Could an unemployment extension Tier V 99er movement change the GOP’s mind? Just as the Tea Party has promised to change the landscape of American Politics, so too could an unemployment extension movement.
The 99ers are a strong-willed group of individuals. It’s something that is very commendable. After all, they have to fight for what they think is right, as nothing will just be handed to them.
A Tier V extension is arguably the only thing that makes sense right now for millions of American workers. Corporate downsizing, outsourcing, and the lackluster economy in general has created a nightmare for the job applicant pool.
The GOP is against using deficit spending to fund a Tier V extension, although they would be willing to add to the deficit to fund tax cuts for the wealthy. The worst part is, the party will be able to stall things up for families in need of money.
If all the 99ers participated in a movement – every single last 99er – would it change the GOP’s mind? In the year of an election, are we missing out on the opportunity to storm the opposition and ensure that we get the benefits and treatment we deserve?
Hell ya let's rally
ReplyDeleteNothing will change the minds of the stubborn GOP.
ReplyDeleteHey repubs!!!!, are you really the IDIOTS that you propose to be to think that the American People will tolerate your frugal attitudes twds us? Well, NOT!!!!....You are DONE in NOVEMBER and BEYOND!!!!.... mitch mcCONARTIST take your GOONIES and vacate the premises in November !!!! The American People refuse to be reprensented by you any longer via Kentucky thru California and ALL over....MORONS !!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't have time to rally. Out looking for work!
ReplyDeleteDo away with the minimum wage law. Free the labor market up so people can get back to work. This will greatly reduce the unemployment rate. Pass the word to your fellow 99ers.
ReplyDeleteThese pathetic people that we call our politicians need to get their ass kicked and we should put them in our shoes for one day and see how they can handle it. They are all a bunch of pompous ass
ReplyDeletesons of bitches that will rot in hell for NOT
HELPING US
I WISH I COULD LINE THEM ALL UP AND SHOOT THEM ALL!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHere is a tale for you 99ers…
ReplyDeleteThere lies a homeless woman on a grate in the street to keep warm. She is a 99er. She needs food, shelter and medical attention.
I say to a stranger walking next to me; “Give me one hundred dollars or I will hurt you”. I take the money and buy the homeless 99er food and medicine. If I did this I would be convicted of a crime – theft.
The next day a congressman says to me give me one hundred dollars for the homeless 99er or I will imprison you – this is legal.
I challenge anyone to tell me the difference. Stop the thievery.
Your little tale there, anonymous, is about the rule of LAW.
ReplyDeleteAs citizens of the United States, we have elected representatives which pass laws legalizing activities such as taxes.
As an individual citizen, you can't just make up a law and carry it forth on your own, as the case of you 'robbing' someone.
You've been listening to too much Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. Your mind is warped.
So, you get your friends to agree with you to rob one person and give it to another and that makes it ok. We see how you think, you just don't have enough members in your gang.
ReplyDeleteThe rule of law that you mention is the very thing you wish to violate. The constitution, the SUPREME LAW of this land makes absolutely no provision to steal from one person and distribute the plunder to another.
The tier V as currently written only includes states that have an unemployment rate of 7.5% or above. What about the over 55 people who can't get hired that have been out of work for over a year. The Tier V should be written to include a time out of work not an unemployment rate.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all the anonymous person is Bill! He frequents these sites because he is psycho and has no life! He keeps referring to 99ers as thieves.
ReplyDeleteSecond of all they do not take $100 from his pay or anyone else's for unemployment, everybody pays into it out of their own paychecks. Now as far as an extension, well if there were jobs it wouldn't be needed. Additionally, there is stimulus money that could be used for this.
The government that he says we are pushing to steal from him are stealing money for salary raises and bailing out corporate rats! That money was tax payers money and we had no say over that either; however, those bailed out were in bad situations through their own wrond doing unlike the 99ers.
Also those fat cats may have lost money, but they did not lose their homes, cars, and children which is happening to 99ers. I would say the 99er situation is dire, not vice-versa.
Let's not forget 99ers are working class citizens, many who have worked 30-40+ years paying taxes, social security, and unemployment. All of those years, they were fortunate enough not to use unemployment insurance, but now they are...what's the problem? If they can't collect now, then when?
I have said this before and will say it again, to all those working people who feel that 99ers don't deserve a chance to feed their children or have a roof over their head when their jobs were ripped out right from under them, GO SEE THE WIZARD FOR A HEART AND A F%#KING BRAIN!!!!
