A 99er Tier 5 Unemployment Extension 2010 Available Soon?

The 99ers need a Tier V unemployment extension in 2010 - not later. As soon as possible, there are hopes that Debbie Stabenow's Americans Want to Work Act S3706 will make its way through Congress and to the desk of the President.

Of course, we are dealing with an election year right now, and there could be a lot of distractions along the way. The elections could postpone any headway on the measure, but that has yet to be seen.

Still yet, the most recent jobs report indicates a jump in jobless claims...again.  There are millions of unemployed Americans out there who need more than the customary 26 weeks plus 73 additional weeks of federal extensions.

So 99 weeks are not enough for many, and so Stabenow's bill will add an additional 20 weeks. This, of course, is only a temporary measure. To combat the long-term problem, Stabenow suggests offering tax incentives to businesses who hire long-term unemployed workers.

This is needed, so be sure you fight for this if you need the Tier 5 unemployment extension.

  1. Come on now...it doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out that this economy is in dire straights!
Stop the bull and pass the bill!!!
If these greedy jerks wait until after the election I doubt they will be the ones that will cast a vote on this or any other bill!

  2. My problem with the bill is that it will be retroactive in time only and not compensation, like the extesnion that they recently signed.

  3. I sincerely hope that they pass this. My state (MD) only allowed 79 weeks total, so hopefully people will be able to apply and receive assistance. I WANT to work!! I have been a PC technician for over 20 years, and can't find employment. I have filled out over 124 applications, but I have come to realize that once your over 50, nobody wants you. Your considered a "Medical Liability". Very Sad indeed!

  10. This bill passing is only great news to the states with a 10% Unemployment rate or over, what about the rest of us in lower than 10% rate??? I feel that this is just more BS,to make Obama look good!! And when it hits the airwaves,It will be "Doctored up",to make it sound like it's "Saving EVERYONE,so Obama looks like a "Savior".

  11. Congress and Pres. Obama, why aren't you helping us? We 99ers/exhaustees are in desperate waters, many of us sinking fast. We are not lazy, we are professionals and hard-working people who have been productive all our lives. Help us now! NOW!

  15. 99ers, lets march on Washington, camp out in front of the white house and don't leave until they pass this bill. What else do we have to do, we don't have to get up for work the next morning. I bet if everyone in the nation stopped paying their mortgages, bills and stopped spending money, that would get their attention. The people have so much power to change this government, yet, we just sit and complain. Let's march, rebel and get noticed.

  18. Every week more than 300k loose their jobs, and jobs are not much there to compinsate for those weekly numbers. By the time congress passes tier 5, another will be needed because this whole time while we've been recieving our tier 5 congress has not done enough yet to still make an impact on unemployment, so we will need a tier 6 and the cycle begins again. We need a true extension that will surpass congress's bickering and stalling until states jobless percentages improve.

  19. Come you guys, You know as well as I know that it is going to take a hell allot more then 20 weeks to get this economy going.

  20. As long as the unemployment crisis exists (over 6.5%) across the country, we MUST offer additional assistance to our fellow citizens!

This is America!! We have contributed to the foundations of this country all our lives --- only to have the corporations "take the money and run"! The government, President and Congress, had better deal with the reality of the depth of the dire straits in our cities and streets... Please send us leadership that is UP to this challenge.

  22. Barack Obama’s Social security number shows that he’s a Connecticut born and may have passed away a while back. Two private investigators are looking for more information.

The Post-Partisan Examiner reports, “Also raising eyebrows? The first record use of the social security number by Obama did not occur until a 1986 employment record – when he would have been in mid twenties and a college graduate.
Obama Guilty of a felony !!!???
    by obfelony
    Background

It has been reported that Barack Hussein Obama has used various social security numbers. These have been derived from national databases. Most of the ones reported are most likely erroneous information. However, there is one that stands out. It is the number 042-68-4425 that was issued out of the state of Connecticut. It is this number that he has fraudulently used ( and possibly still using ) and is thus guilty of multiple felonies.

    Evidence

The following pictures show the result of a Freedom of Information request of Barack Hussein Obama's Selective Service registration. The main thing to notice from this is the Selective Service number he was issued : 61-1125539-1.

