2010 Unemployment Extension - Angle Angers Unemployed

The 2010 unemployment extension is a hot political topic, so the unemployment extension 2010 should be supported by those running for office this November. However, one Harry Reid Target, Sharron Angle, has called the unemployed "Spoiled."

I guess going from making a decent living to learning to live on less than half what you are used to makes one spoiled.

The Senate has voted down a measure which would continue the unemployment extensions previously initiated by the federal government. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) filed for cloture, but the measure failed 57-42. The bill could be thrown out in the Senate.

Sharron Angle is a Tea Party Favorite. She is quoted as telling a local news source in her state of Nevada "You can make more money on unemployment than you can going down and getting one of those jobs that is an honest job, but it doesn't pay as much."

Not a smart thing to say just months before an election in a state with 14% unemployment as of April 2010.

Many have been in debate over the delicate balance which represents unemployment. In an economic environment such as the one we are experiencing today, one has to wonder how much is too much? One thing is for certain - the current 26 weeks of benefits is far from acceptable.

There is still hope for the longterm unemployed. If a petition that is circulating gains enough ground, it will be hand delivered to the President, at which point there is hope that he will sign an executive order extending benefits to the unemployed. Such a move would win him points with the millions of Americans, and would likely be remembered fondly during the 2012 elections.

  1. No one in congress will lose sleep tonight over worry about paying next month bills or putting food on the table. I am 55 and have never been out of work until now. My Unemployment benefits are not enough as it is, even with a part time job , and now thanks to the GOP I will lose that. I have always been a republican and now feel abandoned by the party I have always supported. REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER who cared and who didnt. The republicans are on a suicide mission, losing all the ground gained for Nov.

  5. Basically I feel there is only three positive options people on unemployment can do everyday right now.

    1. Goes without saying but apply to as many job positions online and off as possible. Use Linkedin.com to network, go to networking meetings in your local city, hire a professional resume/cover letter writer to help your resume/cover letter stick out from the masses.

    2. Be creative...try starting your own internet or home based business yourself or with a group of people. Guess who the best boss is...YOU!

    3. Use this poweful list below and email, call, fax, mail, Twitter, Facebook all these people daily. Then do the same thing for your state senators, governor, mayor, congressman and city council members.

In the ancient Roman days, do you know what was the most powerful force? Not the Emperor or the Senate, it was the MOB!

  6. I am going to survive this, but it is going to be very very difficult. I am hoping to emigrate to Canada as soon as i finish school in 2 years. I can no longer justify supporting this system in its current state, nor will I resort to violence. The last thing I want is to be incarcerated in America. I see this as my only viable option to stop paying into this corrupt and bloated system.
    God bless you all.

  7. To marginalize the unemployed is never a good idea. No one I know is living large on unemployment.

I would like to take away this woman's savings, give her the exhorbitant amount the average person gets on unemployment and tell her to try and exist for 8 weeks on that alone.

Where I live those "honest" jobs are taken.

She has an awful lot to say in hateful language that does not bode well for the american people.

OK I am not a rocket scientist (or I'd prob be able to get a job) BUT WHY CAN"T THEY BREAK OFF THE UNEMPLOYMENT PART AND PASS IT ALONE LIKE THE OTHER ONE THEY PASSED?HELLO even thr Rep party say they would pass it ALONE. Help us and stop just looking after your own selfish needs senators. GEEZE That Snowe lady said she would have passed it a long time ago if it was pulled out alone from this bill. Many others who are Rep said same thing many times.

  13. My lousey 26 weeks of unemployment with no extension-- due to how the government SEGRAGATED my eligiblity, will soon cost me my home. A person over fifty with certian physical restrictions is not a shoe in with any employer who can afford to be picky. My income for the month of June was 210.00. The cost of what some Senators pay for their lunch.I will rally large supporters come election time, and for every senator that mercilessly cost me my home, I will be sure you are voted out and can't do this to another american. Accusing the unemployed of being lazy and on drugs is appalling. There is more infadelity and drug use by politions with thick wallets and hush money than any poor American who has worked all their life in middle class America

Now, through absolutely no fault of my own I'm struggling to pay my bills and keep food on the family table. No joke, my family is suffering because the ruling elite robbed their fellow citizens. I wonder if these SOBs have ever done an honest days work. The events of the last couple of years are a crime,in fact, strictly speaking it is organized crime and millions of people like myself are victoms.May God damn the republicans to hell!

I know a bunch of guys that collect the checks while working under the table. Very profitable apparently, they laugh in my face. This is going on for 2 1/2 years. How much longer should the extension go on ? 5 years, 10 ? Sounds like (very) early retirement !

  20. To the person who said their friends collected while working. Okay, it's wrong and unethical and should have been reported immediately, However, you don't get to paint us all with the same brush. It's as wrong as your crooked friends.

