UPDATE: Unemployment Extension 2010 Funding Found By Republican Senator?

The unemployment extension 2010 has been on the minds of many policy watchers, not just the unemployed. Funding the unemployment extension is the big question mark. The GOP doesn't want any additional federal spending without a corresponding increase in tax or cut in spending in other places.

So it's unlikely that it would be Scott Brown, the Massachusetts Senator that SHOCKED the world by being elected by the first red Senator in a traditionally blue state in many, many years would FIND money laying around in the government.

After all, we have billions upon billions of dollars of debt - we've got out of control spending, and Scott Brown has found what he calls "money in the couch cushion"

This is according to Fox News Live coverage...and of course sounds a little strange to me considering that less than 24 hours ago, major media was reporting that Scott Brown singlehandedly blocked the extension of benefits.

All finger pointing aside...when will the unemployment extension be passed? In essence, not fast enough.

  1. First I want to say I used to be a REPUBLICAN as I said used to be. I was an ultra conservative and always felt to much spending would eventually doom our country. I can tell you now since I have been unemployed for 15 months after working 30 yrs without ever being out of a job. I am at my wits end with the Republican party. HELLO WAKE UP GOP there are millions of us out of work. If you dont help to extend the UI I will have to send my 3 children to different family members in different parts of the country while I live at the homeless shelter and try to find any work. I am at a loss for words how can we let the people who have supported this great country hang out to dry. WOW I am so disheartened. I am now a dedicated DEMOCRAT and regardless of whether or not the GOP pass the extension just the idea they dont really care!!!!!!!!!

  2. Scott brown should be out of a job and not be able to find another one and try to feed and support his family and see how he likes it. Sounds like a typical politition to me. Thanks jerk off

  3. My wife & I have been conservatives all our lives, we are both 60 now. Five years ago the IRS came to our business to do an audit. It took the IRS over TWO years of constant auditing to find something on us.

The IRS dug, plugged, checked and rechecked. At the end, they found an obscure violation of our Corporate Charter forbidding BofD's to loan money to our own Corp. With that we lost our business.

Our CPA said it best...(as well as the IRS review board), when they both said, "This auditor was looking to get you."

With the end of our business we filed for unemployment (the IRS took all our money). Now the government doesn’t want to continue to help as we work for employment and/or new business.

This reminds me of my Fathers words: "Take all the Dems and Reps and strip them naked, put them in a barrel, shake um up and pore um out. They would all walk, talk and act alike. Cause not a damn one of them care about the voters, the average citizen. They are all a bunch of elitist and think their shit don’t stink."

  4. We paid our dues. We are hardworking citizens who have tried to live the American dream. Gone to college, and through no fault of our own, our jobs have been Outsourced. We have a right to work. It's enough our dignity is taken. America has found the money to help many global causes. But what about US!! The people of America. We are not lazy BUMS, just want to work. Where are the JOBS?

  5. Is it even possible that they will get the votes necessary? Did the votes of the tax cuts today hurt the unemployeed or help the unemployeed? I'm only 17 years old and I've sat and watched my father apply and apply for jobs! He is in sales and has been all of his life, now he is looking for anything. He put a application in a temperary service and he complains to us all that the reason their not calling him is because he's too old! My father is a good man and I'm very disappointed in leaders of this country right now.

  6. So help me understand this....We help pay their salaries even while on unemployment through the taxes we have taken out of the little check they provide to us. Money that we helped put in to the UI fund through our hard work over the years. But they feel they graciously gave us what they feel is enough and don't care enough to help us any longer. It is no wonder that the crime rate is increasing, homes are being lost and families destroyed. To all you politicians, don't dare calling my house for a vote to save your job. You are not gonna want to hear what I have to say. Wake up America and help out your neighbors.

  8. I will collect my last check next week..... My wife has been doing half doses of her insulin and not testing as much as she should, and thats while i am ON unemployment.... after next week I have NO idea how I will get her very expensive insulin. OMG I am not lazy, just at 55 yrs old I find the jobs are going to the younger people. too young to retire, to old to get a job. being unemployed is difficult.