  24. To Joanna, yes the help is needed; however, congress is on recess/vacation until Sept. 13, 2010. Even after it reconvenes, the bill must get out of committee, be presented to the floor and then let the debates (fireworks) begin. It seems to be the consensus of all that this will not pass until December. (In other words, after the Nov. elections). Even passage is up in the air, depending who ends up in the majority after the elections. I wonder why it matters if the Dems or the Repubs control the senate or house? Common sense or compassion should not be partisan. The reality is that the millions who cannot find jobs, do in fact, want jobs! Both my husband and I are "99'ers, and while I continue to apply endlessly for jobs, seldom receiving a response, I do look to our government to either create jobs or help us with food and housing until jobs are as plentiful as the line is long at food pantry’s and residents of tent cities or living in cars can find safe housing!! This has been my prayer daily.

  25. I have said in the past and in emails to my elected reps that any extension MUST be long term until such time as the economy shows improvement. I recommended that the extensions last until such time as unemployment is below 5% for 26 consecutive weeks. I would also like to add that Congress should be looking into the employers who refuse to hire the unemployed ( See Unemployed Need Not apply).
If necessary hit each employer that has engaged in this practice with a steep fine that would amount to 30% of their total profits for the last decade. Also go after CEO/CFO's, board members and upper management of these companies and indicate that this practice of discrimination will not be tolerated.

    BUT !
Unfortunately probably the only way Washington will take notice is if the unemployed at 15 million and growing would march on the city and shut it down

  28. This week I become a 99er. I've submitted 100's of resumes. My 34 year old son and his family of 6 have moved in with my wife and I (he lost his job 6 months ago). My wife found a part time job at minimum wage. Cobra eligibility ran out so we have no health insurance. It gets a little overwhelming at times.

I get up everyday and believe this is the day I'll find a job. A Tier V would certainly be helpful. I pray for everyone in this crappy position.

  29. I agree nothing to do with race. It was in the bill that EVERYBODY was going to get the last extension and come to find out, the Republicans voted to get that omitted. Yes, its the REpublicans and that one stupid democrat that is really a republican. Now we as 99ers have to depend upon the other sane democrats to get us another extension for 99ers. Obama's first bill included an extension for all and a job creation plan and of course the lovely stupid republicans struck it down now the other democrats are trying so keep complaining to the politicans.

  32. Unemployment benefit should be extended undefinately until the rate is below 7.5%. This is a magic point at which the economy can sustain itself to futher reduce the rate and increase the societal efficiency.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Get ready everyone....Congress more than likely will not be passing any extension for us 99ers. My wife and I both have been there for a while. It's all a numbers game. If the Tier 5 is passed then the unemployment rate increases drastically. If Tier 5 is not passed then it looks as though the economy is not suffereing too baly. It's all a smokescreen to not have to help fellow needy Americans. Then the President and Congress can go on their many vacations at the expense of us. America is in a great decline and is spiraling out of control. Get ready for Real Change everyone. America as we know it is going to change alot. Can you see a joining of North America into one United North America just to get rid of our problems. No more illegal immigrants if Canada, America, and Mexico form one Union. No more deline of the US Dollar. The government will just create a new form of currency called the Amero. Everyone can have health insurance like Canada currently does. Big Change is on the way.

  35. You uneducated 99ers are screwed. And when you are stupid, it kind of is hard to find a job.

Don't respond with "I have a college diploma" or some other drivel. The fact is, you obvious you didn't have the foresight to look into the future to see what jobs would be in high demand. You stuck with your job until it was obsolete and now you are crying to me, the taxpayer, for a free handout.

I hope you just all starve to death and take your families to the grave with you.