  21. You can't go off a small majority. A few people taking unemployment checks and working under the table? Who cares. If they were making anything before they were unemployed, it still doesn't compare. Most of the unemployed are looking for jobs frantically and living off of the puny government paycheck in the mean time. To take that away isn't going to cause them to get a job any faster. It is just going to make more people lose their houses. In turn there will be less spending because the people who are using these checks to buy groceries and commodities will not be able to do so. This will in turn further hurt the economy, and there will be less jobs because of it. If people aren't buying a businesses product, then the business isn't going to continue to hire additional employees. This is a downward spiral. If Congress does not act before the July 4th recess, I fear there will be major political activism, possibly violent, and I myself would not be surprised, nor would I feel bad because Congress deserves punishment for it's inability to pass this important bill.

  25. Thank you for the information, especially in your last paragraph. I have been researching the Presdent's ability to give executive orders in times of emergency and great need. The Constitution addresses this issue. Roosevelt created the New Deal with such an order during the Depression. I do hope the President sees the need to do this. I do not understand why Congress keeps creating bills that are stockpiled. Why can't they just write a bill for the extension of unemployment and take care of the other issues separately? I am becoming a political activist because of this. I have never been particularly interested in politics before, but when millions suffer because of the insensitivity of its representatives, it's time for me to make a move.

  26. So congress throws out the baby with the bathwater? I don't think the issue is unemployed criminals. If you know people that are collecting unemployment and working for pay under the table then YOU SHOULD HAVE REPORTED THEM. The overwhelming unemployed have NO other source of income despite no fault of our own and our best efforts to find emplo1ment.

Just applied at Pappa Murphy's Take and Bake Pizza. Minimum wage and only 12 to 15 hours per weeks. Yes, I have a degree and 33 years of succesful business experience and have been out of work for 20 months. Friends tell me they love me and are inspired by my fortitude and determination to find ANY kind of employment.

  29. I'm not a rocket scientist. (If I was I would probably be working in Mcdonalds grossly underpaid my worth) The politics that is taking place in our white house ought to cause public outrage. Folks who collected a measley 26 weeks now combinded with the 99ers are looking for jobs together in a market that doesn't exist. Those with the impressive degrees and are young age will get that janitor position that has several applicants. Do the math... Middle aged Americans are screwed. It was bad enough that we worked all our life paying into social security that we probably would never receive. Other countries are laughing at America and the idiots who are running our country to the ground. Two classes of people. Rich and poor. Dangerously similiar to the very counties we are at war with.

  31. This country doesn't care how we suffer. No jobs now no more unemployment. I guess when our bodies cover the streets because of starvation, no homes to shelter our bodies in the winter months, no insurance to pay for medical conditions, then just maybe they will grow tired stepping over us. God knows they've been stepping on us for years. Of course they could care less how the common people suffer. They have high paying jobs and big fine homes. How they sleep knowing WE paid for all they have and WE have nothing amazes me....

This is not over we will not go away this is affecting 1.5 million people today and thousands more everyday do they really think this is not going to spill over into blood shed at some point. God forbid. Its not over folks the worse is just around the corner and you won't have to look for it, its coming to you and the rest of us. I hope I am wrong.

  33. We've already moved in with family because we couldn't our own place anymore. We've gone through our savings, and i've already used the little that I had set aside for retirement. As it was, with unemployment we barely got by.

Now I don't know what we're going to do. I've never drawn more than 6 weeks of unemployment in 20 years. Now that I truly need it I'm spoiled.

I don't know what I'm going to do.

  34. Oh my God. Something has to happen soon. I read these comments from people and I am in the same boat. It scares me to see all of this around me, besides the man in the gulf that talked to CBS news how many more people are going to shoot theirselves in the head before this is over. I am in the middle of selling stuff out on the street corner, and listing on ebay until I have no internet next week. Then I will go to the library by bus because I wont have gas or insurance for my car. I am 50 and it is true - no one wants an older worker that can't lift or go as fast as the younger ones can. I have worked all of my life, put into unemployment compensation with each paycheck, and this is how I am treated now. Shame on the government, they are like little children that can't get along and play nice. Look out November it will be the unemployed's payback.

    ReplyDelete
  35. In my county in California the unemployment rate is above 20%. Each job posting gets hundreds of resumes submitted. Hopes of getting work are very dismal on any level. I am an older worker with some physical problems, so my chances are even slimmer. Right now my husband & I are struggling to keep our home. Losing the unemployment check I have been getting will put us over the edge for sure. We won't be able to keep paying our bills. I heard Obama sent 400 million to Palestine recently by executive order. Why can't he make an executive order to help the unemployed??? That would have true meaning to the american people. Isn't our president supposed to have a heart for his own countrymen? These senators have no idea what life is like out here!!! No votes from me for any of them that voted against helping their own american citizens!!

I filled it out and sent it back only to find out that the whole thing was a scam. I had to call the credit bureau and fill out a police report. I am losing my only income one month short of the end of school. I have given up. I went ahead and applied for my Social Security retirement benefits this morning. I will lose about $300 a month by filing early, but I have no choice. I have to have something to live on. Instead of finishing school and getting a reasonably well paying job, I am limited to about $14,000 a year before I am charged for making too much money. How is that going to help the economy.

