California Prop 19 Results [CA PROPOSITION]

California Prop 19 results were somewhat disappointing.  California's proposition which would have made marijuana legal in the state of CA has FAILED.  California prop 19 faced stiff opposition not only from lawmakers, but teachers, parents, and those who thought that the bill was ill crafted.

Despite the defeat, the "Yes on Prop 19" chair has vowed that "next time" will be when the measure passes.  Until then, the bill creators would benefit from rethinking some of the provisions within the bill, and writing the bill to give the State and not municipalities control over setting the tax base for the drug.

Many say that marijuana is no more dangerous than alcohol.  The legalization of marijuana could be the "end of prohibition" of modern days.  By legalizing pot, money will stay within the US economy instead of heading down to dangerous drug cartels in Mexico and beyond.

What are your thoughts on California's prop 19 results?

  2. Wow - the youth missed their chance to voice their opinion, and pass the proposition.
Unfortunately, the $$ will continue to go south of our borders and innocent people will continue to be jailed for possesion (w/o the medical documentation) in Cali.
I have to go now - my dealer is meeting me on Crenshaw and he has the good stuff! ttyl

  3. I've been programmed to believe pot is bad. All we heard back in the 70's, 80's,and 90's were negative. But I've never heard of a person becoming violent smoking pot. They say it leads to other drug use. But I haven't had to move to the next level of high to achieve utopia. Or just veg out. I'm mixed on the legal side of this debate. I do feel however it would just about wipe out the national debt... and create jobs not only growing pot, but in the food industry....aka munchies...

  5. The only argument I have heard over this is the gateway drug argument; which as it turns out is a logical fallacy. The reason why marijuana is a gateway drug is because you have to go to a dealer to get it and the dealer is going to push his harder inventory on you. If you don't have to go to a shady person with harder drugs to get it, then the gateway is removed.

  6. I look forward to the passing of the Bill next time. It will forever prove that the far left (those in the Blue) are just as controlling as was predicted. Control over the lives and weak minds of the people of California. For now the strong are still in control.

  7. My thought are simple. Cannabis is not more harmful than alcohol and tobacco, and people smoke it anyway. So, better to regulate and tax so that the revenues go to honest, law-abiding citziens and to the state, instead than to drug dealers and narcos.

  8. I think alcohol is the real gateway drug... Most people I know, and from my own experience, experimented with the mind-altering effects of alcohol before any other substance.

  9. Its incredible that we compare marijuana use to Alcohol and Tobacco. Look at what it cost annually for the medical complications of both addictions. How about the cost to for damages to families, lives, etc. of the effects of Alcohol. "A lie wrapped in Ignorance"

  11. I am thoroughly and completely surprised that Prop 19 has fallen through. I would like to know the percentages.
I see no reason for pot to be illegal, it does much less harm to your body, brain, reflexes & memory than alcohol. I will be migrating to Cali before the next voting round, so hopefully my vote along with the one my boyfriend will place will make all the difference.

  12. 30,000 people have been murdered in Mexico since 2006 because of a drug war. It is our laws that create an illegal drug market thus giving extremely dangerous cartels billions of dollars every year. Prohibition has never worked! Is anyone else as pissed off as I am about the people who think weed is more dangerous to thier children than international drug cartels?

    ReplyDelete
  13. "Many say that marijuana is no more dangerous than alcohol."

While marijuana is still considered a class I narcotic by many, the facts still stand that no one has overdosed or otherwise died directly from the effects of the drug. While, thousands upon thousands of alcohol users die annually all over the world. Not to mention the number of deaths related to legal "drugs". Not only that but marijuana actually has medicinal properties and is used to remedy certain ailments. The prohibition on marijuana is outdated and in need of review. Please, California, represent the rest of your country well with this. Pass Proposition 19 next time around. And not only that, but once it is legal, please be a good role model and set a good example for the rest of the country to follow.

  14. I voted against Prop 19. My son fought addictions – to alcohol, marijuana, meth – for 10 years, and is finally clean. Once you're addicted to intoxicating substances, your brain doesn't make distinctions between which is which... The gateway argument is not really relevant...and as much as I understand the civil liberties argument, we can't just make addictive substances more widely available. (Have you ever seen downtown Amsterdam?)

