Tony LaRussa at Glenn Beck Rally Creates Controversy

Tony LaRussa at the Glenn Beck Rally creates controversy.  Tony LaRussa, the manager for the St. Louis Cardinals was present at the Glenn Beck "Restoring Honor" rally.  He was asked to present the Hope Award to Cardinal Albert Pujols.

Pujols was being honored for his charity work, and the "Hope Award" was a wonderful distinction.  You can see Pujols accept his award here.

Of the controversy that ensued LaRussa's attendance at the event, he said “It was beyond gratifying. I was inspired. There were a lot of things that inspired me. It was more religious, much more religious (than political)  I’ll raise money for those folks anytime. Albert got a legitimate award I was asked to introduce. I don’t see the problem.”

They noted that what they saw at the rally was not political, but inspirational.  The front office of the Cardinals received many calls protesting his attendance, as did an animal rescue charity that he works with. Still yet, it doesn't appear as if Tony LaRussa regrets his decision to attend the rally at all.

  4. Many Thanks, Tony. I remember Him when he
was with the Iowa Oaks. He was a winner then,
and a winner now. We need people like that.

  7. Whats this? Another provocative news story about nothing?

I see quite a few negative "news" articles about the rally, and yet, not one about the "other" rally that happened that day.
no wonder the big news groups are tanking in favor of the ever growing local blogs

  8. People of faith apparently have no right to free speech? Who are these critics? Don't they believe in the First Amendment?

  9. Predictably, it seems that the liberal Media is falling all over themselves trying to put a negative spin on the Restore Honor Rally. How about a neutral journalistic approach for a change.....

  10. Really?? THIS IS A STORY??? Where are the Animal RIghts folks on Michael Vick???? Come ON!

  11. I think most people are angry because Glenn Beck is a complete selfish hypocrite. He uses his show as a scare tactic to scare people into voting one or the other by saying if you don't do this...america will end tomorrow. Luckily we've managed to make it a year and half into Obama's presidency without the apocalypse. But damn is he great at selling coins for GoldLine.

  12. An animal rescue charity objected to him being there? Um, I seriously doubt the charity itself was involved. Otherwise the reporter should REPORT what charity it was. Some global warming believer more than likely was the culprit. Shame on the so-called journalist. And they wonder why papers are dying.

  13. Americans need to wake up the fact that Beck is simply another opinion pushing charlatan. He does not possess a single ounce of journalistic integrity, he has no qualifications and he is definitely not conservative. But then, what can anyone expect from someone who can't find anything filthier than their own personal reflection. Since people like Beck cannot exist on the basis of any personal merits, they survive by puting others down with lies and half truths in order to feel good about themselves. The truth about Beck is that he a dry mormon alcoholic who never got the counseling required by alcoholics. He flippantly throws around Christian terms like "God", "Jesus", "Holy Spirit" as well as voices of other so called "Spirit Powers" on his radio talk show. Beck is a mormon in active standing with the mormon church and is not a Christian. Mormonism teaches many gods, that the god of the earth was once a man who attained godhood status and that Jesus Christ and Satan were brothers. Because Beck does not possess a single ounce of journalistic integrity, he is the perfect abortion poster child for Fox Network. The people who love what Beck says are no different than the impressionable sheep who loved every speech made by Adolph Hitler in his early years when he brought Germany into an era of economic prosperity. These same sheep (like the ones who listen to and believe the lies of Beck) also blindly followed Hitler into one of the darkest chapters of world history. Beck and the Fox Network both cater to the same lowest common denominator of demagogery. The man would not know the first thing about God as he is a mormon. Someone should ask him which of the many mormon gods he kept talking about during his argument with himself on Saturday. Unfortunately, these teabaggers out there do not realize that Beck is talking about a different god than that of Christianity, Judaism or Islam.

  14. As a die-hard Cincinnati Reds fan, I salute Tony LaRussa and Albert Pujols for their achievements both on and off the field and for taking part in the rally on Saturday. Thank you for being much needed role models for our young people and the whole nation.

  15. We need more men who will stand up for what is honorable! Maybe people needed to listen to the message of the rally--HONOR! Go LaRussa and Pujol!!

  16. You can say anything when using god as a point of reference. Facts come from proof not belief. Something Beck and Fox news choose to edit to fit their fear campaign.

  19. I can't believe that people actually called in to protest Tony LaRussa's attendance at the Rally.

Tony LaRussa gave Albert Pujol the "HOPE" Award for his charity work. Money raised at the event is going to the Special Operations Warrior Fund. The Special Operations Warrior Foundation provides full scholarship grants and educational and family counseling to the surviving children of special operations personnel who die in operational or training missions and immediate financial assistance to severely wounded special operations personnel and their families.

