A 99er Tier 5 Benefit Unemployment Extension Update: 22 September Tier 5 Day?

A 99er Tier 5 unemployment extension update is needed about daily, because the way I see it - the main stream media is paying more attention to the circus that is Capital Hill than to those who seek change. Although not too much information is available out there, one news article (available here) indicates that today, September 22, is "Tier 5 Day"

It states “Our coalition under the banner of The American 99ers’ Union, has decided that the best way to convince the Senate to vote The Americans Want To Work Act into law is to ask all of our members to Take Action on Wednesday, September 22, 2010.”

Of course, there's a lot going on around Capital Hill. The Defense Act bill was not passed and therefore the "Don't Ask Don't Tell" legislation was not repealed. In addition the DREAM Act hopes have been squashed as well. Given that Congress cannot agree on even a Defense related bill, why would we ever imagine that the Tier 5 would get passed without the least bit of a fight.

The "Americans Want to Work Act" proposed by Debbie Stabenow would give benefits needed for the survival of Americans.

  1. A FREE country does not force one person to pay another person’s bills.

Lets return America to the LAND OF THE FREE AND THE HOME OF THE BRAVE. All of these entitlement and bailout programs are making it more the HOME OF THE FEE AND LAND OF THE SLAVE.

Change it back. We the taxpayers say NO MORE.

  2. we paid into unemployment for years idiot, its not a handout.
but they gave big bonus's to the crooks on wallstreet in which by the way,are the reason why we are in this recession in the first place.they gave our money to them!

  5. I'm so sick of hearing comments from folks that are employed that haven't had the stress to look for a job that is what 6 jobs to 1. The fear of not providing food and clothing for their children. Karma is all I gotta say...Once your unemployed let's see how you feel about benefits.

  6. It is unemployment insurance. Insurance, no different than any other paid half by employees and half by employers. The states spent the money each year on other things, so the fed needed to pick it up. Go after the government officials that wasted the insurance money, not the worker that paid into it. Get your facts before you comment.

  7. Look at the unemployment rate! There are no jobs! It would be inhumane to stop unemployment benefits for those who are out of work through no fault of their own. Wall Street And Bush created this mess!

This is were Congress and Media seem to have warped priorities. If this issue is the urgent one to deal with and vote on vs tier 5 and so many other more urgent issues Congress has to go. The Media once again is neglecting to tell the 99ers story and put pressure in Congress to help. We have a sad country when Congress continues to show us how little they care about Americans in need. The gay issue in the military should not be any priority now. Too many more important issues if Americans are not to grow the homeless by millions.

  9. The American taxpayer is paying for these bailouts (not "insurance" after about 26 weeks, look it up) and we are DONE. The primaries are evidence that we are going to stand together to stop this welfare, force-the-taxpayer-to-pay-my-bills mindset. NO MORE.

  10. What gives you the idea that you can demand a government check for no work? This is possibly one of the greatest scams in history.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Exactly why the employed and unemployed are both in this mess. As you stated
"A FREE country does not force one person to pay another person’s bills"
What do you think all these taxes are vs. the senates payscale and lavish partys? Do you believe your money is spent wisely by the government? We work hard so they can live easy.
Do you think sitting on a panel to pass a bill is more difficult or labor intense than the standard job held by middle class. If the middle class are the bread and butter of this country, who are the steak and potatoes?
    Another statement
"Lets return America to the LAND OF THE FREE AND THE HOME OF THE BRAVE"
Why are ex military facing such high unemployment since they are the ones who have defended this country so we can call it the brave? What are civilians doing thats brave? Waiting for the good life? Turning our heads? Complaining?
The brave are now the ones forced to be brave on the streets with their family looking for a legal job hopeing to afford some bread and maybe some butter while the ones in which we trusted with the economy eat their steak and potatoes on a private jet on yet another vacation.
    I agree with you.
What are we the tax payers done with? I have taxes come out of my check no matter how the government decides to spend it. I would rather it be towards the people of this country who need it than another vacation home for a senator or to help another country with billions of tax dollars because they our "investors" need a little help. Its up to you; You may be the kind of person who could care less about a family living out of there car. Did you have a good 401K? If you did its gone now huh.... What will you do when your not what "their" looking for. Ive seen enough to be very gratefull to have a job. But I have been there before, and it really sucks when our country sends money by the BILLIONS to other countries before they spend it on their own. Your taxes will either go there, or we can help our own. Either way, the same amount will come from our checks.

  12. Look, charity is an excellent and noble thing. We are morally obligated to help our fellow man but that is not what I am talking about.

What I am against is being forced to give to charity.

