2010 Unemployment Extension as America Waits, Unemployed Fall Behind

The 2010 unemployment extension hasn't been passed, and the unemployed are falling more and more behind in their bills.  Why? They don't have unemployment checks coming in.  Ever since June 2, 2010 those who are falling off their current tiers of unemployment benefits aren't having any more funds coming in.

Of course, if the unemployment extension does pass, it will likely be retroactive meaning that they will receive a lump sum of funds to help them through hard times.  However the key word is IF they will pass the extension - it still hasn't happened yet.

Early next week, the late Robert Byrd will be replaced by the governor of West Virginia, and it's expected that the new interim Senator will vote for the passage of the bill, which means that the much needed extension of benefits will finally pass.

It's important to side with caution.  It's very possible that the benefits extension won't pass - again.  Only one vote is needed to pass, and anything could happen in terms of Senators changing sides.

The unemployment extension only gives those within the former tiers 1-4 an extension of time to file for benefits.  It doesn't extend the current potential 99 weeks of benefits any further.  There are many who need a fifth tier of unemployment benefits, but so far there haven't been any talks about extending the benefits any further than they already are.

In reality, there's little chance that a Tier 5 extension will be passed, unless something happens with the economy and the unemployment situation worsens. However, those seeking a Tier 5 extension shouldn't give up the fight, as doing so would ensure that no extension would be passed.

  1. The American Government is in a total state of denial of the plight of the unemployed. I have worked for over 35 years, almost all of it. I have collected unemployment a few times having worked seasonal jobs a couple of years. This lasted about 2 to 3 weeks. I was let go by Computer Science Corp. in June of 08 for corporate downsizing !! I have almost 2000 resumes sent out over that period. One to clean cat kennels part time at the local Vets. I can't get any type of job. We did not create this mess, the Bush Administration did !! Letting Corporate Greed take over the American economy !! Obama has done a good job of getting unemployment extended, don't let the Congress get away with their typical BS !!! We gave them their jobs, most bought it and only care about #1, I am tired of having to grope for money to buy food, rent, clothing, gas, etc.

  2. This is a difficult situation as one side of the argument feels that extending unemployment only delays the individuals from going out and finding work diligently. However, one can't ignore the fact that many who have been looking for work simply can't find any and for those who had work in the financial sector, "career transistioning" appears to be the only alternative. In addition, the mature workers have been hit hard and they face their own unique set of roadblocks.
99 weeks of assistance at the very least is needed to provide the unemployed with sufficient time to try and find work in their field or at the very least begin figuring out how to "career transistion" and save their homes and few savings. I hope the bill is passed but more importantly, we need to find creative solutions to the overall issue that will motivate both the employers and the unemployed.

The Senate should never have let this go on this long. There are millions of Americans now that have lost faith in their government. I hope not only will they remember who voted no on the measure to extend unemployment benefits in November, but that they follow them for their entire political careers. One person said it best in another article. He said that all the Senators should wear jerseys like a racing pitt crew. That way we'll all know who is sponsoring them and why they vote the way they do. It's all about the mighty dollar people. Those that are voting now are getting a kick back from somewhere. You won't see change unless you get involved. Lets get involved and change our Nation and bring it back to what it used to be. Enough is enough.

  4. As one of the people collecting unemployment, let me asure everyone in doubt that unemployment is no deterrence to finding work. I went from making $700 a week to making $355 per week. I want nothing more than to get back to the life I had grown accoustomed to. I don't like deciding between gas and groceries. I don't like not being able to provide for my family. I had a major car repair that nearly ruined me. Unemployment benefits are not nearly suffice to make ends meet. My 401k is all but gone. I paid into the system. I am not leeching off of it. I'll pay right back into it again when taxes are due on the unemployment funds I collected. I just don't understand the conservative frame of mind. It's ok to assist the banks that were pivitol in creating this mess. It's ok to bail out the automotive companies. As a tax paying, law abiding, patrotic citizen, why am I not "too big to fail"?