  15. I think Americans are wisening up about the realities of pot - what we have been fed throughout our lives has simply been to keep cash in the pockets of alcohol and tobacco companies and, of course (though inadvertently) the cartels in the South.

Anyways tough break but at least you can listen to some good music: www.playthissongloud.com Enjoy.

  16. ithink its dumb they kno they can make dumb money off of legal weed and there has not been even one death caused by weed.... if alcohol is legal they weed should be legal...flatout...government needs ta get wit tha program

  17. me personlay i thank if they would have passed the law it would have made it beter for our countrey with new jobs opening for people witch would put more money in to are country plus weed dosnt make you want to go on to other drugs it a god given plant its not like were in a kitchen making it

  18. Anonymous must be smoking some weed, the spelling went to pot. Pun intended.

  19. Being a medical patient already, have to say I'm glad it failed. The prop had it's good points, but as usual the political powers had slid a couple things into that prop which would have been detrimental to patient's rights. The prop may pass next time... If the power grab can get left out!

  20. Alcohol and Tobacco kills. These are the real "gateway drugs". When a person is drunk he will do just about anything.

  21. OH NO! It's still illegal?? Hahaha, I'm high right now.

  22. California is headed down the toilet fast. Since all the studio movies are shooting elswhere, CA does not have the income it once did. Prop 19 was a chabce to turn this sate around. Think about al the jobs and income the pot industry would bring, Oh well, guess I'll just keep having to buy it from my medicinal dispencary, WHO PAYS NO STATE TAXES. Anyone who voted this down is a complete moron.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Agricultural, medicinal, and food industries would all gain greatly if marijuana were legalized. If we really want to make a difference in the economy by creating more jobs, marijuana is a great way to go. If people are really worried about what it doesn't lead to, then why are cigarettes and alcohol, both of which are far more dangerous, legal?

And lumping it into the same category as meth and other dangerous narcotics is just ridiculous. I have never heard of someone becoming violent or stealing television sets to get a hit of pot.

    ReplyDelete
  24. pot is not a gateway drug and it is not addictive despite common belief. You cant overdose either, you would probably just fall asleep. I think people need to become more educated on it and just smoke it!

  28. I KNEW this would not pass! The state of California is too afraid to buck up against the Nazi federal government!

  29. I'm not so sure proposition 19 wasn't on California ballots to appease. Even if it have been voted in favor of, I'm not sure we would know that. This government is becoming the cockroach of the world. I have to say I'm highly disappointed. While y'all starve in your multi million dollar shacks, I hope that fishy y'all saved by cutting off the water supply, ends up on your dinner table. California, keep saving those rain forests, no worries on the home front, we got your back, ;)-

  30. We voted. People were scared of what Obama and the
Federal Gov. Said a few weeks ago, even if your state legalized marijuana we are still going to arrest you and blah blah blah. He also said we're pulling troops out of iraq. Did he? So many critics against marijuana. No one is telling you to smoke. Also no one mentions the guy who was charged with manslaughter for killing the Angels pitcher for smoking too much weed. I mean drinking too much. They only remember what those Movies in the 60's said, "it's a mind altering substance. It will make teens go crazy." 40 Years ago folks. Haven't you had proof enough. You don't see mindless freaks walking the streets. It's less intoxicating than drinking alcohol. If that girl in the commercial, melting into the couch after she smoke pot realy did, where can I get ahold of some of that stuff....

  36. Somebody suggested that a lot of the voters who might have wanted 19 to pass were too busy enjoying its subject to go vote. I thought that was funny but maybe it's true???

I am really astounded, though, that it didn't pass. It's my generation, too - the "flower children" - who helped squash it. Shame on us.

The thing that people must get a grasp on is that just because something is illegal does not mean if people want it enough that they won't get it. It just means that 1) whatever it is becomes an industry of organized crime 2) we only spend money trying to squelch it which prohibition of alcohol early in the 20th century proved an exercise in futility 3) whatever it is is totally not subject to any sort of controls of what goes into it 4) otherwise innocent people can become criminals for indulging in whatever. Make it legal, take it out of organized crime, tax it, stop the "war on whatever", give it some quality control and if people abuse, treat them as "patients" rather than criminals.

