobs out there.

  32. 25 million people that were working before the criminal Wall Street financial meltdown are now unemployed with no job growth to speak of and unemployment safety net benefits starting to expire, this sounds like a national emergency to me. Where is President Obama? Why is he not speaking to the American public from the Oval Office about this national emergency affecting +/- 25 million people including children? Why is he not on national TV from the White House berating Republicans for not extending unemployment benefits. Why is he not berating Democratic Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska? Why is he not calling an end to the War/Nation Building in Iraq and Afghanistan that is costing us +/- 10 billion dollars a month to fight a couple of hundred Taliban soldiers? 25 million peoples lives in this country are being destroyed and we are more concerned with sending our money to Iraq and Afghanistan than giving our own people a safety net til our nation can get back on its feet again. Are you kidding me! 911 killed 3 thousand people our own financial and political leaders have the potential to kill alot more of our own people. President Obama please grow some Kahuna's and do what needs to be done for the people of this country. I took my daughter to her softball game the other day and was shocked, when they played the national anthem only about half the people even bothered to recognize it was playing and even stand up, and I must admit I only stood up half heartedly. It's getting kinda hard these days to salute our flag. And can somebody please explain to me why any hard working average joe middle class American votes Republican, ever since Tinkle Down economics I just don't get it.

  38. I'm not surprised this is happening again. Except this time my Tier 1 benefits run out either next week or the week after. I don't know for sure because there are always at least 100 people in line trying to figure out what to do.

I hope the EFFERS who saw to it that I was laid off on my last day of maternity leave burn in hell for this. I can assure you they aren't worrying about their next meal, or how to feed their 13 month old, or which late utility bill to pay.

My HOA is now threatening to cut the water off because I cannot pay them. I've been too busy trying to pay the mortgage. Of course no one in the HOA is unemployed; if they were, it would be a different story.

I hope these politicians enjoy their free ride in this lifetime because Hell won't be nearly as fun, and I'm sure they're going.

  39. I had worked consistently for 20 years. Now I am out of benefits. There is no Tier 5. My husband makes too much to qualify for any relief. And believe me, he makes very little! Our family would do all they could to help us, but for GOD'S sake, HELP US!!!!

  40. To the person who needs wheel bearings.....Just learn how to do the work yourself. Take a couple of days (which you have since you have no job) and spend 200 on parts and tools...and your car is fixed! My wife has been unemployed for 1 1/2 years and we have 2 cars with over 150,000 miles on them...anyone can learn to work on their own car.

It is all part of cutting back. Years ago everyone drove their vehicles for years, learned how to fix them and saved a ton of money.

We just need to remember the simple things like that that keep expenses down and everyone can learn to live on one income again! Get back to basics people.

We complain about socialism and then ask for more of it everyday! What do you want? Do you want to be rewarded for your own merits or be a socialist nation where the government prvides everything for you?

  41. If you all did not buy houses you could not afford in the first place, cars that cost more than you made in a year, TV's bigger than your living room..then maybe you would have had your OWN money in savings to get through this!

Before you all whine about me having a job and not understanding what it is like...I am in the same boat as you all.

My spouse is unemployed and out of benifits, my home is being forclosed on, and I have ZERO savings. But you know what...I am not whining about it. I am learning from my mistake and scaling back all of my expenses. Do I need a cell phone..not really..do I need cable..not really..so I need a 2,000 sq foot house..nope...

Ger real and be honest with yourselves. A little better planning next time around and a lifestyle change is in order.

  46. That is awesome! I am proud of you for making the hard decisions and making sure that you are getting by. I am sure that once you are back to employment you will build a few months of savings and make sure that you don't live outside your means so that you never have to live in a tiny place again!

That is exactly what I am talking about. All we have to do is get by..get through this together and help each other out. If you live in AZ and need help working on your car I am glad to help!

I have 2 old rust buckets that are paid for, and rent a cheap house but its withing my budget. I understand how lucky I am to have a job and income...my point is that we all need to learn within our means...however small they may be.

