Decisions: Unemployment Extension, Tier 5, 99ers, or Bush Tax Cuts?

The 99ers' unemployment extension, the tier 5 and Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy are things on the minds of both old and new lawmakers. What will be their decisions when they enter the lame duck session next week? Will they hit on the unemployment extension first, or will they try to pass the tax cuts first?

Probably the tax cuts, but that's a HUGE mistake, mainly because the tax cuts expire at the end of the month. Something must be done so that Congress doesn't become the Grinch who Stole Christmas from about 2 million American families.

The Bush Tax Cuts are a concern to the wealthy. After all, if they aren't extended the government will get loads more tax revenue. You'd think that with our economy the way it is, that would be a good thing. However, no one wants to pay taxes - especially not the wealthy.

In addition, who do you think funds the campaigns for Congressmen/women and Senators? Not the unemployed - that's for certain. It's the wealthy. Washington has a stronger interest in helping those who helped them personally, than helping us.

Hopefully the decisions that Washington makes over the unemployment extension will be positive. American needs an unemployment extension for the 99ers, and a Tier 5.

  1. Yes, Tiers 1 - 4 need to be extended, but a Tier 5 is also needed.
Since the sad fact is that the true unemployment rate is between 14% and 18% if one includes all the people eligible for a Tier 5 The tier 5 should run for 52 weeks or until the unemployment rate is below 6% for 2 years. This would require business to stop their policies of "Unemployed Need Not Apply". Business would also have to take advantage of the HIRE ACT .

If Congress fails to assist the unemployed then in the first quarter of 2011 may see civil unrest in major U.S . cities

Next on the Bush tax cuts let them expire !. We need to start paying for the unfunded wars

  2. the rich and poltical entities that run this country are ignorant. the number grows for thoese whom seek help in just the basic needs in life. soon the number will be 6 million or more. how would you like to be the few in the senate or congress that has that many upset enemies with starving families..we will see what the future holds..but if they continue to play games im sure it will not be so political and non important as they like to insist that it is..they are playing with fire. if you ask me.

  4. The government knows how to create jobs. Tax china 25% for exports, tax USA Companies 25% for buying product out of the USA, in one year our debt will be paid off, companies will come back to the USA TO AVOID THE TAX. But they wont even talk about this because the lobbiest wont fund their campaigns. This why we can never get better. this is the only answer. DONALD TRUMP FOR PRESIDENT 2012!

  7. Extensions and tier 5 is dead because Obama is a republican. He screwed unions with expanding free trade, didn't make it easier to form unions and most union workers are either unemployed or making less. He only helped the auto workers in his home territory. He has given everything to big business and the elites and scraps to the middle class and poor and people still think he's a democrat even a socialist. This is why tier 5 was never passed which they could have easily passed but instead choose to make a game out of it. That is why it hardly matters who you vote for, they are all republicans even the tea party. The first thing we should get rid of is the senate--they are expensive and useless.

  8. Tier 5 is just greed, 99 weeks is enough. Tier 5 is screwing the tier 1-4 people with this all or nothing attitude.

  10. In the 99er New Depression Blues Video......
Dejected after the election, 99ers like myself are Getting Ready to HOBO UP with the new TEA PARTY GOP House!
We desperately need a new Tier 5 Extended Unemployment Benefits Bill or there will be a Hobo Up Generation
for future 99ers and others in the street. During 1934 a million and half Hobos rode the rails and in 2011
we 99ers will need a new Government HOBO Program for 5 millions 99ers out of benefits thanks to the GOP
House. The Hobo UP program can teach us to ride the freight rails safely when migrating for work . The
House can call the low buck training film with class (1 day) and related laws the HOBO UP ACT. The Bill
can have old hobos showing the ropes to us newly minted hobos which should be a bill that finally finds
support from the controlling GOP House. Mercy has never been on their agenda. Mitch McConnell was quoted
in the national journal "The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a
one-term president". Yes,the GOP Leading Senator from Kentucky has no problem derailing the recovery every
way possible in hopes of political gains two years from now. From Artist Country Carl dot com
singer of the 99ers New Depression Blues, on YouTube hopefully you too won’t have to HOBO UP.

Please start posting the state you are living in next your name. This would be a start for state by state unity. And once a state website is set up, we start going from county to county. And then city to city. Once we reach that point we would be able organize active civil disobedience, but until we get to the point that we know who’s who in the zoo, we will remain ineffective. Authors please include this in your articles so we can get this going. Readers, please copy this and post it on every site you visit. This is our beginning.

  12. I think the tax cuts are very important to job stimulation and small business. The 99whiners have been riding this train too long and it needs to be completely cut off. Welfare needs restructuring as well. All the 99ers want is to have the Government pay their little way for the next 2 years, so they can sit on their fat butts and be lazy.

