2010 Unemployment Extension Benefits and Standalone Discussions

The 2010 unemployment extension could be passed as a standalone measure.  The American Jobs and Closing Tax Loopholes Act of 2010 was voted down twice in the Senate, leaving many people wondering what is next in the world of unemployment.

The unemployment extension bill would keep the tiers 1-4 of emergency benefits in place for the over one million Americans who have exhausted their state benefits.  The first two tiers are available for all workers, with the final two available for those in the states hardest hit by the economy.

Some are calling for a standalone bill that would pass unemployment benefits without all the other provisions, such as the doc fix, COBRA reimbursement, and more.  Politicians all agree that something must be done to help the unemployed, but cannot agree on how to fund the measure.

If you pass the bill as a standalone measure, then the true cost will be more apparent to the country.  Adding tax or using stimulus money may become more agreeable if all of the money can be seen going to Americans, and not lumped together with a bunch of other initiatives.

Whether or not the unemployment extension measure will pass in the Senate as a standalone measure has yet to be seen. Something needs to be done to help the 900,000 and growing number of unemployed workers in America.

The Extenders bill failed 57-42 in the Senate, with no Republicans voting for the measure.  At least one would have voted for the bill in order for it to pass.

  1. ok folks listen, McConnell shot it doun last week as unaminious consent, a stand alone, he objected it stoped. IF Ried brings it to the floor as simpley a stand alone bill then we dont need any unanimous consent. we only need 60 votes. McConnell cannot block it by objecting. i will be amazed if it happens

  2. I feel so sad for those on unemployment right now! I cannot believe this is happening. Senate gets to take a summer vacation while many Americans cant even feed their families! That is obscene in my opinion!! I sure hope they do something soon!! My prayers are with all unemployed and their families through this hard time!!

  4. my husband is another one that got screwed over and would also like to pay the senator's a visit. They can fork over $300 for our rent due in a week or $75 for our water bill or an electric bill that are due and thanks to him not getting his UI the past 2 weeks, we have no idea where we can get the money to pay for this. Right now they are at home in there mansions eating steak dinners while we stress over hot to get bills paid. submitted over 40 applications last week for ANY JOB and as usual no concat. he is a former marine and has 10 years in plumbing sales experience and NO JOBS IN GEORGIA. these senators are heartless. pass the bleeping standable bill now. BEFORE they go on ANOTHER vacation for a week during july 4th.

  5. Do the senators not realize it is only going to hurt the economy MORE by not passing this bill. We will see more foreclosures, more businesses going bancrupt etc. This is not the answer. Us americans need help, there are not a lot of jobs out there!

  6. Agreed, I have never been more disgusted by our political system and wonder how they sleep at night. When they enjoy a long 4th of July weekend on yachts, estates, etc over 1 million of their constituents will desperately try to figure out how to pay rent, mortgages, and put food on the table. I too am among the many who got the carpet pulled out from under me due to the blatant disregard of these self-serving jerks.

  8. how do they expect us to survive? senates and the president believe on helping the world with epidemics but what about us here in America? Is this really happening? Going on four weeks with no money and trying to make it through the days and nights with my child. We're living in poverty while all the big kahunas are able to sleep at night. Now... what if the tables were turned and they were in need of assistance? No one would think twice, but they would just act in knowing what will and could happen, but not for the middle class citizens that work hard for everything they possess.
Riots are going to form, protestors are going to be more verbal and outspoken, can the senate take the heat?

  10. The 75 people that got laid off that make Mack Trucks just started back to work after a two year layoff. Just seen the story on NBC Nightly news. So listen up congress it took 2 years for these people to get there jobs back 2 years. Not 26 weeks.

  11. The senators are idiots. They have never been out of work or without a dollar in their pockets. They need to pass our federal extension and give us our money. Which by he way we pay taxes on that money.

  12. I thank God we have the Republicans that can see the danger of budget deficits. The Democrats will only bankrupt this nation by keeping everyone on unemployment and in poverty.