  47. You are begging senators because the states where the money was supposed to be in unemployment trust funds was not kept there, but spent and not paid back to the fund. These states must borrow money from the government to fund the unemployment trust funds since they depleted them. I know the state I live in had been told many years ago that their fund needed to be replenished. This was written about in the paper that the fund was empty before the recession started. Therefore, when it had overwhelming people to draw the state ran-out of money since the fund was depleted and not funded. I am assuming this is how other states operated also. Same with our SS. IOU in the fund now. They depend on the funds coming in to support the payments since they borrowed from the funds and this will not work for long. So, they try to convince people the program does not work. The programs will work if they were funded into the trust that were set-up for withdrawal, and you and me and everyone else would not be considered to be lazy and beggars. Same with old pension plans, most company did not fund them 100% and this is the same story. Example: the car companies cut pensions contracts, insurance etc. ---- I am in a high state for unemployment and we get 99 weeks. However I have not been able to get hired and it has been 79 weeks. I try really hard. I have interviews and I have not been hired yet. In addition, I have a degree from 2003, BA and I went to college later in life. I think I am not hired because of my age even though I look good and do not have any health problems. So, this person who says they will have a job in 99 weeks may get a surprise. I have social networks also trying to help. And one is a VP, yet no job, but they are hoping something will shake loose soon at that company.
There is much more I could say, but it does not help the bank account at 0. American needs job and benefits to take care of their families not welfare or charity. Put us back to work so we can pay taxes and support our "AMERICA" and support our ecomony so it can become health again. 70% of the recovery comes from the consumer and that is us. I hear jobs will be hard to get for another two years and this is so depressing.

  48. For all of you sitting at your computers, whining about not having jobs while blaming Congress, the Senate, Obama (whom I hate passionately) or the like...shut the fuck up and continue looking for work. If you're already doing that, genuinely, and cannot find work, then I applaud you and sincerely hope the extension passes...and I do believe it will.

For those of you hoping that it passes because you think you've earned it...you haven't. The American dream is not a handout; it is not given to you just because you've demanded. And for you fucking idiots complaining about the income of politicians..first, your numbers are off. Second, shut the fuck up. Do you know how tough it is to get to that point in their careers? They've busted their asses listening to people like you bitch and moan about everything....everything, and they still continue doing so, for you. They've earned their incomes...they didn't simply demand it because they're American. So for you jobless fucks who are crying and whining about other people's incomes...shut the fuck up and make it happen for yourselves. Afterall, it is the American dream, right?

Turn off your daytime t.v. shows that you CAN'T unglue yourselves from. Stop ordering shit from QVC and the Home Shopping Network. Stop buying excessive things you can live without, and budget your money a little better. You're grown goddamn adults...stop acting like 3 year olds. Have you ever seena 3 year old beg and cry for something? That's your identical emulation.

Rants, bitchings and complaints are all more than welcome. ;]

You or I can not just snap our fingers and a job magically appears. You can go back to school to learn a profession that there are no jobs in. You can try to start a business in an economy where people have no money and other businesses are closing up every day. You can sell blood. You can look into the illegal drug business. If you are young enough there is always the military. You can sell your body. You can sell your soul.

  52. My husband and I are both 59. He lost his job in June 2008. We applied 7 times for a loan modification due to his unemployment under the wrong assumption that the bail out given to the mortgage companies would assist us until he got back to work. Out of the 7 times we applied, 4 times they never received the paperwork and the other 3 we were denied due to my income. We lost our home of 15 years to foreclosure in Oct.2009. My husband's has developed some health issues over the past two years and we have no insurance. We have probably accumulated about $80,000 in hospital and medical bills we could not pay. At the end of Feb. 2010 the company I worked for closed it's doors after 40 years in business and now I am unemployed. I draw $181/wk.unemployment, I drive a 17 year old car and the home we are renting is in foreclosure. We both worked all of our lives. Sometimes two and three jobs. All I can say to some of these idoits is...WALK A MILE IN MY SHOES...then make your comments.

I bet your daddy paid for you school, got you your job, helped you put a down payment on your house...if not there is no way you were able to save 114k on 45k a year with 3 kids by 27...sorry the math don't work.

I drove 2 automobiles one is a street racer HONDA and the other one is a 2008 Lexus GX that is paid for and it was paid for my me. You people better learn how to save your money with your OLD ASSES

  63. The 200 million will care when they are standing in the unemployment line ........

Trickle down (or is it up) theory.
As $$$ is not spent, jobs are lost and business close. We currently have 27 states that have told Congress if the extension is not passed they will have to lay off government workers amounting to approximately 300k - 600K......

