Unemployment Extension and Senate Reconvenes Monday - Will Benefits Bill 2010 Pass?

The 2010 unemployment extension hasn't pass. The unemployment extension benefits bill is something that is very important to the American public. It hasn't passed yet, but the question remains - why not? Why hasn't the Senate determined that it is necessary to help Americans in need at this time? Once the Senate decides to start acting to the benefit of Americans instead of partisan politics, we will be in good shape.

The Senate will reconvene on Monday July 12, 2010 after a wonderful week long vacation with their families to celebrate our nation's independence. There's some speculation that the measure will be brought up for another vote, but in order to pass one more politician must agree to the measures.

Senate Majority leader Harry Reid (D-NV) was given an offer by a Republican Senator - use at least some unused stimulus bill funds to pay for the extension, and gain one more Yay vote. Reid declined.

Robert Byrd from West Virginia will be replaced by the governor after his passing as early as next week.  The new appointee is expected to vote yay on the measure.  If so, the measure will pass provided no one backs out of their "yay" position.

Many are hoping that someone will break away from the "Nay" side and come over to the remaining 59 Senators and give the vote necessary for a 60 vote majority. So far, only two Republicans have voted for the measure - both from Maine.

As the Senate reconvenes, let's just hope that some time in their home states will give Senators the inspiration that they need in order to pass the bill. Let's help Americans for a change.

  2. That's what I read too. They are to meet tomorrow, Saturday to discuss replacing Senator Byrd well as unemployment issue

  3. The first comment was correct, there are a bunch of problems with this article. #1 is that the replacement of an interim appointment will be made soon. There is no rush to name him before Monday night, since it would not make and difference until Tuesday anyways. #2 it does not take 2/3 majority to pass. It takes 60 votes. Same thing, I don't think so. First, a 2/3 majority would shift based on the number of senators actually present. Second, the number 60 is hard written into the rules. It is a big diff (also 2/3rds would be 67 votes).

Not wanting to be evil, but Byrd's passing actually helped. He was not in the senate to vote for the last month or more. The democrats were always running an extra vote short because of that. Now his replacement, the temp one, will likely not be a person who would run again. It will be a democrat drone, who will vote party line on everything and keep the seat warm for the real candidate in the fall.

  4. Unfortunately, the Depression has started because even if this is passed (hopefully), many long term unemployed (99ers etc..) are left out. There are so few jobs for so many and no constructive job programs nor real stability and basic security for so many that things will be worse in short order. Then what?? Myopic vision, arrogance, selfishness, greed and ignorance let alone hypocrisy etc.. have pillaged this country to death. God bless.

  5. After working and paying taxes for more than 44 years, my husband's unemployment benefits were cut off by The Senate last week. We have worked all our lives, never collected a dime before last August, put our children through college, helped our aging parents, and this year we have used up our savings and lost 1/3 of our IRA, and had to cash in the rest. We will lose our home next if the senate does not pass the extension bill, it's that simple. We also have long memories, and have both voted in every election since the day we registered.

  6. How come the President could bypass the Senate and choose someone to run Medicare and Medicaid-AND NOT STEP IN AND BYPASS THE SENATE WITH AN EXECUTIVE ORDER TO PASS THE UNEMPLOYMENT EXTENSION? ALSO, FOR THE PAIN AND SUFFERING WE HAVE ALL HAD TO ENDURE THESE PAST WEEKS WITH NO BENEFITS, NO JOBS - I THINK WE SHOULD HAVE THE EXTENSION TO THE END OF DECEMBER-NOT NOVEMBER. WE SHOULD HAVE SOME COVER FOR THE HOLIDAYS FOR OUR CHILDREN. HOW AWFUL TO GO THROUGH THIS AGAIN RIGHT BEFORE THE CHRISTMAS SEASON. I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE DEFICT NOW....WE NEED TO FEED OUR PEOPLE AND SHELTER THEM NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WORK ON THE DEFICT AFTER YOU TAKE CARE OF YOUR OWN PEOPLE!!! YOU ALL WILL PAY IN THE ELECTIONS FOR THIS POLITICAL STUPIDITY!!! I WAS FORCED TO TAKE EARLY RETIREMENT AS I HAD NO OTHER INCOME. I USED ALL MY IRA FUNDS TO SURVIVE THIS PAST YEAR TO PAY MY BILLS. I WILL HAVE TO CLAIM BANKRUPTCY. SO WILL MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE TO DO THIS TOO. AGAIN, I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE DEFICIT. OUR WORLD MAY NOT EVEN BE HERE FOR OUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN ANYWAY. BESIDES, THEY HAVE TO FIGHT FOR THEIR RIGHTS TOO. WE ARE FIGHTING FOR THEM, SO THEY CAN HAVE SOMETHING TO FALL BACK ON IF THEY BECOME UNEMPLOYED. WASHINGTON, FIX THE PROBLEMS, BUT FEED OUR PEOPLE FIRST!!! GET IT? OR YOU ARE OUT!!!!!

YES, I WANT OUR KIDS TO HAVE A CHRISTMAS MEAL AND AT LEAST ONE TOY! SO, SUE ME! I HAVE WORKED FOR 49 YEARS AND I AM A SENIOR CITIZEN NOW. I DON'T GIVE A HOOT WHO LIKES IT AND WHO DON'T!

GOD BLESS ALL OF OUR UNEMPLOYED PEOPLE

I have been out of work almost 2yrs and as many others have also. i have been on interviews, the problem is that most employers don`t care if im experienced. all i ever here is how many resumes they have, never what i can bring to the table.so now im on a cliff because i ran out of extention`s...i missed tier 2-3 because i didn`t fall on the time line, so now we are screwed.i am a hard worker and have never been out of work.i have never missed any day and continue to do what ever it takes to get the hell out of this !!!

  9. What makes me angry is some people have been on unemployment for Years and my hubby only for 6 months and they are kicking us off with 3 kids at home. I don't understand how they can have some on for years and we are out in the cold after 6 months and no jobs out there to get. He was not fired but let go due to economy. President needs to comet through for all of us now! We all could live on 1/4 of a senators pay and benefits! I would love for them to be in all of our shoes. I now know how the other side lives myself and would never wish this on my worse enemy!

