2010 Unemployment Extension and a Political Unemployment Benefits Bill Blame Game

The 2010 unemployment extension is the hot political topic of the day.  The unemployment extension 2010 benefits bill has led to a political blame game that is really taking over Capital Hill.  Of course, you have Republicans blaming Democrats and vice versa but there are some key players that are getting blamed for the mess.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid voted against the unemployment extension.  Before you get up in arms, it was because he has to vote against a failing measure if he wants it to be able to be brought back up.  The final vote of 58-38 represents an actual vote of 59-38, as Reid is for the bill.

However, Reid is getting blamed for the failure to pass the bill.  A Republican Senator offered to vote for the bill if compromises were made.  Among the compromises was to have at least half the bill paid for via unused stimulus funds. Reid didn't make any compromises.

The standoff isn't over the issue of unemployment extensions - it's over funding.  Republicans don't want the tax hikes that will affect small businesses and investment fund managers - they also don't want to add to deficit spending.

Democrats want to fund the measure using deficit spending and tax hikes.  The tax hikes include requiring certain S-Corporations to pay self employment taxes on 100% of their taxable income - not just owner draws.  It also increases taxation of investment fund managers and oil companies.

Once a replacement for Robert Byrd is found, it's said that the measure will pass.  Until then,  Americans will be sitting back waiting to see what is going on and if the unemployment extension will ever pass.

  1. must be nice to be able to just shut down, go on vacation, and leave unfinished work. maybe i should try that on my job, i bet i get fired in less then a heart beat, Im not on unemployment, but its a shame that so many are and need the help, but our elected officials play politics with us, I hope all the unemployed make their votes count next time. good luck to all the folks that need the benefits.

  3. Totally agree with "anonymous". It must be nice to just overlook all the unemployed people and go on vacation instead of taking care of people's needs..people are crying out for HELP.. the bill MUST be passed ASAP..guess driving a BMW , Mercedes Benz or a Lexus, eating caviar and drinking champagne and having your lawn done every week is more important than passing the bill and helping out the unemployed. Please have a HEART (which I doubt it very much) and PASS THE BILL..Thank you !

  5. I can understand the apprehension of "who's going to pay for this?". They(Congress) didn't bat an eye when they handed over $1 trillion of our money to banks and wall street. Sadly I need the extension to buy me more time so maybe I can find any job! We need jobs and right away because even if they pass this extension, what happens if we cannot find a job just to eat and pay rent?? I would not mind working for unemployment and that money would go to build up our manufacturing base and other sectors. Sort of like a NEW DEAL.

Thank you so much for your support. It's great to know that you, as an employed person, have compassion and concern for your fellow citizens. Reading your comment gave me hope and put a smile in my heart. -Kathy

  7. They just need to pass the bill and move on. I am so sick of people saying that people on unemployment are lazy, etc., that is not true. I know plenty of people on unemployment and they are putting in resumes, applications, etc., trying to find employment. The republicans need to be ashamed of themselves along with that one democrate.

  8. My husband has drawn his last unemployment check and we have four children to feed. I am scared we are facing hard times. However I am really glad the republicans have taken a stand. The answers to our problems do not include higher taxes. We have allowed this administration to control and CHANGE so many things. I do not like the idea of my children paying the price for our mistakes. I am one of the few who was given a job due to Obamas stimulas plan, my job ends sept 30 as do the jobs of everyone like me. You think the unemployment line is going to get shorter. Obamas plan was a temp fix. All he managed to do is spend money. Big Government does not work. It's even worse now the own the auto industry, the banks, and our going to tell us what doctor we can see and what medicine we can have, so tell me something if I disagree will I be fired for speaking out, will they drag their feet in my medical and let me die slowly. People wake up. This unemployment issue is just the beging, if the democrats really cared they would not drag their feet they would allow you to draw off the unused stimulas dollars