Your slandering commentary is not helping the 99ers get jobs so if you are not a part of the solution you are a part of the problem. It's no wonder many companies are posting "Unemployed need not apply!" I say we sue these people for slander! They are destroying our reputation; hence, hindering our employment opportunities.
We need jobs now and have since years ago, but no one is working on making this happen! There are no effective hiring incentives and no one is spending anymore because they see that if they lose their job they will catch h*ll trying to get help! And those of us who are unemployed have nothing to spend, especially the 99ers because we ran out of benefits 5 LONG months ago.
I guess that blow the theory that unemployed are holding out or not looking for work because they have benefits coming in, huh????
Are Americans so damn stupid that they really believe that 99ers would risk their homes, cars, savings, and children to just wait around for a unemployment check that is 1/3 of what they used to make? If so, then why would we not take a job for that amount???? It seems the excuses are as ridiculous and idiotic as the people spewing them out!!!!
These people who have nothing positive to say are stupid in thinking that their jobs are safe and/or that the Republicans give a rats a$$ about them. The Republicans will do the same to them when they lose their jobs, and they will lose their jobs especially the ones using company time and equipment to argue with the 99ers on a daily basis.
GO BACK TO WORK, YOU JERKS! YOU ARE THE SAME AS THE OBSTRUCTIONISTS IN THE SENATE. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU SO WHY ARE YOU CONTINUOUSLY TRYING TO STOP PEOPLE FROM EATING AND HAVING SOMEWHERE TO LIVE WHILE THEY CONTINUE SEARCHING FOR WORK??????????????
I got caught stealing cans from my neighbors recycle bin before trash day. I'm desperate, broke, and out of benefits. Today they won't talk to me or my mother, sux.
ReplyDeleteAnyone who thinks the 99ers are lazy is not over 50 and out looking for a job. It seems no one values experience and work ethic anymore, these corporations would rather hire two 25yr olds for half the price, even they don't know half what a more "experienced" worker does. Never in my life have I not been able to find a job until now. It's dreadly out there!!
ReplyDeleteA movement has already been started. Leaders like Rob G. Michael Thorton, Paladette, Clancy on Twitter, Wendy, UWAG (Underemployed Workers Action Group), Cindy P., Monica RW (me) and many others are active in the 99ers movement. I do believe we need to start a Political Action Group (similar to the Tea Party) and will pass the word.
ReplyDeleteBy the way....the Jobs, Justice and Peace Rally is the first step in this direction. Check out the details of this rally here:
http://www.examiner.com/job-search-in-detroit/rev-jesse-jackson-jobs-justice-and-peace-rally-bus-tour-stops-by-ypsilanti-mi
I AM ASHAMED OF MY COUNRTY AND THE GREED THAT IT HAS DISPLAYED FROM OUR WHITE HOUSE OFFICIALS ESPECIALLY NANCY PELOSI…SHE CANNOT COMPREHEND WHAT IT IS LIKE NOT TO HAVE A PAYCHECK I WOULD LIKE TO CUT HER PAYCHECK TODAY AND LET US SEE HOW LONG SHE LAST WITH A ZERO INCOME…DOESN’T SHE KNOW THAT ANY WORKING AMERICAN WOULD RATHER WORK INSTEAD OF COLLECTING UNEMPLOYMENT YOU MAKE MORE MONEY WORKING THAN COLLECTING DO THE MATH…BUT THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH JOBS OUT THERE FOR ALL THAT NEED ONE UNEMPLOYMENT KEEPS PEOPLE A FLOAT OF BECOMING HOMELESS….HAS THE WHITE HOUSE EVER HAD THEIR PHONE, WATER AND ELECTRICITY CUT OFF AND THEN TO CONNECT IT YOU NEED CONNECTION FEES WHCIH ARE OUTRAGEOUS SO YOU ARE STUCK IN A BIGGER RUT……HAS CONGRESS EVER BEEN SHUT OUT OF THEIR HOME WITH ALL OF HER BELONGINGS INSIDE I WISH CONGRESS WOULD EXPERIENCE THIS AWFUL HURT EVERYTHING YOU WORKED FOR IS GONE... THIS TYPE OF HUMILIATION IS DEVASTING TO THE HUMAN MIND AND CULTURE……NANCY PELOSI REALLY NEEDS TO EXPERIENCE THIS LIFE CHANGEING EVENT AND I BELIEVE THAT ONE DAY SHE WILL BECAUSE WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND…YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF WITH THE WAY YOU ARE TREATING AMERICAN BORN CITIZENS WHO HAVE WORKED AND FOUGHT FOR THEIR COUNTRY ALL THESE YEARS……GET OFF YOUR HIGH HORSE AND EGO HELP
ReplyDeleteYOUR CITIZENS WITH A TEIR V UNEMPLOYMENT EXTENSION WE HELP FOREIGN COUNTRIES WHAT ARE WE ORPHANS!!!!!
