2010 Unemployment Extension: A July 13 Update - Not a Tier 5 Extension

The 2010 unemployment extension hasn't been passed yet and it's 7/13/2010. The unemployment extension is a 2010 mid-term election hot topic that will be very controversial and will determine the elections in many states where the extension is needed for a large number of citizens.

The extension needs a majority of 60 votes in the Senate to pass. The last time the measure was brought to vote, the Senate received a vote of 58-38. Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) the Senate Majority Leader, voted against the measure, but only so that it could be brought to vote later on.

If Reid voted for the measure, then only one more vote would be needed for passage. The passing of Senator Robert Byrd from West Virginia came at a terrible time, as he could have voted for the measure and helped it pass through the system.

The unemployment extension would extend the time to file for tiers 1-4. The measure up for vote doesn't make a tier 5 extension, although many Americans have exhausted their 1-4th tiers.

Republicans aren't voting for the extension because it would add to our nation's enormous deficit spending pattern. Democrats won't give in to Republican demands to use unused stimulus funds to pay for the extension.

Republicans don't like the tax increases and deficit spending currently in the bill, although two Republican senators from Maine voted for the measure.

Hopefully once the senator from West Virginia is named, the vote will pass. July 19th is the date that the unemployment extension will be voted on, and it needs to pass this time or else there will be many Americans without benefits.

  1. Anyone know what happens if it doesnt pass on the 19th? Is it a done thing then?

  2. I find it despicable that career politicians who earn 170k+ yearly and who were just on vacation vote against food and rent/mortgage for those with no income. Hypocritical jackasses.

(only the Maine-R Senators voted yes)

FYI- I do have a job.

  3. The government has stated that the economy may not recover until late 2011 or early 2012 therefore We need a tier 5 or at least 40 weeks added to tier 4. The chances of any tier 5 or weeks added to tier 4 is as likely as a magnitude 8 earthquake occurring in NY, Washington and LA at the same time. Congress just not get it that there are no jobs out there and the jobs that are available the unemployed have been told not to apply

The only way for the unemployed to get noticed is to march on Washington and shut the city down. This would require to unemployed to organize which could happen and I hope it does

  4. I am one of the 2.5 million Americans who lost their unemployment benefits. Do you think they might pass the extension if all 2.5 million of us camped out on the White House Lawn????? What else has to be done? From what I understand, every time Unemployment extensions came up when George W. Bush was President, every single Republican voted for it. This is politics, pure and simple. If they could only live our lives for one week.......

  5. Not every person has exhausted tiers 1-4. I just finished my original 26 weeks, this would have been my first tier and I am Not Eligible for it. All I can say is keep the names coming who is voting against the extension so I can write them down and bring them with me in November !! They may reduce us to the lowest denomination But last time I checked we can still vote, and Trust me We Will be Voting !!

  7. They are going to vote on the 19 and they will continue to vote on it until there is a cloture vote. I have not heard that it is a cloture vote. There are actually two bills that are in the senate to extend the unemployment. There is one that is passed by the house and one that was created in the senate. The one that was passed by the house is a stand alone bill. I hope that is the one that is being voted on.

  8. Yeah watching re-runs of the Simpsons and Seinfeld is getting old while I stare at my college degree's on the wall. There's NO FRIKIN WORK, I have sent resumes everywhere. These guys will pay in November. Lets put together a list of names so we can post them all on our STATUS pages on FACEBOOK. Ill Start with the 1st. Robert Byrd.

  9. Yes, I think if it is not passed this time it will be dead. Both sides are standing strong and Manchin lies so much that I don't think he will even appoint someone before Sept. Even if they pass 4213 it will have to go back to the house due to many changes in the bill, and the Repubs and some Dems voted against it last time and we would have to hope that there would not be more that would vote no. This is a mess.

  10. I totally agree and I have a job as well. My husband has been unemployed for the 73 weeks but did not make the deeadline to extend to the 99 weeks so now he has no income. Living on my pay just isn't cutting it. & those lovely politicians go on vacation and lewave everyone hanging. Must be nice. I haven't had a vacation in 15 years. Maybe they can pay for me and my family to go on vacation!!! They suck and they will join the unemployed come November when it is time to vote for them!!!

  13. You know the banks are still getting bailed out vis-a-vis the 0% interest they pay to borrow money from the Fed Bank. I could go on and on, so to make a long story short: money from tax payers help people around the world, exept the tax payers themselves. Sad. By the way, I do believe the Republicans have really shot themselves in the foot with this one. They should have just passed the bill last month and went on with things...sad!