  13. Yes they do have there millions I was watching a documentary called House of Cards and even Greenspan said they good not be stopped because it was greed. Wall Street new they were selling bad loans to people but they was making 500 million a month so who cared even a guy that was doing legit mortgages had to get in the subprime business to stay going because if he did not do it other would. I am tired of people blaming the people that bought the houses when you had uneducated loan orginators that were pizza boys and car salesmen Orginating loans they had no experince so how in the world could you ask them any question. When I bought my house I did not find out what kind of loan I had to I got to the table and I had no choice because I sold my other house and was living in a hotel until my house was finished because they were slow. 40 days to be exact so if I wanted somewhere to live I had to take the deal. And the same realtor that sold my house was the realtor for the new house. They were criminals and nobody is pressing charges on wall street and the mortgage people for doing this to the global economy. Greed took over that documentary is really good.

  19. Stop blaming Democrats you idiots might vote Republicans in the white house. If they were in there right now we would be in worst shape than we are now in soup lines. The stuff that Obama did to help the economy they said NO too. So if they were in the whitehouse then what will happen. Republicans don't care 8 years of Bush did not give you a clue than you have problems. The stock market went back up since Obama the main banks did not crash since Obama somebody is trying to put rules in for credit card companies and mortgage companies for now I figure when the Republicans get back in the Whitehouse we will be doing subprime mortgages all over again. No other country trust us after that and they don't want to buy our mortgages anymore so who are they going to sell them too. Now you buy a house you might just keep the same mortgage company forever. I don't blame them it was criminal what wall street did and nobody is going to jail for it. Our credit sucks to other countries we be lucky to export anything out of the United States.

A stand alone bill must be passed or the president must use his so called executive powers to extend these benefits to the familys who need them. stop being demecrats and republicans and start being humans. to the poster who praised the republicans for blocking the measure, can't wait til you lose your job and need the help.

So right now nobody is getting anything except the people on their first 26 weeks.

  28. My husband's benefits are set to expire soon. Without an extension, we will be in huge trouble. That said, have you read all of the garbage attached to this bill? The media is portraying the GOP as a bunch of heartless bad guys attacking the poor unemployed Americans without talking about the entirety of the bill. If extending unemployment was the only thing on the bill, I am certain it would have passed. However, there were tax cuts on capital gains, tax cuts for business, Satellite TV licensing, and so much more you can't even believe!

  30. I am "so glad" all those AIG people, and Bankers and Wall Street and the automakers all got their money on time, because they made a mess of the whole country, they made money in the process, and then they got more money from the Government of which probably a small fraction will be paid. God bless them who can afford "lobbying" in Congress and screw everyone else. We can wait patiently at home, patiently unemployed that is, until the next polititian knocks our door promising "change", and a "new America", a new era, this time "for the People"!!! My friends, it's all about money, to get elected you need money, and to stay in power you need money, thus polititians respond to money! God may have mercy on us, unemployed workers. We might as well become entrepreneurs and screw everyone else. "If you can't against them, join them!" --By the way, does anybody know why we are spending billions in Afghanistan? If we wanted to secure oil, why didn't we use the money buying oil for once! The more we mess in the area, the more those people hate the US. It can only get worse. Those people have been fighting for centuries!

  31. They need to pass the extension next week! I'm only a 26er. Who the hell can find a job when there are none in 26 weeks. They automatically should allow 26er's to advance to Tier 1 and 2 with no extension deadline. I don't want to have to look forward to being in the same boat I'm in now the first week of Nov. And like it or not they are going to have to include the 99er's in the next extension!

Americans are hurting and you need to vote in a tier v and extend all the levels so we can at least survive for now. Even the wall street guy said it started after the world trade center. Forward to 2004 I somethings on my credit and money from the sale of my other house and they did not ask me to payoff one bill before I could buy that house. I seen the difference.

Every holiday this year has been spoiled by them procrastinating until after the holiday to let us know if our unemployment has ended. I still plan to go back to work, but I am tired of being held hostage by an uncaring government. One young woman I know has already moved back in with her mother. She applied for food stamps - even with no income, she only qualified for $16 a month. This is a joke.