    ReplyDelete
  37. NOONE EVEN KNOWS why it's really illegal in the first place. Look up a guy by the name of Harry Anslinger. He made hyped up marijuana and depicted it as "influencing degenerate races" as many minorities partook in smoking the plant in the early 20th century. This was done by a process of yellow journalism.

THIS IS NOT THE REAL REASON IT WAS MADE ILLEGAL

The real reason is that Anslinger knew of marijuana's true powers. That It could be made into hundreds of versatile forms such as cement, extremely strong rope, etc. He knew that if it was made illegal, that it would put many companies in our country out of business (this was before we even knew about marijuana seeds high content of omega 3's, and that oil made from hemp in recent days has been found to shrink tumors in cancer patients)

I know it probably seems radical to parents and teachers voting "yes" on prop 19. I don't even live in the state of California but I was all for it. Others who are against its legalization are supporting drug dealers in both North and South of United States borders, and we're all going to keep smoking that good shit anyway.

  39. How the fuck can you say that once you become addicted to a substance your brain cannot distinguish between the type of drug youre putting into your body. Of course your brain will know because different drugs produce different highs. You cannot replace a mild sedative like cannabis with a stimulant like methamphetamine, its just not the same high. WTF man, people these days dont know wtf theyre talking about...

    ReplyDelete
  40. its unbelievable that this plant is still illegal, people dont realize that marijuana not only can treat over 300 diseases, but there hasnt been one case ever that showed it causes the slightest form of cancer when using it. not to mention that it has no addiction what so ever in the plant itself. if you dont believe just search it! Bud would bring in over 2 billion dollars in tax dollars which we desperately need for our economy. not only am i disappointed in the stupidity of the parents and non believers, im disappointed that its not up for debate in the country and not only california. if weed is not legal with in the next 10 years i give up on our government and the extremist that follow, bunch of dipshits

  41. You can argue about your personal feelings on pot all day, but the bottom line is the Constitution guarantees EVERYONE's pusuit of freedom and happiness. Criminalizing drug use is un-American. This proposition should not be necessary. Un-American A-Holes like the Tea Baggers and Republicans whose entire agenda is to enforce un-Constitutional laws that punish people for not acting like "good christians" have been slowly destroying our country since around 1850 or so. This would be funny if it weren't so sad, but it's time for all the politicians to be screened for intelligence and understanding of the Constitution before they can be eligible for office. This would finally eliminate scumbags like Republicans, Tea Baggers, and 60-80% or so of the Democrats from wasting our time running for office, and those who pass the qualification screening could maybe finally set our country back on track for a change. It's also time for those citizens who haven't actually studied the Constitution or American history and politics in general to just stay home and not vote. If you are voting for a Tea Bagger this time around because your buddies or family members are voting for that Tea Bagger, then your vote is a joke because only an ignorant douchebag would actually be dumb enough to vote for a Republican or Tea Bagger considering they are owned by corrupt billionaires who use your faith to trick you into voting them into power so they can rape you financially, and only a complete retard would cast their vote along with an ignorant douchebag just because they are family or friends.

  44. i am very sadden this morning. living on the east coast the passing of this bill wouldve been like a breath of fresh air, bringing hope to the rest of us, it wouldve also meant that finally, finally people were beginning to be a little more open minded and accepting of other peoples freedoms and freewill
and to the "anonymous" that voted no cuz of her sons addiction...dont blame pot or any drugs that was your fault and failure as a parent you shouldve been more involvedin your kids life talked to him more often he probably had depression and selfesteem issues that drove him to drugs. he was never addicted to pot he was addicted to meth he just used pot to curb his craving for meth...i bet you drink at parties and occasionally like to get tipsy well alcohol is highly addictive.i hav many family members that were alcoholics drink everyday from mornin to night pass out piss on themselves wake up in their own vomit but look down on potheads what kinda b.s. is that. but hey you right wingers know everything right. the flaw of prop 19 was that it allowed people to grow their own thats where it failed. the stoners tried to be slick, "yeah make it legal go ahead tax it" but honestly if its legal to grow everybody is gonna try to grow it instead of goin somewhere to buy where they would have to pay taxes. so thats where it failed. nobody is gonna put on their w2 that they are growing so the gov. can tax them. they talked a good game but they shouldve left out the growing clause and it wouldve had a better chance...