Lets all start praying hard that this ends soon and that all of these republicans are voted OUT OF OFFICE next election!

  10. The replacement should of already taken place. The Senators should of shortened their vacation and this bill should of already been passed. The bill needs to be passed and signed on Monday by Obama, people cannot wait for a whole week, they have already waited over a month and have lost almost everything. Alot of people have been evicted already, sleeping in their cars till they are gone too. People have no food or gas money to continue to look for a job. The children and grandchildren are already suffering, they are homeless and going hungry. I am so disgusted with our government and both sides high school politics.

  11. The 99ers are not the only ones that have run out of unemployment benefits. Some that got 79 weeks or less have also run out. I say 99 for 1 99 for all. To hell with this 99ers crap. Entend tier 4 and add tier 5 now. TO HELL WITH THE DEFICIT AS IT MEANS NOTHING.

I am disappointment with the Republican Senators who voted against the extension for unemployment benefits. I have no family, very afraid of my new life circumstance. Please open your hearts and revisit your decision on your vote.
I always thought I had a great life financially, Senators I hope you never have the feeling that 10 Million Americans are having during these uncertain times. Please think of the people instead of your personal gain.

  16. What the hell is going on with OUR AMERICAN GOVERMENT??? We are suppose to be the most effective and resourceful country in the world and yet our own leaders cannot even come together and pass a bill to help shelter and feed American children. What does that say about our country always running overseas to do the unthinkable for other countries and rather bury their own. Those of you who think that unemployment benefits is a "way out" from working, you are either ignorant and dont know any better to make such a comment or just plain stupid and just want to be heard and seen. I dont think there is anyone who WAS working planned on giving up their jobs for a mere 400.00 per week to pay electricity, gas, water, shelter, kids, clothes, car, insurance, medical bills, food, and even a cell phone which is a necessary in todays life. Its just not that clear in a suggested thought people. Our President has the power to step in and make some things happen in Congress to pass this bill. Its unheard of that MILLIONS of people will go unnoticed in lack of money to provide for their families on pitiful unemployment benefits. Sad thing is you cant even get help from the welfare system because you dont qualify or you have not worked enough hours to get benefits. Believe me when I tell you there are millions of out of work people who search for a ray of hope everyday when it comes to a job, but when you have that even McDonalds is not hiring, you have to try to keep on pushing through. What Congress is failing to realize is that its GOVERNMENT fault that the American people are in this shape. Its not ok to spend billions of dollars on war and roads and 3 piece suits if you have no American people to care about it. Its unbelievable that government has turned their back and left their own hanging in despair. Im ashamed at this point to say that I love this land at this time. Government has been making some horrible decisions for this country for the past 8 years or so and leaving their own people out to suffer behind it is sad. We elected a new president and for most of us out here who dont completely understand how politics work, We expect our president, Mr. Obama to at least do a little more for the american people who have suffered enough at the expense of politics. Is there not any shame when they look in the mirror and call themselves a leader and still expect people to vote for them, have a voice, or stand for what they believe. I think I speak for the majority when I say that we have given democracy a try and it is currently failing us in the worst way. It seems like the american people are slaves all over again in their own country begging for a few scraps to live. Is this how we want this country to thrive. Understand where the people are coming from Congress and put yourself in their shoes, now imagine your own child looking up at your sad face with an even sadder face and wonder if they will be homeless, foodless,or even dead by tomorrow. Without your help now, tomorrow may not exist for some, and then whos hands is their blood going to be on?

  19. there are only really 79 weeks on fed and the 99 is finished on the last 20 weeks from your state.
So, you have to wait to receive a letter from your state and you will continue to receive the benefits. This is what the unemployment office told me. Bring letter to office and sign-up to continue-out to the 99 weeks. This is after Tier 4. I hope this helps. And the Senator might not be appointed for a week or two. Read www.opencongress.

  20. The government knew this way before this happened. Also, June 30th is the end of their fiscal year. I knew they would put this off until after June 30. The money is laying there collecting interest. So, they are pushing it as long as they can.

However, whatever it's worth, they will extend this and we will get the benefits retroactive. I believe this. Sometimes, not always, things turn out better after a crisis. Perhaps the retroactive money will help some people get a better apartment, or pay a lawyer for bankruptcy that we are forced to do. Hang in people, I am in the same boat and used all my resources. I believe that it will pass.
The Senate will be taking a month long recess starting august 1st. I do not believe they can push this too much further.

    God Bless You All

  21. people when you get a job change the mindset of what we have been taught about credit. Start paying for everything or do not buy it on credit. Also get rid of credit cards, pay off homes, cars and we need to live differently. The America Dream is not what we think it was. Change our America and make it strong again.

  22. I find it a tragedy our great nation can take care of everyone in the world except its own people. Our elected officials bail out all the "big business" (extension is a drop in the bucket compared to)and leave millions of hard working Americans who lost jobs because our "elected officials" sent them overseas, flat on their faces! I can't offer to help my neighbor with a house payment if it keeps food from my child's mouth (get the comparison?)I hear the argument that the unemployed should be less dependent on our government. I suppose we have to anyhow when they control where our jobs went right?
The point is, to use this to continue looking for work, or re train like myself. I am a 42 year old college student with a 3.5 gpa. I busted my rear in manufacturing for over 23 years and payed in to this fund and am still eligible for two more extensions.
This egotistical elitist attitude is killing our country, greed runs deep!! Make no mistake those of you arguing which party is at fault. Neither side is better than the other. They all posture on issues in a deeply divided partisan Senate and get little done aside from trying to prove the other incompetent.
Fault is really an irrelevant and pointless cause compared to millions of good hard working men and women in our country NEED and very much want to work. And they are forced to leave their homes, lose the ability to feed themselves or their children, lose every ounce of hope they may have once had. If there are truly jobs to be had by us all and the millions out of work don't know about them, by all means send us a map to Imaginationville and we will arrive in drones ready to report for duty.
I fancy myself more as a "help those in need who are willing to help themselves" kind of guy and I can promise you three things. 1.) I don't exactly know how yet, but I will climb out of this hole and be successful again. 2.) You can bet your last dollar I am not so egotistical, self absorbed, and greedy to understand sometimes people need help. 3.) When I get back to work eventually, I will have ABSOLUTELY no problem paying a little extra in taxes to help those people!!