  5. No money in Fl

I am 53 year's old and I lost my accounting job in 08 I have worked my entire life. This is the first time I have ever been on Unemployment. I have ran out of mine. And my husband who is 62 lost his construction job two month's after I did. We only have his early retirement to live on now. And I take care of my 88 year old wheelchair bound mother. We need unemployment extended. I can not even find a part time job.

  6. Watch the Senate proceedings on C-Span and you will be sickened. Our senators have no financial worries. Most of them are millionaires. The Republicans say they are interested in slowing down the growth of the deficit but there are many other ways to do that. Stop welfare before you stop unemployment benefits. We earned those benefits!!! I am a 64 year old woman who lost her job in the construction meltdown in Florida. Senator LeMieux from Florida stand up and be a man and stop worrying about your political future !!!!!

  7. I worked for a state government and decided to go back to school full-time to avoid the possibility of being laid off with no transferable skills. I worked a lesser full-time job and graduated in December. I'm in my second state looking for work since the year began moving a total of over 2500 miles. My UI has ran out. Believe me, I didn't enjoy being "an artist for the state." I would rather work. Politicians are the real leeches!

  9. I'm in the same boat with everyone else in this unemployment nightmare come true. I have made a commitment to vote against every one of these dirty politicians that won't support their own people. I hope you all will do the same. It's time for change. I'm a country boy and I'm sure I can survive long enough to make to the voting booth. In the end ... it's the voters that decide. Seems to me that these warped politicians need to be in the unemployment line and feel our pain.

  10. I guarantee the economy WILL get worse! If millions of US citizens are just left with no income what so ever, it will a domino effect on the economy. When people face foreclosure, credit defaults, and have no spending cash at all, what it there to keep the economy moving forward?

  12. I have been disapointed with the Republican Party for years now and switched my party election to Democrate. I now no I did the right thing. The GOP does not care about the individual, they are only concerned with big corporations and their needs. This was evident when the Bank I worked for would tell the employees to vote Republican and shove money to the Republican party.

I worked in all areas of Banking that include Management. I have an extensive background and outstanding education experience. Yet, I can not find a job. It has been a year and a half. These Senators that think I could just take any job are fools. No one wants me only to leave if something better comes my way and other businesses do not want to put out the expense of my salary for my experience and knowledge.

  13. I am 62 years old and have worked steadily for 42 years. I lost my job in November of 2008 and had to relocate to a small mobile home in Northern Michigan. My total living expenses, excluding groceries is about 1300 per month. I have one more bi-weekly unemployment check left. I have been seeking a job of any kind and cannot find one because I am over-qualified and too old. I have a good many productive years to work and am fading in to the background.

If the government doesn't want to extend the unemployment then they need to put us to work in government jobs. We are all willing.

Bring our troops home and help the AMERICAN CITIZENS and OUR COUNTRY.

  14. I have never had to draw unemployment benefits in my life, I am 42 and lost my job when our business closed because of the economy. I have a degree & I am a damn good worker but I cannot get a job. I will admit one thing about the senate not passing the extension, My family has learned about politics in a whole different light !! I now see how politicians have no idea what it is like to be a normal, hard working american citizen. Politicians are out of touch and have all the perks that the regular citizen works hard for but does not have. I no longer think there are any politicians that actually care for regular americans, they are only out to help themselves. I hope and pray for everybody out of work, maybe the gov't will pass the extension but I will not get my hopes up.

  15. They could care less about those of us that have exhausted their benefits a tier 5 should be in the benifits instead of just 1-4.They figure it will shut up most of the people and things will quiet down.I'm wondering if those people will abandon us when their benefits are restored?I lived in Oklahoma when I filed for unemployment but moved to Indiana because there was no work in oklahoma.and they only had 3 tiers of unemployment. So I got screwed because you can't transfer your extensions to another state.

