After Jobless Claims Increase by 500000, a Tier 5 Unemployment Extension Needed More

Jobless claims increased by 500,000 this week, and a Tier V unemployment extension is needed now more than ever. There will be more and more people that eclipse the 99 week mark, and with jobs sloughing off the economy faster than ever before the outlook isn't good.

It's not as if they government hasn't bailed out Wall Street, the auto industry and pretty much industry that placed their hand out for cash.  It's not as if we haven't sent billions of dollars in humanitarian aid to other countries.

And it's not like those on Capital Hill haven't benefitted from their offices.  American people who pay taxes would much rather see that money go to their neighbor than into the hands of an irresponsible company.

Still yet, there's no definitive schedule on when a Tier 5 bill will be passed.  There is a bill in both the House and the Senate, and getting politicians on the same page is not going to be an easy task.

While the Senate is out in their home states doing work, it's never been a better time for the unemployed to try to reach them.

  5. I have lost my home, my car and my dignity. Wall Street Execs jump off board, with billions of our dollars, and on and on, yet the worker in the US is accused of being lazy while on unemployment. I made $62K in my last full year of employment, since being laid off in Feb of 09, I have sent out over 250 Resumes, only two responses, by letter informing me the position was filled. Not a single interview. Come December, I will be looking for Corrugated Refrigerator Boxes to have some shelter in the cold Northeast.

  10. I am losing my home.....I have no money to eat, and in Michigan, I have applied for job after job with no results. You can apply for all the jobs you want to online, but it is not like the good old days when you can call an employer, or take your resume in personally. I have become just a number.

  11. When President Obama wanted to be elected, he promised that JOBS would be priority. Then, there came the Gulf oil spill. I guess that was priority. Now the headlines have changed, and nobody remembers us 99ers. We're still here, hungry, homeless, foreclosed on and desperate. Mr. Obama, you bailed out the banks and the auto companies, how about bailing out the American people. The congress and senate need to find the money before they can help us. Where did you find the money to bail out the fat cats on wall street?

  13. I was employed for 30 years until 2009 as a software engineer. Apparently I'm not employable after two years of searching. Younger and less experienced people can work for less per month than my mortgage payment.

I'm three months behind on my house payments, and it looks like I'll be homeless in September. I have never taken hand-outs in my 45 years of working. My unemployment benefits have barely kept a roof over my head. I'm a few years too young for social security. I have no idea what I will do.

  16. OK, I have already lost my housr so this will not affect me, but if I heard the story correctly, the Federal Govt has set up a fund to bail out homeowners in trouble (thats cool), yet homeowners that make their payments on time will be subject to an additional tax to pay for the others in trouble. Where is the motivation to pay your mortgage then? Typical Obama math!

  17. You folks can bicker all you want but nobody important is reading any of this unless you harass your state senator's and mail the president your grief. It's the only way to put pressure on this guys.

  18. President Obama is a punk bitch. He was on the news this morning talking about how congress is stalling a jobs bill to put americans back to work. Why didn't he say anything about an emergency extension. I mean come on how the hell are businesses gonna start hiring if the unemployed don't have any money to contribute to the economy. It doesn't make any sense. It seems to me that he's on this presidency ride for his own benefit more than doing the peoples work. Sure he got wall st reform done..little to late for that...sure he got health care passed...but won't kick in till another few year's...And companies aren't going to hire with out special interest help such as tax cuts for the top 2% of wealthy hogs. And all because they hold the most shares in companies and are scared of losing money.

  19. I've been thinking about killing myself on a daily basis, there's really nothing else to live for lately after losing everything I've ever worked hard for and now I'm back home living with my parents broke not a penny to my name and not even a car since I couldn't afford car insurance after I lost my unemployment..My last job my salary was 55k, now I have nothing...It's so depressing, some days I don't even get out of bed...Screw this country!

  23. This is bullshit!
I'm so sick & tired of all of this!
I've called, faxed and emailed my reps. including the President and we still have to wait for help! Now there's talk that this bill won't come up until after the elections...are they kidding?!
How the hell are we supposed to exist never mind live until then??!!
Tier 5 should be and should have been TOP priority months ago!!!!!!

  24. I hope Obama enjoyed his little stay in the White House cause 2012 he can kiss his ass out of office. Come 2013 there will be a new President cause all he did was tell lie after lie. To the people who always want to blame the Republicans....remember the Democrats could have put a bill in much earlier. It's both sides to blame not just one, how ironic that both parties put in a tier 5 bill right before they go out campaigning for their jobs....I guarantee I will not vote for any current senator in my state..none..nada...I would rather put a fresh face in office. My final thought, I will deal with the irs in later years cause when I do get a job....screw you I won't be paying tax to work. I will claim as many as needed just so I don't pay state or federal tax, Least I know my money won't be going to a foreign country or wall street!

  25. The existing companies and businesses that are hiring have now become just as bad as the goverment. What very few jobs that are available have had the offered pay slashed down to poverty wages, part-time with very little benefits. They all suck in my book and now these proposed bills to give companies even more tax breaks if they do start hiring. Screw that, I say take away the tax incentives they already have if they don't start hiring. They are all nothing more than a bunch of greedy sewage scum exploiting and taking advantage of desperate unemployed folks.