I cant believe they are going to let this happen to millions of hard working Americans paying the price for the decisions made by the Republicans during their reign with Bush, deregulation of the stock market, bank bail outs, war, and on and on. They do not deserve to go on a 15 day PAID vacation until they figure this out instead of bickering like a bunch of babies. Take the unemployment extension out ot the huge bill and treat it like it is Emergency Spending instead of trying to get your other wish list passed, even though everything in the bill is important, the Extension is and emergency and should be treated that way. I am 100% behind Harry Reid but the way he says oh well thats that really makes me mad and dont even get me started on the Republicans, they will all be voted out in November when I vote no matter who they run against....

  57. In California, where people are begging for jobs, the Employment Development Department has the nerve to send people letters telling them to sign up for welfare and get help from other social services. That's pretty funny when you consider Arnold announced he's cutting those programs too. What we are headed for is a nation full of destitutes while the wealthy sprint away to their holiday estates oblivious to it all. Oblivious isn't the right word. After all, it was a certain Mrs. Vanderbilt who detested going to her Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. It's said she hated being in the country away from the sophisticates in the city and being stuck around farm-folk. The poor can be such an insult to the tender sensibilities of the very wealthy.
It's true there are some legitimate philanthropists, but none of them are in politics. We will become a country of the very wealthy and the very poor. It seems painfully obvious to me we're going backwards and not forward in prosperity for the average American citizen.
People are losing their homes left and right, but there are laws and ordinances against being homeless. Homeless people are unsightly. And they could be dangerous. (Dangerous happens when people have nothing left to lose).
People who have worked, paid taxes all their lives, and lost their jobs just being pushed aside "until the dust settles"? I don't see the dust settling anytime soon. I don't think they want the dust to settle. It's easier to pretend you can't see what's going on when there's a good dust storm. I think they prefer the dust.
    That's just my personal opinion.
    I'm feeling pretty jaded.
My daughter has worked for the same company for 6 years and they just cut her hours in half. The company isn't making money. That will be happening more and more and she's applied for everything with no luck.
She can't even move back home because I'm losing my house and I have a younger son to provide for.
No one want to live this way. It's not laziness. There are more unemployed people every day and more people getting their hours cut and there is no salvation in sight for any of it. People who have their comfy lives don't understand the reality of the situation. It will show up on their door steps in one way or another sooner or later.

God bless us all. We need it.

Where is the god damn humanity in the United States of Fucked Up America?

  64. It’s not just the Republicans but also the Democrats, they are both to blame. Their pride won’t let them give up anything. Republicans just want to know where the money is coming from and the democrats won’t say. I’ve been without a job for 15 months now and LOOKING hard to find one in my field, banking, there is nothing. I lost my unemployment this week. Our official NEED to think about us the vetoing citizens.

    ReplyDelete
  65. First of all, The Republicans ARE to blame. Everytime the Democrats try to do something for us...The REPUBLICANS DEMAND A FILLABUSTER!!!

That means they need 60 votes! Do you know how many times the republican senators have done this since President Obama took office? OVER 100 TIMES! It's more times than all the other presidents combined! And this is only 18 months into his Presidency. The Republican don't want him in office.....PERIOD! So, they will make him ineffective, and starve US!

This is by far the most disgraceful thing I've ever witnessed in my 54 years. And NOBODY is living large on 300.00 a week...You MORONS!

  69. No mob rule, please, though I am angry, too. When I found out today that my meager UE benefits were not distributed and have not been distributed for over 2 weeks now, I spent much of my day emailing Republican senators with a quiet but affirmative message: we know who you are. There are NO EXCUSES for doing this to people who don't ask for much after we went thru paying for wars we shouldn't have fought and paying taxes after taxes for embedded fees for our cell phones all the way to what used to be a 75 cent 12 ounce cup of coffee two years ago that now goes for $1.30 -Starbucks? No. Just the ordinary convenience store stuff. Inflation? You tell me.

We were robbed. But the real indignity is that we have been robbed of our self-respect after spending years paying our taxes and putting in our Social Security and Medicaid and Medicare taxes while Wall Street cleaned our clocks.

  70. The republican senators are always preaching about they want what's best for the AMERICAN PEOPLE, but in serious time like what we are facing now, they cut off the unemployment benefits. You have to wonder do they really know how bad it is out here in the real world, APPARENTLY NOT.

I do feel like I am getting better and do want to work again but Congress canot just stop cold turkey without any advanced warning.

They need to continue these benefits along with health insurance till the end of this year...at least and maybe even longer (or until the economy gets better).

  102. When the poor become disenfranchised to the point of feeling no hope they rebel.. Unfortunately that is how powerful dictators come into power. Look at Chavez in Venezuela. He was voted in to a seemingly stable Democratic government and because of the treatment of the poor people by the rich minority he was able to convert to extreme socialism within a few short years. Same thing happened in Germany, that's how Hitler came to power.

People do not realize that our democracy is fragile and can be voted out. There is no set checks and balances to prevent it. Once liberty is gone it is almost impossible to retrieve back.