People that cant find jobs wont need need to sell weed eliminating the small guy the sells ounces and the big guy that sells tons of Mexican Shwagg To make money.. THUS Eliminating the crimes involved with or around the the marijuana. Destroying the cartels at heart. Hurting the source!

Alcohol is absurdly unhealthy for you
but the government still trys to market it in a responsible way..

Rest in peace to all my comrades

    "Drink Responsibly" hah.

Legalize it..Could u imagine pot commericals marketing responsible Marijuana usage. yes.. easily.. i do it everyday of my life for 15 years..!! along with 95 million other people..

Get with the program people Marijuana has been used for Thousands of years medicinal uses and for peace keeping and recreation usages.

The only way the government can completely benefit or optimize the the legaliztion of pot would be to not let the average joe grow it.. so people would have to go out and buy it.

Its gonna be hard to stop people from doing that..
    Many Many more issues

Call me for Provisions to prop 19

  48. the dude that brought up the constitution, your one of the dipshits im talking about. the entire time that you were "studying" the constitution, i was studying the pros and cons of chronic, some of dat kush, etc. but the thing is that god not only put us on the planet with all these resources, he also put the marijuana plant here for a reason. thousands of species of plants have saved lives and can cure or help diseases. funny thing is that marijuana can treat more diseases than anything other plant in the world, its just ridiculous that it is still illegal. cannabis can be used for more than just medicine too, hemp is made from cannabis and the best quality material and strongest thats on the shelves. oh and not to mention to the virgin up top, marijuana was the least of colonies worries when the constitution made and no where in it does it state anything about marijuana and the only reason you have any liability in your argument is because the government did an UNCONSTITUTIONAL thing and illegalized the use of marijuana. think before you speak and sorry a high school kid knows more than you

  50. kron master i respect you for your comment and the thing is that successfully growing a chronic marijuana plant is pretty difficult. i completely agree with you that it would be hard to stop because so many people will try and grow it. but the government would still make plenty of tax dollars off purchase of legal seeds and realistically there wont be that many people growing and taking business from our government as i think you believe but i do agree with you that there will be more than likely more grow ops in the country than before but i think it will balance out for sure and work in our favor

  53. This post is a response to the lady that posted about her addict son. I have personally fought with addiction to opiates for many years an addiction that began with medications I was prescribed, I have also fought bouts with alcoholism. For you to say that the addicted mind doesn't make distinctions between intoxicating substances is ignorant and uninformed. It is quite the opposite, marijuana has saved me from other addictions. Times when I felt weak and felt like going to score some pills or heroin I would smoke marijuana and it would give me the introspective thought to make a better choice and take away some of my predisposition to acting impulsively. I actually find that marijuana helps repair the addicted mind. You should read the study they did about Concurrent cannabis use during treatment for comorbid ADHD and cocaine dependence, you would be very enlightened. Many addicts share symptoms of ADHD as well. Cannabis has been used for 1000s of years as medicine and for mental and spiritual enlightenment to group it with alcohol and meth is ridiculous.

This is a most valuable - a most sacred right - a right, which we hope and believe, is to liberate the world."
"As our case is new, we must think and act anew."
"Don't interfere with anything in the Constitution. That must be maintained, for it is the only safeguard of our liberties."
"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts"

Our government has created our poor economy. and we have people here with big addiction to pain killers. which is responsable for more deaths than murder and suicide. thats a big problem. yet they still make and sell government issue heroin (roxy/oxy). its ok to push there deadly concoction on the people, with pain clinics everywhere. Throw that crap in the toilet. It will kill you. Marijuana is not responsible for deaths. Unless you where a snitch for the cops and well, you get the picture. research it. U.S. farmers grew hemp legally for years until some Ralph Naiter type character put a stop to it. Henry Ford made car parts stronger than steel from yes hemp. also fuel can be made from oils. 66. Revolution? Civil War? A propostion to pass a drug can cause people to become so unreasonable. Its not the end of the world, both sides had there points and one won. Thats how a democracy works, and just because your opposed to the decision of the majority does not give you any reason to even think for a second that you are better than them or yell at them for being "uneducated" or "stupid".Stop freaking out people on both sides! Its not like the world is going to end because of one law. They will try again and if they do then the people can vote again and we will see if anything has changed, if not too bad, if so too bad there is two sides to every coin. This is the true problem with America irrational people who put the most explanation points in their comments, scream the loudest, and use big scary words get heard.