  16. It sickens me that they actually went on a break without evne passing a temporary bill or something. I am sitting here worried about the repo man, and a notice on my door to leave. I have been a hard working woman for 20 years and I am 36, well qualified and I cant get a job. My company relocated me and then had to lay me off because of the budget cuts to social services in california. Then I am cut off without any notice from unemployment. Way to heal a country. Kick me while I am down. I feel like I have been laid off once again and left out in the cold, at least when I was laid off I had a little savings because I paid decently. I have no savings I hardly make it on unemployment.
The enator have no feelings for the peoople they promise to represent. Poeple are starvin and have no hope of ever getting it together because their credit will be permenently screwed. I was about to buy a house and now I cant even dream of that with my messed credit. This country is a terrible place to live, I use to love our freedoms and open hearts now more that I have ever I see some people are expendable and worth nothing. We are still over seas helping others gain a quality of life but we can hepl our own people. Very sad Senators....

  17. It's amazing how all these unemployed people, who say they've worked all their lives, are about to "lose everything". My question is, to all these millions of people, didn't you save during this time? Prepare for the "rainy day"? Because of your lack of planning, you want the taxpaying public to give you benefits indefinitely? Enough is enough. 99 weeks is just crazy. I was laid off in Oct of 2008 at the age of 58. I had a new job within three months. Stop looking for excuses.

  18. To the guy that states he's 43 and been off work for 7 months. You need to get more educated so you can learn how to spell. Also maybe take some political science courses so you may have the correct understanding of what is exactly taking place in this country.
I am a white female with 6 years of college and a degree. I am a 99er. President Obama is not to blame for this mess! You must be a Democrat that thinks he is Republican or maybe your just plain racist and do not want to hear or read the truth!
Our own Vice President even votes for us to get extensions. Maybe you did not know that? Every time the unemployment extension is voted on, take names Sir and if you do this, you will soon figure out, the republican party does not give a rats a** about you or the rest of us!! The Democrats in office are the only part of congress that votes yes for our extension. The rest of the Republicans just want to line their pockets with our tax money, while we, the American middle class workers, are reduced to poverty. Perhaps you did not know that?! I feel sorry for people like you that have no clue about who is doing this to you. Watch the only news station that cares to talk about us, MSNBC and wath the ED show. They tell the truth with backed up proof unlike FOX TV and Bill O'Reilly!
Bill is whining now because he has nothing better to do. You see, he does not care about us either, everytime I ever tried to contact him through the media his mail came back, and then everyone I would email at MSNBC would send me a response. Do you Sir, really think the poor should be taxed the same as the rich? Well the Blonde News Anchor at FOX TV does! She stated it live on TV. Dont recall her name, since I am not a fan of some silver spoon fed bimbo that wants to tax the poor. Read up HUN, get educated on what is really happening before november 11th. Because if you vote Republican you can kiss you extension goodbye! And most likely find yourself homeless. Get on change.org, If you are unemployed you are a Democrat! Because your not rich!! And the Republicans will let you starve!!

  19. no tier 5. Then once again shows how clueless congress is. Even media is if they think getting UI checks is why people are still unemployed after 99 weeks. Sure some but few. No one is living a good life or able to pay all their bills just getting unemployment. UI % is same as it was for last 2 years very high. So what makes our leaders seem to think it got better and no more need to do a tier 5? They have to go when they so clearly show money to other countries comes before money to needy Americans. Just sick people and out of touch.

  20. I have been out of work for over a year and the 26 weeks of unemployment just ended. It is hard to find a job right now in any industry. I have worked since I was 15, I am now 38 and cannot stand the thought of not working. I have decided that I am going to have to "recreate" myself, so much for the college degree I received. I have applied for all types of jobs and not one call! I am now trying my hand at independent contracting selling skin care products, a luxury item but heck who knows maybe I'll make it.

you are right, it is surprising that so many people that have worked 20 years plus are losing everything. I think a huge part of the problem has been wage stagnation has been masked by loose credit and the majority of people are overextended. Things like braces for the kids are financed. In my case, my husband is self employed and our income from that has dropped by 50% over the last three years. I was a commissioned sales person (luxury furnishings) and my income dropped 25% each year for the last two, then I was laid off. My unemployment is paid on the worst pay I have recieved in 13 years. Savings have been sustaining us untill now, but even a healthy nest egg can be depleted. Congratulations on finding a job, hope you keep it.

