FINALLY: Unemployment Extension 2010 - Almost Available, but No Tier 5 for 99ers

The unemployment extension 2010 is available, but still no tier 5 for the 99ers in sight. However, it's a good thing that the bipartisan agreement for an extension of both unemployment benefits and tax cuts is going to be passed as early as this week.

Still yet, it's vital to pass the extension, and the proposal will add an unbelievable 13 months to the amount of time the benefits are available. However, the move doesn't actually add time to the availability of benefits. That being said, 99 weeks is a lot better than 26 weeks.

The Democrats aren't very happy with Obama, mainly because the passage of the unemployment extension makes him required to break a campaign promise of raising taxes on wealthy Americans...

However, if it takes extending the Bush tax cuts to extend unemployment, that's a small price to pay.

However, there's no tier 5 for the 99ers in sight. However, it appears as if there's promise of an unemployment extension 2010 soon.

  2. Too late to save the Christmas season for the families and retailers affected. Hopefully Congress will get off their over feed asses and show some compassion for the more who are destined for homeless shelters or the street.

I postulated this before: What says we take a few congressmen (or women)take all their valuables and all their assets, while leaving their bills and let them decide on how they can remain in the house they love, pay the utilities and put food on the table.

MAKE THEM WORK THE SYSTEM, WITHOUT FILM CREWS AND AIDES. NOT UNLIKE THE MEL BROOKS MOVIE, "LIFE STINKS" (COINCIDENCE I AM SURE)

    Then ask for a vote.

  3. I sincerely hope that they fillabuster this ridiculas raping of the people of this country put together by this idiot obama. Since the tax cuts for the wealthy only pertain to 2% of the population then by holding the middleclass tax cut hostage the Republican party is actually holding hostage 98% of their own party hostage . Due to this the Republicans will fold. Also there is no provision in this deal for the 10 million 99er's who have been suffering the most in this distruction of america

    Sincerely

  4. When people lose interest or ability to take care of themselves do they really still have the same rights as those who do. It would seem that if a person is fed, sheltered and clothed by the government they have become a ward of the state and no longer a person of majority. These are issues that need to be discussed.

Even if you took an $8.00 an hour job, it's better than zero dollars an hour for who knows how long.

Welcome to reality, you will get paid what you're worth and if you can't get a job that pays... think about why

  24. To all of you better then everyone jerks. Maybe where you live jobs are easy to come by. I have been looking for two years, I have had seven call backs with no return calls. Sent more resumes than I can count. Believe me I need a job for health insurance reasons. Believe me, sitting at home on a less than half of what I made makes me feel worthy. Keep running your mouth because you could be the next one standing in line. No one and I mean no ones job is promised to them. When houses start going into foreclosure again and small business need to shut their doors I really hope that you are one of the people that is employed by them and then you can feel what it is like.

  25. I've been out of work for over 2 years and I'm on of those 99ers. I have never collected unemployment before and have worked for 40 years. I've sent resumes' and apps. everyday. I've applied for jobs that pay as low as $8 an hour.

  27. WOW....well, we must remember that there are A TON more unemployed out there that this WILL HELP. Like most Americans thinking about themselves, though unfortunately as reported this looks like the 99ers are done, it does help Millions of other Americans (like those about to exhaust their INITIAL 26, or first 3 tiers). Sadly, the political world in the USA does not completely revolve around the 99ers, as they believe it should. I hope that there is a tier 5...if it does pass though, will the 119ers be back with all this internet blog spew stating how the govt doesnt care, b/c if they did, they would add a tier 6 or it will be a terrible Valentines day for Millions. Again, I hope all including the 99ers get help, but there must be some sense to all this madness.

    ReplyDelete
  28. well we didnt cause all this madness now did we!!! wall street and good ol George DUBYA did!!! BUT HEY IN THE END IT WONT BE JUST US CURRENT 99ER'S IT WILL BE YOU ALL ALSO!! LOOK ME UP WHEN YOU GET HERE, I'LL SHARE MY CAMP FIRE WITH YOU AND I WON'T EVEN RUB IT IN!!

  30. Well as I see it we are in trouble if we are not recognized. I have worked 18 years straight unlike a construction worker that works 6 on and 6 off. Instead of us all fighting we should remember we are fellow Americans working or not. If the 99 ers are struggling atleast compliment that they are trying to find work. I must warn working individuals that its a lose lose for all if there isnt any demand in the economy. Everything from cars to houses will be repoed driving up loan prices and dragging down home values. Not to mention if people have no money for internet, phones,or even reliable transportation when jobs open up they wont be able to get one. Please everyone fight together to restore America not self destruct.