  24. To the 79 weeks, this is all tier 4 allows. The state picks up the extend benefits for the remaining 20 weeks if the state has high unemployment. You will get a letter from the state. First you have to refile for regular benefits again and then you go back to Extended benefits if you do not have any money or enough paid in the base period. This is what unemployment office told me. I have just been sent a regular one and now I will wait for a letter to sign-up for the remaining 20 if congress approves are benefits. Also read the opencongress about the senator appointment. Sounds if it could be another week or two.

  28. What politicians dont realize right now is that American are at a demand standstill. We demand you find some funding to help the american people or get your asses out of seat and let 8 year olds come take your place because at this point, they have more competency to do the job then you do. and to our beloved president Barack Obama, we the people all know you have a hard job and you have a lot on your place, but your slogan "Change we can believe in" dont mean shit to the American people right now unless you can prove it immediately and get them some help. Contrary to belief, most people have common sense if not book sense and if Congress think they can just throw the American people a bunch of crap about there are no funds to help unemployment extensions, then they can take that shit somewhere else because we know America has hidden and resourceful money to help families who have put in blood, sweat and tears for this land. Without the American people, there is no Government. Get it together now and stop being jackasses.

We are ambitous people and my husband is lucky still be employed. However, before I lost my job I was making about $1000 more than him and with my unemployment I was making about the same as my husband. We didnt have any extra to save but our bills were paid and for that we were thankful. I went back to school and have been searching for work since 8/2009. I am a very successful student however I have failed to find gainingful employment. I have failed my family and my government has failed me. Since 15 I've worked because that is what my father brought me up to do. Now it nearly bring me to tears when I hear our saying we are worthless Americans who are depeding on a welfare like program in unemployment...When I am back on my feet and I will be BACK ON MY FEET, I will seriously consider moving to another country so I dont have to give another dime to support this country who turned its back on me at the time I needed them most!

  32. Everyone should be flooding their local Department of Human Services. Apply for food stamps. Apply for food assistance. Apply for anything else. Apply for extended unemployment. The Democrats are just trying to get people to stop applying for continued claims to lower the unemployment statistics so that they can win the election in November. If you stop applying for Unemployment and these other programs, you drop out of the statistics. We need you all now more than ever. Apply Apply Apply and don't stop until the politicians are unemployed themselves.

  34. I am a 25-year old college graduate with blue-chip work experience and, until last year, had never been without a job--or, worse, job prospects. This last year has been a nightmare. Since being laid-off, my outlook has evaporated from an undiluted, clear glacier into a stagnant, malarial swamp. I have already begun referring to this last year as "my lost year." Most days, I spend the ENTIRE DAY sending out resumes, most of which include painstakingly time-consuming personal cover letters. To little good: few even receive a cursory acknowledgment, let alone (and god forbid) a follow-up interview. My benefits have barely kept my head above water ("personal solvency" seems as hifalutinly-lofty as, say, "civic-mindedness" in our politicians), and yet, within the month, I am likely to lose them. My heart goes out to anyone in a similar (and likely worse) situation. Our plight has largely been marginalized, ignored or reduced to a statistical tree stump. Millions of Americans that have never required an ounce of assistance our now plumbing the depths of humility while our elected leaders and indifferent fellow-citizens increase our humiliations through their ill-timed vacations and demoralizing villainizations. Increasing our benefits will not "add" to the deficit. In fact, shame on anyone that could believe, think or rhetorically-frame the preservation of a substantially-reduced--this hurts to call it this--"livelihood" (i.e. unemployment benefits) as wrong, wrong-headed or fiscally-irresponsible. Washing our collective hands of the millions likely to enter a new mode of poverty as their benefits expire will create a far-worse social and cultural deficit.

  35. Congress and Senate new before they passed the last extension until June 2 that they had no plans to pass this. Fiscal year ends. Stalling to get rid of the $25 also. And they make what a year? We just need some decent jobs and to be hired. PUT AMERICAN BACK TO WORK. What is wrong with educated Congree and Senators that think we really love to live on less and no benefits and this is what we really want (not to work) I loved my job.

  37. My heart breaks when I read the stories of the unemployed. I have worked since I was sixteen years old, and now I am 58. Not news - but I have been sending out so many resumes for the past year and a half - and also going door-to-door. I'm not in as nearly such a desperate situation, because my boyfriend took me in (I lost my house). It's a tragedy that people cannot keep their homes, and feed their children. But has anyone mentioned deteriorating relationships caused by this mess? My boyfriend is employed, and doesn't understand why I can't find a job. It's caused a huge rift between us. I have a list of the places I've applied and been to, but he doesn't think I am trying hard enough! On top of the money situation (I just lost my unemployment checks), I am now having severe anxiety and stomach problems. It really bothers me to no end that the Senate cannot imagine what this is doing to Americans, their children, and to relationships. What do I tell my boyfriend when there are 300 applicants for every 1 good job here? Plus, employers are looking at credit scores now, and I lost my house because of unemployment. This is so much more than the loss of money - it is respect, relationships and self-esteem. I have little to no confidence now in my abilities after working very successfully for the past 42 years!