  22. K William in Michigan writes:

I am an unemployed career Technical Recruiter, that can't find work. Big suprise eh? If companies are not hiring, who needs a Recruiter?

I do know a thing or 2 about the job market though and here is a real simple way of looking at it.

For those pundants that say end Unemployment, it will force people to go get a job... may I ask what job they are talking about? Corporate America is still laying off more than they are hiring.

That is a great thought in theory.... but you have to have open and available jobs for that notion to actually work. There are none, and many that are posted are meerely companies kicking the tires to see who is available when they are actually ready to hire. I have been to the final interview now on 5 different positions and the employers won't pull the trigger and extend an offer because they are not convinced we have seen the worst of the Depression (that is what we have in Michigan... a Depression)

This is thhe first time in 24 years of work I have needed to count on assistance. Now that I need it, and so do millions of others... the system I have paid into all these years is going to pull the rug out from under my feet.

As with anything, there are those that abuse it, a small percentage. There are those like me that are trying to do something about there situation that really really need the help. That is the majority of us.

What is pain? Here is an idea... I have already lost my savings and one of my 2 cars ( the other is a 1997 rusty Honda) and am behind on my house payment. My kids wear shoes that are too small for their feet, my wife's (who is also unemplyed and lost hehr benefits too) clothes and mine are all 2 to 5 years old, we eat mac and cheese more than we do hamburger, I have not been on a vacation of any kind in 3 years, I can't do anything at all for my family. Neither my wife or I caqn get a part time job because we are college educated and way over qualified. I have been reduced to going to WaterParks and picking through the trash for 10 cent returnable can's to pay for basic nessecities.

Somehow, I am still sain... but to those that have jobs, keep them. And... please, don't just say take away unemployment. You have no idea of what pain is until you walk in my shoes and see the affect this has on my 3 children. Pain is crying nearly every night as I try to sleep...

  23. People who believe that the unemployed are rather to be unemployed as long as there are unemployment benefit to collect, this prejudice alone made it harder for unemployed to be employed. It is the same kind of discrimination that some employers hold to refuse hiring the long time unemployed. Some of these prejudice are: unemployed are some how incompetent, less motivated to work, rather live a low life with the unemployment benefit. Will there be a law to protect unemployed on job market just like the laws protecting people with HIV positive, gay, older age...?

  26. The lobbyists now own the government, the middle class exists only to pay for their greed. Banks and Investment companies should NEVER have been bailed-out. Now the special interest lobbies are attempting to make the unemployed the villian when it really started with corporate greed. They moved our jobs to overseas sweat shops to reduce costs. Taxes collected drop when people are out of work. With no jobs here, we are unemployed and now the lobbiests are trying to paint us as lazy - when the created this terrible job market with their corporate greed.

Am I missing something her? Take our jobs, beliittle us for not finding work, and then cut off our benefits while calling us lazy...

Congress thinks the shrinking middle class will continue to pay the bills. With more money and more power, the lobbyiests will never be removed, the people will never treated fairly again.... the greed of the absurdly wealthy tell their tools in Congress to deprive us of our human dignity. They are pushing the people into a dangerous corner.

Maybe the luck will change? the most tiring part of the is getting phone calls from creditors that have hired Immigrants or outsourced the jobs in foreign countries and I have to explain to them why I can't pay? Something just doesn't seem quite right here. Here is a good one. An employer hires immigrants because they are better workers. When in fact they have to hold a job or they face a penalty. What I'm not sure of but dose it make them a better employee? Maybe I'm wrong, this is what I was told by a member of an HR team. Some of my closet friends are from other parts of the world. It's a stereo type of thinking or profiling if you will. Immigrants work, Americans lazy. Talk about equal rights. How many of us had a fun July 4th? I can guarantee that a group of politicians did!