  31. I have been reading these comments posted, and quite frankly, it's appauling what people in this country have to say. I have a job, the same one as a matter of fact for 21 years now. I have never been laid off and hope I never am. There are always going to be givers and takers, even when the unemployment rate isn't so high. Don't assume everyone unemployed is a low life; tomorrow could be your last day of work, then what would you do if you couldn't find a job to support your family?

    ReplyDelete
  33. For the moron that stated that Americans are lazy and that we are seeking government money "not that it is precisely from the government", but rather managed by the sate. Right now there is 4.6-to-1 ratio means that for every 46 unemployed workers, there are only 10 available job openings. I'm very sure that you consider yourself "crème de la crème" with your firing and hiring job and gives you the right to speak about what you don't understand, thanks God you're not part of those assholes in Congress--Merry Christmas!!

  38. Hello my name is Russell Jones and I have not had a job since 9/08. I worked at my last job for 9 years and the company closed their doors. Because of this I was granted the opportunity to go to college and get an education, I graduate in one more semester. Over the course of the last 2 years I have submitted countless applications and had many interviews, to no avail. I recently found that I might be able to work at the college, and hopefully will start soon. At first it will be 15 hours or less a week and $7.25 an hour. I consider myself fortunate for this opportunity even though it will be less than what unemployment pays. I feel this way because I have been out there for the last 2 years trying to get a job and know how difficult it is right now. So to you people who want to hate on people like myself I would suggest that you take a minute and consider, maybe just because it does not make sense to you does not mean that it isn't true. I stated my name in this because I don't feel that I have anything to hide, therefore there is no need to be anonymous.

  39. Once again working together instead of carrying resentment between working class and unemployed will prevail. I believe because not everyone is working there will always be issues. For the working class congratulations on being employed. Maybe time spent helping would jumpstart our economy quicker. For instance posting a your name and an available job from your state when you type here. For the unemployed please dont fight back and bicker because you are enduring more stress. Venting is one thing bickering carries through your day and doesnt enable you to focus. Personally i worked 17 out of 17 years never married.9 years ago i took custody of 2 nephews which today i have difficulty providing for so I feel the pain you feel for sure.

  40. Try being 59 years old and after being with a compay for 28 years. Nobody wants you at that age. I've tried for 2 years to get a job and the best I could get was $8 per hour 15 hours per week. No more unemployment I'm a 99er. Try to live on that income. I've worked for 43 years and never gotten anything from the goverment only put in to help give it to the world and not take care of our own. We 99ers are not lazy. Talk about lazy why does welfare NEVER end talk about lazy lets get those people that have been on welfare for Years out there working and paying taxes as I have for the last 43 years. If they started working(HA HA) us 99ers may be able to get a tier 5 talk about LAZY they know how to work the system.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I've been out of work for just about 2 years now and I'm one of those 99ers. I have never collected unemployment before and have worked for 30 years. I've sent resumes' and apps. everyday. I've applied for jobs that pay as low as $8 an hour. (FAR CRY FROM THE 30 AN HOUR I WAS MAKING, BUT HEY AT SOME POINT YOU NEED TO DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO TO) and the reply I getis that I'm OVER QUALIFIED. Then there are the companies that don't even give you the courtesy of calling you or letting you know they received your resume. I was so deperate that I even used some of what was left of my savings to go back to school, and became certified in a new field, but now they tell me I'm not experienced enough, so SOL either way...
JUST KEEP IN MIND EVERYONE NO MATTER WHERE YOU WORK OR WHAT YOUR JOB YOUR ONLY ONE PAY CHECK AWAY FROM WALKING IN MY SHOES!!!! SO DON'T YOU DARE CALL ME LAZY, BECAUSE I'M ANYTHING BUT LAZY!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Well i can say i envy you for working 28 yrs at the same job. I have been looking for employment also and its tough i agree. Instead of me bickering with the working class i wrote to the White House concerning older Americans being squeezed. I proposed an idea of letting people retire early (voluntarily) ofcourse. Hopefully there are enough funds to do this. This would in turn get people out of the workforce and just graduating ones in.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I was laid off the end of 2008 "due to these uncertain economic times". I was one of the oldest workers and had longevity. I am quite sure my company crunched the numbers and I drew the short straw. I have been constantly looking for employment since then to no avail. I am a qualified and experienced worker, however more recruitment services are asking how long you have you been unemployed. It seems that agencies and companies do not want to hire you if you have been unemployed for over 6 months. Also, it is suppose to be that age is not a discriminating factor, but I think it is. I can see this in the faces of the few interviewers that I have talked to. I do not feel that UI is a handout. It is taxed and I have to meet eligiblilty requirements. I have worked many years and to think that I cannot find a job is really scary!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Word of advice they want to know if you have been doing anything to better yourself since you have been unemployed. Any classes certifications or volunteer time helps fill that gap. Also that is a way for them to cherry pick higher education for less $$$. Do your homework on interviewing question and make your resume reflect what you did while unemployed.