Be careful what you vote for. Know who you are voting for and what their issues are and their background. It could very well happen to us before we know it.

  106. I have been phoning Senators offices for the past week explaining my situation.
I was laid off last November, and have just expired my first 6 months of UI.
I have 3 really good job prospects, but none of them start until late July or early August.
But, if this bill doesn't pass, I will not have the money to pay my rent in July.
I am driving without the legally required car insurance and with expired licence tags.
So, I would like to propose a few things:
First, if anybody gets evicted starting July 1st, let's start taking over the Senator's offices....use them to sleep in, send faxes, use the phones and their computers to find work.
Second, when we do find work, claim 99 exemptions. I REFUSE to pay any more taxes!! Remember the old saying 'No taxation without representation'?? Well, it is VERY obvious that Americans have no representation!!
Third, if this bill does not pass, let's make sure that this 4th of July is the SECOND one that NO AMERICAN will EVER FORGET!!
We can afford to GIVE Pakistan $7.5 BILLION to arm and train Taliban to kill AMERICAN soldiers.....we can afford to GIVE Egypt $7 Billion, we can afford to GIVE Haitian earthquake victims over $2 BILLION dollars, we can afford to GIVE $30 MILLION to Palestinian refugees...
We CAN AFFORD to keep the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest 1 percent of the country.
We CAN AFFORD to bail out Wall Street and buy GM.
But we CAN'T AFFORD to take care of middle class AMERICANS who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own???
And this is being decided by people that 'We the People' are paying!!!
'We the People' are ALLOWING these people to GIVE our tax dollars away to others, but they won't help us??? With OUR OWN MONEY????
I am absolutely ASHAMED of the Senators and to be called an American!!!
And Senators.....you should be ASHAMED of YOURSELVES!!!
Even more so if you consider yourself a 'christian'!!!
Would jesus ALLOW people to be thrown out of their homes and apartments??
Would he ALLOW them to go hungry???
And yet FUND a 9 YEAR war, in which thousands of innocents have been killed??

  107. Progressives know no party allegiance. There are progressive Democrats and Republicans. Unfortunately, many voting choices will be the lesser of two evils rather than right or wrong. Like all Tea Party candidates, Angle wants the spending to significantly slow down which is a good thing. Why she would say something as stupid as those on unemployment are spoiled" is beyond comprehension and shows a total lack of touch with what things are like in the US today.

Of course we are not lazy. Who wants to be sitting at home all day instead of working everyday and making good money? Those kind of uncaring people are just crazy and have mental problems.

  110. Almost every Republican said over and over that if this was a stand alone bill they would have voted for it. I spoke to a Senator today and stated that I want to address Congress, as I am sure thousands of others wish to do, and let them know what it is like to walk in our shoes. I told him I'd love to have at least 1 agree to do just that - walk in our shoes - they won't because it is beneath them ! I was told we can not address Congress ????????? Correct me, if I am wrong, BUT aren't the member of Congress "elected officials" by "The People"??? Also I tried to call a number of Senators who voted "NAY" and I was given the brush off - no one would even give me the chance to say anything at all - they don't give a crap - bottom line ! But please explain to me what I am missing here - why can't we address Congress?

Try 1/4 of my normal wage. What a $*%&$*# bimbo. I did not grow up with a connected mommy or daddy, or even relatives, family to help. I put myself through undergrad and graduate school, while working full time, and caregiving night and day. DID SHE DO THAT? So Sick of Republicans who don't have a clue and only see the nose in front of their face. police jobs, education and people with severe disabilities. The Republicans are also to blame for BP. Until our Congress decides to end these extensions, the unemployment problem will get worse and worse. You may not realize it now, but having your unemployment benefits cut off will be good for you. It will make you dependent on yourself for a living rather than Uncle Sam.

  133. My name is MJ and this is to Anonymous: You have no clue ! Evidentally you have employment. Have you ever heard the expression "walk a day in my shoes" ? - TRY IT ! I am 55 years old, unemployed since June 2009, only got to Tier 1, worked since I was 14 yrs old - WITHOUT losing a job - I have put in 292 resumes through the UE Career Link, 130 from newspaper ads - had two interviews -WOW -both hired someone younger. As I told a senator today, McDonalds & Wendy's have made it known - they will NOT hire anyone over 21, at this time. I am working at Little Casears, making 100.00 a week. As of today I have lost my apartment, will lose my car, I have lost everything - no savings left - nothing ! I can not even put food on the table every week. So live in our shoes before you go and judge the unemployed ! The government created this sutuation in the first place - I was always taught - you make your wrongs right - NOT make your wrongs worse.

  134. People in this country can hardly say recession. Soon they will need to say depression. My unemployment benefits stopped after I was told I was eligible for the tier 3 extension. Today I applied for general relief (a polite term for welfare) and food stamps. Which way to the line for the soup kitchen? God bless us all.

    ReplyDelete
  135. I'll bite. To those who think the extension of benefits promotes laziness or poor economic policy, explain your situation. Are you retired? Has no one in your life been unemployed this year? Unemployment has touched, in some fashion, every family on my middle class street.

