[AK] Alaska Election Results 2010 [SENATE] The Alaska Senate race won't be over for quite some time. It appears as if the candidate "write-in" has won the majority of the votes, meaning that all of the ballots must go to the state's capital to be hand counted and verified. This becomes a subjective mess, and one we can thank incumbent Senator Lisa Murkowski for. She lost the GOP nomination to Joe Miller, a Tea Party favorite who had the endorsement of Sarah Palin during the primaries.
Lisa Murkowski ran as a write-in, and showcased that the GOP isn't as united as they should be given that we are in the worst of times.
Joe Miller, had Murkowski not won, would likely be heading to Washington. However, I can't blame Murkowski for trying to keep her job.
All that being said, it has to be verified that the votes were in favor of Lisa. However do you really doubt that the majority of the votes aren't for her?

I really hope this is a sign of the times. What a great thing for a candidate to step outside the crony machine and win on her own merits. Only in Alaska? I hope not. This should be a strong signal to the RNC that they need to clean house, just like the new congress needs to do with subpoenas and investigations.

The question is, when she wins will she still caucus with the Republicans? Probably, but the GOP might have left a bad enough taste in her mouth that she votes with the Dems, like the two lady Senators from Maine.

ReplyDeleteShe will because she's talked about feeling liberated and not beholden to her party leaders since they backed Miller. Those are basically her own words from a local interview. She also admitting voting with her party at times because of an obligation and the games of politics. She also knows that she won due to votes from dems and independants and I think she'll keep that in mind. She may have been an 'insider' but she's smart, diligent , knows the issues and cares about Alaska. I'm glad she won. I'm a local if you couldn't tell. btw Palins endorsement of Miller only helped Lisa. People here know her and aren't pressed at all.

ReplyDeleteShe was appointed by her father and that made me biased against her, but she proved herself and went on to win a her seat on her own last election. She does a good job and people here know it. Don't feel sorry for us, at least we don't have Palin as govenor anymore!! Thank God for that!!
ReplyDeleteLisa Murkowski ran a clean campaign for the nomination. And lost. Miller sullied himself then and shortly thereafter. Miller ran a filthy dirty campaign!!!!! Maybe we all should think of limiting the mud and trash National candidates are allowed to throw. The choice was simple for me (52 years in Alaska). Thug or Lady. Jeff D.

I'm a combat vet who has been to Alaska on a number of occasions, no more now that you are trying to elect a loser who has done nothing for America except being put in office by her father. You cast out a warrior who defended your right to be morons. Shame on Alaska, losers!
She has no morals the the votes many assume she has received come from the same people who are not educated enough to spell her name correctly which is a Must to be counted. In the end Joe will win again as he did in the primary. She ran on a write-in for her own purpose and not for the people of Alaska