    ReplyDelete
  45. What really stinks about finding a job is that, and I know this is going to sound young but I am almost 40 and the 22 year old right out of college is going to have a better chance than me at getting a job. I just watched the press conference the president did earlier today and a question was about the new bill and the recovery act bill. He said the first one had to be done because we would have a double dip recession. Although I would still vote for him again he is so far from the truth on this one. Those who have exhausted their benefits will start to lose their homes, sell everything they own, you see the trend here. It is going to be a double dip recession whether people are going to like it or not.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Not only that we will have a country that most educated people that take any job right now will leave when jobs open up. In the end the businesses will suffer a shift of retraining a whole other batch of people. In the long run budgets will be hurt for companies when this happens and ofcourse that cost will be passed onto the consumer yet again.

    ReplyDelete
  47. What extension and very soon you are going to have million of people reach 99 weeks. Why the government complicate each issue, why some people get 2 or 3 tier and other get up to 5 tiers. It should be very simple, each unemployment should have his or her 99 weeks (5 tiers) and then you give them your extension. This what I called extension. My understanding of extension is to help those millions of people and their family to survive in this economy who are very soon will have no source of income to feed themselves and their children in United State of America.

    ReplyDelete
  48. some people are a$$ holes 99 weeks and can't get a job? are you kidding me there are 7 million people out there suffering i have filled out thousands of apps and did not even get an interview. wtf.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Why should I get a job if the government is going to let me make a 3 minute phone call a week, push a few buttons and sit back and wait for my check? I didn't get a job until my 99 weeks were up ~ why should I? I didn't make the same amount of money as I do working, but I just cut down on expenses and lived just fine. If you WANT a job, you'll get one. I'm speaking from experience. I ran out of unemployment and had a great job within 2 weeks. If you say you can't find a job, you are a liar!

    ReplyDelete
  50. I'd like to know what the disability rate of filing is these days and if it coincides with the unemployment rates. If you are not able to find a job you are able to do and your unemployment runs out, will you file for disability in order to survive? I know you have to actually be disabled, but is that so hard to do?

    ReplyDelete
  51. You're an idiot. Unless you've lost a limb almost, you have to wait years to get disability. I've been waiting since Feb. of 2008 and I just got a court date of Spring 2011. At least I'll get a big fat check when they have to back pay me from the day I filed till the day I'm approved. I have 5 doctors who substantiate my disability and I'm still having to fight for it - so no, it's not easy to get.

  52. OBAMA, Let's 99ERs Crash and Burn
2011 Officially The Year Of The HOBO!
    Should You Learn The Language?

Today graffiti is prevalent on walls, residences, businesses and the infrastructure in America. A result of gangs slinging communication at each other while leaving the general public puzzled and bewildered.
But this isn't the first time that indigenous groups have used code to converse with each other. In the 1930's millions of Hobos developed their own unique system of symbols which could be found on street curbs buildings and crossroads nationwide.

The meanings of the symbols reached the vagabonds riding the rails that arrows and geometric shapes were a communication highway. Will this truly American underground dialect be called back for today's unemployed survival? When millions of unemployed patriots are kicked to the streets to be belittled, starve and disenfranchised, then a peaceful outcome is unpredictable. Add to this how many millions of
newly minted HOBOs, recently working class, believe their situation is their own fault when they know an unregulated Wall Street took them for the big ride?

Do we really want our National Guard posted and on stand bys to prevent civil unrest? Is it worth it to the GOP Tea Party millionaires at the tax cut trough, to increase costs in homeland security because of their obsessive compulsive contempt for the unemployed? Will it be worth then to America to leave the unemployed 99ERs extension in the abyss?

Artist - Country Carl Dot Com - of the 99ERS New Depression Blues Video,
Hopefully you won't have to HOBO UP!