Go ahead and stick your head in the sand and don't be surprised at what you get in the end sticking up.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Ok, so...if you had enough saved to retire in the first place you would not have depleted the 401k in 2 years. And 2nd maybe you should not have moved to a different state away from your elderly parents in the first place.

I will always speak the truth..I am sorry if that hurts. I am an idiot myslef because I don't have any savings. Also in the same boat with an unemployed spouse and our home is in forclosure.

Instead of whining for someone to bail me out I am taking the steps to ensure that this situation does not take place again.

Maybe you should quit paying for your internet connection so you have more money....

    ReplyDelete
  65. Idiots. You're missing the point. It's not about being lazy and whether or not you have a job. I, specifically, was belittling the stupid shits who are blaming the ggovernment for their ineptitudes. It's not their fault you lost your jobs. It sucks all the same, but it's still not their fault. And it is NOT their job to continue giving you free money. Free money, in fact, that will effect the other 32048723489234234234234934 people in America who are paying for you to be out of work.

  67. Let me break it down for you:
    1. My lost job I was making 45K I was a manager of a retail store.
    2. I have been working since I was 16 years old.
    3. I started saving at 16 years old.
    4. Yep my daddy paid for my schooling
    5. I have always had jobs that paid me well.
    6. That was the smallest salary I have ever received in my life.
    7. I was married but divorce my husband.
    8. I went to a four year college. (Georgia Tech)
    9. My family didn't help me buy my house I bought on my own.
    10. My 3 kids have savings bond in Regions Bank each totaling 10,000 a piece that is 30k.
    11. They have had them since they were born.
    12. I will never go BROKE because I have very good stocks and my family has very long money.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Once again...the math does not add up on your 45k a year in income with all that money spent. You are so full of shit that your family has not given you money.

Sorry but I don't buy your bull.

And it would help if some of you would put a damn name of some sort to make it easier to reply.

    ReplyDelete
  69. And what about all the people I paid for during all the years we worked...Karma...what goes around comes around.

  70. Knuckle-Head George Bush, what a buffoon, look at where he left this country. He's sitting back on his padded rocking chair on his veranda sipping mint juleps on his 5,000 acre dude ranch in Crawford TX. phoning his real estate agent to buy up all the good buy foreclosures he can. I wish I could bitch slap that MF'er.

  71. Hey asswipe. It's 380 million people. Shut the f#@k up if you are that stupid. And this goes for "rich boy" too. You're morons.

    ReplyDelete
  72. EXACTLY....just look at #12...I bet your ex husband pays you a crapload of money too since you HAD to have your 3 kids...who now live in a broken home.

You should not even be on unemployment in the first place so quit asking for more.

    ReplyDelete
  73. To the 27 year old idiot!!!!! Why in the hell are you even on this website?

    ReplyDelete
  74. My name is April for the asshole who is wondering. Like I said that was the only job that I have ever worked that paid me 45K a year. And I only worked that job for 9 months. Then you don't even have enough money to buy my bull if you wanted to with your broke ass. You are just mad that your ass is broke and now you are stressed out because you don't know how you are going to feed your fucking kids. Bitch go get a job and start saving you asshole. Better yet do you want me to wire you some money so you can be happy. Better yet again you don't you come and move in with me I live in Peachtree City, GA. I have an extra room for you and yours.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I have been a construction worker for over 20 years. Last week I exhausted my first 26 weeks with no extentions.I cant get an interview for a ten dollar a hour job. Obama is bragging on how his stimulus money is giving work to highway work. Everywhere you look there is only Latinos working on our roads. I wonder how many are legal? Our state senator is bragging how 200 jobs are coming to a local aircraft company paying 11.50 a hour. Who the hell can raise a family on that? I wonder if congress is considering to cut off all welfare to people that have never worked a day in there lives? It is time this country wakes up and start addressing the issues that are killing us.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Georgia Tech chick...you mentioned that you've been able to maintain all on your own, right? And that all of these people should be able to also, right?

...Your last post said you won't ever go broke because "your family has very long money." You're a fucking moron. Long money? Try again,s tupid. And if you're relying on their "very long money," it's probably because you're broke at that point, no? Stop typing...it's wasting free text.

    ReplyDelete
  77. What do people actually do when unemployment benefits are gone and there are no jobs to be had and you have no family for support. I mean really what do you actually do to survive?