  9. To the Republicans, this is a game. Why the fiscal responsibility now? They want to take from the stimulus money that has been set aside for other things, rather than increase taxes for the big corporations and oil companies. They claim they do not want to add any more to the deficit. It never bothered them before!! They claim they do not want to leave the children of tomorrow in debt, while ignoring the children of today. The Democrats have whittled this bill down three times already and every single time every single Republican has voted no. Both parties have angered me over the years but the Republicans have gone too far this time. They've shown they have zero empathy or respect for America's working class. My great-grandmother always said that voting Republican benefits the rich only. She was absolutely right. I will remember this in November. To all of the unemployed, please try to hang on a little longer. I pray that our Senators do the right thing on Monday.

  10. You people are unbelievable. This dim led government is selling you down the river to fund their union & ACORN cronies and like the good sheeple you are you let MSLSD, Oblaba, Peloser & Harry Fraud tell you its the bad ol Republicans.

Business produces the jobs duh. Tax them and thats the first thing that goes. When this bunch was elected investment went in the crapper & they've only proved that the conservatives were right. They will bankrupt the country for their cronies & never bat an eye.
They'll be sittin' in the lap of luxury on the taxpayer provided pension or dead & gone when the bill comes due.

  11. Thanks Anonymous - Its really is a shame that our government is playing with so many peoples lives. When I was working as you said, we would be fired if I just let a project go, and went on vacation, and say oh well! I am unemployed and scrambling to find work as my money has run out. Having to move because I can't pay rent, might lose my car, applied for Welfare for Food Stamps, and just trying to keep the faith. I feel for all the other people who have families and children that are going through this. They are voting today, so lets pray they do the right thing for the American People!

  12. I have been without any benefits since the end of May. Ready to start tier 2 - I have used what little savings to keep the lights on and eat. Now that has dwindled to absolutely nothing. So, not sure how to survive another month. This is an outrage and cruel situation for these senators to have put people in this spot. Now how do I pay for cobra next month. If we don't pay it cobra is over. Our credit card rates go up if you miss the min. payment, credit scores suffer employers pull reports before they consider hiring you. This Congress has just ruined everything we have tried so hard to maintain since losing my job. I couldn't even sleep last night. Obama should of made them stay until this was resolved. We are just little people that no one cares about.

There are millions of unemployed and upset Amricans, why dont we start a petiton with millions of signatures, to start removing John Boeher and Mitch Mcconnell from office, That will get some action, I assure you. Safety in Numbers, (millions of signatures)

IF THIS "BS" CONTINUES I FEAR THINGS WILL CONTINUE TO GET WORSE TO THE POINT OF A REVOLT AS MORE PEOPLE WILL BE FORCED OUT OF THEIR HOMES, APARTMENTS AND INTO THEIR CARS THAT IS IF THEY STILL HAVE ONE. ITS PRETTY TOUGH TO LOOK FOR A JOB OUT OF YOUR CAR.

  20. In addition to the employments extension, an anti discrimination law to protect the currently unemployed will also help. Many employers are spectecle on the competencies of currently unemployed. The longer someone is out of work the harder it will be for her/him to find a job. For on line job application, employers often require applicants to provide many personal formation such as year graduated from high school (with which reveals age)and give consent for background check and credit check but not even providing the potential salary information. Often times, applicant spend hours to research on a company following a job ad, writing cover letters, customizing resumes, fill out the online application and take the assessment but getting nothing more than an auto response, "your application has been received, Thank you for applying...!"
Republicans, you might born to a wealthy family and never had to worry about your next meal or next job, but please learn to understand people who has to work hard the whole life to earn every meal on the table.

They were drunk when they ran this country into the ground with deficit spending. Now it filibuster after filibuster. They do this on the backs of people who lost their jobs because of them. This past year’s budget was Bushes not Osama’s. From the Bankruptcy Laws to this the Republicans have never voted for the average person. Hey as long as you have your GUN though. That’s important you Fux News watching dope.