  48. This is what happens when we allow the rich to rule the country. Not one member of congress was making 20-30k a year before they were elected. They have NO idea what it's like to be poor and struggling. I wish I had a job where I could decide if I should get a raise and how long I should be allowed to "serve". Wall street financial reform that passed this week should give ALL middle and lower class Americans a clue as to whats important to these FAKE Americans in comgress. Well, I'm sure they'll enjoy their vacations knowing that their money is safe now. In the mean while my wife and I have 4, yes 4, eggs left in the house to eat. We had to cancel our health insurance(wife is still recovering from back surgey a year ago) and will be homeless in two weeks. The rich in congress have given away our jobs over the last 30 years through programs designed to entice companies to move overseas, created a trade deficit that makes it nearly impossible for American companies to compete with foreign ones- both on American soil as well as overseas, and their only concern at this time seems to be the July 4 vacation break. I will never, EVER vote for another incumbent that has "SERVED" more than two terms again. Oh wait.... you can't vote without an address.... now I see why they don't care. Sad thing is I could get help if I entered the country illegally.

The committee allotted the additional funds even though it noted that “Amtrak has operated at a deficit every single year since its inception in 1971,” and the railroad has received roughly $28 billion in federal subsidies over the past 34 years. Amtrak continues to run largely due to government subsidies.

If the media is unbiased, independent and completely thorough, why haven't they discussed the FED? Currently, half the states have at least a grass roots movement in action to abolish the FED, but there's no press coverage. In July, 1968, the House Banking Subcommittee reported that Rockefeller, through Chase Manhattan Bank, controlled 5.9% of the stock in CBS. Furthermore, the bank had gained interlocking directorates with ABC.

In 1974, Congress issued a report stating that the Chase Manhattan Bank's stake in CBS rose to 14.1% and NBC to 4.5% (through RCA, the parent company of NBC). The same report said that the Chase Manhattan Bank held stock in 28 broadcasting firms. After this report, the Chase Manhattan Bank obtained 6.7% of ABC, and today the percentage could be much greater. It only requires 5% ownership to significantly influence the media (Reference 14, P. 56-57). This is only one of 300 wealthy shareholders of the FED. It is believed other FED owners have similar holdings in the media. To control the media, FED bankers call in their loans if the media disagrees with them (Reference 25, P. 134-137).

  62. 10% unemployment rate? Not even close! More like 20% considering they are not counting the people who do not qualify for unemployment because they got fired rather than layed off , or their unemployment already ran out. Obama claims that there are jobs out there....yeah , the jobs that used to pay $15.00hr are now paying $9.00hr. People are making more than that on unemployment, so who in their right mind would take it? Potential employers are not helping by offering jobs that are just barely over minimum wage when they used to pay much more! They do it because they know there are desperate people out there! And the big corporations need to quit sending our jobs overseas and bring them back here for us! Then we wouldn't have an unemployment problem!

  63. I think we should get rid of kids, sick people and old people, right after we get rid of the Unemployed! I mean, they can only generate expenses, don't you think? America should be for the rich, young and beautiful only...and for Republican Senators, and for Rush Limbaugh, bankers and Wall Street. I mean, after all, they don't need anybody else to live the great life they live. They produce so much for this country, especially Mr. Limbaugh, that they don't need anybody else. Sounds to me like a great idea. If I ever get another Unemployement check, I'll drink to that, right after they test me for alcohol, of course!
By the way, I heard the President was extremely concerned about all the American people who voted for him who would spend this weekend not knowing if they will be able to feed their families next week. I heard he was extremely worried about all of us Unemployed, all of us to whom he spent a zillion hours on the road trying to convince he has for a New America...no war and a new economy! I have "contacts"... you know... so I heard.

That stuff could get on their SHOES!!!! So now, like, where do they go for lavish dinners and big frothy drinks? Also, how do you think THEY feel having to take a vacation while over 2 million + Americans lose everything? I mean, what if they run into (or over) one of us while we stand on the street corners? That's awkward, huh? What can they do except wing some loose change at our heads and have their State Trooper floor that bastard limo? So, com'on, we're in some bad straights, my fellow lazy, drug abusing, unemployment cronies, but what about them, Huh? What about the Senators, for God's sake? Have a heart! It's Summer vacation!

