DREAM Act 2010

DREAM Act 2010 - The Lame Duck session is bringing up discussions about the DREAM Act, which would bring millions of illegal immigrants citizenship to the United States. The DREAM Act 2010 allows illegal immigrants who came to the US as children to seek citizenship in the US through getting a college degree or serving two years in the military.

The path to citizenship would be conditional, and would take six years. The basis behind the bill is that it will fix a "social injustice" of people who have been raised in the country, but are not from here- but in essence really have no where to call home.

Opponents of the bill claim that adding citizenship at a time like this would further burden our social services system. Supporters claim that it's "The right thing to do" and that the educated citizens will help America grow and flourish.

The DREAM Act 2010 would also create another loophole to be exploited with those with bad intentions. However, in order to qualify for citizen ship under this provision, you would have to be in the United States for five years.

DREAM Act Destined for Passage?

The DREAM Act destined for passage? As part of a defense spending bill which was turned down in the Senate, legislators tried to pass the Dream Act. This would bring a method for illegal immigrant students and military officials to become US Citizens once and for all.

The DREAM act would allow citizenship to children of illegal immigrants who go to college or serve in the military. This is supposedly legislation that would fix an injustice, as those who qualify for the DREAM act were not illegal immigrants by choice.

These include students who have been in the US for more than 5 years. They can complete 2 years of college or 2 years of military service to become citizens.

The whole concept of the Dream Act is controversial. Anything that deals with immigration brings forth a lot of dialogue between the parties in the government.
