Glenn Beck: Could Restoring Sanity Rally Be as Big as Restoring Honor?

Glenn Beck's restoring honor rally was really big, and it was the talk of political circles for weeks. Now that the rally is over, and the aftermath has waned down a bit, the Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert rally/march is planned for 10/30/10. The "Restoring Sanity Rally" is poised to be as big - or bigger than the Restoring Honor rally. Perhaps Stephen Colbert upped that Ante today when he testified before congress.

Now, if Glenn Beck testified before Congress it would likely be a melodramatic event laden with his signature conspiracy theories and trademark chalkboard. People would laugh, but not because Beck is a comedian, but because his theories are so odd.

However, Colbert evoked roaring laughter from viewers of CSPAN3 as he testified over illegal immigration and migrant workers at Congress. You can see a video of Stephen Colbert here.

With Colbert's recent visit to Capital Hill, and the constant jabbering about the dual rallies there's a distinct possibility that the rally could be even bigger than Beck's.

  3. I went to the Restoring Honor Rally and came away with a substantive message and a mission to improve my life. It will be interesting to see if anything of substance is delivered at this rally. If Colbert's act in front of Congress is of any indication, I highly doubt it. Why? Because Colbert and Friends don't stand for anything but the acceptance of everything.

  4. What do they stand for that is odious to you? Gay rights? Immigrant rights? Helping the less fortunate in general? When you say they stand for "everything" you try to pain them as amoral when in fact they are some of the few with the moral balls to stand up to those who are most corrupt and powerful(really just two words for the same thing)in our country.

  5. Nothing wrong with a fun rally, but there should be serious overtones. Poking fun at wing nuts is OK for cable TV ... but inappropriate strategy to keep USA evolving. I really hope these guys beef up their rally and get some serious speakers. A satirical rally isn't going to inspire anyone or showcase progressive causes.

  6. Satire is more effective than people think. The only problem is that some people don't get it or think that they're actually being serious