One of the employees didn't like me taking insulin so the employer decided to retaliate after I filed a complaint. Go figure. My unemployment stopped several weeks ago since I was unable to move from the Tier 2 to the Tier 3 extension. I will soon be unable to afford my insurance and medications. I guess I will have no choice but to die in the streets. Thank you senators-now go fuck yourselves, you sorry ass pieces of shit!

Hopefully if we all email the President, Senate and whoever else some message will get through. I am so very frustrated all I can do is try to get through the day. My thoughts and prayers are with all of us going through this. I just hope that this government wakes up and stops sending money overseas and take care of their own.

My rent and car payment is due in 2 weeks. I have applied everywhere and I have been getting rejected for being "Overqualified". I can't even get a job at McDonalds. Most of us don't want to be on unemployment, we rather have a job.

Employers should get tax breaks for hiring those on unemployment.

  79. I am OUTRAGED by the grandstanding and rhetoric that all republicans are using to deny passage of the employment extension 'because it increases the deficit.' Tell me -on which 'high horse' is it that they ride? Where was the republican concern for the growing deficit when they bailed out wall street? Where was the republican concern for the growing deficit when they voted to increase the deficit in the Bush era time and time again? They had no difficulty increasing the deficit when the president was part of their elitist crony gang. Guess what? We the people understand that the republican's newfound concern about the deficit is less about the deficit and more about the republicans being the minority party under a president who does not wear their gang rags. The republicans say 'no' to everything the democrats propose. Here's an idea: let's send all the republicans home and replace them with a simple algorithm: "If the bill is proposed by a democrat, vote 'no'; if proposed by a republican, vote 'yes'." I have written to both my republican Kansas senators, but I expect little more than a form letter in return. The Kansas republican senators do not represent Kansas people - they only represent big business. Here's another idea: NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION. We need to take back this country (again).

If I did not have children, I would be there marching! Are they going to herd us all up to the lines for food stamps or shelters after our begging is not heard?? It looks like America is falling and things will only become worse. After all the evolving humans have done...all of the advances in technology and information...and we are still at this point...only digressing??

This brings to light many things about our country including how limited choices are because of all the red tape we all have to go through to get senate to actually help instead of hinder!!! If this country would have been proactive and progressive in the first place, then we would not be in such poor condition.

Under the H2b1 Visa program they can replace higher paid American technician and engineers with foreigners on H2b1 visa at a lower salary. Once here they bring over their families and friends and help them get jobs where they are working. Companies are rewarded for this.

I have to agree that a little more notice would have been nice. I have dealt with the roller coaster ride of waiting for checks, delayed checks, ridiculous verifications, and taking temporary product testing jobs that I have had burns in areas I would not like to discuss just to get a few bucks. I reported ever cent made, followed the reporting rules and due to an employer payroll error, I an overpayment notice on a Wednesday, they were closed for furlough and closed on the weekend. Monday they took the overpayment out of my check and the payroll dept. called to correct the issue. I got an e-mail that it was corrected, and my next check was regular but still haven't seen the money back and now since I am on extension, I suppose I never will. I have had to pawn my wedding ring, several times, sold as much stuff as I could in garage sales, robbed Peter to pay Paul. I have desirable skills, I have potential but I am so awestruck that I can't even get a call back after sending out hundreds of resumes, singing up with temp. agencies and responding to every on-line work at home scheme. I do go to the food bank, have 2 months of WIC left then my daughter turns 5. Have 3 kids, still had to pay my daycare a weekly rate to keep my spot open if I did get a job (she is thinking of closing too) I do as of today have my house payment mostly current. Even though I have been paying on the 16th and I think this will have an effect too. I have no savings, my life insurance is lapsing, can't afford dental needs, free lunch for kids will end in 3 weeks. I think it would be ok to not get the 25$ a week part if they pass the rest of the bill. But I also believe strongly that things are going to get very desperate and ugly. I minds well call the mortgage lender and my car note and tell them to come now, why keep putting off the inevitable....But, if someone wants to give ideas on how to do something to make it change...rally, write, shed true tears of sorrow and stress on TV...whatever...I'm up for it. Let me know...