If I am walking down the street and see a homeless 99er lying on a grate and I stick a gun in your face and say give me $100 so I can go and get food and clothes for that 99er lying on the grate. I would go to jail.

Charity is good. Forced charity is ROBBERY.

  14. The way I look at it is if unemployment isn't extended then the workers in the line now will be the ones crying when the economy collapses totally and we'll all be in the soup line. People understand this is a political move to keep the democrats agenda cranking. Have faith try and continue to pay down any and all debts if possible. Stay in good faith and God will protect 99ers and others approaching.

  15. I am currently unemployed, the job market is not very promising. You also cannot force an employer to hire you, so when all is said and done, there simply aren't enough jobs to go around for those seeking them. Unemployment benefits help the unemployed to at least continue in survival mode until this economy starts to tun around. Vote to help americans who need help, Stop the wasteful Bailouts and Foriegn Aid.
We can be stronger as a country when we take care of our own first!
Do the right thing for as long as it takes to get things on the right track.

you fucking assholes that think unemployment insurance is charity need to walk in the shoes of life sometime and see how the real world is. first of all i never asked any of you assholes for money, all i want is a job to provide for my family, but since there are no fucking jobs right now i want the money back that i paid into for thirty fucking years unemployment insurance. and if the dickhead senators and congressman dont want to give me my money back they will be flying on thier private jets while running out of fuel because they will no longer be senators and congressman because they will be voted out of office. im so tired of people acting like they are giving me a handout. you aint giving me shit. i am getting the money back that i paid into, just like auto insurance, if you have an accident, it pays for both vehicles to get fixed, so shut the fuck up.

  17. Ok, I'm so sick of hearing people saying "I've paid into unemployment all these years, blah blah blah"... Why? Because the employer pays it once a year to federal government (FUTA) and the employer pays the state quarterly!

And for the record, I'm an exhaustee of UI benefits.

  21. First of all,Unemployment is not a Hand out !
The 1970 High unemployment extension Law was
put into place at times of High Unemployment
in this Country. There is no Limit for the amount of extensions that the Emergency Uemployment,Act covers. It can be triggered
by High unemployment over 6.5% ! The Government
did not create a Charity ! This is the Law that
Governs the States with High Unemployment !
This was enacted to keep a social society from
total collapse,as the Great Depression showed
from 1930 until 1937. It took 33 years to pass
the Law from 1937 but,it was passed. Americans
    unemployed are protected,from financial hardship
in the event of High Unemployment. If any one wants to re write the Law, then run for Senate
and get elected and try to change it. America
is not perfect but it's all we have. Europe has
4 years of unemployment due to ,high rate of
unemployment. The tax rate is almost 50 % and
they help people get retrained,to get a new
career if their positions have been outsourced.
This is the protection that America Has ! Unemployment extensions when unemployment is high !Tier 5 will pass in November ! The unemployment rate will not drop to 6.5% in 45
    days.

    ReplyDelete
  22. If you are currently working, remember this, at any given time your employment may result in a Layoff. It does not matter how long you worked for your company or even how great of a job you did, once you are on the outside looking in you will then realize how it really is out there.
Hopefully you will find new work, if not, then you also will become a 99er.
Once becoming a 99er with no prospects of finding any employment, well, good luck, because you don't want a Tier 5, so if that day becomes reality for you, then at least you got what you wanted.....or did you?

Unemployment benefits need to continue until this mess is cleaned up.

Once again get real! we can't all be Prostitutes working under the tables of America!

  29. What is the matter with people. We are all in this together. I am a 99er and I have worked all my life just like the next person and maybe you were lucky, yes, lucky enough to keep your job. There are no jobs out there, believe me. I send out resume after resume with the same results each time, nothing. This country never turned it's back on anyone in need wheather it was a natural disater or some other kind of help. Everything is caving in on us and there is no help out there without this tier 5 and then we have our fellow americans calling us names, accusing us wanting hand outs, sitting home doing drugs etc. Where is the unity that we usually share when there is a disaster or problem anywhere in the world. Don't hear the tax payers crying then about the good old USA spending money to help out. Well there is a disaster at home right now and all I hear are people crying about helping us. Now not only our country has turned its back on us but our fellow americans as well. I am losing everything that I have worked so hard for all my life...even my gas is being turned off for non payment and who knows what I will lose tomorrow. So in a nutshell, our country, our president, and fellow americans have turned their backs on us.

people will wake up and have a job. When idiots
like you comment on the deficit. If your so
worried pay an extra 10 % out of your pay check
    to the Government.
Remember how the Government spent 1 Trillion
on a 10 year war.Wow how many jobs could that

  37. It does not matter if Bush screwed this economy up, Obama begged the american people for the job, now its time to man up and stop whinning about how someone else did this or that, do your job Obama if you can.
Obama wanted health care reform, he got his way, now what about Tier 5 Obama? Well, I guess Obama doesn't care, have not seen him twisting any arms to help the unemployed.
Democrats can do the same thing for Tier 5 as they did for health care reform, Right????
Wrong the Democrats really don't care, just like the Replicans don't either.