  136. I come from a long line and large southern family of Conservative Republican voters, after this I am not sure how we will vote! My family phoned me yesterday and stated if they vote it down, we don't vote them back! How stupid can they be? Don't they see the majority of folks in America support the extensions, I quess all they want is the small rich vote. I was so upset to hear some of them call us, Hobo's, drug addicts, oh and by the way Hatch I don't do drugs and I don't think $300 a week would get me much anyway...what a jerk. The repubs made a huge mistake yesterday and I hope that President Obama will do something within his power, although he does not seem to be too interested himself. I am in my org 26 weeks and will lose my benefits the first week of August, I won't get any tiers like others have unless something is done. I hope I have a job. I am 49yrs old with a degree worked for the past 31 years and lost my job thru no fault of my own. I have applied for over 500 jobs, even those under my unemployment pay amount just to try to get work and get my foot in the door somewhere. I have had one interview, could not even get a job cleaning hospital rooms! Just wait till the crime wave from this decision starts and it will, not from me but folks will do anything when it comes to feeding and supporting their families. Maybe we should all pitch a tent in Washington and line the stairs as the Senators come into work and beg for help, I quess that is what they want!

  142. Borrowed from anotehr poster on another site:

    1. Angle is correct - in Nevada it is the specific charter of the Lt. Governor to attract new industry and jobs to Nevada. Angle has often said in the same (truncated quote) that her job as a SENATOR is to help provide a business-friendly environment at a NATIONAL level, thus helping not only Nevada, but the entire country.

    2. Check out Harry Reid's embarrassing record on national employment: in February 2009, when the $800 BILLION stimulus bill was in Congress, the House voted 407 to 2 to require the use of E-Verify for all contracts awarded under the bill. Pretty bipartisan and patriotic, huh?? Spending tax revenue on jobs for Americans, not illegal aliens.

But what did Harry do as Senate majority Leader? He personally blocked all attempts to have a vote on SA 239 - the same amendment as the House - to require the use of E-Verify. Result: 15% of all construction jobs went to illegal aliens instead of American citizens.

So who helped create jobs for Americans? Not Harry Reid, that's for sure. And you choose to criticize Angle? Wrong target this time.

More than wanting this extension, I want a full-time job. I cannot believe we are in a sinking boat and they are hesitant about tossing us a lifeline.

  146. Anyone who votes Republican and is not one of the richest 3% of people in America is out of their mind. The senate needs 60 votes to pass a bill, the Democrats have only 59 not enough of a majority.
I live in Nevada and I would not vote for Engle if they gave me a million dollars or had a gun to my head. Will I vote Harry Read, it deppends if he can find a way to to get this bill passed.
The unemployment bill can't be passed as stand alone the way some Republicans want, because it would also give the veto power on any spending to keep vital government services going later this year. The way they have been behaving they would probably destroy the country in an effort to make Obama and the Democrats look bad.
Comon Hary let's get creative and find a way to get an extention with 14% unemployment we need it.

  147. I worked my last job for 16 years. For he last 3 months there I worked for no pay, because they couldn't afford to pay me. I devoted my time in hopes the company would recuperate. It didn't. Today I finally had an interview and was BEGGING for this job. I have been through this before and have lost confidence I will be called back. Yet to congress I am considered lazy and a drug addict? It's a damned cold world out there. My husband is also unemployed because we worked for the same company. I have a family. I am a decent human being. I am ready to end it all. I don't know how my family will bury me, no money for that...but, WHO CARES???? Certainly not the fat cats sitting on their asses judging us. I have sunk into such a deep depression I don't think I can ever be the same. I am a diabetic and have no insulin, so if I continue on I face blindness, amputations, kidney failure. I might as well go now with whatever shred of dignity I have left.

I don't have any family/friends who are in the same boat I am so I really haven't had anyone to understand my situation. It's been a long 1.5 years but tonight I feel as though there are others out there who can truly relate to me (not that I've been blind to the unemployment numbers.)

  149. As much money that is spent by our government all over the world in relief to other countries, wars, humanitarian aid and more, far outweighs the small amount that is spent to help our own fellow Americans. The government is making a choice to stop helping their own! We are already way over our heads in debt and no new burst of quality jobs are being created. Companies are learning how to operate will less and expect more from their employees and not receiving any big incentive to hire.

Unemployment extension is not the solution by any means but it does keep things from diminishing to quick or having the economy crash with over 10% of Americans suddenly out of cash to pay their lenders or inject money into society. This will have a trickle effect to other business and companies when the life line value to families is shut off.

The true solution is to give the rich incentives or tax breaks to invest or put their money at risk to make more money which will create new jobs. The “rich” or big companies already have their money and are being very tight with it for they see no reason to put it at risk with such small rewards.

An old saying, “I’ve never had a poor person give me a job”.

If the rich is not given a better option to invest or grow our society they will just take their ball and go home until things are in their favor while the rest of us suffer from poor “New Change” decisions.