If not for paying out all those millions $$$ for illegals to have free food, free medical, free housing, etc, the real Americans would not be suffering and waiting for the teeny small amount of unemployment checks. Hard working Americans are not even covered by medical insurance, when those illegals get free medical care. As soon as an American is laid off, fired, downsized...there goes their medical coverage!! Politicians complain about the deficit that they could care less about, but to line their own pockets. Vote out all incumbents. I have worked continuously for 35 years and was mortified that I was laid off when the company I worked for closed their doors. I did absolutely nothing wrong and found myself unemployed. I send out numerous resumes each and every day. Surf the web all the time trying to find employment. I have found that since I am female, over the age of 50 I am overqualified for just about every job that is out there. I am sick of you telling me that if they shut off unemployment that I will find a job. WHAT'S IT ABOUT THE WORD 'ILLEGAL' THAT PEOPLE AND THE PRESIDENT DON'T UNDERSTAND. ENFORCE THE FEDERAL LAWS, SEND THE ILLEGALS OUT OF THIS COUNTRY, THEY ARE JUST FREE LOADING. THEY DON'T PUT ANYTHING BACK INTO THE SYSTEM LIKE TAXPAYERS DO. THEY ONLY TAKE, AND TAKE, UNTIL THERE IS NO MORE LEFT FOR AMERICANS. HARD WORKING PEOPLE ARE SUPPORTING ILLEGALS. TIME TO END THAT NONSENSE. YOU SEE THE TV NEWS, THEY SHOW ILLEGALS, THEY KNOW WHERE THEY ARE. WILL - DEPORT THEM ALREADY. NO ONE IS DOING THEIR JOBS, NOT IMMIGRATION, NO ONE. GET RID OF THOSE BAD POLITICIANS, MOST OF THEM.

Soon we the people will have nothing to lose and everything to gain by toppling these elitist republicans from their thrones high above 'we the people': lazy, drug addicted, breeding hobos. 130. I've WAS unemployed for 18 month. Because I was self-employed before (38K/year) I did not qualify for any benefits. In these 18 month I did live extremely simple from my savings while writing one application after another. I'm 56 years old, have several degrees and like so many of you I either didn't get any appointments or was told I'm over-qualified. Finally after having VERY little money left I was lucky and got a job after begging the manager in tears. I never thought I would do that kind of work but I thank the Lord every day for the job I got and pray to keep it. I'm cleaning now in a north NV brothel for minimum wage. So many jobless women are calling there out of desperation to get a job as a working lady (prostitute) to support themselfs and their families. The oldest one was 64. But business is very bad even there and anybody is at their limits. It is simply heart breaking. I'm thankful to have the job although I can not tell my family, they think I've a cleaning job in a casino. With the little I make I invite once a week unemployed friends for an inexpensive dinner. They helped me before and now it's my time even if it is not much. I pray and hope for better times for all .......

  131. I am a single father with four daughters. I used to manage an equipment rental store until I lost my job when the economy tanked. Needless to say with the housing market in the toilet so is new construction. Which effects the equipment rental industry and so on. My ex got laid off over a year ago and hasnt paid any support so my daughters look to me for all their needs. We lost our house but I was able to get us into a very small apartment. I have applied for so many jobs, willing to accept starting over from the bottom up. Less pay and way more hours if I can get them. All I heard was I was way over qualified. They didnt want to invest the time in me knowing I would leave as soon as I got a better offer. Finally a company in an entirely different field hired me (part time). It doesnt pay all my bills but helps. Better yet I receive medical benefits for me and my girls which I am so thankful for. I have been able to collect partial unemployment and after cutting all my expenses as much as I could we have just managed to keep our heads above water. My family has sacrificed as much as we possibly can. I have always worked and set that example for my girls. I have accepted less for now to survive. Now congress has decided not to extend the period of time unemployment benefits can be collected by those in need until we can get back on our feet again. I have been so worried that this might happen. Anytime I had a little extra money I stocked up on food. Money for fuel to get to my part time job and look for other employment. We have enough money saved to pay rent and utilities for July. After that we will not last long. I plan to sell all of our furniture in July and August and relocate out of state with my girls back to be with my father. I will loose the part time job I have that supplies our medical benefits and my girls will start over in a new place and a new school but at least we have family there for us. When they noticed that the economy on their way to bounce back, they cut the stimulus that was created for the economy to bounce back. They cut unemployement extension this way can blame it on thed democrats. It sad to how our senators is more concern about polotics rather helping the American people who is about to be homeless. They end up on goverment assistance which more expensive or criminal leads the the deficit more into a hole.Rebuplicans pl's grow up. Stop thinking about your party. Average americans need help now. May God guide youa way out to your selfish intent..