There is still plenty of money to pay their bills so why make a quick decision? They need that money to fund wars so their friends (defense cantractors) can make millions protecting their oil interests!!They need to hurry 500 million and 1200 troops to guard our borders from mexicans trying to escape poverty.Millions of minimum wage jobs are at stake!!!Nothing worthwhile has ever been gained without a fight. I believe it is important to vote Democrat if only to keep Republicans out. In some ways, this does seem like the lesser of two evil, but voting Independent or whatever is a waste of your vote. 47. I'm happy to see that most of the people on the websites I have looked at over the past couple of weeks are really pushing for this bill to be passed.
What will America do when people can't pay their rent, car payments and utilities? What will happen when Americans don't have any money to spend at their local Wal-Marts or fast food joints? My point is that when Americans run out of money America is going to stop running. Businesses will shut their doors because they aren’t making a profit and even more people who lose their jobs. I hope that people push to get American companies back on American soil. I don't care if they have to pay the companies to bring them back, as long as when they do, they hire U.S. citizens to work in for them.

We are not going to win there.. and to keep the casualties climbing is disheartening.. to the families and children already. Also.. this war deficit money could be going towards much of all we need here.

  50. I am at a loss for words.
If we didn't have to pay so much in taxes to keep 535 crooks, thieves, and criminals in a pay check, perhaps we would have enough saved up not to need unemployment.
Congress should have there bank accounts frozen, and no pay check for six weeks.
Then they may know why the extention is needed by so many AMERICANS.

  51. I am all for unemployment benefits that people pay into when they work..therefore entitled. However.. I don't feel badly for anyone who has been on unemployment for 2-3 years. One year is long enough. I am reading and re reading ...people with kids..which upsets me because.. when you have kids..they come or should first.. and you do whatever you have to to feed them. McDonald's always... hires and their managers get paid salary and well. House Cleaning Or.. Industrial Office Cleaning etc. I keep reading.."I have kids.. and my husband.. can't find a job????? What is wrong with that picture.. If the wife can't OR Refuses to take on work.. then the man must work for both of you.. and the kids should be the reason.. to not sit on your lazy ass and take anything..even McDonalds.. Or.. those kids will and should be taken away. If your husband is set in his ways.. and won't take any job then divorce may help you make ends meet faster then him sitting home when kids are involved for 2-3 years. I can't wrap my head around that. Some families that have kids.. shouldn't have. If the man can't get a job then the wife needs to get off her lazy ass and find one for the family if nothing else for the kids.. or give them up!

  52. People .. whom can't find work in 2-3 years.. are either.. too set in their ways.. and they don't deserve more and more unemployment. If you have kids.. and can't provide for them because you won't get up and take any job.. even at McDonalds.. Cleaning jobs something.. and if the wife refuses to work.. or get help watching the kids.. or you can't move closer to family.. or in with.. I don't feel bad for you.. Only Your Kids.. that you don't deserve to have!

  53. IF ...we don't allow for helping the non 99ers.. whom are out of work for one year or less.. we will have massive amounts of people on welfare system.. who have no choice but to run up food stamps.. food pantries..government section 8 housing.. state energy assistance programs..and state funded health care. All this my friends.. is going to end up costing us more..over years.. that exceed the unemployment. This above statement is what will run up the deficit.. not a unemployment extension. I don't think the 99ers desserve what the new unemployed or anyone else will even get coming in. Whats fair is fair.. and the Government can't afford to support the unemployed for 2 and 3 years. That is asking way too much!

  54. Something is Radically wrong... when two grown adults.. are Both.. unable to work. I know.. there are jobs out there.. maybe beneath what your use to having.. maybe not your dream job..maybe not the vocation or career or job you had or the pay... But.. when times are tough.. you do what you have to survive..or you get evicted.. live on welfare.. and food stamps.. all because.. you won't take a job that is beneath you.. not at your level.. not one your use to? That is "ignorance" and those who are that ignorant... deserve what they get.. "nothing". If you have two people and kids.. both should be working. If one can't then you need to work for the slacker in the relationship or marriage.. especially if you have kids. If you pity yourselves.. and your situation.. your energy is not invested in your getting jobs or the kids...but in Ego.
We live in a spoiled rotten society.. one of "entitlement" you then teach your kids.. that sense of entitlement and they grow up to be ugly selfish.. spoiled people..like mommy and daddies examples that they will follow.. If they don't work why should we.. mentality. Especially... boys they will grow up to be bad husbands and fathers whom are not able to successfully.. support their families..and that is a waste of space in this world.. and to do to another human being! Shape Up.. People With Kids! Your Setting A Bad.. Example!

  55. Many ... adults have two and three lower paying jobs. They are out there.. 2-3 equally one real good one. Men use to work this way.. what happened. I will be damned if my husband would be a slacker.. and not work for more then a few months. In this economy the women need to work too.. unless your wealthy.. and if you were.. you wouldn't be on unemployment. Having kids..is not a reason to not work.. if your husbands are having a hard time getting work. Women need to step up! Find a skill you have.. everyone is good at something. Bake cakes if you have to. Clean houses.. those jobs are always... hiring. Go back to school men and women .. husbands. Just Do It! Unless you want to live in a tent or mobile camper somewhere. People are working and going to on line College.. Unemployment is not meant to be your meal ticket. Many Countries don't have unemployment what if we were one of them? Maybe its time to move in with your parents ..yes.. maybe you need to reach out to family and friends for help ..instead of depending on the Government for hand outs. Sit down and make a plan of action.. then a back up plan incase that doesn't work. There is always a need in kitchens in restaurants.. dishwashers.. porters.. bus boys.. waiters..You do what you have to do.. to keep money coming in. Instead of posting on here.. use that time and energy to pound the pavement. I went through my phone book and called almost every business until I got some replies and interviews. Walk and bike ride.. ask a friend or family member to drive you.. whatever it takes .. promise to re pay them when you get a job. If you still can't make it and are in another state.. maybe its time to think about moving back to the state your family is in. There is safety people in numbers remember that. Women with kids get a RN Or LPN License.. go back to school or you will never make it. What if your husband dies tomorrow? Unless you have a hefty life insurance policy .. you will have to work a low paying job or two.. or .. get educated. Times are tough. No one person can just work and afford that. Not in today's world. Its too much strain on one person to do alone and that will weigh on your marriage. Do help one another! Help you neighbors.. whomever needs it.. And if you can't go to school on unemployment that's just too bad.. so.. sad.. Maybe..a job is more important at the moment!