  15. I lost my job after 10 years last Oct. I have applied for job after job after job. I can't even get an interview, let alone a job (and I have a college degree) And while I sit without any income and a mother or 2 young children and worry daily on whether or not I'm going to loose the home I've spent so much time and money investing in, they take a long vacation, sip on their fine wine and cruise around in their limo's. I'll be sure I remember all this come next election....

  16. Elections coming up mean absolutely nothing since both sides are screwing the unemployed right now.

Guess what? We are in a recession and still at war in 2 countries! These are times of emergency! Obama could step in at any moment and get these extensions taken care of but he's afraid of the bad press.

Republicans are heartless and Democrats are spineless.

  17. THE UNIONS COULD ORGANIZE FOR THE UNEMPLOYED. This could help unions as much as the unemployed. The government and media have killed unions for the benefit of big business and sent your jobs to China--slave nation. Get back to your roots and protect the working man. Forget the democrats they always duoble cross the unions.

All this talk about "tax increase deficit" is getting out of hand. These republicans can afford the tax increase so why not help. GOD SEES EVERYTHING. I hope the extention passes on July 19. Prayer always help.

  21. How can these politicians sleep at night? If it were someone in their family who is unemployed, looking and finding NOTHING, they would think a little more about this issue.
I am a single mother of 11 yr old twins and have been to school twice to better myself since I've been laid off and I have not been able to get a job. Interviews yes, job as of yet, NONE. I can't stand being home. I want to be working. In the meantime, I need unemployment to put food on the table and clothes on my kids. Is that living the high life? I think not.

  23. I find myself unemployed for the first time in my life and like the person above only received 26 weeks of benefits. Why are we not to get the same assistance as all those that have come before us? I try to find work daily, but have
been unsuccessful up to this point. That they have the "balls" to take vacation makes me sick. If I don't find employment soon, I will do whatever I need to, to feed my family....and that
includes taking forcibly from other....I know it sounds wrong, but I will not let my kids go hungry...I PROMISE YOU THAT!

  25. Im glad that the unemployment extension is being banned. My sister makes more money collecting her unemployment benefits and working for cash under the table than my husband who works his ass off and barely makes minimum wage. How is that fair...here we are busting our asses and barely getting by...and we get no help. I hope they don't pass it. Get jobs people...work for Mc Donalds if you have too...just get off your asses!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Agree - they all need to be voted out. Period. I dont care if they voted for or against it - they ALL got us into this mess by allowing all our jobs to go overseas., and then turn around and tell us we are all lazy. We are still expected to pay our bills, (even though the government cant pay theirs), they raise taxes and fees if they dont have enough money and vote themselves payraises if they want more in their pockets. And then they shove a healthcare program down our throats, (one that they wont use), even though we didnt want it, but they no better then us dumbasses. I say we all forward our bills to the White House and let them deal with it. And when the bank tries to take our houses, tell them they'll have to contact the White House to get the key. I myself am looking into moving to Canada - Im not hanging around while these blockheads continue to turn us into a 3rd world nation.

What is wrong with you people... yes there is no food on my table and yes i already lost my home... its gone bye bye me and my children are living with friends very lucky for that... but Ill be damn if Im going to pawn my kids life away simply because i want to keep my internet on, or my cell phone alive or the cable TV or whatever other luxuries we have gotten used to... i don't give a damn about all that and neither should any of you... think about our children's future... that is more important then the rest of us who screwed up in first place by not saving enough money for a raining year, by not starting our own business and for not planning ahead.... the Democrats have lied to me straight to my face... and I am so tired of it... i hope the republicans deny my extension until the democrats stop lying cheating and stealing and use the Stimulus funds to help us and not try to spend anymore of my children's money... all you people should be ashamed of yourselves... seems you only care about today when 2moro is so much more important... we have our chance and we need to allow a chance for our kids as well... tell the democrats to use the stimulus money for the extensions and do not try to spend money outside of the stimulus funds... there is over 600 million still there unless the democrats stole it already...

