Available 'Rally To Restore Sanity' Attendance Estimate & Crowd

Available 'Rally To Restore Sanity' Attendance Estimate & Crowd. The "Rally to Restore Sanity" attendance and crowd total is set for around 150,000 as of early estimates, but I am sure that like with the Glenn Beck Rally there will be some debate over how many people were there.

There are already commenters who have noted that the Rally to Restore Sanity figures appear to be much higher than the Rally to Restore Honor hosted by Beck in August. That rally total was met with controversy, as CBS news pegged estimates around 87,000 whereas others said it was like 500,000 people.

About 150,000 sounds reasonable for the National Mall. If you count all the people who were at satellite rallies and who logged in on their computers and tuned their TVs to Comedy Central, the attendance will be more broad and numerous.

What are your thoughts on the Rally to Restore Sanity attendance estimates?

  1. Looked like a HUGE crowd to me -- peaceful, too. Watched it live, but I sure wish I could've been there.

  2. I was there, and it looked like a huge crowd. They definitely weren't expecting it to be as big as it was, because we couldn't even get close enough to really hear what was being said.

The train we took out there was literally full; we passed about four stops where the crowds at the metro station were hoping to make it onto the train and there was just no room; not a single person made it on unless someone else left.

If anyone said it was less than 100,000, I wouldn't believe them, but as is I can't find any aerial pictures that are actually available, so I wouldn't want to guesstimate.

  4. Here's a great arial shot, but it also cuts out all the people on the sidewalks, streets, and steps of the surrounding museums. There was an insane amount of people there!

  5. I was there, and won't believe any estimates until I see an analysis of aerial photos by the same guy who did the analysis of the Beck/Palin rally in August. That said, there were a heck of a lot of people on the streets surrounding the mall, and it certainly FELT like a huge crowd. Well-behaved (I can't remember hearing a single screaming kid -- and there were thousands of little kids there), and most people didn't take themselves too seriously. Halloween eve was perfect timing for an event like this.