  29. You guys need some cheese for your wine!

The first law of nature is: Only the strong survive. If a wild animal can't find food then it dies from starvation or most likely it gets eaten in a violent death. God did not put us on the planet to complain. If you put more effort into bettering your problem solving skills vs complaining you might have success. How many more weeks is needed and what will you do when it is gone? I know its tough as I am unemployed, but I prepared for this. When my peers were buying fancy houses, new SUVs and going on cruises, I was bringing my lunch to work, driving 10 year-old beaters, and going to garage sales. They laughed at me and called me a cheapskate. No one is laughing now.

So, this doesn't directly affect you. You're sitting idly by watching your government turn its back on millions of Americans. You see the stall-tactics and the lies being told by U.S. Republican Senators just to make the Democratic party look bad. It doesn't directly affect you, so no harm to you, right? I guarantee you that at some time in your life you will be directly affected by it. It may not be by unemployment, but you may have a sick child or become ill yourself one day. Maybe you or your child could be saved if Congress would just approve a controversial treatment and do it quickly, but that treatment isn't in the best interests of a pharmaceutical company that those Senators reside in the back pocket of. Maybe that pharmaceutical company has a vested interest in selling you and others a drug that, while it doesn't help the condition, makes them millions or even billions in profits, thus a cure isn't in the interests of profitability for them or their purchased Congressional votes. You can be as smug as you want while your neighbor is suffering. And, by the way, we're all your neighbors. Should we feel compassion for you when your situation becomes dire through no fault of your own? It will be interesting for you to watch Congressional stall tactics when you need them. Make no mistake. They can be bought. I hope that you're saving your money for when you need their votes. Save plenty, because while they can be bought, they don't come cheap.

  31. What I don't understand is how can someone that has never done an honest days work in their life call us lazy? Every dime they have they either got it from tax dollars or profits from someone elses labor or from special interest groups. They are parasites feeding off of working men and women!!Everything they do is motivated by profits for them. There is no profit in extending unemployment benefits thats why they are in no hurry to pass it.If they were getting a kick back you could bet your life it would have been passed weeks ago.Just like senator hatch wanting to require drug testing his family would have profited from it so he would have voted for that. 33. I am 58 and only speak English, live in Southern California, and we all know it is 3rd on list high unemployment states. There are not any jobs that want me. There are jobs but I have to speak spanish on at least over half of the ones that I thought I had a chance at and so there goes those one, and then there was Knotts Berry Farm and Disneyland, I even got an interview for summer job but I did not get those min wages jobs I know they looked at me as old and I saw how they loved the young adults( wish I was young) I knwo these were part time , min wage I dont care I told them it was fine. The lady told me well usually people taking these jobs are young students or people who dont need another income just do it for fun. I dont know anyone working for fun we all need money. My friends kids are working to help the family now, that is great...What about me, I need work. I will clean your house, help the elderly, work outside, mow lawns or what ever it takes, work nights week ends, overtime, anything but no one wants me. I have a good history of work and never been fired, dont do drugs, or even smoke. I am ok looking and not rich but dress clean, and have a car for now. What can I do, help, the President knows we are all desperate and hunger, and need to take care of our kids and even parents in lots of cases. I went on a dating site and the men say hi pretty lady, where do you work, what kind of car and do you own a house, people are looking for someone with something to cash in on. It is so sick and sad out there. I pray every night for all of us, I know I got a 3 day notice to move and that is so scary and I have pawned my car now and all my other stuffed is pawned now what do I do. I been cut from UDD no extension and who knows what will happen monday with the Senators will show understanding and give us a break for now and if so that would help but now that I have pawned everything and the interest is so high and the rent is late with late fees and other fees can I even pay up with if we get back pay. Well it is not over until it is over, but I am hanging on to a tiny thread and still have a little hope left until I am on the street. I am SO SICK OF the govt and people saying well get a job your not looking hard enough, your lazy, you like living off the govt.. ya right 198 a week and do they think that is fun. It sure would be nice to have heal insurance, I used all my savings to buy COBRA for a year to get my meds and treatment I need for my illness. I know I cant get disablilty it takes years and they deny everyone now. What do I do, Jesus said dont worry about food like the sparrows God always makes sure they eat and dont worry about tomorrow because today has it own problems. Well here I am hungry, and live day by day. I just hope the next step is not standing with a sign saying will work for food, do you think I would get A JOB then.