Mean while I'm sitting here thinking if I put another resume in or on-line app. and get no call for a job, and on my last week of benefits its going to push me over the edge. They don't have their family looking at them angry bcuz we can't even buy fireworks to celebrate this "great nation" I guess I'm living above my means by having basic cable, ramen noodles, and kool-aid every night! Let me cut that out then I can buy some bang snaps to celebrate along with the 1 bullet for at least 1 last big bang from the suicide gun I'm gonna use! Thats about how I feel people!

  25. I am a 60 year old woman who has been out of work since the first of the year. I have been sending out over 10 to 15 resumes weekly. I had an interview last week, and the employer stated "how long do you plan on working". I told him the rest of my life. No one wants to hire older workers and especially when they have 400 to 500 resumes for each job. I am not out of work due to no fault of my own. I have worked my entire life since I was 15 years old. I will never vote for another republican. Maybe some day they will be out of a job also. I am not trash. I am a very smart attractive 60 year old without a job. I want to work, but when you go on interview after interview and you know they want someone younger, it gets pretty frustrating. Plus when they tell you they have had 300 to 400 resumes for each job that you apply for. What do they want us to do. The whole United States set up tent cities. Too bad we all do not have ten kids and can get welfare.

  27. Republicans need to know that we always work together to increase the economy of our country, Now we need help from the government, so it's not time to turn around and forget about all the unemployed people that need that help just to feed our family, We don't ask for money to take Vacation in Hawai like you Republicans do, We ask for help to feed our family and have a roof where to sleep. I just lost my house because I don't have an income, Do you want me to loose my family too. Republicans we are humans no animals.

Now that the extension was denied i'm going to loose my house along with many other things.. they want to create jobs for us unemployed well unemployment puts money in the hands of the people that really need it and will spend it to help the business that needs the money. So unemployment helps the economy which helps create jobs which helps people get off unemployment.

florida just doesnt have jobs available.
I think its too easy for those in charge to squeeze the people, make us cry a little bit to make their point...that the other guy is at fault. but we're not THAT stupid. its both sides. concerned only with getting re-elected.

Our leaders in congress are morally reprehensible scumbags. both republican and democrat. term limits should have been in place LONG ago.

  34. How can they sleep at night, drive the car, feed the family...and not have a thought cross the mind that some of us have to worry if we are going to be able to sleep in the same spot, drive that car to look for work, or feed our family. Its not the ones fault that really deserve this help to have to suffer because they didn't put there foot down and put guidelines and now want to do something. I just ended my regular UI and still at the moment (never ended) am looking for work and still no luck. I guess they rather me collect more Food stamps, get help paying my rent and light, and then find a way to sit on welfare cuz now its hard to get back on my feet after they caused me to loose my house,car....they just dont under stand how this can effect everyone.... But I guess it doesn't surprise me that they don't because they have Im sure many credit cards to swipe for there needs. Thank you economy for getting me laid off and Thank you congress for whatever comes my way cuz you want to take a vacation.

The repubs have lost their way but the dems are still just tax and spend. It is a shame that the dems started the unemployment extension bill with a tax cut for venture capitalist and thats why even dems voted no, now the repubs are asking for a bill with just unemployment bene's and they will vote yes, too bad the dems couldn't do that before the holiday. So many people hurting and politics as usual in DC. We need to take back our country before there is nothing left. Jody...do you kiss your mother with that mouth??? 39. I'm sorry...but all you people blaming the Republicans are just plain old "STUPID" or "IGNORANT"! You believe everything you hear in the Media (bought and paid for by the person pulling OBAMA'S Puppet Strings and the Media's) If the Democrats cared at all for the little people they would have signed the "STAND ALONE BILL" for Unemployment Extensions; but NOooo...They don't want to do that, they want to pass their bill with the extra "PORK" in it. One of the things they won't give up is more money for the Doctors for reimbursements on Medicare. They refuse to spend the Stimulus Money that is left...they want to keep that for their re-elections coming up.