I am booted of after 26 weeks of unemployment... have sent out 250+ resumes..... went to seminars at unemployment only to be told my resume writing is great and I could teach the class..... was shut off the end of June..... How fair is it that some have collected for over 1.5 years and others are shut off after 6 months..... I am considering being anti government..... and you know why should I vote in the future. Our government does not take care of their own and this is SICK..... I will go to Washington..... I have nothing better to do.... I live in New England in NH anyone wanna come..... Many will be watching in November for sure and I feel bad for those A-holes in Congress cuz guess what ..... after the elections perhaps you'll be in our situation and oooopppps guess you will collect not EVEN a quarter of your salary and for only 26 weeks...... hahahahah

  40. where's Obama on this? the most effective way to stimulate the economy is laying the money in the hands of the people like the unemployed who will go out and spend it! Obama should put the pressure on the Dems to pay for the extension with the $37,000,000,000 left over in stimulus money, the checks could roll immediately. Sending the money to local politicians to spend as they see fit on more government "pork" projects is why the stimulus bill was a complete waste, creating very few jobs and why the economy is still in the dump.

  48. It is truly disgusting that they choose to worry about spending now, when so many people honestly cannot find jobs. I think a realistic approach with a show of force by the unemployed would be for each unemployed person to march on their respective state's capitol. I doubt everyone, being employed, would be able to afford a trip to DC, but if it were organized on a certain date, count me in for the march on my state's capitol. Wouldn't it be a sight to see a hundred thousand people, for example, march on Albany, NY. Please, someone, organize it and I am in!

We have lived in the same home for 22 years and my unemployment benefits were the only way we were paying our bills and now we are in danger of losing our home. Doesn't the government realize what a domino effect cutting our benefits would have on whatever chance of economic recovery we had? I apply for six to ten jobs a day and I do not hear back from any of them. I'm 46 years old and no one wants to hire someone that is just starting to use more and more health insurance. Most of the jobs I qualify for require you to speak spanish! What a joke! It's time to riot in the streets.

  66. After reading all these comments, I come away with one resounding concensus. We, the American people, are in need of some kind of assistance from the politicians that we have voted into office. I can not fathom how any of them (Democrat or Republican) could knowingly go on vacation leaving us (over 2 million American citizens) with no income. Do they all need a reality check? None of the utility companies or creditors care that they are on vacation and I am left with no means of support until they decide to stop playing with our lives. Who is it that we need to call or write. Now, after vacation, we are waiting on someone to replace a deceased Senator before we know what they have decided. Does anyone other than I see the ridiculousness of this whole situation? I need help... not more procrastination and political game playing.

  67. OK! I'm an ex farm girl who used to milk cows, bale hay, dig in the dirt, chop firewood and clear land. Later, I became an Exec. Assistant to the Mayor of San Francisco and then 3 CEO's of major Corporations. Even later, I handled heavy bags for a major airline and loaded planes. The point is that I, too, am now unemployed and will take ANYTHING I can find! I prefer to work, and I'm so grateful that unemployment was there while I'm exhausting every avenue I know to find ANY job that will have me. I even use gimmicks like offering to work free for a week or so as a "tryout" of my sills and work ethic. There is enormous competition which I learned recently, is about 800-1000 applications a week for one job! I can't listen to the rhetoric of those who are against the extension because "there are jobs out there". All of us are "good faith" former WORKERS and the extension is a STIMULUS that helps us and the economy! Save your rhetoric and bad-mouthing for something like "illegal immigration" who are getting the "free ride".

This is a catastrophic mess and it will get worse if benefits are not extended and jobs are not created soon! Look at Cspan2...music playing - nothing happening. Get these lazy people outta there. 72. I too am unemployed and have just finished my second tier of unemployment. This taking sides and playing politics is bull, but not a surprise. I will be voting straight Democrat in November!!! That too is bull, but it is the way for me and those like me to play politics back. I don't want free money, I want to work. I think the government should come up with a no interest loan program for those who are out of work and out of unemployment. Help them to not become homeless, but not give them a handout. The Republicans should remember that the 8 years of Bush spending and war crimes is what put us in this horrible crisis in the first place. It is funny how many have forgotten that Bush's government borrowed money from China to give stimulus money to every tax paying American (working Americans) more than once. Now they can't give unemployment? It was also Bush's leadership that bailed out the banks!!! However, the Republicans have convinced most people it was Obama who bailed them out.

The Democrats need to grow a pair and start fighting for what is right. It was virtually guaranteed to all go downhill the moment Obama said he would not look into criminal charges against Bush, but would just like to move on. Setting the stage for a passive Democratic government in the wake of Bush's stupidity and sheer lunacy is not the leadership we need. If the Democrats could stand up for what is right and fight for those things like it was their job (because it is), then maybe we would not have jackass Republicans pulling filibusters before the long vacation and those who really need unemployment would still be receiving it. I just don't know....maybe we should wipe the slate clean and start from scratch!