  36. It's absurd to hear some of the reasonings Republicans are against passing a tier 5. They stereotype all the unemployed as ppl that are look n for handouts and, as long as we r receiving such benefits we will not look for work. Of course, i could go on & on....but, some of their comments are not worth dignifying with a response. First of all, it's not just the middle class and poor that are unemployed....Republicans have lost their jobs and way of life too! So, to those that are blocking it's passage i say this to you...i've been a proud, hard working, law abiding, independent american / citizen all of my life and u have the audacity to group (stereotype) all the unemployed as being lazy, not seeking work, looking for handouts is very degrading. 99ers have lost their way of life, their livelihood and, now u want to take the only thing we have left our pride, humility & dignity and, force us to get down on bended knee and beg u to pass a tier 5.....how u have not been able to see the urgency of passing this bill is mind bottling....yes, i'm writing alot bcuz, i have alot to say.....but, i will close by say n this....plz do not continue to insult the 99ers intelligence by say n we r not look n for work bcuz, we r content with receiving unemployment benefits. "99ers, are not living off of unemployment benefits......we are EXISTING!!!" There's a difference!!! Unemployment is a way of life, survival for ppl...most are already so far in debt anyway unemployment is not considered a bailout of sorts....u can't catch up on ur mortgage, car notes, credit card payments, etc...it's all about survival now....just being able to continue to keep food on the table....that's all we have left.... the day we 99ers lost our jobs was the very day we lost our way of life.....our EVERYTHING!!! You continue to take vacations and, ur now on an extended month long vacation while we continue to suffer, worry & wonder when and if the bill will pass speaks volumes.....and, we the 99ers will speak volumes also with our vote in November..."We are 99ers Fedup...We are 99ers United!!!"

  38. This is what many do not KNOW. 99er to most people, means 99 Weeks. I am a 99er. i have only received 41 weeks of unemployment with the emergency included TOTAL. I have nothing else left. So 99er does not mean we received 99 weeks of unemployment. i want a job so bad. another comment was also made that mostly people with no education are unemployed. i have a PhD and I am 53 years old. I CAN NOT FIND A JOB. I do not want unemployment - but a real job. This economy is bad. I lost my house and everything else due to no work for well over 1 an a half years. i have worked at the age of 16, even served in the military and never ever was unemployed until now. please help all of these people with a TIER 5. THEY REALLY NEED IT. I am a single dad with a 10 year old son, going thru this hell. If I did not have my son, I do not even know what I would do. He keeps me strong. I pray for a Miricle to happen. 42. This is more than just a numbers game. Every 25-40 years our economy goes through this change. Bankruptcies, lay-offs, business stagnation and, an increase in population. This in turn creates a stress in job opportunities. The interim job market is not allowing for hiring new employees because, employees are not changing jobs as is the usual case. Also the baby boom generation is still hanging in there and refuses to retire. All the Government can do is assist us financially until the job market opens up again. They do not want to create dependecy on unemployment subsidies. However, what I think is going to happen is there will be more 20-25 hour a week employment and less 40 hour a week jobs. At least this will give people something to live on until they can accumulate more hours through another part-time job. This is good for businesses because they will pay less employee taxes. Of course no one will be happy about this either but,if that's the way it's going to be, then that's the way it will be. The Government will probably subsidize a tier 5 but only after the last minute, which will still leave us all behind in our cost of living. Although the computer generation created jobs, it also eliminated jobs and is still eliminating jobs. Marshall Wright

I am also a 99er and cant find a job here in Florida may mortgage is three months behind, my electrical bill is ready to be turned off, My water was turned off last week thank god for my parents. And I have two children starting high school in three days, and they have no school supplies or clothes that fit. Never mind that i have no money for gas in order to take them back and forth to school, I have to asks neighbors to take them to the closest cross street on their way to work, Its really becoming a matter of life and death. Thank God we get food stamps but thats only $365.00 a month for three people and by the second week were having to eat peanut butter and Jelly for Dinner thank gos the kids eat lunch for free at school. My daughter cries at night because she is worried we will be homeless so. No child should have to feel this much stress. Please stop playing games with our lives and start thinking of others ( all the politicians in Washington) MAY GOD BLESS US ALL

  45. I am shocked how little is said about one key fact regarding unemployment benefits: They are treated as taxable income by the states and the feds! Worst case for the Govt is they will collect back 22-35% of the amount paid out as income tax next April. And that assumes the recipients stuffed the cash under their mattress! So the return on the investment for Uncle Sam is as good as they bragged about today on the GM bailout if the unemployed put the money in their bbq grills!

  49. Charles Johnson and the racist on here are sad people don't get racial because your benefits are gone try to help others and worry the politicans to death to pass it. Don't you know that every time Obama tries to do a job creation bill, etc., the REPUBLICANS veto it and strike it down?????? This is not about race and the president can only do so much if you had some sense, you would realize that he had to beg them to pass the last one and it did not get passed until that new democrat was sworn it. The republicans hate obama and they are striking down everything. That is why we as a people of all colors, races, etc., have to vote the republicans OUT. WE NEED THE TIER 5

    ReplyDelete
  50. I have been a lifelong Republican and even with the loss of my job and extended unemployment (108 weeks and counting), I would have remained true to the Republican ideals of conservative fiscal policy with minimal public assistance had our leaders not sold their souls with the Big Bank/Wall Street Bailout. But to throw trillions at those scumbags and then cry poor is unforgivable. I want my slice. If Uncle Sam has it for bankers and auto execs, he better have some for me! Both sides of the aisle are scumbags.