  9. Is the Nationwide Rally to Extend Unemployment Insurance an official organization? If so, how does one join? Official or unofficial - I'm in. It's been 20 months since my job was eliminated during a "restructure process." If every elected official had to live for one month on the same limited resources the unemployed have, we would see a different result. How pathetic that millions are sent out of this country to help people in distress and our lawmakers cannot - or will not - see the plight of the American unemployed or hear their cries for help. And, we do contribute to their salaries when we have taxes deducted from the pittance we receive. Then they have the gall to fund other programs while denying an extension of benefits. These men and women are truly without a conscience.

  10. 15 months unemployed and already bashing republicans for not extending unemployment? you still have 11 weeks to find employment and make life changes before any of your UI runs out so hop to it my friend and quit crying! GO AHEAD AND BACK THE DEMOCRATS THEY NEED ALL THE HELP THEY CAN GET COME 2012! NOBAMA 2012

    ReplyDelete
  11. The message on my last check stub informed me that my benefits expire December 4th - this Saturday so I do not have 11 weeks to find employment. I'm not crying - just stating the facts. Try finding work when you're a 65+ year old woman. Most employers take one look and laugh up their sleeves at the thought of hiring someone my age. I am capable of and willing to work so tell me where to find employment, oh wise one. My husband is in bad health and is on multiple medications; in order to provide them, I need a job. I never thought I would have to work at my age, but like many other seniors, the economy has made it necessary. I'm not asking for sympathy or pity, just a job.

  12. The politicians (in most countries) are either bought out by the rich private banksters or they are the rich private banksters! IMF, World Bank, Bilderberg Group, Rothschilds, (privately own and control many Central Banks around the world including the Central Bank of England, Canada, Austria, France, Italy, Switzerland, and Germany. They are also profoundly invested in the Federal Reserve Bank of the United States of America!) Queen of England, Queen Beatrice of the Netherlands… on and on and on! Thieves! They know that all us people cannot pay back the 1.5 quadrillion dollars of fraudulent debt to their greedy asses! Total enslavement is here people! Death to private corporate global government before we have a MAD MAX world in a few short years! WAKE UP!

  13. I am Not Lazy!!! Me and my husband have worked to to obtain "the American Dream" our
"piece of the pie" we own our home we have depleted all of our savings and my 401k I with no problem received unemployment due to my lay off I was not fired I did not quit!
NO FAULT OF MY OWN !! my husband luckily has work still he is a foreman for a roofing company and the weather determines his ability to work.
we have children to care for I make every penny count with food coupons and store add specials. we do not qualify for welfare aid because we own a home!! food stamps would help us out so much! why cant the government let most take advantage of food stamps for the unemployed? we struggle to pay every month with our mortgage and bills we are going to really hurt this Christmas.
HELP! WHERE CAN WE GET HELP? CAN ANYONE TELL ME PLEASE!

  14. I like all the other unemployed would like to see these politicians out of work. As far as I am concerned they spend way to much time fighting each other than getting anything done. The rest of their time they travel all over the country, maybe they should stay in Washington, and take care of business. Stop sending money to other countries and take care of the people in our own. They don't care that they don't have the money to fund the tax cuts to billionaires but it bothers them that they dont have the money for the unemployed. Let me see I wonder who is in the politicians pockets, obviously not the unemployed. They should be ashamed of themselves. My husband is 67 and surviving on low social security income. He had to work for us to survive, I to have not had medical tests that I can not afford, and at 63 am wishing my life away to become 65 and get on medicare for some help. There is something wrong with this Country when the unemployed are held hostage for billionaires.

  15. It's a damn shame that about 14 million people are still out of work and that the USA can't even take care of their people in this country. So will we turn into a 3rd world country? Politics Repulican Style is B.S. Really though the voter's who voted in this new Congress have nobody to blame but themselves and I hope you are part of the millions of unemployed who elected these GOP/Tea Party Senators that will be suffering too should they not pass this next extension. Change? Well this is what we get for the consequences. GOP and Tea Party you suck ass!!!

  16. let the tax cuts lapse for the rich and take money and pay for the unemployment extension, kind of stealing from the rich and giving it to the unemployed. Then enaact a WPA and other depression era work programs. Let's work ourselves out of this thing. I would like to work just for the self worth aspect of it. There are plenty of things to be done. Unemployment is great for about 3 weeks and then it's nutz to realize the bankers and mortage brokers destroyed the economy. Like my one banker friend stated, after 45 years of banking I have never seen anything like this. This economy is frozen. I have always worked since I was 11. Don't plan to retire for there is lot's to do to get the world ready for our children's children. Just some thoughts.