  78. I've been unemployed since October '09 and after working my entire adult life, I can't find a job. I just missed the window of time to file for what would have been my first unemployment extension. I'm a single mother/widow and have always been able to provide for my daughter and myself, but yesterday I was forced to apply for government aid, which I don't even know if I can live on. I can't believe it's come to this. Just pass the bill already.

I have honestly reported all income that I've had since I've been receiving unemployment and even reported myself as unavailable for work when I spent five weeks taking care of my mother after open-heart surgery. I'm sure that there are many like me who are playing by the rules and honestly looking for work.

  82. This is bull. People have been without benefits since June 2nd. The govenment is a joke. So I am going to have to go from being an upstanding citizen to a criminal. I have found no legal way to make money so I guess its time to look into illegal actions. The cost of being a good hard working person for 25 years is homelessness for me and my children. I apply to over 100 jobs a week and I have had 6 interviews in the 6 months I have been unemployed. The last interview was today they said they placed the ad for one week and had 254 resumes. The interview I had before said that they received over 500 resumes and it was posted a couple weeks. 5 employees for each Job my butt. I believe that there are hundreds of employees for each job not 5 to 1 like they claim. We should all stand up in arms and start taking money from the banks since the government just bails them out no matter what happens. The banks will lose nothing. The banks, wallstreet, and the government caused this mess with greed. And again the greedy are saying to bad we don't care if your homeless we get paid no matter what. Go ahead and live on the streets and die and the same with your children. We definetly need to do something to make this issue known.

If we show up in thousands, will they recognize us all then! How about July 29th, a Thursday? Can they ignore 25,000 people marching through their little town or city? We must be heard! This can happen if we all make it happen!

  92. They were not gonna vote until July 19th because they were waiting on Governor Joe Manchin of West Virginia to appoint a replacement for Senator Byrd who died last month. With Governor Manchin replacing Senator Byrd with ANOTHER Democratic Senator, this would have ensured the Senate had enough votes to pass the bill.

However, there is now no need to wait on Governor Manchin because Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska who orginally voted against the bill, stated that he would now support the bill. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, just announced that since Senator Nelson will not support the bill, there is no need to wait until Monday for Governor Manchin.

The vote has been moved up to Thursday!!!
LET'S PRAY THAT IT PASSES. AND IF EVERYBODY VOTES THE WAY THEY SAY THEY WILL VOTE, THE BILL SHOULD BE PASSED AND SIGNED BY PRESIDENT OBAMA BY FRIDAY.

Living on unemployment is no picnic and certainly not being 'spoiled'. In NY the max is $405 a week, which is 3x less than what I made at my job prior to losing it. Now I am living on '0' dollars since my last check was June 20th. I am getting help from my parents for rent, utilities, and food ... but my other bills are running up. This is a sad time in our country where the wealthy are completely out of touch and have no desire to even step into our shoes. Shame on them, I pray one day they get what they deserve!

If the republicans had any heart or compassion for fellow Americans out of work they would vote to extend unemployment. But i am sick of all you idiots spouting off about stimulus do what is right for a change or i can guarantee that all of us out of work will use our vote to make sure that republicans have a lot fewer seats in the house and senate and with millions of us mad you can bet that will happen unless they get a clue. With more democrats in the house and senate maybe we can even get a tier 5 passed that is needed for many Americans.

We also stayed home because we did not have gas to go see fireworks. All those years of being an upstanding citizen for what? And I can't get child support because my ex is a 99er, thats the reason he is my ex. I thought he was not trying hard enough so he lives with his elderly parents and we are about to be homeless. 103. It is a vote for a financial freeze in the budget, put up by the Appropriations Committee. And it is just the opposite of what we wee hoping it was. The senator who read it a couple of hours ago said that it calls for absolutely no further appropriations this year for miltary or "entitlement" spending--that means unemployment, folks. All the Republican senators (41) were on board, and they also had 18 (traitor!) Democrats. And the biggest traitor, D-Nelson of Nebraska, is now on board with them to make it the 60 votes they need! If that passes, I think the unemployment extension issue will be dead in the water.

What I can't understand is why the pro-extension Democrats are not taking the floor to champion our cause. Are they just going to roll over and play dead and let this happen? I emailed my senator--D-Bernie Sanders-VT a couple of hours ago, and I called his Washington office and asked them to please be sure he reads the email, and urge him to take the floor and speak on our behalf.