Think about it...IF THEY TRULY CARED about all the people that are collecting Unemployment and all the people who went through the last few weeks without a check and no way to pay their bills...while they went on their vacation...THEY WOULD HAVE PASSED THE STAND ALONE BILL, so that everyone collecting Unemployment would have received their checks!
Everything the Democrat controlled Congress and THIS PRESIDENT have done over the last 18 months is destroying JOBS and our economy!
Also, the Skimmer Ship has been available to collect 500,000 gallons of oil a day since the accident happened in the Gulf, but "OBAMA" has done absolutely nothing! He just wants the oil spill to get so bad that he has to call his U.N. military in and declare Martial Law. He doesn't want to fix this mess...he wants to use it to advance his agenda.

  44. People are going to have their utilities shut off, and pay to have them turned back on, BTW, it is 100 degrees outside, wonder how long people can take that esp older folks. They can't pay to regester their cars on time, get a fine for driving that they can't pay. They paid bills on time, had good credit. All that is out the window. I'm not unemployed, but know some who had good, and what they thought were secure jobs.some with degrees, veterans, and it's a nightmare to them, that they can't get on anywhere. They have kids, no family to help financially.
It is a political game DC is playing. They think we are stupid. A pox on all who block the extension..dems,repubs, tea party who want it to not pass. Especially the repubs who never give a crap about debt when it was for their best interests. Worrying about their grandchildren paying the deficit. Why don't they take a cut in pay, benefits, cut their staff, and taking off work half the time.

  45. Ok DAN, seems you are as ignorant as Dennis. First off, there is a tool that the Republicans have used in record numbers this past year and continue to use it and that is called a filibuster. That is a fact. Record number of filibusters. Majority does not always rule when you need 60 votes to pass anything. When the Republicans held power and Dems threatened the filibuster, Republicans threatened the “nuclear option” to get rid of the filibuster. I almost wish they had at this point.

Second : the last bill before was practically a stand alone because it was with the home buyer tax credit and only Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe voted for it. Republicans are quoted as saying the unemployed should just take a lower paying job and they are just enjoying the good life collecting. LAZY!

That’s why people like myself are angry and fed up with the rich loving, Trickle down, Republicans. Sorry for my potty mouth. Actually I’m not.

The Republican Party has always pissed on the average American and always will till we stop them. They have never hidden who they are. You can see it on Fox News every day all day.

  50. Jody. I respect your opinion, but you are really in the dark on this one. Why do you want to raise taxes on small businesses? Do you think America's small businesses will survive while being taxed at a higher rate than large corporations? Do you think the large corporations will hesitate to out-source your next job too? Please educate yourself before you speak up because you are hurting this country. God bless you and I wish the best for you during these challenging times.

  51. Yesterday, I have posted a list about the basic expenses that is essential for unemployed. Have you read it? If not, please read, and I am 100% right about this list:

    How unemployment check gets spent?
    1) Rent to have a roof over
    1) Food to eat so that we can look for work and don't die
    3) Internet connection: to look for job in Craigslist, monster, career builder, dice, etc, and so that recruiters can contact us
    4) Phone) So that companies can call us and do a telephone interview
    5) Cleaning material: soap, shampoo, laudry, etc so that at interview we look ok and not like a criminal
    6) Toothpaste: to clean teeth as there is no dentist
    7) Hair Cut ( i have not got a hair cut in last 5 months)
    8) Other necessities: so that we can live humanly while we don't have our job.

Screw 2019, it's now or never for all of us unemployed people. I am 61 years old and have worked since i was 15. i probably won't be around in 2019. but that is then and this NOW!!! we need money to survive, buy food, pay rent, buy clothes etc. maybe even lead to employment. how can this not help the economy??? Wake Up!!! Otherwise your children and grandchilden will be waiting for their unemployment checks that will never materialize. will see them in the streets as well!!! every dog has it's day, and YOURS ARE COMING!!!

My guess is that was worded improperly and they meant to say they were doing it for investment fund managers and a few small businesses.