  18. Quit being so darn lazy and get a job of any kind. Stop expecting the free ride on the unemployment train. Shovel some snow, cut some grass. People I know collecting Unemployment are making me sick. They are only getting out of bed when I am coming home from work and then try to say that they cant find a job! Get out of bed and look!!!

  19. Let some of those low life republicans lose their job and have to try and find a real one. Let them send out resumes and see how many call backs they get. I guarantee not any like all of us get. None have ever had to go through what we are going through. Sorry we are not all born rich

    ReplyDelete
  20. Jobs these days are there, but you either have to have 10 years experience in that job field or some kind of high degree (Bachelors/masters) to even have your resume looked at.
Ive been unemployed for 20 months and have worked my whole career in the computers field. I dont even qualify for entry level positions due to the strict requirements that employers are demanding. Employers are dumb and they know they can be picky and choosey at this time because there are so many hungry people out there looking for work. Even if I qualify and get through the door, theres 20 other people that qualified and the winner is the employer. They know they can pick who they want and slam the door on everyone else because theres so many of us, we're a dime a dozen

  21. Some people say "well, go down to McDonalds and get a job.. ya bum!" the problem is, McDonalds doesnt pay enough to make a living. Most people that are unemployed today are/were professionals in thier respective fields, meaning that what they have now the bills they have to pay wont even come close to being satisfied on $10/hr flipping burgers.
I dont have a family to support but i do own a home and the cost of owning a home is not the cost of renting an apartment. Flipping burgers will leave me living out of my car inthe very parking lot of the McDonalds i would be working for. Noone knows the hardship of being unemployed until they are in that very situation wondering where the next dollar is going to come from to pay the mortgage or buy the next packet of top ramen to eat.
The unemplyment insurance at least keeps me off the streets and in a home that otherwise would have been lost long ago

  22. Had a job of some kind since I was 15 through high school and college. Lost my 25-year dream job (and health insurance!) when recession hit. Filed for unemployment and immediately began re-training for the healthcare industry. Volunteered in healthcare facilities as well. Now sending out resumes like crazy and continuing volunteer stints to keep skills sharp. Have no debts except a mortgage. Top credit score. Diabetic but controlled strictly with diet and exercise—no meds. 62 yrs. old and in terrific shape—look and act mid to late 40s. For me, work is life. I can't stand not being productive and earning my keep. But UI has been a Godsend while I re-order my life in this difficult economy. And the first person that calls me "lazy" I will shoot between the eyes.

  23. Did you REALLY just say "get out of bed and look" and "quit being so darn lazy"? REALLY?! The fact that "all the people" you "know collecting Unemployment are making (you) sick" does not prove a valid point. The ONLY valid point it DOES prove is that the people you "know" are users and abusers of the system and probably are enjoying a free ride. Good for you for being acquainted with such wastes of space. What your pretty generalized statement DOES say about YOU, is that you are ignorant and do not EVERYONE who is collecting Unemployment. Are you telling the 60 year olds to get out and cut grass or shovel some snow- because if so, I could make a pretty UNgeneralized statement about YOU. Congratulations on having a job, whatever it may be- and I really don't care what you do. What I DO care about is idiots who are running off at the mouth about things they don't understand. Do you honestly feel that the Unemployment rate would be this high ONLY in the last couple of years because people DON'T want to work? If these people don't want to work then they would not have been working and contributing to society for the past 10, 20 and 30 years. Do you think they enjoy taking a pay cut of about 40-50% of what they WERE making just so they don't have to get out of bed and go to work? REALLY, do you think they WANT to be unemployed and listen to ass clowns like you who know NOTHING about what life is like for them? Do you think they enjoy explaining to their kids that Santa might not be able to make it their house this year? Yes, you are right! That life sounds AMAZING and that "Unemployment Train" you rant about... hell, I can see why 24 million Americans are buying tickets on THAT ride!
Before you speak, you ignorant fool-- you BEST know what you are talking about. Or at least say it out loud FIRST so you can hear how idiotic and insensitive you sound.