  38. After 99 weeks its a handout--not insurance. Trust me we the taxpayers are done.

Really. Okay then Congress provides handouts by the billions to other countries. So shouldn't we cut that out first before not helping long term unemployed? If all handouts end find then justification to not help 99ers. Yet clearly Congress gives handouts to a lot more then just unemployed. When handouts end to foreign countries and Americans come first then say stop the handouts as you call tier 5. When we keep paying for defense budget/waste/handouts then talk of not helping unemployed longer. When porks billions stop being tacked onto bills etc etc. We seem to help victims of disasters anywhere in the world and think it is okay to waste 100s of billion on all areas of spending. The long term unemployed are victims of a man made disaster caused by Wallstreet and Congress greed. So we should help 99ers who numbers will grow by millions until it ends. One job for every 5 to 6 unemployed is why it has not ended and why 99ers numbers growing. 100s of billions used on a stimulus that has done nothing to lower UI. Simple math to know the reason when not enough jobs created vs what Wallstreet cost us the last few years we need to help unemployed long term numbers growing with no near term end.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Math lesson:

    one million = 1,000,000
    one billion = 1,000,000,000

    the 787 billion= 787,000,000,000

$400,000,000,000 where the hell is it and what the hell will it be spent on?????

They only care about themselves and do not care about The Little People in America who pay their Salaries each and every year. Their maybe 10 people in Congress and 10 people in the House that care about the 99ers but, that doesn't help us out. The writing is on the wall: Tier 5 will never be passed.

But yet there are "updates" every single day from this site giving idiots false ideas and false hopes.

IT WILL NEVER PASS!!! What else needs to be said?

And for people who say it isn't a handout: Get real. Of course it is. You paid taxes to pay for someone else to get a handout and now that you need one there are fewer workers to pay for handouts.

If it isn't a handout of taxpayer money earned by others, what exactly is it? Stop lying to others and stop lying to yourself.

Stop visiting this "new blog" The last 5 articles about the plight of the 99ers have been nothing more than editorials, and bad ones at that !

There is no news here. This site only writes a few paragraphs daily stating what we already know to drive traffic here.

  53. You getting something that you didn't earn = Handout.

It doesn't matter that you "paid taxes" when you had a job. A handout is a handout.

The way the budget works, they tax you to give a handout to someone else who isn't employed. Then when you lose a job, you rely on the taxed to give you a handout.

Ignore simple, solid truths if you want but it isn't going to get you a freaking job.

I truly suggest most the people here demanding a handout just to go hang themselves immediately. Problem solved without government intervention.

  55. Some people are just plain stupid!!!! Unemployment is not a handout!!! You dummies make it seem like us unemployed people are just sitting around watching TV just waiting for the government to extend unemployment!!! So not the case, in Philadelphia yesterday over 5,000 people attended a job fair and over 3,000 were turned away becuase it was simply no room and the job fair was over at 3pm. People want to work!!! Unemployment doesn't pay much...I much rather work but there are NO JOBS!!!!!! And yes I paid into unemployment since I was 16, No I don't think that I should recieve benefits forever, but people are loosing their homes, children are straving, families are falling apart...No parent can look at their child and say "oh you can't eat tonight because there are no jobs, no unemployment extensions, no help from our fellow americans and leaders." For all of you who are saying this is handouts, fuck you!!! I hope you are never in us 99er's situations!!!

I pitty everyone out there writing dumb a** crap about handouts and the deficit and just making fools of themselves on getting high and mighty off others misery because we all no theres no way you have any friends or family out there anywhere because if you did you wouldnt be saying anything cus if you had any of that then you would probly now someone close that has went through hell and back trying to survive while finding a job.

Everyone who is against the 99ers should meet me, and answer my questions, like if there isnt enough jobs to hire everyone, what should the people do that get turned down? keep trying? we do everyday but i cant make jobs for my self, so i have to fight the other 20-30 people i see trying to get the same job that i am. This country has turned into a 2 sided debate, the problem is that one side has not lost anything but yet knows everything, it kinda sounds like a young child to me. GROW UP AMERICA!!!! and come live my life, loose your car your house, your job, everything that is dear to you, then go look for a job everyday of the week, then go to a public computer and see people bashing you, i havnt even eaten in two days. and i do not have a roof over my head but im lazy.....

