Glenn Beck Rally Attendance around 87,000 as Al Sharpton Rally Continues

Glenn Beck's rally attendance was around 87,000 people according to news reports.  There were hundreds of thousands of people at the National Mall, near the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.  The Al Sharpton rally was also today in Washington DC.

Al Sharpton voiced opposition of Glenn Beck's rally, challenging the venue and date chosen by the Fox News commentator.

Today is an important day in history for the Civil Rights movement, as it is the date where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. stood at the very spot where Glenn Beck's rally took place and told the famed "I have a dream" speech.

Al Sharpton held his own rally, and it only brought in 3,000 to his attendance.

Glenn Beck's rally was about the troops - it was about Restoring Honor to the US.  Al Sharpton's rally was about "restoring the dream" - but I would venture to say that we have achieved the dream.  After all, our president is African American, and opportunities are not available to people any more just on the basis of their skin color.

On the flip side - the beautiful thing about America is that we all have our freedoms.  It's great that Al Sharpton was able to hold his own rally on the date that he so choosed.  However, Dr. Alveda King, MLK's niece, was a speaker at Glenn Beck's rally.

  1. 87000? Haha what a joke! Try at least 500000.

  2. Why do people lie? Look at the pictures...it had to be at least 500,000!

  3. Its a terrible thing when people have to lie about the purpose of the 8/28 rally and the attendance figures of it let alone the comparisons between this and Al Sharptons rally. People there is a right and wrong. Do we have to have another bloody civil war to find our direction or will Gods providence once again show us the way. Either way I know where I stand

  4. Glenn Beck and his ilk are exactly the types that dishonor America with their fear-mongering antics.

  5. Restoring Honor: what is that? Code for restoring white America? How embarrassing.

  6. The left wing libs cannot stand that attendance was half a mil.....they just do not get it. They are so in a state of denial.

  7. The hateful comments from two of the posters above....you know who you are...are typical of the left wing lib mentality,,,,SICK!

  8. Frankly, I felt safer knowing where all the haters were. Bring them all out so we can see what you look like. Now we know. You are an embarrassment to those of us white people who believe in true freedom.

  9. Funny, we were talking today of the liberals being "name callers" and "hatefull." You are showing your true colors.

  10. Restore honor and American Values? Yes please. It's called: Separation of Church and State. Don't bring your faux Christian values and stand on the Lincoln Memorial pretending you're at one with God.

  11. The modern math formula the media is their count times two.

  12. I'm not a big fan of Beck's --I just think he's
A little weird but he certainly has a right to be there
And the things he says might only be interpreted as
As inflammatory by those who don't bother to listen

  13. In response to the comments that make accusations of hatred and racism, does that mean that you think that Alveda King is a hater and a racist?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Well its official from the media - 87,000 in attendance.
Almost as many as the total viewing audience of NBC,MSNBC,CBS,ABC,and CNN combined since the beginning of the year.

  15. Alveda King and Coretta Scott King were divided on many issues. Had MLK lived, I'm sure she would have disagreed with him as well. Shared DNA with MLK does not a saint make.

  16. I was there, with my family. For those of you who are spouting hatred towards those of us who were there....the theme for the day was Faith, Hope and Charity. There was no politics involved. Whether you are Christian, Jew, Muslim or a Wicca you can agree that these are all values we can hope to live by, and would make all our lives easier and the lives of those around us better. Please don't assume you know what was said, based upon a stereotype or a preconcieved notion. Over and over it was said that Dr. King's dream is for ALL Americans. I'm sure that if you were there you actually may have been impressed and maybe even a little bit surprised that it wasn't what you supposed....

  17. The leftist are lying again. There were over 500,000 there. The truth is marching on...

  18. Thanks for all your Tea Party comments.....if you have a message of Faith Hope and Charity (which is terrific!!).....get another spokesman, because it ain't Glenn Beck!!!!!
If anyone, ANYONE, thinks he is neutral or non-political or even for the everyman, not only are they mistaken, but they are brainwashed into just the thinking Fox and gang want!!!!

  19. Hey poster comment person.....I couldn't open your poster examples but I especially like the posters of Obama as Hitler and Stalin....didn't you?????

  20. Beck is affiliated with the Mormon church which has a long history of prejudice against blacks. (Ex. Brigham Young preached that "negroes" bore the mark of Cain and had policies against black people.) We have to assume that those of you who exalt Beck are informed enough to know his true views and therefore condone them. 'Nuff said.

  21. Al Sharpton and his speakers spent too much time talking about the Beck Rally instead of their own rally. I didn't hear Beck's speakers talking about Sharpton's rally. How shameful and smug. And how telling of Sharpton's realization that he prejudged Beck's motives and now his is unable to apologize. Beck's rally was more of a religious revival meeting...and yet, the REVEREND Al had a problem with it? The REVEREND has made himself totally irrelevant in the American tapestry after today.