  24. 11:10 what kind of work do you do? if your serious with your comment you will answer if not your lying about being employed!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. i like how people posting as anonymous think that jobs fall out of the sky. That previous person saying people he know make him sick cuz they are just getting out of bed.. Looking for a job in this economy is not an automatic, super fast thing to do. You are depending on the employer that has the opening to pick you to interview with. If they are not interested, guess what? they dont tell you, you wait long enough and then you apply somewhere else.
People on unemployment are still people. We dont live our lives knocking on business's door 24/7. Actually that almost impossible to do these days. Every employer has a website that you submit your information to and then you wait.. and hope that you get a call asking you to meet with them.
Those people are the haters in this world that think everything is so easy because they have never had to do it, never had to worry or depend on an outside source to keep them afloat till the economy recovers

  26. These politicans should be ashamed of themselves! Millions of people are out of work and don't know what will happen to them and who will take of their families. I lost my job because I was being treated for breat cancer. I couldn't tell my employer exactly when I would be returning so they decided it was better to replace me, like things weren't bad enough already. Then they said when your ready to come back let us know, well I did and guess what nothing was available. Now my umemployment will run out in a couple weeks. I bet if these politicans had family or friends that were unemployed they would see things a little differently. It is a shame but the sorry ass Republicans have made it very clear through their total dis-regard of the people in desperate need that they do not give one iota about any of us. So what else can be done? Protest in the streets the WAY people in third world countries would have already done. It appears they are either daring or welcoming us to do so. What other choice does one have? ALL this phone calling and emailing Senators since way back in the summer has done nothing. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Or should we just accept being shit on by our very own Goverment? If people got mad enough in every major city across America, maybe the tide would turn a little in our favor. Nationwide resistance could not be ignored. The people in those third world countries are probably laughing at us and saying, damn whats wrong with those whimpy ass Americans. Because they would not stand for it.

    ReplyDelete
  30. How about a day to boycott SOMETHING to protest them IGNORING the fact that the extension is running out. PICK a day somebody!! No one shops that day! Think it would grab their attention?? What's it gonna do to the economy when we all lose what little unemployment we get???

    ReplyDelete
  31. I just lost my job at the end of October. I only get 5 months of unemployment and unfortunately no job in sight. Those who have been unemployed for the last couple of years have been able to receive a generous amount of benefits yet us who just recently lost our jobs won't get near as much.

I would MUCH rather be working but if my unemployment is cut off in a couple of month then I will be homeless as well. Want the economy to get better? Keep unemployment going so people can afford to put some kind of money back into the economy while looking for work.

  32. This country needs to vote out all Republicans! They are the poison of this country. They are selfish, greedy, environmental polluters, hypocrites and they do not care about anybody that is not a white, straight Protestant. They are only protecting the rich and nobody else. 36. The Republicans want a way to pay for unemployment benefit extensions. Here is a novel idea....let the Bush tax cuts expire and the the working rich people can help all of us unemployed people exist until someone figures out a way to get me and the millions of other unemployed back to work! Its is a national disgrace that we are being used as a political football. I am disgusted.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I find it very ironic that the Repuplicans are telling the unemployed the find jobs when they are the very ones that are outsourcing jobs to other countries for their own good. They are destroying our country when they claim to be "PATRIOTIC". The Republicans definitely have something wrong with their brains!

    ReplyDelete
  38. When thousands start sleeping on the streets, robbing to get food (or money for food), jam the ERs because they are unable to get medicine for debilating illnesses, who is going to help them? Social services have been cut, police and fire staffing have been cut, the few shelters that exist now are crammed full, the hospital systems are already on the brink of collapse...WHAT in HELL do they think people are going to do??!! Maybe "they" have the boxcars lined up outside of town and ready? Ya gotta wonder...

  39. Republicans will only negotiate extended UI benefits if they get tax breaks themselves. They're like trying to deal with spoiled children!

    ReplyDelete
  40. We will see extended UI benefits but it may take a while, and remember, they're retroactive. The Republicans want something in return before they'll budge. It just goes to show their mentality when they cut benefits off just before Christmas. They claim to be Christians when the're so evil!!!!

  41. Blackmail, extortion...it's pretty clear.

Obama needs to "open a can of whoop ass" on them
RIGHT NOW and tell them they are not going to recess until they pass UI and Tier 5 through the end of 2011.