  27. I am tired of having to wait to be considered inportant enough to vote for something so necessary. Their should be no doubt about a Tier 5. I have interviewed for several jobs and there are so many of us trying to get that one job. I need this money to pay my bills. Come election I will remember being treated this way, and I hope all of the unemployed will too. We need a change in Congress, they do not care about us and we voted them in to represent us. The American people have been consistently screwed: over and over again. TIER 5!!!!TIER 5!!!!!!TIER 5!!!!! WE NEED HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

  30. i'm a 99 -
    and i seriously don't believe
    anyone in congress
    reads any of these comments
    or blogs

we have the right to comment
    but who is really listening

    i watched for 2 months-the U S Senate floor for the first time since-i've been unemployed-and my
mouth droped to what i was viewing

i got scared for my life-
because these people in congress-seriously control our lives-they determine what is law and whats not to be law-
it appears since the GOP were shocked
    when Obama won the presidency

it appears from their actions on the congressional floor-
(as if they made a pact with each other)-that whether for the good of the country or not-
all legislation proposed -by the Majority-was going to be knocked
down before the first round is even over

for me personally- it was HELL watching it-
they have been there so long
they forgotton why they were elected
-they have lost their edge-they have become jaded
    i say they-but it really isn't ALL
    only a handful-fight for us

my first experience -of the goings
on in Congress-and i'm am scared

11 republican incumbents-in the Senate -up for re-election Nov 2nd

  32. I am so disgusted with our government. They dont care or even want to pretend to care to get votes.

All career politicians, especially Republican politicians have got to be voted out.

People ask yourselves this, if your representative has done nothing for you, why would you vote that person back in again??????

  34. Congress dont give a damn about your children and you suffering, or how bad it is for you to lose your home and be homeless, hungry, children's immune systems being weakened, no school supplies. They just DONT CARE, even if you voted for them.
We need to NOT vote for any Republican or Democrat, vote Independant Only. When they see the low low numbers, and even possibly being voted out, they might get the message. They feel they are ENTITLED to the excessive liberty's and excessive pay and vacations, the best health care, etc. They do not earn even half of the $ 174,000.00. They do NOT WORK the full year. How many of you will ever make $175k a year and only work maybe 7-8 months out of the year ?????? Just to turn your back on those who supported and voted for you, and send their Tax Dollars (7.8 billion over 5 years) and jsut this week, another 180k dollars, while the American people, who that money came from and belongs too, desperately need that money just to have a hot meal. With winter coming quickly, they dont care if your children freeze to death. The Politicians are committing a form of Genocide on the American people. WAKE UP PEOPLE.

  36. Why isnt it possible to start recalling all of the politicians, on a NO CONFIDENCE VOTE ?? Even before the elections.
They are killing America. It is time for the New American Patriots to arm themselves and be prepared to die for the country the love, just as they did in the 1770's, they wanted thier Right to live Free, to NOT BE TAXED EXCESSIVELY, To NOT HAVE THEIR HOMES INTRUDED UPON FOR NO REASON. The Queen back then offered NO SUPPORT for the people then, just like this Govt is offering No support for us now..they are just gimme gimme gimme , and then send Billions of dollars to foreigners who will NEVER pay into the Tax Base. 7.8 Billion over 5 yerars to Pakistan, another 180k just this week to Pakistan, but s Americans get NOTHING !!!
Vote Independant or dont vote at all. If anyone Votes for any Republican or Democrat, Do be whining about how bad you are suffering, by Voting for either party, you just basically stabbed yourself in the back. so Dont Be A Fool Any Longer. No Votes for any Dem or Repub. If you do vote for either party, do yourself and the rest of us a favor, go end your existance because you will just be a Traitor like the politicians are.

  37. How is this idea. Let's not focus on tier 5 as a deficit issue. Let's use the stimulus money already budgeted. How about we go after the billions of other things we spend on rather then telling unemployed we have no money. Fact is we rather give to foreign countries then help us Americans. Enough of this political BS. We are spending a trillion in the budget. It is a matter of do Americans in need come first before sending the money to other countries over helping us. When will congress understand we don't have enough money to save the world and Americans in need have to come first. Argue over how do we pay for help to other countries not unemployed who need tier 5. I feel like Congress are all traitors stealing our money and giving it to other countries when we need it here. Dem's use the stimulus. Republicans that is your argument against tier 5 pay for it with already budgeted money. Stop the games Congress and stop ignoring your country in favor of others. Unemployment extension, properly financed would be a huge boost to the American economy. Use the stimulus and ask how to finance billions we send to other countries not more unemployment. We are not stupid we see the billions being spent and congress is not asking how we pay for that.

This is not a democracy but an auction to the highest bidder just like on Wall Street. I am sorry to all the Americans hurting, I am one. Its time to overthrow this system that doesn't work for us. Corporations are slowly taking over.

Another sad sad aspect to the way the CEO's think and why they should just be dragged from their plush offices and tossed under a bridge.
Harley Davidson Motorcycles. An American Company, a Milwaulkee Tradition and way of Life for thousands of families,of over 100 years, the big, smart VEO's are planning on laying off 1-2 thousand people and moce the manufactoring aspect of the company to some other state.Hundreds/thousands of Families have helped Build up HARLEY to where it is today, not the CEO's, but the CEO's are saying screw you people, thanks for making us rich, but we are going to devastate your lives and abandon you, even tho we know you have been very loyal to the Company, but we are too smart to have to care about you and your pension, we dont care that your kids will suffer because we want to make more money going elsewhere....The Big shots at Harley need to go. Get Real or get Gone...you cant spend your money when you are burning in Hell