HOW THE FUCK ARE YOU GOING TO FUND THE MASSIVE INFLUX OF PEOPLE NEEDING FOOD STAMPS, PUBLIC MEDICAL AID, HOUSING AND WELFARE NOW???

Democrats are losing faith in Obama and in the Democratic Party.

Republicans are losing faith in the Republican Party.

WAKE THE FUCK UP. Over two million will be homeless by the end of the summer. How many will die of untreated illnesses by then, or lack of nutrition, or suicide, or exposure to the elements from living in cars, or being victims of increased crime?

Society is living in fantasyland because the mainstream media isn't reporting on the ramifications of this.

  143. This is very sad and unfortunate for those who are unemployed. The ironic thing is that this issue is like a outstretched rubber band, you can only stretch it so far be for it snaps and breaks apart, and if you are lucky it wont smack you in the face. I hope Senators realize that there are a lot of crazy people on unemployment that would be willing to take matters into their own hands. I have a feeling that this will result in the death of some high profile Senators who voted it down. I fear for them, but at the same time i cant help but feel they have it coming considering they bailed out wall street and the auto industry but are reluctant to do the same for less powerful citizens.

They will see their companies doors closed, they will see a foreclosure notice on their house, they will see their cars gone, oh and the said thing is their children will be hungry, oh and yes taxes should not be taken from the unemployment checks and why do other states get more, it is bad everywhere.

Folks, it takes money to beat the other candidate. You don't see any poor candidate swing the election do you? They whore themselves out for the money. Now instead of repaying the "loan" with sex they repay it by voting in the interests of the "John" (the campaign fund contributor) and they are "owned" by "the john" and although it is not sex that they are repaying with they have to "bend" and get into the "position" that "the john" demands!

He's not the one who deregulated the financial industry and got us into this mess - he is the one who has just put rules back into place to make them stop screwing us over!

He's not the one who gave TAX BREAKS to companies who outsourced our jobs to Mexico, India, China and wherever else. He is the one who want to stop those tax breaks!

Even so, he needs to step up and get this crap dealt with. Resume the extensions and create a Tier 5. Make it clear to the Senate that he's had enough of their political game-playing. If he can't, then you're right I will lose faith in him as well.

But don't make the mistake of thinking McCain would have given a damn.

  153. REPUBLICAN BASTARDS

Republicans- The true Enemy Of The State

Republicans intentionally stall the economy so that the

    Democrats will take the blame.

Republicans block unemployment benefits extension for

    lazy drug addicted breeding hobos...

Amazingly, it appears, through their words and actions,

Republicans are kicking the unemployed and those on

assistance when they’re down. Consider the following

    statements:

Andre Bauer- Republican Lieutenant Governor of South

Carolina: “My grandmother was not a highly educated

woman but she told me as a small child to quit feeding

stray animals. You know why? Because they breed. You’re

facilitating the problem if you give an animal or

person ample food supply. They will reproduce,

especially ones that don't think too much further than

that. And so what you’ve got to do is you’ve got to

curtail that type of behavior. They don't know any

    better.”

Sharron Angle- Republican Senator candidate: “What's

happened to us, is that we have put in so much

entitlement into our government that we really have

spoiled our citizenry and said you don't want the jobs

    that are available."

John Kyle- Republican Senator of Arizona: “It doesn't

create new jobs, in fact, if anything, continuing to

pay people unemployment compensation is a disincentive

for them to seek new work.”

Dean Heller- Republican Congressman of Nevada: “I

believe there should be a federal safety net.“ Heller

said. But he’s not sure about extending unemployment

benefits because he’s concerned about hobos as he

asked,” is the government now creating hobos?”