I am a single mother and i am no longer receiving unemployment ddue to the lack of effort or care in voting the extension into exsistence. If the do not vote soon and resolve the matter. My children and i will be homeless. I was not receiving much but it was at least paying my rent. Bow i have not received any money since the first of June. Everyone needs to vote YES for the employment extension.

  74. I am amazed at how ignorant some people are. Yes, it would be nice if we could all find jobs or start some type of business even if it is cleaning houses. I have been out of work since May, 2008, and have exhausted all UI benefits and extensions. The transmission in my car went out and I sure don't have the money to fix it now that there are not more unemployment checks. I do receive social security and child support for 2 grandsons I am raising so that pays housing and part of the utilities. I am much luckier than most. During my 25 months of unemployment I have applied for thousands of jobs, even ones paying much less than I was making before. The problem is that I am 59. No one wants to hire someone my age. How are we supposed to find a job when there are none out there? How do we start a small business, even baking or cleaning, when we can't afford the products needed to perform those tasks, or put gas in the car? When you are standing on the outside looking in, everything may seem simple but when you are the one facing all of these problems, they are insurmountable. Many of us don't have anyone to turn to for help. Childcare is so costly that those with young children can't afford to work a minimum wage job unless they have some family to help. Be careful judging those of us who are unemployed. You never know how long you will have your job.

  77. I am a 41 year old single mother of a 16 year old daughter.. I have been working since I was 16 years old and never asked a dime off of anyone.. I was laid off in January and from day one I have been sending out 100's of resumes going to temp agenies, going on Job interviews and what the senate needs to know is that there are alot of companies out there who say they are looking to hire and they really are not hiring the responces I have been getting is they decided to hire someone within the company, or they decided to hold off for another two or 3 months... Or they just changed their mind all togther and decided not to hire.. The tempoary agenices or a JOKE!!! I can't tell you how many times I was told I was prefect for a postition and they needed to get in touch with their client and it seems all temp agenices have the same answer they can't get a hold of their client, or the company is on a freeze.. It seems as though all temp agenices advertise these jobs that are really not there just to make them look good and waste our time on jobs that are not there.. For instance my daughter when to Mc Donald's to fill out an application as the sign in the window said " Now Hiring" same with Tom Thumb.. And both came back and said they will call when they are "Hiring" as they are not hiring at the moment" My daugter asked " Then why do you have a sign in your window that says " Now Hiring"? Neither person could give her an answer! So in the long run alot of us are getting false hope on companies who say they are hiring and they are not... And the temp agenices need to be reported..

I have spent all of my 401K, I have also borrowed from my life insurance, And recieved my last check from uneployment last week. And if the senate does not pass for an extension I will loose everything I have worked so hard for my car, my home. And to top it off, if I have to move I will have to pay $ 1500 for breaking the lease.. Like I have $ 1500?? So, either way you look at this we are all given false hope and we are getting punished by the goverment?? Damn if you do and Damn if you don't! So, I guess the senate doesn't care about the economy and the way we are getting treated.. And I guess he will sleep well out there knowing Over 2 Million people will probaly be homeless and out on the steets, mothers, fathers, babies, kids, on the streets.. How can he live with that??? This is just like being in a hurricane we are loosing our homes and everthing we have but the americans give back to emergency's and the goverment help out so being laid off from a job you worked for years and spending sleepless nights sending out resumes, going on one job interview after another... and given flase hope, informaion, etc and then worrying how your family is going to survive??? And the senate is showing he may not give a damn?? I can only pray to god to show no mercy on the goverment as they are punishing us our kids and forcing us out in the streets.. Wgat did we do Wrong???

I have 18 yrs. legal exp., 5 yrs. of banking exp., paralegal degree, managed a law firm and have been to 4 colleges and have applied for 350 jobs and can't find not ONE JOB. I have one more week of unemployment left and if congress does not pass this extension I will have no income so then what??????? I lose our home which makes me look like a failure to my 2 daughters. I have done so much research since I lost my job and the economy is not getting better and it's time to get serious. I am tired of struggling and hiding all of this from my children so they don't worry or ask me "ARE WE POOR". My ex-husband owes me $40,000 in back child support, medical and dental expenses. I am taking him to court in August and pray I walk out with some cash in my hand. I will do without but not my children.

Lower paying service jobs are out there and are a dime a dozen. Stop Making Excuses.. Stop Being Lazy..Stop The Sense Of Spoiled Entitlement. Or.. Go live in a shelter..those are your two choices. Because.. the Government is not responsible for holding your hands.. and interviewing for jobs. Maybe you need to brush up on your interviewing skills.. and resume. Maybe you need to dress more professional.. or.. better period. Congress can't stop the world to support every family that is not willing Or Competent. She would probably say its for the best you do give up your homes.. since your only living off unemployment and can't seem to afford to live in a home anymore. That would leave you with more money in your pocket.

  99. You People .. Need A Back Up Plan.. Especially .. the 99ers. I heard the Senate if going to pass the extensions.. But.. it will not effect the 99ers who already had 2-3 years on unemployment which is a Very Long Time! Congress wants the new comers on unemployment to be afforded the same as the 99ers have been. Its only fair. If it were up to you 99ers.. you would be okay collecting for 2-3 more.. and we can't as a nation afford to have that happen VS. the Millions unemployed. Its time to maybe think about a back up plan.. moving to Canada maybe.. which I hear is all for the poor people and they have a ton of programs.. they pay for no health care. Thats something to consider. OR.. Move to where ever you have family. There is safety in numbers and the only way to survive today..is either move in with family.. Or.. plan to put the kids to work.