  13. Out of work in Texas. We don't have Tier 4; if 99 passes, would states that don't have Tier 4 be required to pass Tier 4, prior to paying in Tier 5 (if there is one)?

Each state has the choice of whether to accept the approved extensions, or not. Tx and Fla were two of the staes that chose not toutilize the funds. You can thank Rick Perry.

  16. James- Ca- What is this? Do you guys want people to starve.? Tier 5 would give all of us struggling. A Ray Of Hope. We need one more Tier to pick ourselves up a little and continue searching. I am in Calif. I have applied to 16 Temporary Firms, the first place that does jobs is The Temp firms. There is absolutely, nothing. I talk to the girls who work there. 16 Temp firms, there is absolutely nothing. Maybe 2 morning jobs for just 3 days, and they have 300 call-ins to choose for those. There are no jobs to be had. We need a little help. There are bills to pay, houses to save. By not helping the unemployed, this economy will just get worse and worse. Spending will decrease and more jobs will be lost. Due, to lack of spending. Tier 5, it just makes good economic sense. All of the money will be spent, thus saving more jobs. Even Fast Food restaurants are laying off. No one is buying? Do any of these posters understand this? I am tired of these insensitive comments. You sound like those old fogie Republicans? Old Fogies are out of touch. It's time for everyone to get, in touch. We need Tier 5

  20. Nobody wants anyone to starve. Go to the soup kitchen or hitch a ride on that Big Daddy's yacht. Maybe he will put you to work cleaning barnacles off the hull of his ship wreck. If you can't get to work after 99 weeks, there is a problem. It's called being picky and very selective. You might have to relocate to make it happen. Make it happen, POUND THE PAVEMENT.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Get back to work Charlene! Be grateful that you still have a job. You're being lazy and INEFFECTIVE by surfing unemployment sites.

    ReplyDelete
  22. What about everyone that has not had benefits for over 5 months?? The unemployment numbers do not include people that have not been working past 99 weeks. It is soooo hard and nearly impossible to find a job for everyone that is not working. I either have too much experience or not enough. Forget about all the new kids that will be graduating college and looking to start a career. The government cares more about other countries in need than our own country when in need. SUCH A SHAME!!!

  27. First off I am a fellow 99er. However I have a job. Over the past 15 years I have made just about 40k and the last years (07 and 08) I made just over $40k a year, I bought a house for my family in 2007. In July of 09 I got laid off due to the economy. NOT MY FAULT. A month of looking for a job to make up for my loss, I found a job in my field. Applied and the following week got a letter in the mail from that company saying they can not hire me due to me being over experienced. I never even realized that was a concern. I figured out its just a polite way of saying we are looking for a person we can pay close to minimum wage to do this job and due to your experience we are not willing to offer the position to you because you more than likely will cost us too much money. GREAT, right? So its approaching Thanksgiving of that year and I decide I'm screwed, I keep applying and I keep getting the same response. Being I'm not the type to just sit around I decide to work for a retail giant (no its not Wal-Mart) until I can find something better. I took the only job that was available, and I still work there a year later. Are there jobs out there? Yes, there are. However for me and what I know and schooled in, no. I'm 35 I have done 1 thing for a good portion of my life, architectural design. With this job there is no fall back, its this or nothing. The people, sorry, the ignorant people who say its our fault, we should be able to find a job in 99 weeks apparently have no clue. Some retard said we are being picky, some of us have no choice but to be picky, some people have mortgages to pay on, and/or a car payment to pay. As for being selective, of course we are selective, as everyone else is, we have to find a job that we can do. As for relocating, see before I continue its these people that are confused and if you haven't been put in this situation, shut your pie hole. Now as for relocating, do you realize that relocating costs money? Do you realize that some people can't relocate due to the economy sucks and selling a house isn't all that easy right now? Why are non-99ers even here by the way? Do you need our words to make your lives seem better. Let me help with something thats on your mind, its true no one cares about you, jump off that bridge and no, no one will even know you are gone, unless you act the same way outside of this as you do here, than everyone will rejoice and thank that you are gone.

  30. my guess is that "bigdaddy" is a paid antagonist/blogger...if we all ignore his comments he will most likely go away. The ones that are going through this horrible catastrophe know the facts and all we can do is educate those who are ignorant from time to time. perhaps if the "bigdaddys" of this country would bother to read the facts of the situation we wouldnt have to deal with this abuse and this country would be in a better place.

  40. I keep checking google for new reports on 99 legislation. What I find is that while many journalists are advocates, it doesn't seem like Congress is going to address this issue as any priority, much less top priority.

If anyone has heard different please post some info here! Thanks.