Orrin Hatch- Republican Senator of Utah: "We should not

be giving cash to people who basically are just going

to blow it on drugs." (Hatch proposed an amendment to

the jobs bill earlier this month forcing anyone getting

unemployment benefits to undergo drug testing.)

Curiously, this action comes on the heels of recent

reports that the job market may be loosening up a bit.

Some have said that the move by Republicans was to

intentionally stall the economy so that the Democrats

    will take the blame.

So, if you’re an unemployed, lazy, drug addicted,

reproducing hobo, stop attempting to collect the

unemployment benefits that you paid into while you were

working. But since you don’t know any better, the

Republicans will block your benefits while you spend

your days breeding and seeking drugs.

I don't think the news station realized her report is or was the top story on google for unemployment extension latest and being viewed by millions across the world. She wrote me back. I think it's time to start bugging the press. I was mean, but didn't mean to be. The local news is clueless about how much of an impact this is going to have. They are about to find out.

    ReplyDelete
  157. We need this extension, but we also need to put a stop to government and corporate greed. Even if you are lucky enough to have a job, most people are still struggling, while the fat cats keep getting richer. The corporate CEO's get paid an obscene amount of money, while their workers bust their ass and get a pathetic salary for all the work they do. How are these corporate giants working so hard when all we see is them on vacation, on their yachts and playing golf. How hard has the BP president worked?? Look at the Gulf of Mexico. How many of us who did work or still do, worked so hard, put in so much overtime, never saw our families, just to make it, while they just keep spending money. The republicans and the democrats are both to blame. Why have so many jobs been taken overseas? Why are we still involved with the wars in the middle east? We have spent trillions of tax payer money on those wars that are never ending. The list keeps going on. How many bonuses did those people on Wall street get with tax payer money? Change and reform need to happen. Go to the following links and get involved. The only way any of this is going to change is if we band together and demand change!!!

Keep searching the internet to find groups to join and make your voice be heard. The rich will keep trying to keep the poor's voices not be heard, but we just need to scream louder!!! We have to get this country back from the Old White Male American Greedy Bastards.

  159. One of the problems is, there are too many lazy asses out there not even looking for work, sitting on their duffs, just taking what the government doles out. In an economy such as it is now, you do what you have to do to survive until jobs start opening up. I work in the unemployment field. You would be correct to say there are many folks who deserve the UI money because they were legitimately laid off, but there are those who "play" the system and suck up the money needed by the legit worker bees. Some of you whining on this webiste ought to learn how to spell. Might improve your chances of getting hired for something other than a tomato picker.

Our house will be sold out from under us if we miss one payment between now and September. I drive a school bus, but now you guessed it summer vacation. The only thing we have is his unemployment. He had a part time over night job. Guess what, LAID OFF! Not everyone is a scum bag. There are still the few trying to get a pathetic minimum wage job. What's it set at $7.25, so about $200.00 a week will pay my $1300. mortgage. Why doesn't the Senate live 30 days as a real American.

A simple majority will pass legislation, im so sick of the intentional misleading by both political parties. This manipulation of the masses is intentional so they dont have to do anything, they want to maintain the status quo, so they can keep living the high life. Once again we no longer live in a democracy we live in a oligarchy.

Wait, that is not a democracy...I have always believed this was the best place on earth to live...people around the world must be enjoying the Greatest Nation on Earth's global embarassment that they can fight a war yet not defend and protect their own people...we were told we are fighting a war to keep us "safe" but who is protecting us at home?

  172. Nothing comes out of your check towards unemployment. It is ALL paid in by the employers your work for if you are working and earning taxable income and not being paid cash or with a 1099 at the end of the year. Show me on your check stub where it says "unemployment deduction" or words to that effect. If you're going to bitch, at least arm yourself with the facts. Extensions are federal dollars paid by the US taxpayers IF the congress and senate approve a bill aurthorizing them. There have been six extensions already. Some folks have collected UI money for about two years now, and if they are on TRA money (trade readjustment act), they will get even more. Had a woman come into my office the other day who had had six extensions. She was receiving $76 a week in unemployment money. Crying at my desk as though her world was coming to an end. Mid 30's, perfectly healthy. I told her, you can work at McDonalds at minimum wage (they pay more than that) two days a week and make more money than what you've been getting on unemployment. The fact that I suggested she get some kind of job until the economy improves, well, you'd think I had just shit in her dinner plate. Damn sheep...