So right now, the best thing you all can do is CALL your senators' D.C. offices and make your voices heard! Send emails. It's not too late! Cal, call, call...you can find the phone #s easily with Google.

  104. For many people, the biggest draw to the democrat party is the promise of free hand outs. If democrats have a huge base of people due to their worthless social programs, what is their incentive to bring people out of poverty? If a party is "for the poor" how can they help you become rich? Do their policies ever help poor people become wealthy, or just give them enough hand outs to keep them alive until the next election?
superpolitics, i have the right to the pursuit of happiness, don’t i? what if wealth is what makes me happy? can i not get that with the democrats? or do the democrats hold me back because they know how many problems wealth can cause a person? i appreciate them looking out for me…kind of like a parent

It is so hard for me to understand why in the world do wealthy people stay in the Democratic party. The first reason I came up with, is that they want power. If you can be the party with power and keep poor people poor, then you can continue to wield your socialistic agenda.

Will there come a day when the welfare class starts thinking for themselves and shake off the oppression of the socialistic democrats?

As long as the welfare class stays ignorant of the power agenda over them, they will continue to follow their leaders, just like a flock of sheep.

If those two numbskulls had voted yes, this would be a done deal. We wouldn't need to wait for W.VA. Gov. 112. The Democrats are a capitalist party and, as such, they have no interest in lifting people out of poverty.

Great wealth doesn’t come out of thin air. It is created by the raping of the working class. Wealth creates poverty. In a world dominated by capitalism, 42% of the people live in abject poverty on less than $2 per day. That percentage doesn’t include the large number of people in the leading capitalist nations who earn more than $2 per day yet still live in poverty. These are the very people upon whose backs the success of capitalism rests. If those people were treated fairly and provided a living wage, profits would collapse and so too, would capitalism.

The line in the sand isn’t between Republicans and Democrats. They are both on the same side. The line in the sand is between the working class (left-wing) and the wealthy elite (right-wing) whose interests are diametrically opposed. The capitalist gets richer and richer when workers work longer and harder for less and less.

  122. The Democrats and Republicans are both at fault. They are playing fast and loose politics with us – this is ALL political. It is very hypocritical of the Republicans to all of sudden become fiscally responsible on “unemployment extension”…where were they when Obamacare was passed? where were they when the banks were bailed out? where were they when billions of dollars were being BORROWED to fund 2 wars? They do not take a stance when $$ is sent to any other country that needs it, BUT will not support the American people in their particular time of need – where do they get off signing Americans off??!! I FULLY understand that the Republicans want the Democrats to pay for this with stimulus dollars and I agree, BUT quite frankly that does not help me put food on the table today for them to all of sudden develop a conscience. I vote Republican, but they have now lost my support. AND I have been outraged and enraged by the Democrats and their back-door agendas and telling us that they know what is best for us because we have all turned into lemmings (so they think) for years now. They will NOT get my votes either.
All of these guys are morally bankrupt – elected to be Public Servants to serve and protect our interests and once again during our very immense time of need are nowhere to be found. They took another undeserved tax-paid vacation and I have less than $10 to my name. So I am less than happy with their political posturing.

That is only good food and unlike Unemployment, it is welfare - the US Senate is forcing people that are not getting unemployment to go on welfare! How many more days of this humiliation are we supposed to take? I am actively searching for a job, but I'm nearly 63 years old, and don't tell me there's no age discrimination - I've only been able to get to one interview in eleven months and I did not get the position - "overqualified" was mentioned. I worked for 46 years - since I was 16 - and every employer paid State and Federal Unemployment Tax on my earnings - this is an insurance, not welfare - what happened to all the money - did Congress use it like they did Social Security?

  130. Yes, 2 years is more then enough time to find a job, so is 6 months. There is no reason we should have to even worry about extensions. There is only one problem we have been sending all of our jobs overseas for many years. When I was a kid we used to say we made stuff and Japan improved it. Now we say we make stuff and China makes it cheaper in all ways. We can not get jobs because we do not have any to get. I say hey what the hell lets just export the President and Congress to China. If they send our jobs overseas why not send theirs too. This country was founded by fighters now we just sit back and take everything they throw at us. This country will be poorer then Mexico pretty soon. Hey are we not sending our jobs there too.

Minimum wage and conditions would have to be equal to ours or we would charge a tariff to make up the differance. Country's with higher standards than ours would charge a tariff on our goods. Eventually this will lead to better wages for everyone. Add to this labor unions world wide and we just may have freedom and justice for all.