Dem leaders need to start up impeachment proceedings on the majority of them. Their actions are criminal as well as immoral. What they are doing far exceeds the actions of the one who got censured today. Much, much worse.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I have been out of work since July and my UI runs out in two weeks and no extension in sight. I do not understand how people can be getting 3rd and 4th tier extensions and I cannot even get one. I completely understand that those getting the extensions need them but what about those that need the first one????

    ReplyDelete
  43. If we stop giving billions to other countries then maybe we can afford to pay UI extensions for OUR own citizens! We have the dumbest politicians on the planet!

    ReplyDelete
  44. It doesn't matter where you stand in the UI tiers. The state you live in pays for your first 26 weeks, then it goes federal. Everyone that got 99 weeks kept getting extensions. Now that the evil Republicans have blocked the bill, nobody gets an extension, not even after your 26 weeks until our evil friends extend them. The Dems usually have no problems with this.

  45. Warren Buffet (one of the riches men in the world) said he & others in his tax bracket need to pay more taxes. Republicans have taken a capitalist oath to ensure that the rich maintain low taxes while cutting funding for education, healthcare, unemployment for the rest of us. Why? So that the masses are deprived of the essentials in order to keep them happy when they get any job. People, brothers & sisters, we are at war!!! Turn on the news, read whats being fought in Congress. The rich have bought & paid for their voice in our government. We come from a historical group of people that in the core stood for EQUALITY for all!! Why are we not fighting? Why are we not demanding what are tax dollars pay for. The power is in us. They need us to continue to slave away within their corporations making them money while they give us pennies for every hundred they make. Please for the love God we need to unite and fight. I'm sorry no disrespect but the Republicans, Tea Party, f*&king Palin. You stand for all that will destroy this country. Be aware that some of us are educated, are soldiers and we will find you and take back what is rightfully OUR CHILDRENS NOT Your spoiled little brats that do nothing but spend money.

  46. Our constitution gives us the right to decide as a united country what is ours. Our laws protect us. Police Officers are their first line of defense. ATTN: Police take a look at your badges. To protect & serve the people NOT the Corporations. Stop selling your positions to the highest bidder. You took an oath defend us!! We have been taught to look at petitions like "whatever nothing comes from it" that is a strategic attribute in order for the masses to be so disillusioned by the system that has within its guidelines all the necessary components for us to stop what is happening. If they keep us poor, more of us go to jail over ridiculous charges, more of turn to drugs or alcohol to soothe our emotions when we know we are being raped of our own lives.

Federalist (alexander hamilton) aka Republicans want you to make them as much money as possible. The party is rooted by BANKERS. The anti-federalist (T. Jefferson, Ben Franklin,John Adams) aka Democrats party rooted in revolutionary individuals that were the essential core to this countries formation. The Anti Federalist were all about Indivdual human right to live a life of happiness.

Shame on the democrats that have sold their souls for money. May that money bring you closer & closer to your own private HELL.

  50. the people who are on unemployment but still work and get paid "under the table". they are the ones who should suffer by not getting an extension. in the last 6 years, i have worked for 2 companies that both went out of business. i got a job at a well known company (which will remain nameless) that makes millions of $$. they were only giving me 6 hours a week for 2 months. then 3 months ago, i was taken off the schedule completely because they said "they ran out of hours". i am currently on unemployment which is due to run out dec.14, and i desperately would rather work, and make more than the 98.00 a week i get from unemp. But i can't help but wonder. if we are in the worst recession ever, will someone please tell me how retailers had "the best black friday sales in years?" where did people get all this money to spend on frivolous things? why would the republicans up unemployment when clearly people are finding spending money SOMEWHERE?!?

    ReplyDelete
  51. The best 'Black Friday Ever' is a media and retail driven piece of propaganda...the whole idea of that being the biggest shopping day was created by the retail industry to push the Sheople into the stores. People are simple and can be lead by the smallest little push by propaganda which is why it works so well. The senate is playing a dangerous game of let's become communist right before the Sheople's eyes, it's easy. They manipulate the feeble minded and lead them to the voting booth. THINK FOR YOURSELVES...unemployment was also created by the government through their greed and the money they make from off shoring your jobs! Time to march on Washington like the good old days instead of standing idly by ALLOWING them to get away with whatever they want! Christmas this year is but another day in the month, draw your families close to your heart, NOT your wallet, and see what Love and Family really means this year.