WE, THE PEOPLE, THAT HAVE WORKED FOR MANY YEARS, HAVE KEPT THIS COUNTRY RUNNING WITH OUR TAXES DOPEY! DON'T MAKE THE MISTAKE OF THINKING EVERYONE HERE IS LOOKING TO MAKE A VERY HIGH SALARY. BUT.... WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO LOOK FOR A JOB THAT CAN PAY OUR BILLS....FOOLS, FOOLS, FOOLS! I AM AN AMERICAN AND WE, THAT ARE UNEMPLOYED ARE AMERICANS, AND WE....ARE ENTITLED TO BE TREATED AS SUCH. NOT AS ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS! WE NEED TO GET THEM OUT OF OUR COUNTRY AND HAVE THEM LEARN TO READ AND GET AN EDUCATION SO THEY CAN PAY INTO THE SYTEM LIKE WE HAVE. BUT, WE AS THE TAXPAYERS, WOULD HAVE TO FOOT THE BILL FOR THEM FOR THEIR EDUCATION, FOOD AND SHELTER. I PERSONALLY DON'T MIND, BUT DON'T YOU DARE COMPARE US AMERICANS TO ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS YOU STUPID, IGNORANT PERSON. YOU GO WORK AS AN IMMIGRANT AND OPEN YOUR POSITION FOR AN UNEMPLOYED PERSON. WELFARE AND UNEMPLOYMENT ARE TWO DIFFERENT ENTITLEMENTS!!! BOTH ARE NEEDED IN OUR COUNTRY WHEN THE GOVERNMENT MISUSES OUR TAXES AND PUTS THE PEOPLE IN THIS MESS! AGAIN, STUPID PEOPLE!!! 108. I made a post at July 10, 2010 5:51 AM - And to all you other people who are calling us lazy, etc shut the hell up. I am a very attractive 41 yr old with a 16 year old daughter my resume was professionally done, my interview skills are top notch as I said before I have been working since I was 16 years old and never once asked for help.. I was living on my own at the age of 17 years old... And I am currently taking online classes to get my next degree while looking for a job or jobs.. As I stated before, comapnies are stating they are hiring when they are really not, temp to perm agencies are a joke they advertise for jobs that are not there and give you some lame ass excuse, they can't get in touch with their Client or all of the sudden the company went on a freeze...

Who died all made some of you God??? And judge the right of us and tell us our kids should be taken away from us as we can not provide???? Thats BS! We are doing everything to keep a roof over our head digging into our 401K, life insurance, credit cards, etc... You can't turn to family when family does not have enough money to pay your rent, electric, and pay theirs too.. And, someone mention getting help from your church? Sure, that can happen but when their are other people asking for help they do what they can..

Shame on you people who are downgrading us when alot of us have a BA or have been working 40 plus years and every day out looking for a job and going on interviews.. As I said before my 16 yr old daughter who has a 4.2 GPA went to Mc Donalds and applied for a job their as they had a sign in their window saying " Now Hiring" and they really were not hiring.. So, WHY have a sign in the Window??? Same with Tom Thumb, alot of false advertisement.. Far as getting two jobs?? Again, its pretty clear we are all looking for jobs and we are all not lazy ass people.. I have had several companies tell me I was hired on the spot....One Company which is very well known offered me a postition and the next day I get a call stating they chose to hire someone within the company... The other jobs that were offerd to me some went on tempoary hold and will not start training classed till Mid September.. I am out there busting my ass every day looking for a job or two jobs..

Don't down grade us when some, maybe alot of us have been working before alot of you selfish people were even born.. Maybe if the shoe was on the other foot and you went months with out a job and couldn't find even two part time jobs?? How would YOU provide for your family? What if you lost your job yesterday? You will need to start doing what we have all been doing looking for jobs and hoping you will get one soon and if you don't what then? How will you provide for your family? If your a single parent its alot worse... The company I worked for I was there for many years and some were there since the company open their doors 22 years ago more then half of us were laid off and their was only 22 of us... We were offered no severance pay, only what we had left which was our remaining vacation time, our 401K and a two week check..

I have a BA and have yet to find a job or was offered a job and overnight things turned around for that company... Who just had a recent lay off which I was not aware of. As I said before there are alot of companies here in Texas who say they are hiring and they are not hiring. Temp to Perm agencies are a joke I will not even go into that again- read my post from earlier this morning July 10, 2010 5:51 AM

Hell, last month another 200,000 jobs were lost.. So, hey you maybe next... My mother has been working for a well known company for 30 years and has made it through every lay off but she was given notice last week that her department will be shutting down...

Again, don't try to knock us down as alot of us are fighters and have been working for YEARS and this is out first experiance for some of us not having a job... So shut the hell up!

Yes, alot of us have BA & Masters and out looking for a job or two jobs alot of us were laid off or the company shut down, there is alot of reasons... And you can't draw unemployment if you were fired if you were fired you were not doing your job.. PERIOD! Unlike the rest of us who have been working 10, 20, 30 years at the same job did we ask for the company to shut down? Did we ask the company to move overseas?

yes, I have a BA not a masters my cousin who has been out of a job for a year now has a Maters and has yet to be hired... Texas & Tenn are the worse places to find job but AGAIN like I said don't judge us if you don't know us as the guy said above this is a waste of our time because I am sure alot of you have nothing else better to do is to bash other peoples life because you have nothing better to do...

I have been out of a job since January of this year which is not that long and while I was working for this company for 15 years I had our clients calling me and offering me a job and now since its been so many years I called my clients back and they are laying off people or shutting down...

This is the first time I have ever been laid off from a job.. I did work for one company many years ago for two years until they closed their doors and I found a job in two weeks which was the job I had for 15 years up till January of this year so this is the longest I have been without a job...

So, thanks but no thanks for you trying to beat all of us down or making a comment about I can suppport my daughter?? ( I have been supporting my daughter for 16 years now- she is healthy, she has a 4.2 GPA she takes AP Classes, and now she is offering to get a job.. Again, I have been out of a ob since January of this year which is not like others who have been out of a job for a year or two years but I am not going to cut them down as I have no right to.. I don't know them to cut them down.. As well, as any of you don't know any of us.. But, we all live in the same country our maybe some of the bashes above are the imagrants who are taking over the jobs... Who knows and I REALLY DON'T CARE!!! As I will find a job... And showing my daughter as a perfect role model that even though life maybe tough at times you have to keep fighting... I have taught my daughter very well... Again, so shut the hell up.. For my part, I have had a minor set back.. PERIOD!!!!