  133. WITHOUT TIER 5 I'M DONE! I am a 47 yr old male worked since 16. I have applied for sooooo many jobs over the last year and a half. I took 2 temp to perm jobs in that time, only to get laid off by both and had to go back to collecting unemployment just to pay the basics of staying a living civil human. I applied for about 100 jobs in the month of June. I have had 5 interviews in the last 2 weeks. still no job. No telling why. I just don't seem to get picked. No phone calls to let me know. Not a word... I just received my final unemployment check, a partial check at that. $125. Without a tier 5 that's it. Over down. No income what so ever. I'm completely broke with out even a chance to continue. Less than half the rent is paid for July. The rest of this week and next I will be struggling to land a job. I will also be throwing the few things I still own after selling anything I had that I could sell. That was done over the last year, parting with my things just to get by. The $279 a week unemployment didn't cover everything. It did however allow me to survive with a roof over my head. It allowed me to pay the phone and electric and gas to get to interviews. I still had a chance to get back in the game. Now I am striped of that dignity. The only roof I will have now is a 1989 Nissan. I hope to fit a few of the things like clothes, my computer, some old pictures, etc. I'm sure there won't be room for much. I'm moving across state in with Mommy & Daddy. We are very dysfunctional. Dad who has leukemia will be down my throat and kicking me out by day 2. My 76 year old mother will be crying a lot. I will end up leaving homeless with no where to go. I have self pride and dignity to the point that you won't see me begging on the corner or holding up a sign in the streets. I would rather die! I will make that as public as possible. If we do still have freedom of speech I would like to end by telling all you F-ing A-holes in politics that you truly are F-ing A-Holes. Democrats, Republicans, whatever your all crooked in your own ways and have run this country to the ground. That's all my opinion and my right to freedom of speech allows me to express it. My ancestors and close family members fought and died for this country. Little did they know it was all in for something they would not have supported. They would have never fought for what has become of America.

  134. Ok... So, lets get something straight people! For all you smacktards out there complaining about not getting your full amount of benefits like the 99'rs...Well, stop being so short-minded in your "rant" allocations. ALL benefits need to be extended including the 99'rs !! If anyone in their right mind thinks that this issue of unemployment will be fully resolved by November/December(when the current proposal of UI ends) is just blatantly ignorant. Benefits should be extended until such a time that the Labor statistics show that there is no longer a need for extended UI. You fail at seeing the "bigger" picture. This is simply a BAND-Aid yet again in some frivolous attempt to subdue the american people into not making such a big stink towards our elected officials/government. The unemployment rate will stay exactly where it is for the next two years at a minimum. So, whether you've exhausted your current tier or all tiers altogether you'll soon find yourself as a "99'r" and still no jobs available. At least not enough to subside the rising unemployment rate and the poverty rate that will follow. Think about what you say... The isuue isnt going away anytime soon and all should consider themselves "99'rs" until such a time that the national Unemployment rate is below the % that it was prior to the idiotic spending and tax cuts, deregulation, creating the vehicle that put us americans where we are today. In serious doubt of our entire future including our children.

  139. (continued) Now I am striped of that dignity.

  141. OK People, in doing some research on the Senate now having 60 Votes, I have discovered that they do indeed have 60 votes, BUT NOT FOR THE UNEMPLOYMENT EXTENSION!!!! It is for a Financial Regulation Bill. They FINALLY got the extra vote of Senator Ben Nelson for this particular bill.

I pray that HE WILL ALSO SUPPORT THE UNEMPLOYMENT EXTENSION!!! I too am unemployed and just like many of you, I have followed this whole voting process. It's a downright shame that the American Citizens should have to live like this. I am a degreed professional who have worked for the last 11 years, and my unemployment was cut.

It kills me to hear people speak about unemployed people being lazy. I made $1500 week while working. THAT IS NOT to be compared the less than $500 a week I get from Unemployment. I'D LOVE TO GET BACK TO WORK.....THE WORK JUST ISN"T THERE. I was recently told I was overqualified for a job. So now I feel like I'm being screwed 2 ways.

Anyway, until Senator Ben Nelson changes his mind concerning the Actual UNEMPLOYMENT EXTENSION, or until Governor Joe Manchin names a replacement for Senatory Joe Byrd, it looks like we may have to wait until next week.

Governor Manchin could have appointed himself to get the vote in and THEN named an official replacement. THESE POLITICIANS ARE KILLING ME!!!