Is there any surprise that America is in the state it's in ? We turn on one another in a heartbeat... It's truly heartbreaking... But its not surprise while everyone screams about the horrible conditions we have now I'm used to it my neighborhoods have been in this state for decades and it wasn't until poverty hit middle class that now there is a movement against poverty... While I hope they will pass a Tier 5 for us all I'm not banking my whole future on it... If it happens it happens If it doesn't it doesn't... Where I'm from we keep it moving and keep going ... My prayers are with all of you this Christmas Season because at the end of the day the people that sit in congress Don't make me or Break me...

  54. I could live without getting a tier v if the government truly believes the UE rate is only 9.8% and not closer to 20%.. We all know the truth don't we even those who call 99'ers lazy. What annoys me is the fact OBAMA gave in to the tax cut for the rich. He basically decided the government doesn't need 340 Billion in tax revenue to reduce the deficit Republicans are so concerned about. What a joke. It would have cost 30 Billion to add tier V for a year. It will cost 340 Billion to extend the tax cuts for the rich. Do the math.

  62. Hey where is this job mecca at for the 25 millon unemployed Americans? Last time I heard its 6 people to one job and now we got Burger King laying off. If I recall it was the government (GOPs) wreckless practices that lost American jobs and shiping them out overseas and giving tax insentives to do so. The people who choose government officials and wanted them in office to look out for them ended up stabbing them in the back and selling them out like judas hiscariott did my Beloved Jesus. All so they can make a buck. Some one please explane to me why would 6 million working class Americans would want to loose there homes, families and all that they have work for to sit on there asses and collect unemployment on an average of 215 dollars a week, about 816 dollors a month that's a whole 9,792. I consider myself luckier than most because I'm of the winners of the Great American Job Sweepstakes. After I lost my good job, home, cars and family after working for 28 years, in 2009 I made 62k a year now I make 18,000 but its a job and because I was one of the lucky ones I don't rub it in because I know it was hundreds of people who aplied for it. I am underemployed However I fill bad for the 99ers and all that are with out unemployment checks. I know its hell out there. The worst economic crises in American history. In these trouble times it is sad to think that it takes a terrorist attack for Americans to be there for one and another in a time of crises.

  66. This is a win, win situtation for the republicans thats for sure , first off they get the 2 year extention of the bush tax cuts for the really rich, which they will fight for again .mark my words ... and as far as the big 13 month extention, which if you have been on unemployment for any length of time now, will probably run out way before the 13 months are up. so the cost of the tax cuts far out weighs the cost of the unemployment extention. Yes Im a 99er whos burning thru my 401k and selling off all my assets to hold my home. which i owe more than its worth, the thing that really pisses me off is how this happened,, wasn't the bush tax cuts suppost to create new jobs and business to begin with, but then again, they probably did but what we missed, is that the jobs were to be created in china or mexico. This is a very bad deal for us it may seem to be a fair deal but you know as well as I do that its not........

I have been unemployed for 19 months and desperately need a 5th tier, as do millions of others, I pray our people, that we have voted in, will answer our prayers, because we desperately need it and because even though our jobs may not seen as "Important as There's, or on the same scale), we deserve it. We worked very hard to get where we were. I was in the oil and gas, which took a HUDGE hit. Please do some sole searching and do think about being on the other end of the spectrum...We DESPERATELY need a 5th tier.

  71. Here in MI, where I live, unemployment is at 12.8% & NO JOBS! Few if any seasonal ones. Winter is here with higher heating and light bills and wonder how to pay them, let alone put food on the table. The state DHS was already overwhelmed and with all the newly going on the dole, our state is in trouble. Come 2012 EVERY SENATOR AND CONGRESSMAN that is in Washington now NEEDS to be VOTED out of office! They only care about their pockets and who they line them with! 8 million 99ers should have a voice!

  72. Ive been laid off since March 2010. Ive been putting in more than 2 applications a week. Ive been looking and looking and still cant find anything. The employers are scared to hire people. They dont know what the heck is going to happen. There is no jobs out there. Im 55 and who in the hell is going to hire me? Im thankful for the extension, cause it helps put food on my table, and pay my bills. We dont do anything extra...Christmas?? what is that?? there wont be any at my house. I honestly believe that the 99ers cant find jobs. If you people who are working, be thankful you have a job. Dont be down on the ones who cant find one. It doesnt mean we are not out there looking for one. Put yourself in our shoes for once. Have you working people ever been unemployed?? You should try it at least once...Your the ass holes out there. I am beating the pavement all the time looking for a job. Im even applying for jobs that I have no experience at, just hoping they will train. No one ever gives you a call back. God Bless the unemployed, god bless everyone in this touch economy.