  54. 2:05 anonymous.
It has been 61 years and you still cannot figure this out. If you cannot even take care of yourself, who can? Maybe it is time for some reflection. Did you always make the best financial decisions? You lived your life during the most prosperous time in World history. Many other baby boomers were able to save money during the boom years for retirement. Are there times in your life that you could have saved a little a more money and spent a little less? Are you entitled to the hard work of the next generation because you made bad choices? You are a sixty-one year old adult, but somebody else is supposed to pay off your credit card? Why? Maybe you are the dog and your day is finally here. Maybe?

Let’s just say the measure did not pass.

WOW that blows the whole “PUT IT AS ITS OWE BILL” theory.

Anonymous, thanks for your thoughts and I mean that but are you talking about the Hedge Funds that pay lower taxes than most of us former working folk and Oil Companies. Does anyone remember $4 a gallon gas. Record Profits!

Dems are not perfect by far and know one is but Republicans have never wavered in their fight for the Rich and power full. Federal Estate Tax (Death Tax) that only applies to estates over 2 million dollars that now is gone? You could help a lot of small business with the money from those taxes but Republicans will never let that happen.

  56. Megarock.

Is it possible that you aspire to be a corporate whore like the one you elected? At least the multinational corporations are giving him money to attack small businesses. You get nothing, not even a UI check. What does that make you?

  57. Yesterday I have posted another entry that justifies the need for TIER 5 or should I say TIER N*(TIERs should go on for infinite time till the unemployment rate goes down):

I believe TIER 5 should pass. Until unemployment rate fall below 8-9% in California or in any state, there should be Tiers. Even if the unemployment rate were above 9% at August 2011, we should have unemployment then: we should have TIER *(should continue till economy is normal).

What are the reasons for my assertions?

    High unemployment rate means
    > more competition for one job,
    > that companies are searching for Einsteins to make rockets,
    > that there are less jobs,
    > that few people are spending as they have less money.

The above line justifies the "Tsunamic" effect on economy.

    > Less people are spending --- means less profit on business and less tax revenue
    > Less hiring from companies as banks are giving less loans as banks have less money
    > companies are hiring less as they don't have work as there is less people to give them a work or project, and, also, they are not having a big loan from the bank

    How to solve this?
    > Americans need to spend more, but how Americans could if they don't even have money for a roof, for food?

If there were no unemployment, people will die; grocery stores will be bankrupt: more tidal waves will be coming.... And when the tidal wave does a significant, monstrous, damage, I guess, then "THEY" will understand.

But by then, will we be here? I hope, we do. I hope we be here, and fight this *uc**ers because we don't want us and our country to fail.
To fulfill the above basic list, a survival expense guide for an unemployed, we need to have unemployment.

  58. Many of the unemployed are that way Due to NO FAULT OF THEIR OWN..that is the only way you get to receive the benefits!! I have been a Democrat my entire adult life but this year I change to Republican because of Obama's empty promises, he is a smoother talker, he does not care about the American pple. I agree the stimulus money should be used, I also agree that the Wall Street, Bankers, Auto Makers didn't deserve a bailout!! But We the American PPle are suffering, having a hard time paying rent, feeding our children, paying out utility bills..and Vacation? How can that happend??
Voters: We need to take a stand, Be Americans and take our Country back!!! Our Country was founded on Religion, Trust, and Honesty...Washington knows nothing about these values anymore. Remind them at Election Time

    ReplyDelete
  59. Jody, Please. You are falling for talking points. Most small businesses in this country (including my own) are not hedge funds and are certainly not oil companies. Those companies have the ability to shelter profits internationally. This proposed bill disproportionately effects small businesses without international exposure. How will our SMALL businesses compete if we are taxed at a higher rate than the multinationals?