To the man with the "tale"...
ReplyDeleteNobody is being robbed here. You are not speaking of people who have been living on welfare, you are talking about people who have worked for a living for years if not decades. We have paid in to this system for decades. You are not speaking to teenagers who have only worked at the mall. You are speaking to many professionals, people who have paid their fair share. Quit trying to justify your position by calling 99ers lazy or criminals. Maybe it will take you losing your job for you to open your mind, not just your mouth.
I get tired of hearing people say that they have "payed into the system" for years. Half the population doesn't even pay taxes. Sure, taxes come out of their paychecks... But come tax time they get a big "refund" check for four times the amount they paid in. My wife and I paid in thousands of dollars in taxes last year, we got a refund of fifty bucks. People like she and I truly "pay into" the system.
ReplyDeleteJust who is half the population that is not paying taxes??? And when people talk about paying into the system, they are referring to the unemployment fund. And not everyone gets a big refund.
ReplyDeleteCommon working people, that have taxes deducted from their paychecks. And I thought that employers paid the unemployment fund. After the standard 26 weeks, the government starts picking up the tab.. with I'm assuming taxpayers money. (or future taxpayers money) And yes, quite a few people get large checks at tax time, much more than they actually paid in.
ReplyDeleteKeep writing the white house, congressman, etc, let them know we need it and need it now.
ReplyDelete"Taxpayer" comments have a trollish whiff to them.
ReplyDeleteHm.
There are millions of people who are the WORKING POOR who pay taxes and still can't put food on the table. How stupid are the "taxpayers are paying for those living off big fat UI checks" comments,.. very stupid and lame because millions of unemployed are taxpayers.
Try again, trolls.
One thing for sure you cant count on family for hard times seems like the greed has struck them as well.Must have been nice to have a 200 dollar a month mortage.Im an unnemployed electrician and i have never did this i dont know how many homes i have wired and how many comercial buildings i have worked on.Yet cant afford to own a home or own a business. No children yet but i will be the last of them because of this. Also im tired of wiring buildings for the RICH , i will pump gas let the illegal imagrants do the wiring.
ReplyDeleteMy question is this when is this bill going to be submitted...?
ReplyDeleteThe solution to this economic mess is simple. End all government welfare and entitlement programs. End the minimum wage law. Increase police patrols to combat theft and crime. Set up more tent city jails (like Sheriff Joe) to house the people who turn to crime when their entitlement programs are cutoff. Have our military go on the offense against anyone that shows a hint of aggression to us. Prosperity will follow guaranteed.
ReplyDeleteNot finding employment affects the entire country.
ReplyDeleteNot having food or shelter affects not only the unemployed, but the entire community.
Losing homes to foreclosure not only hurts the evicted, but devalues entire neighborhoods.
Not having UI places families in danger, stresses entitlement programs and hurts local businesses as demands for products/services fall.
At this point, even those opposed to UI, can contribute intelligently instead of wasting bandwidth with suggestions that even they think is drivel.
The problem with this economy is not only lack of jobs, but perception. Fear promotes spending cuts, promotes lay-offs, promotes consumer pull -back, promotes deflation, promotes more lay offs.
There have to be viable solutions, now.
I will be a 99er next month. I would love to go on a rally to Washington, but like me, most of the unemployed don't have or can't afford to spend the money to travel there. Something needs to be done, so many people are homeless, I could next if I don't find a job soon! So much bickering and it's the PEOPLE that are suffering, us Americans! Recession... more like a Depression! I noticed also while I'm looking for work that the pay scale for work has gone down...not many descent paying jobs out there. So way is that going down and the cost of food, gas, and rent are going up?! They need to do something quick...Americans need help!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a stupid self serving news article this is. I love the statement " The 99ers are a strong-willed group of individuals. It’s something that is very commendable. After all, they have to fight for what they think is right, as nothing will just be handed to them." Do you think maybe they should quit looking for additional handouts and, if you're so strong willed, find a damn job and get back to work. Glen Beck has it right. You people should be ashamed. Stop taking money from us who are contributing to this country. Try giving back for a change.