  41. to Jim in CA / bigdaddy- get a clue, you a hired Troll! (trolls are usually 35 yrs of age & are hired from agencies or lobbyist groups to spit retarded comments AGAINST truth on the internet)... and if he is not a hired troll, trhen he should consider trying to get on the payroll ;)

but if anyone thinks unemployment INSURANCE should be cutoff for millions of Americans during the most important sales quarter (4th), because we can't afford it- then they are stupid!. this country CAN afford to SAVE our lives... deficit talk is nonsense talk. just a smokescreen =

*congress spent almost 2 million dollars last year on donuts/coffee/water for their chambers! and they are hardly even in session most of the year!

*the wars which are just a fake military money machine for the rich contractor investors, are wasting trillions!... war on terror, haha what a joke... in sandals in caves? haha yeah ok ;)

*2 million dollars of stimulus money for bike racks in downtown areas (when there are already EMPTY bike racks). not to mention the 1 million dollars of stimulus SIGNS announcing "stimulus is coming". and all the "contract" money around the states for puppet theaters & turtle tunnels & facebook studies on how girls "hook up" on college campuses... hahaha pure wasted tax payer money...

*USA occupies 187 military bases around the world. way way too many!!! we only need like a dozen bases around the world... and just think of all the jet fuel money it takes for all the "training/practice" flights... pure waste of cash...

*when watching the unemployment discussions 2 months ago on Cspan, i seen a Republican argue about no money/debt, but then he turns around 30 seconds later and asks congress for 20 million for a new submarine to add to our huge existing fleet.. pure retardedness! (to complain about deficit, then ask for a 20 mill sub! he said "we our concerned about the RUSSIAN navy!" like its effin 1980 or something!... then the next day on the news i seen a Russian battle ship visit the san francisco bay port, on a friendly visit. the Russian sailors had huge smiles waiving AND couldn't wait to come on land and mingle with Americans!...hahaha, yeah ok, didn't look like Russian navy was any threat, like the republican stated just a day before, when he asked for 20 mil sub!.... WOW, talk about a bunch of Lies!!! wtf do they think we all are that stupid or something??? get real! the middleclass/hardworking Americans are the SMARTEST people on the planet... and that's why they want to shrink/get rid of the middleclass... we think /ask questions/use common sense ;)

**NO Bush TAX CUTS for the rich UNTIL unemployment extensions!!!! period...

also- that the fed 99 wk unemp program was set up when unemp was actually LOWER than it is now! so why would they not help/continue the program now when unemployment is actually WORSE!? makes no sense!

*there are no jobs people! its gotten worse!. actual unemployment figures are about 22%, not 9.6% like the media lies about. even congressmen got up in front of congress with charts SHOWING the actual unemployment #'s were over 30 million. but yet the media "chooses" to run with the fake 15 million # ;) and in reality its more like 45 million unemployed! get real people and see the truth/reality!

extend unemployment INSURANCE until there is less than 8.5% unemp rate!

bring our troops home/save the trillions of wasted tax payer money,

stop giving away trillions to banks/G.sachs for ABSOLUTELY no reason (and they said "we need 180 billion by monday" also. lmfao)

and start taxing internet sports gaming, that would generate billions in tax revenue...

those are JUST 3 quick examples to reduce our deficits and or help the unemployed...

thanks to you smart people who read this agree!
    peace and love in 2011

  46. MI-
I have a "job" if you want to call it that. I still am eligible for unemployment because of so few hours, so my employer cut my hours even more to less than 1 8 hour day a week.

I put out 3 or more resumes a day, nothing.

I have gone back to college to finish the degree I started 10 years ago, hoping to get a "real" job.
I have a mortgage, no car payment, no credit cards, no other debt. Just my house.

My house is important. 2 grown sons are back home, and a friend, who finally got a job after 3 YEARS, are here. Many people have crashed here during this hard time, each of my sons at one time or another. We are trying to stay afloat together.

I don't know all the answers, I just keep trying, keep praying and keep looking.

  47. How ignorant are you people???? I am unemployed and have been actively looking for a job since the day I was laid off and have sent out 500 + resumes. There are NO jobs out there, period end of story. The state I live in is closing shelters due to lack of state funding and food banks are not getting any donations and are not able to give food out to those who need it. The food stamp program is a joke, if you are not a US citizen you qualify. What about the those who reallly need help, paid into the system all their working life and are denied? It is a shame!! Washington does not want to extend unemployment benifits at the worst time ever, WINTER! Get your heads out of your wealthy bank accounts and think about what you are doing to the middle class, the class I used to belong now since the middle class no longer exists because of Washington I am now considered poor! Who in Washington is for the poor and why aren't they fighting for us?