    ReplyDelete
  78. I am on here laughing at ya'll dumbass white people and black people who don't have there life together. Young or Old ya'll are dumbasses. And for the one who said why am I asking for more unemployment BITCH I AM NOT. Trust and believe me. I am just sitting back on a 1200.00 laptop typing and laughing at ya'll asses eating Prime Rib right now. And my husband doesn't pay shit but 1475.00 a month in child support cause his ass is broke to. People if you SAVE SAVE SAVE SAVE SAVE SAVE SAVE SAVE then you wouldn't have this problem.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Your arrogant and selfish comments speak for themselves. Anyone that reads them can clearly see you have clearly lived a "charmed" life. Some of us less "charmed" live in the real world and have compassion for other people. You should try it sometime. It builds character, obviously something missing in your "break down".

    ReplyDelete
  80. Hey April. Get off this site. We are sick of hearing you. I DON'T GIVE A RAT'S ASS HOW MUCH MONEY YOU HAVE. You are still a loser!!! Yeah send me some money and I'll wipe my ass with it and send it back to you.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Great April...so there is absolutly no way you could have saved all that money and bought all those things with the money you have made in your life.

And your right I am a dumbass..but i'm not broke..and not mad..I am working..and saving..and getting to the point where I don't have to worry about stuff. The difference is that I am working for it myself.

I don't have any kids..because I am intelligent. And I would love for you to wire me some of your parents, or ex-husbands money if you can spare it.

Don't make assumptions about people..I did not about you. I simply called out the fact that it is numerically impossible for you to have purchased and saved all the things you claim on the income you claim you made. Thats it...

No need for name calling. The fact that people on here have nothing better to say than to call people names and degrade them is rediculious.

I am sorry if the truth hurts.. but as you see I speak the truth about myself as well.

  83. And thats Georgia Tech BLACK NIGGA BITCH. Please sweetie we all have savings, so I will never rely on them for anything. Its also called having A++++ credit which I do have. I have a FICO SCORE of 801 (Equifax) 795 (Transunion) 816 (Experian). So if I want a credit card or anything else I would get it. I have 1 credit card and that is with AMERICAN EXPRESS and then last time I used it was in July of last year when I paid for plane tickets and hotel rooms in Jamaica for my parents 30th Anniversary and I have never used it again because I didn't have to and that 4500,00 that was charged on it was paid off in September. So get a reality check.

  84. I've read many posts from angry people who are fed up with our government, and some with each other. What is happening is "Man's inhumanity to man". Every man for himself. Hatred. Greed. Anger. Politics (Republicans against Democrats). While I understand where all of this comes from, None of this works! What does work? Compassion for our fellow human beings while continuing to look for work. Moving to another state if possible if your State does not have jobs. Cutting back if you cannot move. Helping one another if you are able to. Let's all stick together and pray together for the extension to pass next Tuesday. I'm spiritual, not "religious", but I do believe in our "source" as Dr. Wayne Dyer does. Please, everyone, send positive hopeful thoughts into the Universe so that those people who really need the help will receive it. I am also on unemployment and while I don't understand why some are able to receive 99 weeks while others are not, I am grateful to have received what I have and hope that it is extended so that we can all pay our bills and survive a little longer while we continue to look for work. Please-EVERYONE- PRAY this weekend for the extension to pass on Tuesday. We're all in this together!

  87. ummmmmmm. the numbers are correct if you can read and pay attention I have worked since I was 16 and now I am 27 it is very possible to save that money. I best job I had was when I making 85,000 a year and I was at the same job from 2002-2008. So yes it is possible to save that money. My lost job paid me a silly 45,000 a year and I didnt even stay that long for the ride. I can't live or save off that. Thats why I no longer work there because they wouldn't give me a raise