  67. Though it was a let down, I think the point was made. The time has come for change.

Also, I can't believe the way so many people think that Obama "destroyed" the country in the two years he has had. How can they forget George Bush so quickly? By far the most dangerous and fiscally irresponsible president this country has ever had. He sold his soul to the devil and committed to two unnecessary wars which we are still drowning in dept from! Wake up - the Republicans are fake and represent corporate interests.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Write a better bill and we'll vote for it. This one was vague and scary. While confining personal growers to a tiny space, it left it completely wide open for a corporate takeover. If the Feds hadn't opposed, and it passed, no one would like what would happen to our weed.

Thank God we didn't pass it! If it had, Feds would have raided Cali and not only destroyed the legal system, but the medical as well.

Pay attention Californians! The medical system you have is sweet!!! For the price of a doctors recommendation you can grow, smoke, transport and trade your excess for fair market value (cash) - legally, and un-harassed by even the Federal government.

And think about all your arguments. Yes pot is not the same as alcohol. It's kind of like a medicine, right? Makes you feel good, helps you sleep, helps you eat, helps the sick... right? Why don't we put our campaign money and effort into getting the whole country to go medical before we start trying to redefine it?

Prop 19 was a thinly disguised platform for corporate interest to take over (did you think that personal growers only able to sell an ounce at a time were going to generate the tax money to get California out of debt? Really??).

The bill failed because enough people are intelligent and actually READ the thing...

    ReplyDelete
  69. Oh Charley! There is a lot more to this than what you are saying. Do you think it was just a coincidence that only days before the vote the Federal government announced that they would aggressively enforce federal marijuana laws regardless of how the vote turned out? Our government used threats to sway voters who did not want to end up in a show down with the feds over their rights. Is this the way our government is supposed to operate? I don't think so!

  70. @ 11:24am. People who are still afraid of marijuana are uninformed idiots! Any serious studying or paying attention to the issue of legalization will show you that the current state of affairs is ridiculous! Those of us in favor of legalizing just get very tired of having to fight this battle over and over while those who misinform people about marijuana use tax dollars to do so!

  71. And yes, when our government states that they will ignore the will of the voters using resources taken from the voters (through taxation), then it is time to rise up against that government!

  72. I smoked pot for years and I voted no on prop19. The last thing we need is to have the big corporations stealing the cash crop of CA from the little guys. I bet most of the "Farmers" in Mendo and Humboldt are pretty happy with the turnout of the vote, it secures their crop for a few more years. If I had faith the government would manage the taxation and licensing of marijuana responsibly, I may have voted yes. How about DOPE FOR HOPE? Give tax money to the schools and I would have voted yes. Stealing the market from the little guys to put it in the hands of RJ Reynolds and the like won't get my vote. BTW, the pot market is currently saturated. Check in with the growers up N, they will tell you their crop was not moving so quickly last year. I know a bit about the "scene" up N, and the Mexican drug lords are simply not making a big showing. Relax pot heads, come Jan having up to an ounce of pot is a missdameanor offense. Get a 215 for crying out loud. Dang, you can legally grow 99 plants in Santa Cruz, that should keep you stoned long enough and put some cash in your pocket too! Cheer up:)

  73. why not try to fix what is broken. How would America be improved by a civil war? Thats why our founding fathers gave us the people the right to vote at a time when kings ruled. You want change? Vote for someone else. There is no need to, in a modern democracy, to let things come to violence. If the Rebulicans and Democrats refuse to change the way Washington is ran (to your liking)then why do people keep voting for them? Vote third party. Thats far better then rising up and fighting each other.