  53. You will all get your extensions, this is just another game in the long line of games they play to manipulate you simple minded people into doing their bidding. After you start getting those checks again, you'll forget all about that gut wrenching feeling you have right now, and sit back on your asses and let Washington DC do whatever they want once again. They are Banking on it! Come election time they'll remind you how heroic they were in giving you the money so you'd not miss Christmas...you are being lead to slaughter and most of you are going willingly!! Jobs are not there, they won't be there in the near future either. Repeal NAFTA and get industry back in the USA. Stand Up and Speak out!!!! They work for you, not the other way around...there is something to be said about public unrest, this country was founded by a bunch of traitors to the crown...show them you are not going to buy their BS anymore and that your vote does in fact count. All of this started long before there was an Obama, so don't blame him, he is nothing more than a figure head. Blame the power of $$$$$$$$ on men in positions they shouldn't be in.

  54. When I signed up for unemployment the unemployment office said yes you can get up to 99 weeks now. I have been unemployed for a year now and went to sign up for a extension and then they say your unemployment will run out in 6 more weeks. Wow what happened to that 99 weeks. There are no jobs in my area I have college degree 25 years of experenice. So I guess I will take a job like I had in high school.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Jaybird, thanks for your thoughtful commentary but you are wrong about stealing from the rich to pay the poor. The Bush-era tax cuts were exactly the opposite - providing tax breaks that put a HUGE dent in our budget to fatten the wallets of the wealthy at the expense of everyone else. This isn't taking money from the rich to pay the poor, it is getting the rich to start paying their fair share after having a 10 year break from doing so.

What I want to know is this....we held fund raisers for virtually every disaster that has happened over the past five years, yet we cannot or will not help our own people? I have barely hung on to my home (which by the way I owe more than it is worth) and now, my unemployment is gone.....Wake up America....what are we doing to help our own people who so desperately need it?

  58. History shows than when benefits stop, people miraculously find jobs. Ninety-nine weeks is sufficient. In the good old days unemployment benefits ended in just 13 weeks. Most people are refusing to work at anything below their qualifications. How many unemployed could have accepted a job in the fields picking crops? In many cases the unemployed are "making" more a month than a low end job pays. Quite crying and take a job!

We have been sold out by both parties, they work for wallstreet, the bankster's and the multinational corporations. Bush the grim reaper and Obama the undertaker. We need a third party to represent the interests of the average american and I don't include the tea party and the likes of dim wit Sara Palin, but she will probably be a shoe in, another rope a dope with hope. In ny while unemployment goes up, and less taxes are in state control, they raised our land and school taxes how do we pay these taxes with no jobs ? Soda tax the so called "Fat tax" we cant afford juice or soda now, so we drink water, ohh wait our waterbills raised where soes it end? How do we end it so the poeple can be heard because its not through our right to vote, they feel thats just show of power to use for their personal gain. One thing we do know is that history repeats itself so i wonder how and when, what states will dissolve from the U.S and repeat the revolution? what this country needs is a true leader that can reach between these barriers, stop the secrets and handshakes and tell the politicians this is what you will do, and by when you will be expected to get it done! How do we hold these poeple accountable cause its not by crossing party lines they see that has a victory rather than need for change!

  64. If you aren't aware of it, last year they said was the "Best Black Friday Ever" and then they had to retract that statement when it was realized it was the worst shopping season ever.

It is the hope of the media that by telling you good news it will make you behave in a certain way. Look everyone is spending, so you should! Look we only mention a growing economy and no one will be upset and rioting about the fact that we actually have 20% unemployment when you look at the numbers.

Otherwise the news would actually be reporting on the unemployment issues that face this country and offshoring. However, since they are now owned by corporate america they are not.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Anonymous 10:49

What history are you talking about? That when unemployment stops the numbers rapidly drop? That's not people finding jobs, that's their numbers no longer being counted once they are off unemployment.

You are completely misinformed if you think that people are willingly on unemployment.

  66. All I know that is within a month we will be homeless...at no fault of ours, our jobs were outsourced and over 1000 men and women were walked out the door almost two yrs ago. For heat I am using a woodstove, for electricty I have propane lanterns, food is from the pantry. I am over 50, I applied even for a waitress job at 3.00 an hour, and was told that they needed someone young who could move fast.
Lazy I am not. I am sitting here in the library going over job service positions again and to warm up before walking the three miles to another job interview at a Burger King.
Those who say that those on unemployment are bums, come live in my shoes for one week. I walk nearly 50 miles a day looking...and go home to spam/soup or a salad.