  34. We must demand that all members of Congress (House and Senate) give up their salaries, benefits and pensions. Then, we should send them all to Afghanistan or Iraq to fight those stupid (not for the rich getting richer at our expense) wars. They may quickly pass a complete unemployment extension for all of us unemployed; they may fix healthcare and give us all medicare benefits immediately; and they may decide to fix Social Security so they have something to retire on.

  35. To the woman who went to college six years and got "A" degree?! Well I have a couple more degrees than "A" degree and it doesn't make me better than you or more informed because I have them so don't take a superior attitude towards people who don't have "A degree" implying they are at all less informed.

The poor taxed the same as the rich? I'd like the details of that statement and tell me what that means. The tax cuts imposed by Bush that will be allowed to expire affect the middle class! The very people Obama agreed not to raise taxes for. But hey wait, a loophole. If we take away a cut that was in place, we aren't raises it for them now are we. This country was founded on the backbone of the middle class and their hard work and they are the ones to bear the burden.
This is an issue about right and wrong for the American people who worked and have earned the right to unemployment.
And to the woman who thinks she is more informed because she has "a degree" learn your history and I don't mean last week's Fox News Report.

  39. Wake up People!!! It's not just the republicans that are to blame. Its the democrats too. They are both acting like spoiled brats and digging in their heels until they get what they want. They ALL need to be voted out. All of them. Not just republicans and not just democrats. We the American people need to show these traitors to the American people that we can and will rise up against them when pushed too far. Stand outside the polls in November and remind voters just what happened this summer. We need to get these greedy traitors out of office period. And if the next group doesnt make things better then vote them out. And keep voting them out until they realize they cant hold us hostage any longer. We have only ourselves to blame because we voted them in in the first place. Now is the time to stand up and correct our mistakes. We must stick together and take back our country. By voting them all out!!!!!! REMEMBER NOVEMBER!!!!!!!!!

  40. It IS the Republicans and a single Democrat. Ben Nelson is trying to satisfy the wealthy in his state. Nebraska has an unemployment rate of only 4.5%. It would be a small number of people rallying to remove him from office, however, he's not up for reelection this year.
I do commend the two Republican senators from Maine who had the guts to break rank and do the right thing, although it took them long enough. Very few people in Congress have that kind of courage today.

  41. Now I am sitting here at the library doing a job search and ran by your comments in here. Not that any of this matters for me, The banks already took my house and car and everything in them. All I got to say is fuck america, ya I said it. My new favorite holiday is 9/11 and cant wait for round 2. What goes around ,comes around Osama, I mean Obama.

  42. Uh, hello? LOL at libs always who blame Booooooooosh! for any problem the left has either created or doesn't know how to deal with!!

Considering the fact that obama's stimulus plan is a failure after one year, with less than a quarter of the $700 billion dollars spent on anything, let alone creating new jobs for people that need them, why hasn't he cut checks for every individual and family in this country. He certainly has enough "lettuce" in his "stash".

  47. I'm trying to deal with day to day stress from being unemployed since 12/08 I've been looking for jobs all this time, but now my computer skills have deteriorated so an employer won't want to hire me even though I probably can do the job. I am turning 61 and with all the age discrimination going on what are the older unemployed to do. We are cheated out of full SS benefits as we are being forced to take early SS. We have to pay bills and housing just like anyone else...where are all the OSHA laws...what a joke! Companies save that money you spend on lawyers to come in and lecture and hire us instead. I am thinking this is a conspiracy so we all die off. What kind of society are we living in?