  151. so many republicans made it lucrative to send all jobs overseas... so big company executives can get cheap labor, tax incentives, and basically richer than they were. so a middle class guy like me has to suffer while i try to pay my mortgage and support my family so a rich person can get richer.. i know that is the republican way it's very sad. my job didn't stop being done it just moved to india. i cannot find work in my field as i've been an IT professional and programmer for 15 years.. i feel like i'm expected to go to walmart and work as a greeter or there is something wrong with me... oh no there is nothing wrong with the fact that we make nothing in america and that we outsourced everything... oh no that's fine... the problem is me... stop giving everything to china, brazil, and india...

  152. America sucks! Why don't all of us unemployed folk (those who no longer have dependent children only) just show up at our local bank on Monday morning and inform the teller that we are unemployed and please put all your money in a bag for me. Then we sit down on the floor and wait for the police to come arrest us. Then we get to go to prison where at least we won't be homeless. Maybe the Senators will begin to realize that it will cost much more to build enough prisons and house all these unemployed felons than just passing the fricking bill. Another option. We find out the residence of our Senators and pitch tents in their front yards. We get arrested for loitering, go to jail, serve whatever time that gets us (all while being fed and sheltered). Then when we get out, we take our tent back to the Senator's front yard and camp out until arrested again. The whole family can go on that camping trip.

  154. I am so sorry for everyone on unemployment, now that an extension has been voted down. I am barely hanging on, trying to support myself and children. I've been on unemployment for 6 months and can't find anything that pays enough to survive. I've worked all my life, my youngest child leaves for college in the fall, I'm just hoping I can hang on long enough not to humiliate him by moving him in with relatives before he has to leave home. After that, I don't really care what happens to me, death is becoming in a way. No worries, no more stress, and no more government and big corporations destroying my life.

  155. I am a Democrat, and yes, I heard Obama speak, I believed what he said, but I am VERY disappointed in the fact that he has let this go on for so long without addressing it , or taking action himself. I am unemployed and have been applying for jobs every single day. I have been keeping up with the unemployment extension news when I get home from job hunting. thank goodness I still have a home for now. So here is the news in the order that it came on today in my city of Atlanta Georgia, which has a statewide unemployment rate of 10.4%.

Fox 5 News at 5 Coverage in the order that it appeared

    Weather Warning
    BP oil spill news
    TV commercial
    Weather follow up
Kayak tips over in Chatahouchie River
Morehouse College students die in car crash
Car accident on Flat Shoals road causes back up traffic
Police officer loses job for mishandling firearms
    TV Commercial
    Home invasion robbery
    Sexual predator wanted
Arrest made in connection with a bomb threat
    Traffic watch
    TV Commercial
    Weather storm update
    7 day weather forecast
Michael Jackson 1 year death anniversary
Obama at E3 summit in Canada
Unemployment story finally airs for exactly 14 seconds (timed it with a stopwatch)

This is how much coverage we get, how serious people in the media are taking it and how much us and all Americans struggling because of this, means to the rest of the world. Let's sneak over to Mexico, become citizens over there and sneak back into America. Then , and only then, will we receive the assistance that we need it seems. American't sound more appropriate at this point.

  156. Sharron Angle - apparently you have NO earthly clue what it's like to be unemployed since you're living high on the hog on taxpayers' money! You are pathetic to even say anything about an "honest" job - given the fact of what you do every day! Don't even utter the word "honest" to any of us. Just remember - what goes around, comes around! This will come home to you and you shall remember your insensitive words.....

  157. I was on unemployment for 13 months because I lost my job when it was shipped out of the country. I have been unable to find work in this current economical crisis. My kids and I have to eat at soup kitchens, sleep in homeless shelters, and we even resorted to eating food out of the trash bins of restaurants after they close. We hitchhiked from Lansing Michigan to Akron Ohio, which is not any better, but I can stay with my college buddy for a few weeks. I do not know what my next move is, but I got to figure it out for my kids. They depend on me, and I trusted my elected officials to help us out in our time of need. If they let me down, fine, I can survive, but how can I teach my kids to love a country that turned their backs on us. If my wife were still alive, I would be stronger, but since her death last year, it's been one thing after another. America needs to change it's name to American't.

I am highly educated (have my MBA) and a good resume but it is just not enough. I have sent out hundreds of resumes and have been on a total of two interviews...it's ridiculous! I am single and struggling to survive....I could not imagine having children and a mortgage. My heart goes out to all the people with families who are in this horrible position. Also I have noticed alot of people who are over 50 that have lost jobs they have held for 10 to 20 years through sketchy circunstances. I think these compaines dont these older workers because of the health care cost. Its a dirty shame that these compaines just throw these working people away like there old obsolete equiptment.