    ReplyDelete
  60. To Anonymous: The tax extenders bill (H.R. 4213) currently pending in Congress contains a provision to close what is commonly known as the “John Edwards” loophole, which allows some shareholder-employees of “S corporations” to avoid paying the Medicare payroll tax on their earnings. An amendment offered by Senators Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and Mike Enzi (R-WY) would remove this reform and preserve the loophole. This amendment should be rejected. Despite what these lawmakers may believe, closing this loophole will actually help most small businesses, which are currently subsidizing the minority who abuse it to avoid payroll taxes.

you forgot they voted No on a Stand Alone Bill in the house that did not have this in it. It is not about Taxes but more about stepping on us unemployed until we are ruined.

these are not talking points but FACTS.

If what goes around comes around, I bet people who aren't in some others shoes right now will be howling like mad dogs. Do they think people aren't trying to find work? Ever heard how many of our jobs went overseas?
Anyone have an opinion if the bill will pass..I'm afraid to think of what will happen if it doesn't.

We here at home wondering how we are going to pay rent, lights, phone, internet and eat this month! Without income, No lights & No phone means no opportunity to search for jobs ALL DAY & ALL NIGHT on the internet! What a great land we live in!!!!!!! (NOT)

  68. You don't have to worry about your job if you are part of the military industrial esablishment. Everyone in government is.
Thanks, Ike, but it is & was, firmly entrenched.
Ike said that was our greatest threat. Still is.
How many trillions have we spent in Iraq and Afghanistan? Who is making money from it? Same people who did off fighing the commies in 'Nam.
Now we can buy things from there. Our men died for that? What a country. DC doesn't care about us unless we can contribute to their campaigns, send our sons to die. This government needs to clean up their own act, help it's people, stop policing the world. And stop their shell games.

You are a Fox News mouth piece and as you can see know one is buying it.

I doubt that you are even a SMALL business owner or you would not be so concerned about this issue.

The truth does not matter in your world.
You never did explain why the House of Representatives voted NO on a stand alone bill that did not have this in it.

Republicans voted NO Please explain for all of us why your party voted NO last week.

Look it up because you won’t see that on Hannity or O Dopelly.

  72. Hate to butt in here, but they voted no because they think it will help them take over congress, hurt Obama, (economy is all his fault.)They've got all the right wing wackos on tv, radio saying we have to worry about the deficit more than anything else. Vote for us in Nov, We will save the country. What happened to the surplus Clinton left. We got a phoney war on terrorism, stepped up the phony war on drugs.I will say one thing for W ..he asked for jobless benefits to be extended when the unemployment rate was no where near what it is now. Thw GOP is at it's best when they use fear tactics. But if you check the record, they find a way to vote yes and find ways to pay for whatever is to their own good and greed. Get ready for chicken little .

  73. It’s always a blame game when it come to the American people wanting or needing something. Let it be a war or bailing out the banks or big corporations the bill for that can pass so fast. You have to wonder if the ink had time to dry. When they see how the economy start to slow down and their contingents start calling left and right; maybe they’ll get off their big fat @#$%%% and start signing that bill. I rec’d my last check 4 weeks ago and I’m dipping into my 401(k) and you know that’s not good. I’m cutting back in ways I never thought I would or should have to in order to survive day-to-day. Bills are backed up in way I’ve never seen in my adult life (40+).

I’ve sent out so many resumes to have only have 5 interviews. It’s a crazy market out there, no part time jobs. I hope in 2 weeks they determine if the bill will pass or not. I know one thing Nov is around the corner, and I can’t wait.

