Prop 203: Arizona Proposition 203 Medical Marijuana Passes. Prop 203 showcased once again that every vote counts. Arizona became the 15th state to legalize medical marijuana, even in the midst of California voters rejecting Prop 19, or the legalization of pot throughout the state, altogether. Now, citizens of Arizona will be able to purchase up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana for personal use every two weeks, and will be able to grow their own marijuana for medicinal purposes if they live more than 25 miles away from a dispensary.
In addition, there can be 1 dispensary for every 10 pharmacies, ensuring that illicit sales of marijuana are minimized.
In order to get a "presciption" for the drug, someone must have a debilitating disease and get a note from a doctor. Although Prop 203 legalizes medical marijuana in Arizona, pot remains illegal at the federal level.