  68. I think the article has good points to make considering Keynes has really yet to be wrong. I see everyday how the economy is affecting Americans, with and without jobs. We need to pay attention to our infrastructure. If not, we lose unity and our ability to perpetuate this great country. Make no mistake Senate- this is a moral issue. 5 years ago I would have said no way I will be unemployed, ever. Now I am asking for help. And following politics.

Why can't the Goverment help us? oh wait I forgot they don't care about us. Haven't they figured out the more people who don't work means they will not be able to collect any more taxes, then they will loose their jobs... hmm might be worth living under a bridge... tax free at least... all I have left is my sence of humor, and it's going too!

It is not the job of the government to give you money or things. The government makes no money of its own. It only takes.

The 99ers seem to hate employers and capitalists in general so they are reaping what they have sowed. They hate money and they are having the privilege of living without it. Think back before the days of the evil white man's system and go live the life you dream of. A tee-pee is not that hard to build, have fun.

The tone of the messages here shows that we're on the verge of open violence in this country. Hopelessness brings about a feeling that with nothing to lose, why not do what is normally unthinkable? I'm looking for the USA to tear itself apart in the near future. There is no sense of community or human compassion any more. The law of the jungle may prevail. I think we've seen the last of the American dream, and the American nightmare is about to appear. I hope I'm wrong. But as someone who may lose everything without the tier 5 extension, I find myself becoming more cold and selfish in my outlook on this country. I used to be an American. Now, I look out only for myself. Damn all governments.

I have lost everything and I now live with a family member who has a job, for now. I enrolled in school full-time to try to get some "marketable skills". 116. Last week went to a job fair 80 miles south of my locaqtion and it was wall to wall people, but most companies were not really interested in actually hiring only collecting resumes for when the economy "turns around".

I also went to another job fair today and best guess at total attendance would be 3,000+. Some companies at the event had lines 15 to 25 people deep while other had fewer than 12. It's frustrating because the company's rep basically said "Thanks for talking to us and I will make sure the hiring manager gets your resume and please go online and fill out an application. We hope to hire by end of the year"

People who say there is no need for a Tier 5 are NOT living in reality! When there is between 300 and 500+ applicants for each position and the company's only call 20 for a interview the odds are not good of receiving an offer. Then there are companies out there that still practice "Unemployed Need Not Apply" Perhaps a solution would be to take the CEO and upper management of the companies that practice this policy out.

  120. well we can't be surprised that all it took was a bunch of pencil pushers to tell the world that "all is well and things are looking up" for Washington to listen to. It just creates more stress for those of us that can't find jobs and don't have any unemployment benefits left to collect. I can tell you that I'm 45 and I recently went for a part time retail job that I was over qualified for. I had to fill out the application online and take a 50 question test about my "morals" and "personal standards." The young (maybe 19 year old girl) that I talked too told me that they would call me about the job---they never called me. She did tell me that it paid minimum wage though. Yeah my mortgage company really "understands" my position. Thank You Senate, Congress and President Obama. Your changes are really working out so well for ALL AMERICANS!

    ReplyDelete
  121. I'm sorry for all of us. There will not be a tier 5 or any other number of tiers. There is not enough money, they have spent it all...yes all the money we paid in for so many years. We need a tier 5 to survive but it's not going to happen. Our fearless leader Obama said that stimulus money would bring jobs but now they don't want to spend it. OBAMA LIED! Unemployment is up, Poverty is up, Uninsured Americans is up, Suisides are up, and this is what...yes, is what the media tells us. 99ers don't want a handout, we want our job and our lifes back. We have a hand out for Obama and the middle finger has a sign of CHANGE and HOPE.
If Obama was a real Commander and Chief he would have this country by the reins and over the top on two years but instead he’s to busy promoting his “Books for Fools” and working on his own agenda not the American people. One thing for sure in two more years “He’s out of there”, Good Riddens!

    ReplyDelete
  122. Ok I was reading alot of the comments and I need to make something clear. Those of us who are on unemployment are paying taxes on the money we are getting, you have the option of having ten percent taken out or pay it all at tax time. So don't tell us we are getting a handout. I don't see people who are driving Escalades and collecting welfare paying taxes, thats a handout. Second thing, some companies are hiring, but here is a newsflash. McDonalds doesn't want an educated, corporate america employee. They want someone still in school so they can pay them crap. Third thing is, I worked in the mortgage industry, the title end of it, if people can't find jobs and a new tier isn't added then guess what, there goes the housing market again and there goes more jobs that get eliminated. A mortgage company is not going to lend to someone who doesn't have a job to refinance their home, in turn, they lose their home. So until you know the facts, shut up and go back to work because you know if your boss sees you typing other stuff and not working you will be sitting in the same place we are.