    ReplyDelete
  51. The Republicans must go and everybody needs to vote them out. They are worried about national debt while we as Americans who have lost our jobs due to no fault of our own is just worried about surviving. Therefore, EVERYBODY on this site, needs to send the White House, Nancy Peloski, their congresman, etc., emails, faxes, calls, etc., begging for the Tier 5 while we try and continue to look for work. Don't let the racial comments on here and that fool Charles Johnson, or that comment about Obama's ss number worry you. I could care less about a person's color, where they came from, as long as my family is okay with a roof over their heads, clothes, and food. I agree Obama had to stress to them that we needed another extension and they VETOED it down for the 99ers and the job creation bill. But the REpublicans want to continue taking care of the rich. Do not forget that folks election time. Republicans are NOT for us.

  58. To everyone who's still checking out the latest comments posted and to the ones who are new comers to the sight, this is truly the beginning of the end. Whether democrat or a republican, I strongly believe like many others that it's all the same. Truth be told if people still remember from thier history classess, years ago many many years ago, democrats used to actually be more unjust than the republicans of today. I'm A.A. and know this to be a part of all our history no matter our backgrounds and race is. Revalation is upon us like white on rice, that's why you have people like Charles Johnson leaving such unremorseful comments. His soul is already doomed for a special spot in hell, which I don't wish upon anyone. It just goes to show how careless and heartless man has become over time. For instance, the people over in Pakistan home is constantly be covered by water leaving the people of the land to live off of the enemies benefits while their government sits back and debate on what's the best solution on feeding and sheltering them. You see how swiftly the devil moved in on them, by having the enemies try and take the upper hand knowing these people will take what ever is being issued to them to provide for their families. I might be inncorrect about the exact country but I'm sure someone on here knows what I'm talking about. This way when it's time for them to vote on leaders or whatever they do to elect government officals the poor is going to be in favor of their once enemies only to repeat the past. We as Americans will also be repeating the past. Before it gets to the point of going to far back it's going to be some major blood shed and tears to fall upon the good ole US-of-A. I'm a 99er myself but my faith relies on the creator of the heavens and earth, not man. I've always asked myself why in the hell do we have to elect anyone to run a country? When it wasn't certain peoples land to begin with? Stolen from Aztecs ancestors, but no want to make immigration illegal. I pray for us all because at the end of the day we are going to all need more than just 20wks of extensions. May the Lord in Heaven have mercy on us all and pray for the sick and flicked all over the world. Amen, lights and water. Praying for help for everyone and for mankind to find some bit of heart and compasion for other fellow men.

  59. "We need a true extension that will surpass congress's bickering and stalling until states jobless percentages improve."...... AMEN

I personally would love to work doing anything at this point. 370 applications since November, one interview. Which I was told I was too nice to be a manager and over qualified to be an employee. I just applied for cash assistance for the first time with the state of Florida and was told unless I can pay rent I can't get help. I do not understand that at all. I worked 2 to 3 jobs my entire life at the same time. I have had 2 part time seasonal jobs since 2008. 3 of the jobs I've had went to another country. Americans need to stand together and say bring our jobs and factories back to American soil. UNITED WE STAND meant something 50 years ago.

  60. To Denise, you'd better read the proposed bill again. It states: " for States with Unemployment rates at 10% or above".

    ReplyDelete
  61. Correction to you Steve, there is two bills being presented at the same time, one is for the 99ers to have their benefits extended for 20wks in states with 7.5% or higher unemployment and another one for those in a state with 10% or more for an additional 17wks. Either way it goes, I say it should be extended to all unemployed or the jobless as they've come to call us no matter what percent of unemployment your state falls into. Truly sad how the government has us resorting back to caveman times. History repeats itself so well because we've let it. Our own citizens who were raised from a baby just like the rest of us unto an adult now runs America and forget where they came from. God is going to start making some changing sooner than we think. Just continue to stay prayerful everyone, which is another topic for another day.