  91. To the person who stated that the people who have been on unemployment for almost two years or two years are nothing but lazy and desires to not receive any unemployment. Well I am one of those people. I was laid off in Feb of 2009, and I have been steadyly appling everywhere, including minimum wages jobs. I have two BS degrees, a Masters, and HR Mgmt Cert, in which I keep being told that I am overqualified. I have paid between $3500 to $5000 to head hunters to help find me a job. I have paid and redone my resume at least 4 or 5 times. When I first started looking for work, the jobs that required an accessment and/or test were 1 or 2 for every 10 I applied at. Now, it has been 8 or 9 for every 10 I applied at, and I am so trying of receiveing that "I am not a proper fit" because some computer determined I was not. I have worked since I was 16 years old, and I have only drawn unemployment twice in my life and I only needed it for two or three weeks because I went to work right away. I am now 52 and I feel I have paid into the program all of this time, and I am entitied to it. Remember Kama is a very powerful thing, and you soon may be finding yourself where us "two yearers" are!!!!!!! I have taken temp positions just so I can have some income, I have babysat, and cleaned homes. I managed to submit anywhere from 10 to 30 resumes a day, so you do the math. I wasn't planning on being on unemployment this long, but it is a very tough market out there!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  92. Might I suggest that you get a damn job and take care of your sick parents and your nasty little bad ass kids. who probably are running around the house barefooted with the bottoms of there feet black. Better yet go to the supermarket and go spend them foodstamps

  94. April...your talking in circles...you original post said nothing of making 85k a year. You also said you were fired, "I WAS MAKING 45K A YEAR BUT WHEN MY JOB FIRED ME."

So, you are full of shit and a complete liar. What job paid you 85k a year when you were 20 and supposedly in college????

I am done even responding you you because you can't be honest with yourself or anyone else.

Step 1 to a good life.. be 100% honest with yourself..even when you are an idiot.

Step 2 to a good life.. be 100% honest with everyone else even when it hurts them or makes them angry at you.

  95. April GA TECH,
You claim that you're a college graduate! Please edit your comments before posting! Education and Wisdom are two different things and I ask that before you speak through "educated" text, stop and think that if the table were turned how would you want to be addressed! Humility is a great lesson to learn because at any moment your life could change and I would hate for you to have this moment brought up in your thoughts when/if you experience "life"! Stay positive and you will never have to defend your words!!!

    ReplyDelete
  99. The problem is that everyone is just name calling and whining. How about if we start posting ways to try to get through this. Everyone has done something to get by..what is it?

Like I said, my spouse has been on unemployemnt for almost 1 1/2 years. She has gone back to school (as have I, even with full time work). She has done like most of you and applied everywhere only to be turned down.

We are living off of a couple of thousand a month and a couple thousand in savings at any given point. I understant that a lot of you don't have anything and that sucks, especially for those of you like the poster who is "overqualified".

When we were both employed we had a 2000/mo mortgage, 2 car payments, lots of good credit, and zero savings.

So, through this we have learned that we don't need all of these "things" and its better to live within our means, even if that's not the best.

So, what have you done to get by??

    ReplyDelete
  100. Oh and the job was at The World of Coca-Cola that I was at when I was 20. The number is 404-676-5151. I was the Operations Director and you can ask them if it will make you fill better if April Stevens and my DOB is 03/27/1983 worked there. Remember ask for HR. And if you don't know what HR means it means Human Resources

    ReplyDelete
  101. If you walked out and quit...prey tell how did they "fire" you? Hmmmm

I believe this is some kind of a joke to you and those of us struggling really don't appreciate or care to read your less than honest ramblings.

    ReplyDelete
  102. It's "they were not paying me enough....not "they was not paying me enough"

and you still didn't say where you worked for 85k a year at 19 in school...probalby because you were a stripper which is why you could only get a job making 45k in the "real world".

    ReplyDelete
  103. And I left the job because I was working long hours. So I went for 80k+ to 40k+ to be with my family. Who wouldn't a 9-5. The World of Coca Cola is not a 9-5 more like a 7-9 or so on

  141. Headline here in Dallas: 500 city workers being laid off. More companies closing. Saw a post that said, "We didn't leave our jobs. Our jobs left us." People who seem to have nothing better to do than blame the unemployed for not finding work are ignorant. They must get off on debaseing people, so they are sick as well.
People didn't send their jobs out of the country. They didn't say keep the borders open, so fat cats can make more profit off cheap (and sometimes slave) labor. Our government didn't give a damm. George W Bush, and his big oil, big business pals wrecked our economy. I voted for him. Live and learn. Hate it he lives here in Dallas. If he's a Texan I'm the queen of England. People are upset becaue of jobless benefits? Take it out on the jerks in power who allowed this recesion to happen. They always have money for bailing out the rich, banks, Wall Street crooks, phoney wars on drugs, terrorism. OUR MONEY.
BTW I am not unemployed. I am outraged at the political games DC is playing with people. You want to get mad and nasty about people who don't work? Then get outraged at congress. They work how many days a year? Look it up. When they are in DC , they mostly sit on their butts and get treated like kings and queens.
To the people who brought race into this: Grow up. I know how you think. (I'm white FYI) Most people (I hope) in this country are sick of race being brought into everything. Ruins intelligent conversation. Go play somewhere else. You are to be ignored. Sorry I read your crap. Live and learn.

