Although this is a legal issue only for the state of California, passage of the bill could open up debates throughout the country. If marijuana legalization is passed in California, other states could try to pass the same measure, and throughout the country pot could become legal.
Many of the same arguments exists between legalizing marijuana today and legalizing alcohol towards the end of prohibition. Some say that abuse will become more prevalent, and children will have access to the California ballot measure.