  74. Yeah let the government have control. they will have us smokin some bullsh** like paraquat. the poison they inflicted on Americans years ago. sounds like terrorism right.poison your own people. thats what gov duz.research paraquat educate yourself on how our own governmet treats us. look at people incarcerated for pot crimes. let them out. keep the robbers, murderers, and rapist. Or would you rather a meth head for a neighbor. A pot head doesnt steel from his neighbor. He shares with his neighbor. and paranoia is from the fear of being arrested. not the effects of Marijauna. so due research on pot history you will be suprised at all the good things that can be accomplished. stopping money flow to cartel in mexico would be a good step for homeland security. And people of america don`t want money wasted on fighting pot. We want meth, cocaine, and heroin stopped. War on drugs, should not waste money on fighting beneficial herbs. vote on that!

  75. I don't even care about smoking pot. But CA needs the money. People who want to smoke pot are going smoke it whether its illegal or not. Just not we don't get to benefit from the tax revenues its generates at the wholesale level. As long as the retail dispensaries are paying their taxes, not much should change but when you think about 60-80% of those people pay cash, how much is being claimed?

  76. both parties are tarnished n the third party hardly ever gets the finacial backing to make it to the polls...
as far as medical use im all 4 it but if you get a 215 n you dont have a legitimate medical reason 4 using it, it doesnt make it any better. i shouldnt have to lie hide or cheat 2 smoke my joint. the pot smokers who are taking advantge n misusing the medical marijuana bill should really take a long look at themselves n ask if what theyre doing is right or beneficial in anyway what so ever specially for those who actually feel that it should be legalized in definite...

  80. Has anyone ever asked why THIS plant is illegal? Over 25,000 different uses is why, enough legitimate uses to derail every corporate entity that exists today. How is it that the greatest country in the world ignores truth, values ignorance and is steadily going down the tubes......$13 trillion debt out of a $14 trillion economy.......and the the only thing that they will rise up and really fight against is a "plant" that has so many benefits that could turn things around and benefit EVERYONE......not just some of the people, but the WORLD as a whole. Depopulation is in progress because of "limited resources". With this one plant exists UNLIMITED RESOURCES, everything from food and nutrition, construction, textiles, fuel, medicine, everything that MANKIND needs can be derived from this one plant, yet it is continually vilified and demonized as THE EVIL WEED!!!! This country is sliding into the abyss while the drunkards continuously howl about the "evils" of this plant. These people don't have a clue! Yet they are your leaders.....the ones that know what is best for you and this country! Whatever happened to common sense America? It gave way to political correctness and look at where this country is now.....a ship without a rudder trying to find a port. You go from one group of elected officials to the other hoping that they will do the right thing (democrats, republicans, democrats, republicans) and nothing positive ever comes from it except for the special interest groups being the ones that benefit.......and they work for the corporate hierarchy, not you.... the citizens whom this system was established for in the beginning. This plant has over 25,000 different uses, it threatens every corrupt, polluting corporate entity that exists today, especially big pharma, and that is why it is illegal and this is the information that needs to be made known to the public, not the silly, inane diatribes that continuously sprout up against this miraculous plant. Mankind cannot outdo nature, there is no substitute for the natural. I myself have seen too many people die from the negative effects that alcohol and prescription drugs have caused. If anything should be illegal it should be the two aforementioned things, not this miraculous plant! Educate yourselves people, time to stop being stupid!!! Look at ALL the negativeness that has resulted from the way things have been done doing business as usual, and if the current state of affairs is allowed to continue, there will be no RECOVERY!!! This plant needs to be LEGALIZED and mankind should be allowed to derive the benefits that it offers! Thank you for reading this posting!

  82. It seems silly to me that people who are against legalizing because they think the drug is bad for our communities, don't want to try to receive benefits from it. If you are against pot heads, and you voted against this bill, then i think that you are stupid. Do you really think this will prevent people from using it medicinally or recreationally? It wont. Basically, you are denying yourself some benefits from something that you dislike because you think that you can stop it. Pot will continue to grow and so will this movement.

  83. I think that most of the stoners in CA didn't vote for this bill because they like the way things are.. They do not want to start paying taxes on something that they can already purchase freely from their neighbor around the corner. It was not because they were all too lazy, some of you are sadly misinformed people.