Lets not forget the hurricane victims, who lost everything and thier jobs and and collecting unemployment so to all you who say we are bad parents because we are collecting unemployment for the *****first****** time and we need our children taken away from us, blah blah.... So, I guess the hurricane victimes in Hati, New Orleans who are still suffering need to have thier kids taken away?

If so, may god have no mercy on you and I pray for alot of you to loose your jobs as an additional 200,000 jobs were lost last month and so far this month.. So, maybe your next?? Maybe an earthquake will wipe out your city and jobs, maybe your job will close their doors with no notice.... What about the militray people who severed our country and had a job and they were laid off and lost their jobs?? Should their children be taken away from them??

Alot of us have taken extra steps to keep our family above water, going into our 401k, etc.. My daughter does have health insurance with BCBS & dental as it was to expensive to add her on at my job I worked for 20 years so believe me she is well taken care of...

I show no mecry for any of you who are bashing us who are trying every day and on weekends to find a job or jobs... Shut the hell up and go find something better to do.

We the American people need to show these traitors to the American people that we can and will rise up against them when pushed too far. Stand outside the polls in November and remind voters just what happened this summer. We need to get these greedy traitors out of office period. And if the next group doesnt make things better then vote them out. And keep voting them out until they realize they cant hold us hostage any longer. We have only ourselves to blame because we voted them in in the first place. Now is the time to stand up and correct our mistakes. We must stick together and take back our country. 139. Who in the hell are you if you seem to have it all figured out and bashing us? Karma is beautiful what goes around comes around. Bashing people who have been unemployed for the first time in up teen years. As it was stated above my the lady 200,000 jobs were lost just last month, and addiional 100,000 this month and climbing. We paid our taxes for upteen years and all we are asking is for a little help. And for the people who are being lazy asses and not looking for jobs and maybe taking advantage of the unemployment believe me they are checked out if they are without a job for more then 7 months they are asked to provide all the jobs they have been on, the numbers, and each one is called on.

If the turn out is bad and false information is given they will loose their unemployment in a heart beat. I am very well aware of this as I was employed by the goverment and worked for the Unemployment benefits. Unemployment has been around for many many years its not going anywhere. And more and more jobs are being lost every day.

  143. I seriously.. believe as a nation we all have become a nation of greed. I bet that is why all this is happening bad to us all. Liberating oneself to the degree we do.. as we reach higher and higher.. for more and more power.. in areas that are not always humanitarian.. may be a wake up call. We need more nurses. There is a nursing shortage.. and with more and more earthly disasters..the need for nurses and other areas in the medical field will grow more and more then they are right now. Everyone wants a dream job.. but to be able to reach for a humanitarian career and show your child that is what life should be and could be about.. is what matters most. Especially.. when buildings will crumble due to weather.. etc. I think God is wanting to show up..that some of the jobs and careers won't matter and are much much more trivial then human lives are. Maybe .. we are being summoned now.. to help.. and go into areas that will help others.. not just focus selfishly on our wants.. and dreams.. but to what is happening around us.

  144. To the reply July 10, 2010 5:45 PM - first off, I was married at the age of 22 and lost my husband while he was serving our country many years ago. Second, I do have a man in my life. Third, yes I am unemployed and this is the first time I have been unemployed since I statred worked at the age of 17 & going to college. I have been without a job since again JANURAY OF THIS YEAR WHICH IS NOT LONG AT ALL. Fourth, none of the bashing people above can say you have lost a job, was fired from a job, quit your job, etc.. If so, then right back at you what kind of example of you setting for your kids or do you even have kids??? We all have been through minor set backs..

Fifth, what parent does not teach their child to go after their dreams?? Yes, she is an over achiever but she chose to be that way... She is 16 years old and has missed maybe a week of school since her first day of Kindergarden. She is very mature for her age, she chose to go out and get a part time job I did not ask for her to do so.. Like the man said above, its great I have a daughter who is willing to help when there are lazy ass men, and teenagers who believe they don't have to do a damn thing... Teenagers I mean 17 or above and thinking I will let my parents support me for the rest of my life because I don't need a job... If thats how your rasing your kid then I really for sorry for you to teach your kids to sit on their asses and expect everything to be handed to them on a silver platter... Again, my daughter loves kids, she loves babysit, she loves to teach kids how to read, etc.. And she knows later on in life she has to start working to earn a living...

I rather mhy daughter choose the right path for her life, then choose the wrong path and think everything is handed to her without doing anything is wrong.. Again, she chose to get a job as she wants to work and what she earns is her money, Not Mine! I am not taking money from my daughter.

Sixth, the divorce rate is higher then the uneployment rate.. So Dear Basher, there are alot of single parents out there.. WAKE UP!!!!!! What, should I teach my daughter life is perfect, and you will marry then man of our dreams and you will stay married till the day you die?? When she is experancing her friends parents going through a divorce, or her best friends mother dying of cancer..

Yes, I married my high school sweet heart we had a daughter 3 years later, he was killed serving our country when our daughter was only a year old.. So, again do not bash me as you do not know me... You just figured, I was a single mother had a baby without a father.. You jump in and think the worst of people when you don't even know them.. Again, it just shows you and others have nothing better to do then to bash others to make you feel better because your life is probaly pretty lonely.. Or you feel bad for yourself and need to bash others.. Who knows.. And I really don't care.. So, next time when someone else on here post a comment don't assume they are bad people.. Don't assume they were never married and don't assume that being raised by a single parent is wrong when maybe it was out of their control, do to death, divorce, etc...

So, teach your child that life is perfect, she will never have to experiance death, she/he will marry and will never get a divorce, or experiance their spouce dying, and teach them that everything is handled to them on a silver platter.... RIGHT!!!!! Your in a dream world!

    Im done..

  145. It takes a big hearted human being to use this sad time wisely.. and to go into a humanitarian job/career path.. that may not be your ideal.. but is for sure.. what life means and is about. Because when all is said and done..its not what we achieve monetarily.. that will make a difference or leave our mark/dent in the world. Its what you have done while here in a humanitarian way to help this world and others in this world. If you can relate that to your life and the work path you pursue.. you will achieve more spiritually and leave behind more then most people who do things for their own gain.. and because they want to.. will.

