A 99er Tier 5 Unemployment Extension: No Breaking Update

A 99er Tier 5 unemployment extension would bring a lot of hope to the US. The Americans Want to Work Act, S3706 seeks to add an additional 20 weeks of benefits to the already 99 week availability. Some argue that the extension would do little to change the looming economic woes, but sometimes at least trying something new will go a long way in making things better.

Perhaps part of the problem in our economy is simple greed. Perhaps with a little goodwill and doing things because it's the right thing to do will go a long way in solving our looming situation. Of course, it's hard to try to get that through the minds of politicians, who want to keep lobbyists, wealthy campaign donors, and big businesses happy.

It's because Congress and those on Capital Hill forgot about the backbone of America why there are so many problems. If the politicians would just remember the little guy then I think everything would get back to when America was flourishing financially.

Of course, we have to navigate through the 2010 mid-term elections in order to have the hopes of an unemployment extension. That will pose a significant road block. The unemployment extension fight continues.