  169. This is not the end of this matter. Those infants in DC will not have the last word. We are the people of the USA and will not tolerate this insanity. There are highly intelligent and highly educated and experienced persons of many types that have become a victim of the senseless unthinkable actions of the out of touch senate. They will not have the last word in this. This Bill will be passed. We unemployed (by reasons not our fault) are not a bunch of 12 yr olds being sent to our rooms. This is the real world and the only persons who are not following the reality of the real world we live in are the ignorant blind senators who allowed this unconscionable action to happen last night. There is too much on the table now, too many families without hope or any income. You don't all of a sudden pretend you care about deficit spending by taking the money away from those who need it the most. I am 46 years old with many years of professional experience in more than one field of work. I have found it nearly impossible to land a job. It is time for the President to stand up and do what is right for the people who are the heartbeat of this country. I grew up in a time when this nation was much stronger, much prouder and would never allow a day like we have seen before us ever exist. I miss that country. We desperately need integrity, values, and a sense of pride back. Too many jobs and industries have left this country and are gone for good. We used to produce some of the finest products in the world, now it has come to this. God help us.

That's fine for a High School or college kid for the summer. Try being the major bread winner for a family of 3 and surviving on that "Honorable" job. I don't care what anyone says, YOU CAN'T!! I can't afford to go to school to learn new skills. I have worked to hard and in addition did 20+ years in the Marine Corps Reserves. Because I was in the Reserves, I can't even collect my military pension until I'm 60. I'm good enough to be shot at but not good enough to get my pension when I retire. To put it simply, they (the politician) DO NOT CARE enough about the people who put them in office. If they did, no monies would be going overseas to support other countries, i.e. Haiti etc. THAT money should be here for the people who paid into the system. WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THIS COUNTRY AND OUR PRIORITIES??????????

It's THEIR fault that they are unemployed and that the economy is what it is. The economy is showing signs of recovery but without this I have a feeling that the true recession will now kick in and we could end up facing a tough road for the next 2 to 3 years. Jobs still are not there for those that need them. Unemployed are not screwing the system, they were screwed by the system! Rich money hungry wall street people who didn't care what would happen to others if it meant they could make a boat load of money. Policiticans need to get there heads out of there asses and get this extension through the end of the year done. Get jobs created that last longer then 3 months and stop bitching about deficit spending, because let's be honest the deficit will never be paid off. Morons is what they are and they know it too!

  177. I'm sick of this crap. I'm tired of restitution, too little too late, being lied to and raped for every dollar I have, then thrown out on the street. Nobody really DOES anything anymore, that is the problem with the world - there are more jobs reappropriating the little we do have, then actually generating anything valuable. Congratulations America, we are all officially government pawns. Everybody is too stupid and comfortable to care or see how things are falling apart around them. Well when people have to commit crimes in order to survive, I think by then it will not only be too late to stop, but GLARINGLY OBVIOUS. Dogs live better than I do thanks to the good almighty government - who is infalliable and always right. I for one am going to be happy to watch the fall of society. Maybe when Mad Max becomes a reality, none of this will matter - because their will be no government. The revolution is coming! You messed UP!

My heart goes out to all that have lost their benefits. I will lose mine in two weeks and it is my only income. I went from 4800 a month to 1720 a month and it is just enough to pay my bills.

My mortgage, credit cards and loans will default.
My utilities will be turned off.
    My pantry will be empty.

I am terrified, stressed to the max, developed an ulcer and I am wondering how I will survive.

My only idea at this point is to get assistance from the state if a job does not open up.

Apply for state programs, food stamps, renal assistance, utility assistance, medical assistance, and whatever I can to survive.
I will be forced to file bankruptcy.

I do multiple applications a week and I do not understand why I am not getting the call backs.

I have never been unemployed for this long in my life (5 months), at the very most it the past it was 7 weeks.

I am a 46 year old divorced caucasion woman with multiple years of experience in my field.

I just want a job that will pay my bills.

By the way my drug of choice is INSULIN, my drink is WATER, I am not lazy, my life has become very small, and I appreciated the 26 weeks of unemployment that I recieved.

Create a job or extend the benefits.

  182. THIS IS ALL THE RESULT OF THE WORST PRESIDENT WE HAVE HAD IN THE LAST 100 YEARS. YES, I AM TALKING OF "DUBYA" BUSH. HE IS THE ONE THAT GOT US IN THE UNNECESSARY WAR IN IRAQ WHICH IS COSTING BILLIONS, NO, MAKE THAT TRILLIANS. HE CREATED AN ATMOSPHERE IN WHICH WALL STREET, THE BANKS AND ALL THE OTHER GREEDY BASTARDS WENT BESERK. HE WAS RESP. FOR THE STUPID HEADS OF MOODYS AND OTHER MONITORING AGENCYS WHO SLEPT THROUGH THE CREDIT MESS. NOW, THIS REPUBLICAN B IS CALLING HARD WORKING AMERICANS WHO LOST THEIR JOBS BECAUSE OF DUBYA & HIS GANG AS LAZY BUMS.
WHAT WE NEED RIGHT NOW IS END OUR PRESENCE IN IRAQ. SAVE THAT WASTE OF MONEY AND INVEST IN OUR OWN COUNTRY AND PEOPLE. THAT PROBABLY WONT HAPPEN BECAUSE OF THE STRONG LOBBY OF THE ARMS MANUFACTURERS WHO HAVE BOUGHT OFF THE GREEDY POLITICIANS. GOD BLESS AMERICA.