  70. The employment saturation rate in the US is about
3.75%. Everyone between 3.75 and 9.8 cannot be considered lazy as they would work if work (at their level) was available.
To the anon ranting about the Rothschilds, this has gone on for centuries. Don't blame the Dems or Repubs.
For the person stating he/she was a republican b4 but not now, is a fraud because if you were the former, you would know who created this crisis.
Blame this on the Dems, all they have to do is take the $$ from unpaid stimulus funds. The GOP would sign in an instant. Why won't the dems do it?

  71. Kathy,
One way to look at it is: So "you" have been out for xx months. In that time what have you done to build a better you, or add to your skill set that now will be helpful in competing against the other candidates?
If the answer is nothing, you are going to be "beaten" by the candidates that do.
Just putting out a resume is not the answer.
I have been to seven halfday seminars, inexpensive ones, added them to my resume and the just finished with a phone interview. Maybe it will not go anywhere but the contact was made.
Recruiters want to know what you have been doing during this time. Putting in resumes is not a good answer.

  72. For the fellow that says Dems and Repubs are the same. During your father's time, this would have been closer to right but now the Dems do not in anyway resemble the Dems of JFK or Truman.
The left is controlled by a more McGovern type which the country rejected dramatically in 1972.
Amazing what you can do when the major media repeats the same propaganda all the time.
The void has widened so much because the left has gone off the edge when the right has more or less stood in place (philosophically wise).

  73. Someone please explain to me why Democrats were voted out and Republicans in. If you are not unemployed then you must know someone who is. How could this have happened. By the way, those who blame Obama must have forgotten that he doesn't vote on the floor of the House of Representative or Senate, where the action is. But we voted for Republicans. Obama was voted in because people were discusted and embarrassed by the cowboy from texas who played president, while we were drowning. Obama was elected because of his desire for major health care reform, reigning in financial abuses that brought us to our knees, etc. etc. He is being blamed for compromising, well what else is he supposed to do----remember! WE HAVE A CONGRESS AND WE VOTED FOR REPUBLICANS, thats the bottom line. We are either stupid or have a death wish. I am a 67 year old Social Worker who worked for 47 years. I got layed off with no pension and savings that will last me about 6 months. The good news is that I have Social Security (the Republicans have not succeeded in destroying it--well, not yet!).My Social Security check is just enough to pay my rent and that's it. Without unemployment insurance what am I and millions of others going to do. Another election like the last one will be the last nail in the coffin. The cost of living increase in Social Security was denied because we are told the economy is flat and there has been NO rise in living costs. I guess no one told the landlords who got approval for rent increases, utility costs that continue to rise, health insurance copays and deductibles are increasing, car insurance, gas.... Is that not an increase in the cost of living!! So now that I and millions of others are unemployed, many over 65, we are at the mercy of the Republicans whose major efforts are to secure tax cuts for you know who, destroy social security, medicare, etc. The face of the silent majority in this country has changed--its us!

    ReplyDelete
  74. 5:25 I will tell you how this happend!

  75. 21 months on UI, hundreds of resumes, 2 attempts to start a home business, car repossessed, 2 adults living on $1200 a month, rent to pay, etc. We know how to pinch a penny until Abe hollers! We're tough now! We know how to get by on basically nothing and when we have ANYTHING extra, we appreciate it like it's "Christmas x 10". We also know the power of love, courage, prayer, and just plan refusal to sink and die off. We've "lost it all" and the last shoe could drop at any moment! All of us, we're all tough as nails and we will survive!

As for you employed that insult us, call us lazy, tell us to quit whining, treat us like we are the scum of the earth: you won't stand a chance to survive the way we have because we have gotten darn good at it and we know how to do it. Your time is coming...this Depression is going to effect everyone if UI is cut off permanently.

  76. It amazes me that Americans can be so cold towards their fellow country people who are unemployed. Believe me, it were you, you'd think differently. The people who are unemployed are not lazy bums, they are folks who have worked for years and are now laid off. What would you have them do if there are no jobs for them. Remember they paid into unemployment insurance when they worked.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Well if they don't do something, people will be dying of starvation in the streets of the USA. Desperation leads to crime and even less available jobs. Those who have jobs need to bow down each day and thank God because it could be them on the UI line.
America can spend billions on everything and anything but it's own people. Shame on us.