Perhaps once you've walked a mile in their shoes you will understand the plight of the unemployed.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Shocking to see everyone fighting with one another over the same topic "survival". When will everyone really wake up and see what is really happening? I am sorry to say it but the unemployment is only a portion of what's in front of every single person living in the U.S.A.!

Let me break it down for you...
    1. Unemployment insurance stops
    2. Fellow Americans lose Heath coverage
    3. Homelessness
    4. Depression due to no hope of recovery
    5. Severe illness due to no health coverage
    6. Schools for our youth are dumbing down society due to budget cuts
    7. Blue Collar and Whit Collar classes are reduced to poverty
    8. Self worth for those that are without unemployment benefits, health insurance, proper public education or hope for recovery will most likely parish in one way or another. To name a few: Health issues, suicide, overdose, illegal crime, exposure to the weather, malnutrition and starvation.

Now consider the number of lives in the US. Were over populated and the people who decide how the US will operate are irritated with the public speaking their opinion on bills they want to pass. So the wealthy are fed up and created an agenda of creative proportions. It's as simple, yet as complex, to be a reduction of the US population for reform and regaining control of the country. A hands off approach and a "It's not our fault" Genocide of America's people. After the reduction in population from the reasons listed above, government will restore the system, classes will be re-classed, and those that designed the Agenda (a.k.a. Wealthy) will be able to run America without the interference from before (or should it read, like now?).

But let's allow our media and our House of Represenatives create the interreference so American's won't see what is happening. Oh if you didn't already know it, the same wealthy people that designed the Agenda also control what American's see or read on the news. Go outside the US (excluding Mexico and Canada) and you'll see a different perspective on our media sources narrative of reality in the US.

If you haven't already figured it out from what I've just laid out, lord have mercy. Or if you elect to believe this is a crock of shit or another conspiracy theory to downplay, I'm not hurt by your disbelief in what I've shared.

But if you have just allowed yourself to open your eyes, listed to what is going on in our country and watched the House of Represenatives dancing around important (mind I point out, life altering) decisions. You will see everything falling into place for The Agenda. The only thing is now what? What can we do about it? That is now the unknown... Use the power of this shared knowledge today to build for you and your fellow American's survival tomorrow.

About this unemployment topic...Now let's push to pass the unemplyment extension and try to help fellow American's survive this horrible plan created to reduce population so our voices are less of a nuance to those that decide how we should run as a country.

    ReplyDelete
  130. I have been following these articles and posts about the Tier 5 extension, because I am a 99er myself. My unemployment benefits will run out at the end of November and although I send out resumes every week, no one is going to hire me -- ever -- because I am 62 years old and will be drawing Social Security starting this month. The last unemployment extension that was passed in June expires November 30th. At that point, not only will the 99ers be s--t out of luck, but so will be everyone else on unemployment. There will be NO tiers, NO extended benefits, nothing beyond the 26 weeks that the states provide for basic UIC. How convenient that the mid-term elections happen before November 20th, because you all know Congress will do nothing before the elections to address helping the unemployed. I love my country, but hate our government -- vote ALL the incumbents out of office in November, and let's start over. Maybe some new people will give a damn about us.

    ReplyDelete
  131. You can't say because gov gave money to so and so and bailed others out that then, therefor they owe you. Life doesn't work that way.
That's like saying since others have something more than you that they owe you.
How many tiers do you want? 6? 7? 8?
2 years of UE isn't enough?????
    It can't o on forever.
The government is a mess and a lot needs changed. but 3 or 4 years of unemployment isn't the answer.

Seems to me the same thing happened in Germany around 1940 when people started calling them selfs better than the other!!! They were called the SS and killed millions to prove they were a better people.

Instead, they are heading to the Pawn Shops to pay for their next meal, and keep a roof over their heads. If tier 5 is passed over, America is done.

I will loose my car, be put on the street and what positive credit ive earned will be trashed I have never taken unemployment in my life, till this last year, so it is easy to be a critic till you cant find work and loose all you own--then all of a sudden you view things from a different perspective,so in oct I will face these issues.

  141. If there are any jobs, they are for the Bilinguals.... Spanish speakers. These folks are getting precedence over the rest of us. Businesses do NOT want educated, experienced folks. They want people who will work for peanuts and turn a blind eye when being exploited.