  142. At least in prison they give you a roof over your head, food to eat and toilet paper. It is getting to that point where I may have to go over to Central Park and take a few Rolexes off the wrists of some unsuspecting tourists from Europe. I used to think that crime didn't pay, but now I believe that it may be time to roll the dice and take a chance that I may not have taken before. Kinda sad to write this, but I believe this is what a lot of people are considering. If you have to feed your family, will you actually lose sleep over robbing some foreigner who doesn't really care about you!? Think about that!

  143. People, are you calling your senators' Washington offices? Are you calling NOW?! It's not hard to do. Swamp those phone lines--make your voices heard! Posting on the internet won't get the message out to those who can DO something. They're still there; they're not going home yet. Turn off Oprah/Dr.Phil/the Game Show Network/etc., and turn on C-Span, where your future is going to be decided. If the calls come flooding in, someone will notice, and attention will be paid. Just DO it!!

The most disturbing thing about being unemployed is sitting at home (if you still have a home) and listening to all of the TV Commericals on why we should vote for the next candidate for office. I will be voting in November, but it will be based on what I have know is not working in our current government.

  162. I am so glad to see that this topic is getting publicity and coverage by the press and the Internet. It's simple these IDIOTS are OUT OF TOUCH WITH WHAT IS GOING ON THIS COUNTRY!! Tier 5 is beyond what IS NEEDED. There are MILLIONS OF PEOPLE OUT THERE THAT CAN'T FIND JOBS-and this is the payback that we taxpaying American's get. I would like to start another topic of thought. Is it possible to sue the government for not doing the right thing and extending benefits? It's just so FRUSTRATING and I'm holding back what word I really want to use. CONGRESS- SENATORS- The most powerful thing that we Americans can do is TAKE AWAY OUR VOTES FOR YOU AND YOUR PARTIES!!!!!!
    GO TO HELL!!!

  164. At this point I almost would like to see no extensions what so ever. I think I would prefer to watch as the crime rate explodes (which it already is). Watch the economy get worse (which it is). See more foreclosures (which we are). I want to see the politicians weep as they lose everything they've got. When I see it. I won't give a damn. I might even smile! I would love to see it escalate to civil war. See some real change. See you running to your underground bunkers. If I'm gonna starve homeless bet your ass I want to see you all do the same!

    ReplyDelete
  165. If I were in congress I would do everything I could to help Americans. But the sad part about all of this is...These Democrats and Republicans who are "voting" for our future are in such a protected world with everyone kissing there ass that they have no clue what is really happening in the real world. They may see it on the news but it is like us seeing the high life on the news or TV...we disreguard it. If any one of them had the balls to walk a day in our shoes.... And where do those people think there food comes from, or there cars, teachers, gas, hair cuts all the goods and service comes from us and the people who help them we help them and the chain goes on and on. but they don't sit and think that. It is sad. They need to slow down and look outside of their private island and see the "real world".

  166. This is basic politics causing Americans to suffer. Obama could get this bill paid for and passed by the Republican Party but he wont! Employers are scared to hire due to new healthcare taxes that could be imposed on them in the future. 5.5 Billion a month spent on a never ending war. Our population is growing but jobs are declining. Americans are suffering due to the personnal agenda our President is working towards. The Republicans voting are hard nosed and will not budge, but it was stated they would vote Yes for the extension if it was paid for. To me, Obama is blocking the extension as well as the Republican party. Americans are suffering for their political image. Sad

  167. March on your state's capitol July 29th. It will show a sign of unity and that the unemployed are PEOPLE TOO! To all of you people that think it is easy to get a job, read the posts that are on this site alone. If you truly think that extended unemployment benefits should end, and you are not just trying to make people feel worse about their issue, then you have a real problem. I hope that you too become unemployed and can feel for yourself just what a tragedy this is for the so many people who really do want to get back to work but cannot. Do you think you are safe at your job? Think again.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Have you called your senator's office yet?? What are you waiting for?? Call the Washington office. If you don't want to pay for a toll call, then call their local in-state office. Or email them. All these options are available and easy to find. So many think the unemployed are lazy, and if you don't bother to make your voice heard, you're just validating that assumption. "Well, people aren't calling or writing, so maybe it's not that big a problem." Is that what you want them to believe? You voice counts; it makes the senators and/or their staff PAY ATTENTION! Do it now--no excuse not to is good enough. Let them know how this has affected you and your family, and tell them you want action on this ASAP--not in a week or two weeks. SPEAK UP!!