I am so proud of Tony and Albert. May God Bless You Both!

  25. For these rich ballplayers, etc., the rally and its supporters is just about less taxes.

  26. I doubt that Mr. LaRussa knows what a jackass Beck is.
Beck is either hate-mongering or fake-sobbing.
Guaranteed most of these kool-aide sheep are just bigots.
    Scary stuff.

  27. What Beck has done is very simple he has stepped in where the US Government has failed.

This event Saturday did one thing, help children of SOF fallen soldiers. Yet even with all your negativity and phony race baiting you are the ones that come up big on the loser list. Because again you are on the wrong side of the issue. And the very last group of people I would want to be on the wrong side of are the folks who know what honor means.

This event was to benefit the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. You may not know this group but The Special Operations Warrior Foundation provides full scholarship grants and educational and family counseling to the surviving children of special operations personnel who die in operational or training missions and immediate financial assistance to severely wounded special operations personnel and their families.

This event yesterday allowed Beck to raise more than 5,000,000.00 dollars for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. Now with more than 560 children fatherless 5 million won't go far and there is more to do. How about you help out and donate to their cause. That would be the honorable thing to do.

  28. Glenn Beck sucks, but LaRussa is the Cardinal's Manager and that's the extent of it. I don't care if he hangs out with Glenn Beck, Keith Olbermann or freakin' Osama Bin Laden. Just get the Cardinals back on track for crying out loud!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Luckily he has never promoted racism and distain for those who disagree. Only promotes love and peace, except for all those comments he is attempting to amend. Free speech may allow Beck to spew evil for his own gain, but don't cry and hide when people express their freedom of speech in response. Palin this includes you, Hypocrite. Also, How do you question with boldness. Does it require a costume, fireworks, or SELF PROMOTION.

  30. Beck is an opportunistic fool with a touch of dramatic flair--just enough talent to get gullible, uninformed people to buy his bullsheet.

Sad statement about our country. And Fox News? The greatest scam in the history of broadcast propaganda. Blatantly biased, and yet continuing to trumpet "fair and balanced," to its minions.

Rupert Murdoch is one sly Fox. Stocking the Fox broadcast network with shows that send the Christian right into a dither, and then talking out of the Jesus side of his mouth on Fox News.

As Sinclair Lewis said 'When fascism comes to America, it will come wrapped in the flag and waving a cross,' and it will be promoted like hell on Fox News.

  31. Murdoch went to court and won, the right to put untrue information on his network. This is why time slots are blocked off for opinion. Opinion slots are primetime and they dont tell people its opinion so the generations that believe what is on tv is always true, believe opinions as fact.
IT'S SAD WHEN GERALDO IS YOUR MOST CREDIBLE "REPORTER".

  32. look i believe glenn beck is a pretty awful person, but i don't understand why this is a big deal?

besides, i remember reading an espn article 2 years ago that said albert pujols was a big suppporter of obama. i don't see the controversy. even if it was political, people have the right to be political.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I wish I could have been there!Glenn Beck encouraged me to get back to God and prayer.

Fox reports the news. Period. It is whatCNN, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, DON"T report that is sad! They have to prop obama up because he is the worst President-EVER!
Beck did a great thing on saturday!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Yet another person who is to ignorant to do the research to find the truth. Fox reports the news others won't? Does the name Saudi Prince al-Waleed bin Talal mean anything to you. of course not, you watch fox and they don't want you to know the truth. SELECTIVE NEWS NETWORK ! Worst president? Even though in Reagens second year unemployment was higher than Barcks (10.8 %), reagonomics, star wars (no wasted money there). For Bush Jr's Legacy, even the right won't discuss his legacy. (America attacked, 2 wars, killed the economy by overspending on defense, declaring victory a few years to early). But he did clear that brush, finally.

  35. One one level, it's hard not to admire the cynical genius of Rupert Murdoch. He is able to
profit from both sides of the culture war, from the perverted humor of Family Guy to the Bible-thumping moralism of Beck and O'Reilly. I still
rememeber when Glenn Beck got into a ridiculous spat with James Cameron ober global warming. The
host of a Fox news show and the director of a billion-dollar Fox movie. I'm sure Murdoch and his Saudi homeboy Prince Alwaleed laugh all the way to the bank.

    ReplyDelete
  36. LaRussa is not a man of character! He pretends he did not know McGwire was using roids with the A's but suspected Canseco. He has to know Pujols is dirty too! He is a drunk driver! Just because someone has a good record in sports does not make him a good man!