  146. Thank God.. Your Done! Amen To That! Just Don't Assume.. your so.. perfect when you have pointed out many points to offset that.. is all I am saying.

  147. Sorry to say.. an over acheiver.. will have a harder time in life then a child somewhere in the middle of that .. Under Achieving is not good either.. but.. there needs to be a ballance. Dreams are nice.. but there not always the reality of what life will bring. I have seen peoples bubbles get burst. You think times are bad for us? Just wait and see how hard the kids now will have it... when they will need two PHD's to get a job.

  149. There are so.. many meaningless jobs out there with companies and corporations that are all about greed .. and only about profit. However..to be able to have a heart and help another human being is what makes life worth living and all about.

  150. A good friend of mine.. her husband taught their son at an early age .. to win.. and how important that is. As he grew up.. he couldn't stand to lose. He couldn't take it. when he became a teenager.. all this over achieving.. came back to him. Other boys his age.. beat him in sports.. they proved to be better then he was. He didn't have what his father wanted for him to be a professional athlete. It was just not in the kid. So.. she allowed him.. to date early. He had to be popular.. because that was how he was being raised..He again found out there were better looking and more popular boys and not all the girls thought he was as cute as the other boys. He would cry.. kick and scream throwing a fit..because he couldn't handle it. He began cheating in games they would play..once again.. being allowed like that was fine..anything to win. Well..now..she has issues with him being a defiant young adult. He has no regard what anyone says.. he does and says what he wants. This is a nightmare to her family and societies problem in the future..because there is always going to be someone to snap reality back into you.

  151. None of my post say I am perfect.. if you were the person who said *************** Okay.. Bimbo if you were here I would kick the crap out of you! You are a failed human being! First Of All.. Your Not A Role Model For Her Or Yourself..If Your Still Collecting Unemployment .. That Hun..Is far from Perfect..Or A Role Model. Secondly... You Don't Have A Husband.. Another Failure! If you were so.. great..your would be married! Also.. your teaching your daughter to be an over achiever..which puts a whole lot of pressure on a kid. Showing any child being on unemployment and being a single parent is the way to go> ? Your Living In a Pretend Fantasy World. *****************

No where have I said I was perfect in any of my post... YOU were the one who bashed me on being a bad parent and assuming I didn't have a husband, and assuming I am showing my daughter that collecting unemployment is the way to go when its far from it.. And also stating being a single parent is another failure?? Did I choose to be a single parent after my husband/her father died? I am not going into this again as I explained it all in my post above where it says at the end " I am done"

I am far from perfect- No one is perfect! The fact that I have been unemployed for 5 months after being working for 15 years at my last job is not showing my daughter a bad example its showing her that life is not always going to go her way and she will face hurdles, set backs, death, etc... And one last thing you also assumed or someone else did below your comment that I don't have any income coming in what so ever or that I am not trying to get a job send out 100's of resumes, go on a job interview atleast 3 to 4 times a week... And have had job offfers on the spot..One company I was hired for decided not to hire anyone as they were about to go on a company freeze, the others I was hired for was through a temp to perm agencies and those jobs fell through because of reasons they couldn't get a hold of the client, blah blah I have allready mention this is one of my post.. Long story short the job was really not there..Temp to Perm agencies are a joke, false advertisement, no jobs, poor communcation, in all they just bring in people to make them look good.. Apple One here in Texas has already been reported for leading people on...

  152. To the reply July 10, 2010 7:12 PM - I am not teaching my daughter to Win at everyhing she does and to any parent that does that to a child is wrong.. All I was saying is my daughter is very mature for her age and she loves to go to school, she hates to miss school, she wants to work, all at the age of 16 years old.. She has a 4.2 GPA, Straight A's all her life she is a gifted child as she learns things really fast, she can read a paragraph once and have it memorized.. So, maybe I went out of the way when I said over achiver.... She just wants to do well in life and she wants to go to college to go after her dream job and if she doesn't get her dream job she is aware of that she has other professions she will take on and study for...

  153. Don't read the jerks who get on here. Our kids are going to go back to school soon. No money for supplies, or anything else. We should keep them home.Home - school them. They will lay off teachers, cafeteria workers, bus drivers, etc. Quit getting funds for the schools. See how soon DC does something then. I don't want anyone else to lose their job.Bur if I'm going down, I want DC to at least know we are here.

  161. Unemployment Extensions Will Be Passed Late Tuesday!

    ReplyDelete
  162. Friends,

We have good news. Senator Robert Byrd's successor is going to be sworn in next Tuesday afternoon, and immediately after that, the Senate will hold another vote on extending Emergency Unemployment Compensation and full federal funding of Extended Benefits through the end of November 2010. We expect we will finally have the 60 votes needed to proceed to a final vote on the bill. The House can quickly take up the Senate version, and hopefully, well before the end of next week, the President can sign the bill into law and the programs will be retroactively reinstated.

We need your help for one last push. Between now and next Tuesday, it is imperative that you keep calling and emailing both your Senators and Representatives to let them know how important it is that they vote yes on this bill. We need to hold all the votes together and get this done!

Please continue to take action by emailing your representatives and urging them to immediately pass H.R.5618, which will reinstate the federal extensions. You can also call the Congressional Switchboards, (202) 224-3121 for the Senate, and (202) 225-3121 for the House, and ask for your members' offices.

For some additional talking points, please see our chart that shows which Senators and Congress Members voted against the extensions, as well as the impact their vote has had in your state. Please make sure to reach out to those who have voted against the extensions in the past, and let them know how their actions - and the resulting extension lapse - have impacted you. We'll be sure to post updates on our blog with any updates that we receive.

Thanks for all your dogged determination to see this through. We hope that for those of you who will be getting benefits restored that it provides a measure of comfort, no matter how temporary.

    Your friends at unemployedworkers.org