  170. Here is a simple solution.
    Legalize Marijuana.....simple as that.
I live in NY, and currently pay a tax
on cig's that is over 100% of the value
of the product itself. If it was legalized,
it could be taxed heavily. Plus, there is the added benefit that we could reduce the budget for the "war on drugs"....biggest joke ever. There is no difference between this and the liquor laws of the past. Now is the time to
smarten up and get our heads out of our asses!

I think I can afford the ammo for my piece. You have no heart to say these things on here. I hope that you choke on your Burger King tonight. I hope that none of your friends are there to save you. Then when you are gone, one of the hard working people who cannot find a job will simply slide into your position. See you in Hell.

A friend of mines mother has been receiving unemployment benefits for over a year, and I can't even get it for 26 weeks!! This is my first week with no income! I have been watching c-span through out the day. When I put the channel on there is nothing going on. Music is playing all the time and it says at the bottom of the screen "waiting for the senators to speak". Every time I went to that channel that is what was going on. My family didn't have a 4th celebration. We were to numb to do anything. Had no money. This should be against the law what they are doing to us. They can't get this bill passed but they managed to pass a bill giving themselves a PAY RAISE recently. MONEY FOR HAITI..MONEY FOR THEIR PAY RAISE BUT NOTHING LEFT FOR US. WHY ISN'T THE MEDIA REPORTING ON THIS ISSUE? THIS IS A REAL EMERGENCY/CRISIS. THE NEW CHANNELS DON'T SAY MUCH ABOUT IT. I HOPE SOMETHING BAD HAPPENS TO ALL OF THE SENATORS AND THEIR FAMILIES. IT SOUNDS HORRIBLE BUT I THINK THEY DESERVE IT.

  192. hello my fellow americans its been a while since i've written on one of these sites i am currently unemployed like the millions that visit this website trying to figure out if the senate passed the bill already.
well this rant goes off to both parties in the senate. since you republicans have made it clear your not wanting to pass this unemployment extension how bout the democrats meet you half way. republicans want unused stimulus funds to be used, and stop adding to our enormous debt created by these jackasses in office, and the democrats dont seem to mind adding to the deficit and still use the stimulus funds in adding 25 more dllrs more to our unemployment checks every week. will what i think is you all should let us the people decide or maybe even create a bill my proposal right of the back would be to meet both parties in the middle add 17 billion to the deficit and use 17 billion from the stimulus funds and still recieve those 25 dllrs per week, that be my proposal. and while both parties of jackasses argue who's right and who's wrong i think we the people dont care were the money comes from we just want to pay our bills and eat a homemade meal. look senators election time is near and to be honest which ever party passes the bill is going to look like the heroes to us and come election time you wont be forgotten. alittle more that i wanted to add senators help create more jobs for us, use some of the stimlus money and create jobs, save teachers jobs, small business' and create a new bill that stops american companys from outsourcing and those company's that have outsourced force them to come back to the USA. this is a time were american people like myself are suffering help us americans in this time of need or senators should we pretend were another country so that you all come running to the rescue. save the american people first and save the rest of the world's people later. EXTEND THE UNEMPLOYMENT FUNDS!!!!!!!!!

  197. I just spoke w/Senator Harry Reid's office, it seems Senator Reid controls the calendar for that Congress uses to schedule votes on pending legislation.

Per the office representative I spoke with - THERE IS NO SCHEDULED VOTE FOR THE EXTENSION OF UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS SCHEDULED FOR JULY 19th! According to
Senator Reid's office person Senator Reid doesn't want to put the bill up to a vote until he knows it will pass!

I don't know if main stream media is intentionally publishing the misleading article that the vote will be Monday, July 19th or if someone from Senator Reid's office is supplying incorrect information to the media (I'm leaning towards the latter). Senator Reid's WA office number is not "published" you can reach him by contacting the Senate Operator at 202.224.3121 and asking for the office of Senator Reid.

When I asked the receptionist on how Senator Reid expected those of us who have no income due to being cut off from unemployment - her response was APPLY FOR STATE WELFARE!

Nice? These are the kind of people we have running our country? I verified that Senator Reid is up for "re-election" in November? She responded YES, I asked her how she thought
Senator Reid would enjoy his UNEMPLOYMENT after November?

She hung up on me! If you are unemployed & losing everything please call and let
Senator Reid know! Even though he tried to avoid receiving any calls, well I guess he never came up against A LONG TERM UNEMPLOYED SECRETARY!