  184. I just found out this morning that my last Unemployment check with be this coming Tuesday. I have never been so frieghtened in my life to know that i will have no money coming in at all. My unemployment check just barely covered my mortgage and my car payment leaving no money for household bills and food. I am an educated single female that has worked very hard my entire life and now I can loose it all on a single yes/no vote. After reading which states Senators voted yes and no it is clear to me who is behind the people and who is against the President. I search every single day for a job. I have been out of work just shy 6 months and was to receive 30 weeks and now I found out that I will loose the last 4 weeks and it has been pushed back to 26 weeks. No warning no news articles just a quick blurb. Something MUST be done and done quickly. I will go on every website that I can find to get this message out. This is an outrage and I agree the Republicans just put a nail in their own coffin.

  186. "Put simply, we'll end the days of taxpayer-funded bailouts, and help make sure Main Street is never again held responsible for Wall Street's mistakes," -Obama. June-25-2010

That will be a total 180 degree change in direction from were we are now. Lets see $780 billion dollar bail for banks and corps passed in a week. And for the last 2 months they can't pass the unemployment bill. Obama you need to walk the walk that you preach.

Congress has failed just as much. All of Washington has failed.

I am not one of the unemployed however see the need for Unemployment extensions as a business owner. The fact that Congress cannot find other cuts is unacceptable; they always go after what is needed the most and save their pet projects and Wall Street friends.

Congress needs to be held accountable for the their failure to create a jobs bill and a jobs market. Extending Unemployment is not the answer however it what is needed now.

The Answer is to create jobs, which will take Congress placing higher taxes on any company that out sources jobs over seas, higher taxes on any funds leaving the US and higher tariffs on imports. Until then we have to pay out unemployment for the failure of our leaders.

Support unemployment here, it is one of Change.org highest all time petitions, but yet Congress is blowing it off.

  188. This is awful,

I'm a hardworking American and I'm not even DEPENDANT on unemployment like that. Stupid Republicans talking about "they're spoiled to handouts" or "go get a job" guess what? I'VE BEEN DOING THAT FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS WE BEEN IN FINANCIAL RUIN! Hell, I actually JUST FOUND a job but guess what? MY BENEFITS JUST RAN OUT!

As a result I don't know what I'm gonna do for car fare and things from shutting off since my first check won't be until 2 weeks after I start! I HAVE been working, I've been trying to do the right thing for the longest yet I don't even have enough money to get certified to better compete in this crowded job field of mines and you punish me for trying to make ends meet!

Plain and simple, UNEMPLOYMENT EXTENSIONS WOULDN'T BE A PROBLEM IF THERE WERE JOBS THAT WOULD HIRE! I can't even take a low paying job because my career before layoff and college education LABELS ME AS BEING OVERQUALIFIED, THIS IS WHAT THEY TELL ME!

Screw you idiots in the Senate who can't pass this. The Republicants for sitting in their seats of privilage looking down on us hard workers while the Dems are too indecisive on what to cut to pass this damn thing so we can shut them the hell up and pass this thing. WITH ALL THE CRAP AND FOLKS ARE CRYING ABOUT 35 BILLION? WHAT ABOUT ALL THE BIG COMPANIES AND THEIR BAILOUT MONEY?

YOU GAVE COMPANIES BILLIONS OF DOLLARS ONLY FOR THEM TO CRAP UP AGAIN! Give me a HUNDRED THOUSAND and I'll be sure NEVER to ask for another handout.. EVER. I'm not even asking for THAT, just a few hundred dollars to help me GET TO WORK.. YET BETTER USE THIS DAMN GOVERNMENT CONTROL TO GOOD USE FOR ONCE AND GET COMPANIES TO HIRE HIRE HIRE!

  194. Does anyone know if there is a limit on how many times that they can present this or any bill in Congress?

    ReplyDelete
  195. I hear on another blog that they want Obama to use his Executive Powers. I just read that he cannot, that is why is is telling the Senate to pass this. He can only sign the bill once he has the 60 votes needed.

  197. The pompous Republicans. Holier than Thou. These are the same folks who believe in "Right to Life." How ironic that they wouldn't do squat to help these little newborns when their parents are in trouble and suffering.
They don't want to support big Government...but oh how they back up big business. What a joke our system, totally intent on kicking those that are down.

    Lose your job
    can't pay CC's on time
now stick ya with late fees and higher rates (that'll help ya get back on
    yer feet right?)

    Can't pay your car insurance
Can't look for work without a car
get caught driving without insurance...uh oh
    Tickets up the gazoo...added penalties

Can't pay your mortgage or rent?
Ever notice all the forclosures that are sitting
and rotting? Why aren't banks penalized for the lack of upkeep
of these abandoned properties bringing down the value
    of other homes?

Look at the job ads lately?
    What ads you say?
Looks like minimum wage will soon require a college degree.
What few of those that even exist.