ReplyDeleteTo the above poster: well said, well said.
ReplyDeleteI know just where we can find jobs we all saw last wk unemployment numbers rose another 500thousand.But hey theres plenty of jobs out there thats right. All we have to do is go to these companys where all hard working idoits work find out what the companys paying there workers and say i will do that job for 3/4s of the money your paying that guy.Its still better than min wage and i would also tell them you dont have to pay me health in.you dont even have to pay me while im training. That way we can work and they can be unemployed then we can hear them whine.Im deadly serious about this i think these companys being as bottom line concerned as they are would go for this in a heartbeat.but dont you folks worry theres millions of fast food jobs out there
ReplyDeleteYou have all said it all...there is nothing else left to say...just remember IF ANYONE VOTES FOR EVEN ONE INCUMBENT IN THE UPCOMING ELECTION...SHAME ON YOU, SHAME ON YOU...Not one of the members of CONGRESS or THE SENATE or even THE PRESIDENCY if this was a presidential election year...should be RE-ELECTED EVER...this is a total shame on this fine country...a terrible shame...and these are the disgusting individuals we have voted into office...OUT WITH ALL OF THEM. They really have done nothing for us and like everyone else I only wish them to have the same bad fortune that we have had and lose their jobs and not be able to get another one. It is amazing how they can skew the numbers in their favor by not counting the 4 to 8 million of us who have reached the end of our benefits to not even be counted any longer in the unemployment numbers...Good luck to us all...We really need it.
ReplyDeleteI gotta go take a Big Shit after reading all this
ReplyDeleteMe to post 12:54am.
ReplyDeleteProblem is, yesterday I ate an entire box of crayons and I have been shitting rainbows ever since
Well, "shitting rainbows," way to contribute to a thread. You obviously have a colorful mind.
ReplyDeleteYour sorta right but the Rainbows did'nt come out of my mind. No more crayons for me.
ReplyDeleteDam, I thought this article was about unemployment. Anyway all this about voting out the Republicans in November, hows that going to work when they are wining the Primaries?
ReplyDeleteThey should be thrown out now.
YES SIR, I WOULD RALLY IN A HEART BEAT IF IT WAS IM MY CITY. MAJORITY OF UMEMPLOYED PEOPLE DON'T HAVE THE FUNDS TO TRAVEL TO WASHINGTON OR ANY OTHER STATE TO RALLY..MY SUJECTION WOULD BE IF WE CAN SOMEHOW UNITED IN EVERY STATE AND DO IT, I THINK THE OUTCOME WILL BE MORE BENIFICIAL FOR ALOT OF UMEMPLOYED PERSON
ReplyDeleteI ready to rally. They dont understand how hard up everyone is right now but then again why would they they are using taxpayers moneys for their big lunches the cars they drive all the money they make and taking care of all the illigal immigrants who dont have to pay why the americans suffer. They say go get food stamps and stuff like that. Hell they dont want to give them. They need to extend it so so many people are not out on the street I jus wonder if they sleep well at night in all there big nice fancy houses knowing the world is going to hell and they allowing it to happen.
ReplyDelete"Richard from Ohio" here:
ReplyDeleteA series of local rallies might be a good idea if properly coordinated and done to put our best foot forward. It doesn't have to be fancy -- just well-executed.
Also, I am now pressing for a new idea: to see if a Tier V (or and extension of Tier IV) can be done via *Executive Order*. -- There is sufficient money for it under the ARRA funds.
The reason is pretty straightforward. The way Congress is going and with an anticipated stonewalling on it by the GOP, it will be months before the 99ers get any help. Any existing bill probably won't pass before late in October and then the states would have to gear up to get the benefits out. So, that means mid-to late November or later.
I don't know about the other 99ers, but I'm not going to make it that long without a job or UI (ran out at end of March). So, I suggest to keep writing your Sens and Reps and the leadership, as well as to the White House and ask specifically for an E.O. It could happen in a few weeks instead of a few months if the WH would have the will to act.
These guys all claim to be for it. They need to be pressed to deliver. People need help *Now*!!!
As for a possible rally date, how about Sept. 22, the first day of autumn? It's a Wednesday. Please respond back here with thoughts on the subject.
** Tier V to Stay Alive! **
To the 99ers and long-term U/E workers: Be well and stay strong!
^^^^^
P.S. -- Glenn Beck can bite me! (Did anyone here see the BS he said about the 99ers?)
