BP Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico 2010 Update Closes Florida Beaches

The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has closed beaches in Florida, ruining many people's vacation.  The oil spill has closed beaches in Walton and Escambia counties in the panhandle of Florida amid what is typically the busiest time of the year for resorts and other tourist areas around the Gulf region.

Although disappointing, closing a beach keeps people safe from the hazardous fumes and other health hazards posed by the oil.

People are warned not to touch any oil affected water, and those with compromised immune systems are encouraged not to go anywhere near where the oil could have affected waters.   Furthermore, you shouldn't touch any animals that have been killed by the spill.

This is the 67th day that the oil has been spewing into the Gulf, and the situation doesn't appear to be getting any better.  The containment cap that BP placed on the spill broke, and that is causing even more oil to spew into the waters of the Gulf.

Another casualty of the oil spill is starting to be people committing suicide.  Many have seen the devastation caused by the oil and believe that their lives will never be the same.  Entire industries are devastated.  Wildlife is dying off.  Response and cleanup appears to be slow.

The American way of life has been affected by the spill, and BP will be held accountable.  They have already set up a $20 billion escrow account to ensure that all claims are paid and paid in a timely manner.

  1. What about capping the oil spill gush in the Gulf of Mexico with a semi rigid therefore collapsable compartment made out of Kevlar fitted at one end with a pipe to draw the oil from. As the other end is loosely fitted over the oil outpouring it can be tightened mechanically or hydraulically and if edge is reinforced with a malleable material leakage will be minimised as this fills in any nook and cranny when closed. The American Government's recents support for giving credence to Argentina's claims over the Falkland Islands seems to be oil related as oil has been recently found there. In terms of being a colonizing agent Argentina's arrogate can hold as much ground as if it were to claim the USA for itself because of having colonized part of a populated South America in its formation and the Falklands were first inhabited by the French anyway. I hope that USA's leaning towards Argentina's erroneous argumentation has nothing to do with British interests in BP as USA's interest are practically equal.

  4. How about making a tapered pipe with a flange and a larger pipe, it would be a pipe in a pipe. The outside pipe would be about 4 inch. in diameter larger than the inside pipe. You would make a reverse wax ring, i.e. toliet, the inside of the two pipe would be the wax or some other suitable material. The flange would be sliped over the tapered pipe and welded then the larger pipe would be welded to the outside of the flange, This would make a sealed area for the wax. Just lower it down as the tapered pipe slide into the jagget pipe and the wax would seal around it. Sometime the best way is the simplest one. richgravestogo@gmail.com

I've done some thinking on this oil spill situation. It is rightly so that people should be offended and angry. And when one is angry he/she seeks to understand the cause or person to blame for such emotions. The author of this article is right in saying that someone should be held accountable. But I do not believe that all accountability rests on the shoulders of BP. In fact, I believe that the root cause of this problem is not BP, hell it's not even the oil industry. Their employers are chiefly to blame. Who here would work for absolutely nothing? We as consumers of oil have placed a bounty on oil. The first to bring it to us will be paid. Our refusal to embrace change and to demand alternate fuel, our refusal to demonstrate to companies that we no longer wish to use oil is the reason BP is out there drilling and neglectfully destroying our ocean. Every single person reading this, including myself is to blame for our complacency. I know that accepting blame and admitting fault has become as un-American as burning the flag, but maybe just maybe we should start blaming ourselves and in doing so, hope that it will incite in us the action to act more responsibly. The only reason companies get away with the horrendous things they do, is because their consumers pay them to do it.

Also, I want to point out the absurdity of the very first statement in this article: "The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has closed beaches in Florida, ruining many people's vacation." Our coastline is being destroyed... and the first thing the reader of this article should empathize with is that people's VACATIONS are being ruined? How utterly ridiculous is that statement?! Isn't it ironic that our very means of travel to our vacations is not also the very thing spilling into our oceans and Boohoo... it's ruining our vacations... how inconvenient!