  73. I have been unemployed since 2007, I put in 10 applications a week due to life circumstances, and yes I have proof. I have not had an unemployment check since March. I think I can stop holding my breath for a job or assistance. The economy is way out of wack and if you ask me so is our government.

  74. You lazy ass women out there know if it comes down to it, there are always a couple of street corners in most all cities where you can work.

And you fat slobby ass men there is no excuse for you not to be doing some kind of work even if it means shoveling shit.

  75. Regarding the proposed unemployment extention, I just called Senator Patty Murray's office in Washington State. Anyone who has been getting unemployment, and this includes the 99'ners, will get the additional 13 months of benefits.

  79. To all the people out there call the 99ers lazy, you need to get your facts straight before you call us names. For every 1 job opening there are over 500 applications. So can you please tell me how we can find a job when there is so much competition and fighting.

  81. Ok now I am a young man I am only 27 years old been working legally for 9 years now. Been unemployed the last 2 years because of the auto market collapse in michigan where i am from. Now I have exhausted all my weeks of unemployment and have been looking for work for 2 years now. I am not gonna blame anyone for the collapse other then ourselves really. Yes I know our government had their hands in it but heres the simplicity of it and correct me if I am wrong. Some people in this country live way out of their means or "try too keep up with the jones's) persay. I am not saying everyone but let's be honest what percent of americans had some kind of debt before this economic collapse. Probably alot so we blame the government for the collapse but in reality it's like back in school when one person screwed it for everybody. Is not giving the 99er's an extension fair Hell No but maybe we need too go back too the old ways of bartering and thinking about your neighbor not just yourself. I don't know if it's the same everywhere but here it seems employers want workers too work 12 hrs and cut a 3rd shift which in business is good but in reality of the economic growth is totally unfair but thats what it's come too. We as americans demand too much in benefits and wage so companies just work who they have longer. its not right but what do you do. oh and my name is levi yoachum i live in battle creek mich.

  82. Kathy,

Why are you being so rude?? Telling me to go to a street corner and sell myself. You need to have some sympathy, just because you have a job.

  83. BREAKING NEWS: Congress is refusing to bring Obama Tax plan up for a vote because Democrats don't like the estate tax provision - No Tier 5!

    ReplyDelete
  84. Tier 5 would be a waste of time. If you won't accept a crappy job after 2 years - well...

  85. Get back to work ya lazy bums - mass emailing a resume doesn't count, didn't you learn anything after the 200th no response

  86. I decided to say screw IT I am a 99er but, depending on a Government which aren't going to help the 99er population even though Berndake stated that an additional TIER is needed to possibly restart our economy in the CORRECT DIRECTON. So I am thinking of starting my own business. And, try to get grants from the government to start my own business. This is the only way I think I will be ever to get money. Instead of working for a big Company. I am going to be a business myself.

  91. LOL REPUBS, DEMS SAME THING SEE HOW THEY PULLED A STUNT TO MAKE EVERYONE THINK HE HAD NO CHOICE. OBAMAS A FOOL AT LEAST HE SHOULD OF ASKED FOR TIER 5 NOT TO LOOK SO STUPID AND WEAK, HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS FOR THE RICH AND JUST A FEW TENS FOR THE POOR GREAT DEAL AND NO TIER 5 IF HE WHERE A BUSINESS MAN HE WOULD OF BEEN FIRED FOR THAT STUPID DEAL

    ReplyDelete
  92. I love the guy who is so against a tier five and is employed in human resources hiring and firing, a job that requires absolutely no, zero, nada, skills or education to possess. And you had to fire one of the employees that YOU previously hired? And before you come back and say I must be one of the unemployed....BUZZZZZ....sorry but my income is (according to the median family income for 3010 in this country) probably 2.5X higher than yours. Probably because of my education and skills. But...I realize that I could very well end up in the same situation as these good, honest people who have worked for decades and constributed into the system only to lose their jobs due to a collapse in the economy due to NO fault of their own. Face it if these same people who are currently suffering ran Wall Street, common sense instead of greed would have prevailed and we wouldn't be where we are. The sad thing is those who perpetuated the economic disaster have profitted from it at the expense of millions of hard working, honest Americans. So yeah....I support a tier 5 eventhough I do not need it even if it affected my income level, it's called being human.