  177. It is time my fellow Americans to take back our government. We need to abolish all big buisnesses and all that support them. For this is nothing mre than greed that has reared its ugly head. Seriously, not only did they give all jobs to other countries but they took all the money they made from selling their product and kept it. thay put it into overseas banks so they didn't have to pay taxes. Now that we are in this actual Depression not ression the right wing senetors and congressmen that are supporting these big buisnesses have deemed that the unemployeed are lazy and don't deserve their unemployment bennefits. the Same people that voted them in are getting the cold shoulder WOW! c'mon people its time to say enough is enough and do something about this. Drastic times call for drastic measures I say we just get rid of the rebulicans all together. I was once a rebulican that believed in the real virtues that the party used to uphold. Now all that has changed. The more I see the more I realize and catch the lies and deceite that spew from their mouths. They are only out for themselves now. What the hell happen? When did republicans stop carring? Why did they? well all that doesn't matter now, its too late to repent, for they made thier beds now they have to sleep in it. Republicans to you I give this message: We the people of the United States of America that are homeless, starving, and unemployeed, we will rise up against our oppressors the republicans and big business and we will take you totaly out of the equation all together this I promise.and to all the rest of you out there that think I'm joking watch me.

I paid a ton in taxes for CA schools and I never had kids. The purpose of taxes is to run a civilized society. You can bet Congress will be thrilled when we fall off the rolls. It will make the unemployment rate appear to be falling. Then they can say they are doing a great job.

How is anyone supposed to find a job with no car, gas, internet, food or home! The people that are saying ignorant comments need to really look at themselves. Why would you begrudge a person that fell on hard times help? wouldn't you want someone to help you if you found yourself in a bad position? Especially if it was through no fault of your own. People, please have a little common descensy and respect for your fellow man.

  197. It's going to come down to this (mark my words). Some person(s),someone very cunning, will become terminally ill, and they will say fuck it. If I'm going to die...I'm going to take some politicians and insurance company, and banking, etc. executives with me. He'll get some high powered rifles, or explosives and start killing and he'll get a way with it until things start to go the right way because these people are pussies and afraid to die. The best way to change things is to vote out every single incumbent that holds office...period. Don't register Independent, change to Dem or GOP, and then vote the Green Party into office. These are the people that want to change this country for the better. If I ran things, First I'd cut off all immigration period. Then pull our troops out of the middle east and tell them to solve their own problems. Same with the world period. Be a true Isolationist/Revisionist. Tell them if they fuck with us we'll wipe them off the map. Then I would tell every company that outsources to keep their products out of the US period...we don't need them. Then make Foreign import tariffs so cost prohibitive they couldn't bring them in. Then I would put a large part of Americans back to work rebuilding this joke we call an infrastructure. Imagine the jobs that would create. Make all naturalized Americans carry papers or be deported back to where they came from.Everyone here on a work visa gets a plane ticket home, simple as that. That's just for starters. Oh yes. All politicians would forfeit their salaries and get expense accounts only, and be accountable for every penny. No more "at will" employment, no more unions (not 2-3 worth shit anymore anyway). If a company fires someone for a stupid reason they get fined heavily (prohibitively so). I'd put these people that got fired from at will jobs for no good reason to work as watchdogs in all these companies. I'd rather spend trillions on these things than for fighting senseless wars (that Republicans got us into) for people that hate us. Fuck - off Washington. People (politicians) will start dying soon. Remember where you heard it. Nothing in the world more dangerous than an old person with nothing left to lose.

  198. I propose a "TENT CITY" protest, to all the people affected by the economic downturn I suggest you bring a tent to the Memorial Mall in D.C. to demonstrate to Congress just how angry and desperate we are with the lack of leadership. Seeing is believing especially when the news organizations would be having a "media-gasm" over all the potential ratings they could get off of the misery of the unemployed.
