Dream Act 2010 Debate Begins Tomorrow

Dream Act 2010 debate begins tomorrow. The Dream Act would allow illegal immigrants who came to the United States to become legal citizens if certain stipulations are met. First off, they must have came to the US before their 16th birthday. Second, they have to agree to either getting a college degree or serving in the military.

This is a highly controversial measure. Many don't want to legalize illegal immigrants, and want to tighten immigration reforms. The Dream Act would add another loophole to an already lacking system.

On the other hand, the Dream Act 2010 would fix a "social injustice" by allowing people who aren't really American and aren't really their native heritage become American. This side of the argument claims that it's only the lack of a "piece of paper" that makes these particular illegal immigrants illegal.

The measure is expected to be brought to vote as early as tomorrow. This is a highly controversial bill, and one that some argue is detrimental to the country. What are your thoughts on the 2010 Dream act?

  2. NO TO THE DREAM ACT! We already have a process to gain citizenship so we do not need to reward illegals. This is an insult to those who follow the rules and apply the legal way. Deport those who are in violation of our immigration laws.

  6. it should be passed. most of these students have been here since they were toddlers. this is all they know. this is their home. they should be able to get an education and belong to where they consider their home.

  8. #1-you cannot under any circumstances punish someone for something that they themselves CANNOT control.
#2 Yes they were not born here but most of them were brought to this country as children!!!!
#3-They have been raised in this country
#4-It is an insult to deny someone the right to higher education simply because they were born in the wrong country

  9. yes because you Americans come to our country and get legalized. I pay my taxes and I've been in the U.S.A. since I was 7 so I had to go cause I was a minor and I had to do what my parents wanted. There are no laws to get legalized which is why I'm not legal. How would allowing the dream act not be following the rules? We'd still have to pay for lawyer and taxes for court and for our documents. I went to the US with a visa and the reason why I am not legal is because of 9/11. They closed all laws to get legalized. Americans come to our country don't pay taxes steal money and we can;t go there and get legalized when we do everything right???? I hate it how you guys think you own the world.

  11. If the dream acc were to pass. It would be a great thing! There are so many people that all they want to do is work and go to school to get an education and make their families proud! Please pass the dream act! The out come would be thankful and hard working people!

  12. One thing I don't understand is how people can state that "illegal" imigrants come to this country and do not contribute to paying taxes. They must pay taxes like any other person does. The difference is that at the end of the year, a "legal" person claims their taxes and gets money back, compared to an "illegal" who gets nothing but the satisfaction of work well done.

  13. The dream act should be passed. the children that immigrate here dont have a choice. they are treated the same as american children, they do the same amount of work or even more to just graduate from high school. they deserve the right for a higher education

  14. Yes the dream act approved!
People have no right to deny us the opportunity to be successful.

  15. the dream act should be passed!
Everyone in this country is a descendant of an immigrant.
My sister graduated with a 4.61 GPA in high school and received scholarships from many universities but couldn't go to any because she wasn't legal.
This would definently help her in the future and not have to worry about deportation anymore.

  20. I was brought to the United States at the age of five by my parents. I am now 18 and there is no way that I can become a legal citizen, with the exception of marrying. I want to go to go to college, and attend flight school. Without the DREAM act I am stuck between either going back to Mexico, a country where I only lived five years of my childhood, or get a job that's going to get me nowhere. I broke no laws, I am not a criminal and I deserve a chance of higher education just like any other American.

  21. F*ck you Mayra.
:) & whoever is against passing the DREAM ACT

  22. YES for the Dream Act! Those who attack or create this negative cloud and for the most part has a lot to do with ignorance or just the lack of education. I am a student and inventor. I run my own corporation and pay taxes.. YES I PAY TAXES!.. But, I need this ACT to Pass. I grew up here. If im a criminal stealing jobs when in fact I have had to find ways of creating work; It is not our fault many of our parents were lied to and now we are stuck not able to move forward. If you cant focus on the fact that this would actually stimulate the economic growth. Just think before you speak.. YES for DREAM ACT.

  23. A college degree allows a job seeker the opportunity to get a career with a higher salary, more money equal more taxes. Also I don't think a individual who takes advantage of the Dream act may he/she be Asian, Canadian, Latino, European even Australian just a few examples should not be denied the opportunity to serve this country and be repaid with a great career options and citizenship. What is to be an American? what makes us the judges of those individuals who will take advantage and go to college and contribute to their communities. if any current citizens have issues people going to college then go to college its a nice experience and you may love it and understand what the Dream act is about.

  24. Yes to the drem act us wen we were little we didn't have the choice to come here its not our fault its unfair that us knowing everything that citizens do we can't have the same rights this would help us a lot plus we all we want its to have rights like citizens do and not be left of just because we weren't born here.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Why not just allow anyone who comes here be a citizen and have all the rights that citizenship conveys? Can I go to school in another country and make their citizens pay for me? Even if I came there without a passport and without registering I can just go anywhere in the world that is better than here and they have to feed me and educate me and give me more rights than their working citizens get because the country can't afford to take care of its own but I can scream loudly and they have to give me benefits because I scream! Nowhere on the planet would this pass except when Democrats are losing a grip on American citizens and are looking to pass un American Laws to try to grow a new voting base.

  28. DO NOT PASS.... who is going to pay for this?? tax payers... come here legally pay your taxes and support yourself!!

  29. what gives any of us the right to think we have rights above other human beings?
why is it that there are people who were born in the US, like myself, who feel they have a right to be US citizens and others don't?
It's very interesting to me that individuals have no control over being born in a certain country and yet those same individuals think they can define rights based on the privilege they were born into.
DREAM ACT, sounds like a plan to me.

  32. most people think that ALL illegal citizens are the same. they say that they are lazy, they're criminals, lots of things. I'm illegal but in my heart i consider myself an American because i grew up in this country. I'm one of those students who likes school and actually goes to school for a reason to get a better future. so YES to the DREAM ACT.

  33. WE ARE NOT CRIMINALS!!!! I KNOW WE CAN EVEN PLAY A BETTER ROLE THAN MANY OF CITIZENS!!!!! (BUNCH OF THEM DONT EVEN REALIZE WHAT THEY HAVE BY NOT EVEN CHOOSING TO GO TO SCHOOL AND INSTEAD THEY BECOME GANG MEMBERS/ALCOHOLICS/DRUG ADDICTS/ HOBOS/ ETC!) WHY NOT GIVING AN ILLEGAL ALIEN A CHANCE?! WTF

    ReplyDelete
  34. Yes to THE DREAM ACT only 60 more votes.. the only thing they want is to get a better life.. by accomplishing their goals. Its not their fault that they came to this county by their parents. At that time the only thing that their parents were thinking was a better life for their kids.. God bless the people that don't have hearts and don't realize that this act is really helpful. Dream Act!!!

  35. Yes to The Dream Act, there are rules they must agree upon and lets face it most American are scared to even consider enlisting on their own free will. I know there are many out there that are willing to enlist and die for this country even though Americans could cares less about them so yeah pass it so they can fight for this Country and gain more respect.

  36. I think this is a good idea. While nothing is perfect, this is a start for children who played no part in acting against the law like their parents did. Give them an option. Give them a chance to "right the wrong" their parents did by acting illegally. They will obviously have to work hard by either going to school or serving in the military.

  37. I paid taxes every year for the last ten, and ia get nothing back so far, so , a think I already pai the scolarchip of one of this guys, and like me there are many more illegal workers, we dont need to be begging for money, we work harder than many citizents