  142. It look like the extension bill will pass, probably Tuesday, July 20. It seems very confusing to me. People are lucky if they have friends, neighbors, family to help. Used to be like the Waltons. Generations lived on the farm, etc. Now familie are spread out all over. Makes it harder. I just pray everyone makes it through this. To the people who think most jobless people are lazy, not looking for work, kicking people whrn they are down, I hope you never find out what it is like.

  144. I have been collecting since november of 2009. I went back to school like the governement was telling us to do. I was told i would be able to collect until school was over(18 mo). i still look for jobs and put out applications every chance I get because unemployment is not enough to support myself, but at least it is something. It is better than nothing until i can find a job. I don't qualify for food stamps cause i make 8 dollars a month too much on unemployment, but I can't get medical insurance because I make way too much on unemployment. my 200 a week is barely enough to cover my rent but the government wont help me with anything else. my lights got cut, my gas got cut, i got evicted, i can't afford food and these senators are always taking a vacation. must be nice to be them. what about the taxpayers signing their paychecks. i paid taxes for years while i worked and i have paid taxes the whole time on unemployment. now that i need a hand i can't get one. i an actively looking for work while in school but not one job offer. i would take anything i could get to get by. i am not being greedy i just want what everyone wants..a chance.

  145. I have been reading though the comments on here and its very sad that people that have jobs have the nerve to put down the people who have been laid off. I have worked since i was 16 years old and I was laid off in 2008. I have tried to find a job every since that time and I cant even get low paying jobs to call me back. They say I am over-qualified because i have a degree.

I live in the state of Texas and there are plenty of jobs here , but the catch is they want you to speak Spanish or be bilingual, etc. There always seems to be a catch. I applied for a customer service job the other day and i was told they needed someone bilingual. I work part-time but its not enough to pay the bills. So to all of you that say the unemployed are lazy, we are not. We are desperate to find jobs to feed our families and pay our bills. We are people from all pay ranges, all races, and yet we share one thing in common we worked at a company that laid us off and the government refuses to help us.

I dont know if the new bill will help me to be honest I have exhausted all of my benefits, with the exception of the state funded one. So hopefully it will pass along with the other benefits and people can feed their families. To all looking for jobs and hope on here, dont give up. All I can say is make your vote count when election time come. Dont forget how the republicans have turned their back on us.

  149. Also taking the $25.00 away, is not fair, people got this for 99 weeks and I still think the 99ers should, I am only a 26weeker cut. One interview out of 6 months, but I am a 55 year old woman so that should explain, roll back the retirement age back to 55 as it once was I was told and $25.00 is gas money for the week when looking for the job, all the other does is keep a roof over your head and food on the table, nothing to talk about. Pass the bill this weekend, have it sent to Maine and have it signed and passed so everbody has their money due to them by Tuesday, like now!!!!

  150. 43 year old College educated citizen. I have never been on unemployment in my entire life until April 17 2008. I had to fight to get my claim till December 2008 but I got it. I have moved to 2 different states after selling my house, cashing in all investments, including life insurance. I work daily with my state job center as well as 15 employment agencies, and 12 job boards. I apply for NO LESS then 200 positions a week. MOST of which are atleast 50% less then what I did make and a good percentage even lower. I am NOT COMPLAINING! I will take ANY job offered I do mean ANY! I have gotten MY FIRST INTERVIEW! I mean my first for this wednesday and yes it is less then 50% of what I did make and if offered I will graciously take it. As for re-education, I have looked and signed up for multiple programs for education to no avail. I assume I could have gone back to college BUT what field and where? There are to many question and no answers to take on yet MORE debt when I already have a full education. I am one who has gone through all 4 tiers and I have no guilt for that at all or the need for additional releif if needed/offered. I know ethically I am doing all that I can, including whoring myself out via craigslist, and only one bite in 2 YEARS!! WTF