  51. I hate to tell you that there is no good place for work the whole world is suffering for real I was laid off from my job and exhausted my 26 weeks of unemployment and right now they have a hold on all extension. leaving millions without money to help their families who want to work and wasn't successful at finding a job in these stuck times. If it wasn't for my online business over at MaverickMoneyMakerbizs.com who pays out residual income every month I probably be in a soup line. You more then welcome to join and start earning for yourself but don't look for an employer to pay you what your worth because they not. friends of mind went to school for 4-6 years only to get a job that pays them 13-15 dollars in hour if they even get the job in the first place. You have to have a plan to come up with wealth in your own way. start a business because the gap between rich and poor is at its all time high there will be no middle class have a plan folks. check me out at MakePlentyMoneyOnline.com God Bless and good luck on your journey

  53. I just want to comment to the people who say, "jobs go to younger people". Not really, we are all hurting, young and old alike.

I'm 28, put myself through school, no loans, the hard way. I live in a rural area, no connections, finally got a good job, left school, but graduated, only to find out I was led on by the son in law of a small company, who wanted me out of there as I was outshining him...well the owner liked me, and kept me there, son-in-law threw hissy fits, eventually with the economy, the owner dies of a heart attack...and I get layed off.

Well, I apply like everyone else, and in MA, there is no jobs. None. 20% out of work. Can;t even get a grocery bagging job. Again, I'm 28, hard working, which around here is rare for someone in their 20s. Especially someone who doesn't suck the family teat.

At any rate, I can;t even buy gas, or get a haircut. I've sold most of my clothes and belongings. I don;t eat some days. I want a job! At the very least I could use an extension.

Good luck everyone, but it's going to be getting much worse...

    -Jeremy Laprde

Nobody that has not lost their job knows how it feels. Nobody. Not my closest friends or family can even begin to comprehend. They are so clueless, some don't even recognize it is a recession...seriously guys, we are forgotten, it really is survival of "the greedy pricks" right now, and we're f*cked...god dammit

  55. I, like most unemployed Americans have been on pins and needles waiting at the mercy of the US Senate thinking to myself, "why on earth would they be willing to help out other countries but not the people on their own soil who need it the most." We were not fired from our jobs, we were laid off. This was not our fault yet we are repeatedly being slapped in the face. I got lucky twice in the last two weeks. Our neighborhood convenience store was looking for part-time help and hired me know that if I did find a full-time job I agreed to still help them on the weekends. Then, after sending out what seemed like 1000 resumes in the last year and a half I finally got set up with an interview to be a Recruiter for a staffing agency which is what my degree is in. They offered me the job on the spot. To everyone who has been looking and struggling, as someone who has been through it too, I know it's hard but don't quit. I didn't and I finally relax for a while and take a much needed deep breath. As for the Republican Senators and members of the House...come election time...enjoy being out of work...because I'm sure the majority of you will not be reelected. Too bad none of you will have to go through what we all have been and still continue to do. Try sitting in the shoes of one of your unemployed constituents for a day and see what it's like. Hopefully that would make you feel like crap that you said "NO" to them.

  58. How are you supposed to send your kids back to school, when you can't even buy school supplies?
Everytime I hear someone say surely you can get a job somewhere, I want to scream.
I hope our esteemed masters in DC will be over their hangovers and gorgeing themselves during their long holiday enough to get down to business. Bet the time went by real fast for them. Actually, I want to leave the USA.I probably could get a job elsewhere. All the years I paid taxes, served my country, never asked for anything...now I need help to get by a little longer (do gotta eat, have gas money, be able to go to interviews, etc.) It's not right some have had benefits for 2 years and more. And some of us aren't expecting that.
To the post ahead of me...our jobs have been sold out for cheap and in some cases slave labor elsewhere. This is not the America I grew up in. Both parties are to blame. It's all about the rich getting richer. Global s---.