  22. 87,000, you people are off your rocker... There were at least 500,000 if not more. Look at the images it was packed from the Lincoln memorial all the way back to the Washington monument. Crowds also packed the green on either side of the reflecting pool. 500,000 is a conservative number.... 87,000 is a biased number.

  23. Alveda King was there. It's said, she's the sort of distanced from the rest of her family. So it's trut that Beck attracts independent thinkers, not just those that go along with what's comfortable.

  24. The point of Glenn Beck's rally was to restore honor and charity. Even though it has a religious basis, and it did seem like there was a lot of preaching about god, we have to remember that even if you do not have faith that you can still be charitable and honorable instead of having the government pay for everything you do.

Personally, I am not a religious type; however, I find that Glenn is heading in the right direction toward helping the U.S. and the Economy. One reason being, is that I noticed that people no longer respect one another. I find that we can help one another if we restore that respect and lower our taxes.

The thing I fear most; however, is obesity and wrong decisions made by people. There must be a way to help others while keeping out taxes low.

Maybe I'm not smart, but at least I can dream, can't I?

One other thing. I do not appreciate what is going in AZ where people must carry their papers. I agree Illegal immigrants shouldn't be here, but it does make us sound like Germany--even though I am still a little offended by the term because we are not trying to eliminate a certain race.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I am just correcting my comment. It say Germany when I meant to say Nazi Germany. I'm sorry for any inconvenience or if anyone was offended by my mistake.

  26. No one is lying kids. They have Ariel shots of the event. To say "There must have been" without the technology is what makes the term "Conservative Think Tank" an oxymoron.

By the way, President Obama is currently in the front running of having the largest gathering in a non music/sports event with his Inauguration of over 1.5 million. The original King Speech beat out Mr. Beck by a couple of hundreds of thousands of people and if you want to go there? Lady Gaga at Lollapalooza 2010 beat Beck's "Whatever That Was For America" Gathering by 153,000 people.

So my suggestion to Mr. Beck: Put on some feathers, glitter and a pointy bra and get a few beach balls. Liberals like open air events. so says Woodstock. Or just switch up on your aging, Xenophobic demographic whose age spots freckle badly in the sun...and go back to that crew you used to have in the 80's: Your Morning Zoo Team. You can fill more open air events if you had a Cheap Trick reunion behind you. You know. Like in that Youtube video claiming "No Gimmicks" with a ton of gimmicks behind you with your partner "Hattrick"

In the scheme of political rallies, it was pretty lame. But, you got hardcore followers completely blind and fooled. I guess...Congratulation on your amazing gimmick?

  27. Does anyone have that "Crazy Cousin". You know the one: The one where you have to begrudgingly invite them to Thanksgiving because they are related and proceeds to talk about everything your family as a whole never believed in?

The off kilter cousin who if you actually have succeeded in *anything* will put you on their resume (example: oh...banking) and try to get a job as a banker? Then proceeds to take all of your years of being a banker and ruin your reputation by not knowing anything about banking, making you wonder on ever deity why in the world you were stuck with this person who just happens to be the daughter/son of your aunt?

That is Alveda King. She screams about bloodlines. Well so did my deadbeat dad who called me out of the blue because he saw me in a movie claiming "Bloodlines" and asking me who my "Representation was" and when I did not give that to him? He found out on his own, CALLED HIM and said and I do quote "We are related, so you know, talent is all bloodlines"

Alveda King is that crazy cousin. The one where I'm sure Martin Luther King III wished he had a big God Eraser to erase this woman out of the family. Probably not. He is too kind and forgiving and probably turned the other cheek just like his father.

She is distorting the history of her uncle. All for the sake of her own popularity under the sickening justification of "Bloodlines" and "Nepotism".

To put this in a better perspective: The Baldwin Brothers are *brothers* they are nothing alike. You don't hear either of them go on about "Connective bloodlines" in the theories of their politics. There are none. It is the same with MLK and AK.

I bet she complains about the Thanksgiving dinner and yet half of the Turkey and potato salad is gone, there is an open package of Saran wrap on the kitchen table and her coat smells surprisingly like food too.