  74. I WONDER IF ANY IN CONGRESS READ ANY OF THESE BLOGS. IF SO, I'D LIKE TO KNOW WHAT THEY THINK WILL HAPPEN WITH THE BILL. THE REPS I'VE CONTACTED HAD SOMEONE E-MAIL ME, SAYING THANK YOU, WE WILL BE CONTACTING YOU. ONE DIDN'T BOTHER TO DO THAT. I KNOW THEY WILL WHEN THEY WANT A CONTRIBUTION. IT'S LIKE A NEWS BLACKOUT. TRIED TO GET A TALK SHOW HERE TO TALK ABOUT THE BILL. NO LUCK. I THINK IF LADY GAGA BROKE HER LEG, THE MEDIA WOULD COVER THAT MORE.
ID'D JUST LIKE TO KNOW WHAT CHANCE THE BILL HAS.
NEVER THOUGHT I'D MISS ROBERT BYRD. I'LL HAVE TO GET TO KNOW MORE DEMS, CAUSE I AM THROUGH WITH THE PARTY OF THE RICH. I'M NOT EVEN UNEMPLOYED..I SEE WHAT PEOPLE ARE GOING THROUGH AROUND ME..WILLING TO WORK, FRUSTRATED TO THE MAX. I LOVE MY FELLOW AMERICANS WHO ARE HURTING, AND ALL THEY EVER DID WAS WORK AND PAY TAXES, SERVE THEIR COUNTRY. THEY DID NOT CAUSE THE LOSS OF JOBS.THE CREEPS WHO SAY WHY DIDN'T THEY SAVE, PLAN AHEAD DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT. SOME WHO FINALLY LOST THEIR JOBS TOOK PAY CUTS A LONG TIME AGO. THE WAY THE COST OF LIVING HAS GONE UP, I DON'T KNOW HOW THOSE OF US WITH A JOB ARE MAKING IT. AND IT'S GOING TO KEEP GOING UP. GOD HELP US ALL.

  75. Friend, Ike called it the military industrial complex. It is what he said it was and would be.
Look it up. JFK found out,so did RFK. Who really runs things? RFK called it the shadow government, for one thing. Ike warned JFK...don"t get involved in a land war in SE ASIA.
I am not a conspiracy nut.
I got into this to say there's a lot going on in DC. IMO when the media and DC get your focus on what they want you to see, you only see the tip of the iceberg. If this bill doesn't pass, they know what will happen, and it's what they want to happen.
If you believe in God and prayer, pray. I made it through some combat when all I had was hope.
God is still on the throne,in control.Try to look to him,and not to the circumstance peace be with you.

  77. Amen. There are no atheists in foxholes they say. I feel like I am in one. Waiting for the back-up troops to get here, with some ammo.
Hey, this is a kind of war. A war of survival. I'm just afraid it's the survival of the fittest. The fittest are the ones in power with $$$$$. To heck with the rest. Maybe they figure there are too many people using America's water, power grids, etc. So what if people leave the USA , drop dead. Can't believe I thought that.
I just strongly feel so many in Washington are out of touch with the common folk. Maybe I am going off the deep end. So many of us never dreamed this could happen to us. Reading some blogs, I can't help but feel some are getting a kick out of seeing our pain. God help them - they are in worse shape than we are. Totally sick . I will pray for all of us. One thing I've noticed is some people who don't have that much are willing to share it. People who could help a lot do not, or will not do much, if anything. They just don't get it. I mean even in a blog, people could give a word of encouragement, instead of things like: Don't tell me you can't get a job.. Lazy... Want a hand out all your life. Guess you excuse ignorance.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I am currently unemployed. We have used our savings to buy groceries and pay our power bill. I have never had an extension, I have been on unemployment since November 09. I think all of the congress should go without a paycheck to see what we go through. I was so fortunate a month ago... I took the phone book out and just cold called companies and landed a job that pays more than my last. I just started today. I hear people complaining about their jobs today. I told them to be grateful they have a job because being unemployed is so rough. Congress should be ashamed of themselves for not passing the extension. What are they doing for our country?