  83. As I read all these comments about unemployed, God Bless America, the land of the free. Which those words need to be changed.
I am like millions of America, depending on the Unemployment. Over 50 years old, been out of work since Nov. 2008, and have a family that has bills to pay. I already cashed in my 401k, lost my home, living with my elderly parents, and raising a child alone (not by choice, my husband died 13 years ago.) Okay I get very little help from social securtiy for my son, but because I made to much money I got nothing. Now, that I am out of work, I still get nothing. No unemployment that will end Dec 5th, no survivors benefits for myself, to young to retire, I get nothing.
If the people in Washington had to live our lives, THE UNEMPLOYED, at any time soon, they would see that we are not lazy. Because after their time they serve in office, they still have money coming in, example our past President's do we hear them crying having no money to live on, no they travel all over the world, write books (sell millions), and live in homes we all could live in for our unemployment checks for a long, but not to long (what their home is worth). Do they care, it does not matter to them, again because they will never have to be in our shoes, homeless, starving, and belittled by many.
I take pride in who I am, where I try very hard to teach my son, that politics is something we really do not talk about, because they do not care about us here in America, we just are the ones who are first in line to help countries out because of a terrible accident (earthquake, floods, etc). That Americans today are doing everything humanly possible to stand tall. So, before we help other countries out, give us that food, clothes, and money.
Okay, the news will state that unemployment is down, truthfully not, because so many of us 99ers have nothing coming in. So we no longer count as being the unemployed, just nobody. We do count, we still have to live. Just fighting harder, to be an American.
Okay, brief history. If I remember right, the depression. Businesses closed, banks had no money, people still survived barely. Where today most of them are in Mid 70's and up. Today we call that a recession. Why, because banks still have money, but does not share. Businesses still have people working for them, for some peanuts, people still survive, but homeless, starving and sick. Now what really is the difference between the great Depression and now the great Recession.
I hope for all the people that may read this and have a job, good for you, I am happy for you, you can go home and tell your family, Steak dinner is in store tonight.(Enjoy, that is something right now could buy a gallon of milk and a loaf of bread) But for those people who read this and is unemployed (99ers), God Bless you, somehow, someway, we will have nothing to call our own, I raise my cup of water (which right now is all I can afford) to you, I will hold my head up, and say I am proud to be an
    Unemployed American.
SO FOR ALL THOSE WHO STATES WE ARE LAZY, how can you say you are proud to be an American. Because you are not in our shoes. FOR ALL THE POLITICAN out there, can you please find it in your heart to share you wealth and give us the extention that is needed.

There are some that go from site to site and want attention. I think people are referring to them as "Trolls." Everything they say doesn't make any sense. They don't have an opinion, which you could respect, they are out to bash and redicule. We know who they are. It is going to take a long time to recover from this economy and that is all we can focus on. The World is watching this, and I'm not so proud of our Government, especially the Repugs.

  98. And yet there are so-called "friends" and "family" who still love to tell us all about their vacations, what all they are buying for Christmas for themselves and their families, and how much they spent on that "much needed" cruise to Mexico.

Yep. The same folks who know we are struggling just to buy groceries, medicine, and lost our cars, credit, and fear eviction or loss of our home. THEY KNOW because we have told them, and THEY STILL DON'T GET IT! I even know a few who are paying thousands of bucks out of pocket to travel to do "mission work" with their churches to Central America to "spread the gospel", but won't give a dime to help their friends or family buy groceries, gas, or pay utilities.

I think that average people are clueless and in denial about what is going on JUST LIKE THE POLITICIANS.

It's like the little kid who says, "If I close my eyes the boogie man will go away."

We don't exist because they choose to "see" us.

Thing is, it's gonna come back and bite all of them in the butt real soon.

There are the people out there that collected on my money. Not once did I complain. It probably was your mother, father, aunt, uncle. Someone close to you has used this system for means of survival. All the sudden everyone forgets that at one time or another it has hit their home. They were lucky that the country was not in the shape it is now and probably found a job. Now that I cannot find a job, I am considered lazy and being told there are jobs out there. Trust me if there were, I would be working. I wish I had the money taken out of my check for 31 years and maybe would not be needing unemployment now.