In summary. That woman plain irks me. Not so much about politics. But as a woman who can't get any farther than grasping onto the coattails of a relative where she did not even live in the same house. I can be certain Martin Luther King Jr. is not rolling in his grave. He is shaking his head going "I always knew something was just not right with that girl"

  28. A rally to restore honor is a great idea, but why where Palin and Glenn Beck there?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Glenn Beck's rally was to Americans to unite. To love God!!!!!! To love one another. If we all loved one another where would racism be. Glenn is right until we serve God and love one another and stop teaching hate what chance is there. As long as hate is taught there is no hope because they are not compatable. Anyone teaching hate is wrong! It's that simple. You want to know who the real racist are its the ones teaching hate. Make no mistake you cannot serve God and teach hate. Why is it when Osama Bin Laden makes speeches against us we can know its because he hates us but when someone here teaches hate we say thats right. My prayer would be for every American to be led by the Holy Spirit into truth and love. What Glenn Beck said is not new nor are they his words they arre God's. 2 Chronicles 7:14 " If My people who are called by my name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." We must get back to serving God as our forefathers who started this nation did to be truly blessed as a nation. Serving God not just lip service but truly serving God.
Martin Luthor King had a dream and Praise God for it. We should all have a dream. We should all dream together and our dream as Americans should be GOD BLESS AMERICA.
And not only Americans but all the world.

  30. counting people at these rallies is an inexact science at best. Which is why NBC and teh NY Times estimated the attnedance at 300,000. And why the Huffington Post estimated it at 87,000. I don't think we can claim the NYT and NBC are conservative bastions so...I suspect that once again the Huffington Post has proven itself an unreliable source.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I still can't believe the #'s that are being provided,87,000 (CBS)verse the 500,000 (ME )plus or minus that were there, why is the media doing this. Furthermore , the helicoper (CBS) that took the photos was in restricted airspace and scared the hell out of alot of people. Why can't there be a rally about faith ,hope and charity without all the bull?

    ReplyDelete
  32. so much hate..... seeing it here makes you understand whey Beck felt the need to bring everyone together. agree with him or not, no-one can deny that until each of us become accountable for our own actions there can be no positive change. Problems from education to personal finance all begin at home. Government doesn't fix these issues. People with strong fundimental values do. And get real... easily 300,000 plus were there. Anyone who saw the coverage know's how stupid it is to try to lie about the attendance.

  33. 500,000 at the beck rally,2000 at the sharpton PROTEST rally HMMMM i guess what group of people really care about the direction this country is going in.mid term elections are coming up,watch out Obama we're voting you out in the 2012 elections.

  34. You have said that the Morman Church has "a history" of prejudice toward blacks and therefore we know Becks true views. Blacks have a history of selling their own people into slavery, therefore blacks believe in slavery? Same logic as you use.

  35. Al Sharpton is the last person with a moral right to speak about civil rights. His record of deciding the guilt of people based on unchecked (and later disproven) accusations (the Tawana Brawley case, the Duke University lacrosse team accusation of rape) and the incident in the Bronx that led to arson and the murder of a store owner clearly point to the man's lack of any moral scrupples and his disdaim for the concept of due process of law. who stood with him at the Washington rally without demanding that he be tried in the court of law as one who inciters to murder surely is so filled with racial hatred as to lack the ability to analyze things rationally.

  36. I have no idea what all the fuss is about. I was at the rally, several hundred thousand people easy, no hatred anywhere, just honoring some amazing war heros, people of like minds gathering to show their opposition for the way the country is going. Isn't that why America is so great? We can do that here without fear....or so I thought. Very confused as to what race has to do with any of this.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I was at the rally on Saturday, I came away with a feeling of peace and unity. Everyone has their own opinions of what the rally was for, but having experienced it in person I can say for sure that there was no hatred or rascism involved. What I don't understand is Al Sharpton doing a rally for MLK who wanted equality for everyone and to stop the rascism, when we all know Al Sharpton is a racist. What a hippocrit!

  38. Mormons have a history of prejudice against black people? Let us consider Mayor Nagin who moved his family to Dallas,Texas....into a predominantly white subdivision....long before Katrina hit.
Other famous people who did not particularly like black people.....Franklin and Theodore Roosevelt, Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln, Woodrow Wilson, Lyndon Baines and Claudia Alta Taylor Johnson, Jaqueline Bouvier, Margaret Sanger, Carrie Nations, Robert Byrd, and on, and on, and on.
Like the canons concerning polygamy, the Mormans changed their policies concerning black people long ago. I am an Anglican...as was John Newton...famous slave ship captain...who later in life wrote "Amazing Grace" shortly after becoming a priest in the Church of England.

  39. Glenn Beck is a delusional, dangerous and insane man. You who follow him are sad, sad people. Welcome to reality. 'God' is a fictional character made up by people 2000 years. People who live in the craziest area on earth - the middle east! If the Bible is so right why is there no mention of cars, planes, computers, America, China etc. Why would your 'god' let people suffer, people die and have horrible diseases? Pull your heads out of your asses and realize that there is NO EVIDENCE of god. By the way there is no Santa Claus either. You all make sick and glad that I live in Canada.