    ReplyDelete
  79. I don't understand a lot of things about extensions. It's confusing. Do they give people with kids priority over those that don't have any? Are single people last in line for benefits? I hear and have read it depends on what state you are in, what tier you are on.
If the bill up now is not passed, will it cut off extensions for everyone - or just "99ers"? I'm not unemployed. I am trying to find out all I can about it. The more I see on some sites, the more confused I am.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Don't want to scare people, but after reading about the military industrial complex in above comments, I looked up some stuff. To people saying there could be riots, rise in crime,if people get desperate enough without benefits to help -- forget it. Ever heard of Blackwater? Our governments private military. Not just in Iraq, folks. They are here. Look up Blackwater Shadow Army on Youtube. Some in congress have said they can't find out much about them. They are trained civilian units sent whereever they are told to go, including US cities.Supposedly to protect us.They are highly paid. As I said, they are not accountable to congress and few have any details about them.I mention this, because I've read on blogs people saying if things get bad enough, it will be worse than Watts in the sixties. Violence will not be the answer, or help anyone.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I have also read on a couple of different internet sites that "supposably" there are a couple of organized extremist groups out there somewhere targeting some senators homes and offices in the near future so that it will appear as if some irate unemployed person is to blame.
Surely this won't happen and hopefully it is just some dumbass mouthing off. I find it hard to believe somebody stupid enough to commit some sort of crime would post about it on and internet blog. The last thing we need is violence! That will not solve anything.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Man, as if we don't have enough to worry about. Then again, there are nuts among us. I imagine people in politics have always lived with threats. Especially the president. I imagine the supreme court gets a lot of flack.
We've had the unibomber, left wing nuts, Mcvey, right wing nuts.
I think the anger about the benefits extension to people who have looked for work is the unfairness of it. Saying it can't be paid for. The house passed it. It almost passed the senate. The ones making the most noise about not passing it are so obviously doing it for political gain. Hey, GOP - BAIL US OUT.
And the fact they go off on vacation before deciding--they did :(spring break, memorial week break and now the fourth of July.) How can they enjoy holidays while people are left hanging? It's adding insult to injury. It's not that important to them.
Anyway, I hope no one goes ballistic. I know people have gone back to a former job and started shooting (going postal)or shot up a place they couldn't get hired.
I know people who may go momentarily insane if they have their utilities shut off, lose their homes. This all is beginning to seem unreal. Something out of the twilight zone. Can't be happening to me. Beam me up Scotty.

We am holding my breath until the 12Th I have made payment arrangements with PGE and phone company! my water bill would not wait so we bar rowed. our mortgage is due by the fifteenth my husband is the only one working thank god! he works in polyurethane roofing but it slows down and it has been hit a struggle for the company to keep them working! I have a degree in medical practice management. I have been out trying to find work! and honestly I have lost my confidence at an interview I seem to be sounding desperate or something i just want to work. I did not get a job which I thought i was perfect for but it turns out they ran my credit and i have been late on everything does not look good for me! I tried to explain the sad economy story but guess it did not work! anyhow I researched whom hey hired and it turns out. a less experienced less costly candidate got the position. trust me I know this because i searched her resume as well i met her in the lobby while waiting for the interview along with about ten others in one day! please congress we I have always worked for a living.I'm sorry that we need your help now! we have children to feed,a home to keep. not to mention our sanity.please. think of us. 86. I'd expect it from Fox, not CNN. Ed Shultz is the only guy on the radio trying to help us...only one I've found. Quite a few economists (like Paul Krugman, Nobel honoree), but seems like all the right wing talk guys back anything the GOP says, blast anything the Dems and Obama say. SURPRISE! Even W wanted extensions when the jobless situation wasn't this bad. The dems are going to do whatever they have to to get the bill passed. They are dealing with a lot more than we know.
I want to add I am another one who will never vote Republican again. Hope they had a nice vacation. NOT. There are two repubs who voted for the bill I'd make an exception for them.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Obama could call an emergency session for congress. They'd really be mad to have their vacation shortened. How many days are they in DC anyway? Bet they'd call one for some emergency in a foreign country. AMERICANS ARE HAVING AN EMERGENCY TRYING TO FIND JOBS, JUST SURVIVE UNTIL WE DO. MEANWHILE MORE JOBS ARE GOING OVERSEAS ANd ILLEGALS COMING HERE. TOO BAD FOR NOT THEIR PROBLEM.
