2010 Unemployment Extension Benefits Bill: Are Americans Forgotten?

The long awaited Benefits Extension was signed into law last week by President Obama, but didn't take into consideration the millions of jobless Americans with no extensions left. The true question to ask ourselves now is: What about the 99ers? A tier 5 was not in the bill but there are thousands of Americans still without the needed benefits.
The bill that was signed into law was a good start, but it was cut short for many people who are still left without any benefits. Will there be a Tier 5? Only time will tell, the way the economy is many Americans goes to bed every single night hoping that a Tier 5 will be passed.
As of today, there is nothing on the books for a Tier 5 and the bill that was signed in was a start,  for many Americans it was just not enough. With unemployment at an all time high, or at last where many of us have never seen and it seems like everyday things you buy keep getting higher many without a job could use a Tier 5.
The question for many people who didn’t benefit from the new bill is will there be a new bill that will include the 99ers? One can only hope that the government can see that many of us still need help in these hard and troubling times.

  11. We have to stand up and get some help here or this country is going down the crapper.
The number of 99ers are rising daily--people with no form of income who will soon be homeless. Many millions of people will turn to the welfare system for healthcare, food stamps and emergency aid. Families will be breaking up. Children sent away, or taken by child welfare to where they can be fed and housed. The foster system will be glutted with more children than there are families to care for. Meanwhile crime will rise...all the while the police force has been cut--in very high crime areas like Oakland California. People will do things they never dreamed they would do. Many will lose themselves. Drug and alcoholism will rise -- as there is little escape from such bleakness...Of course many people will die. Many will take their own lives having lost everything they worked for their entire lives knowing they can never get it back, ever. There will be others who die from lack of healthcare. Sad isn't it? What will become of us? Of this country??

  12. The way BOTH parties are treating the American is dispicable and a disgrace !
The worst depression since 1929, caused by the criminals on Wall Street, yet the Senate went on a July 4th vacation, without passing the extension bill, was utter disgraceful.

We give Israel $10 Million a day, a foreign country, yet our own Government won't help unemployed American's with a Tier 5 - dispicable !

The Republican's filibustered HR4213 Emergency Unemployment Extension for six weeks. They stated that the extension of $34 Billion be paid for, even though this is classed Emergency spending and doesn't have to be justified through PAYGO. This same Republican party under Bush gave the richest 2% a tax break which cost us $700 Billion and WAS NOT paid for.

So much for the born again fiscal responsible Republican's !

In November Vote for your Independent candidate, lets show the corporate stooges of BOTH the Republican's and Democrats we as a people have had enough of the both !!!

  13. I went to the UI office in Indiana, their workers are being kept in the dark about everything. I have "confirmations" on 4 back weeks of filings which only state that they are unpaid, but the UI consular indicates that they have been denied. I really think they are making up excuses so the state can generate interest on the funds. The news media should investigate this deeper and report the real facts.

  14. I finally spoke to someone at the unemployment office today here in Florida and was told checks should go out in about 3 weeks!!! 3 weeks??? you have to be kidding me!! we waited 2 months for the extension to be passed and now they expect us to wait 3 more weeks. I don,t know what I,m almost 60 years old and never been on unemployment before, never had a problem finding a job before. I have applied to every place possible including Mcdonalds, outside labor jobs and I am a 60 year old female. I would take any job but cant get hired, they say i;m over qualified!! hat the heck!! My heart goes out to the 99ers and I worry I will be in that position one day soon. We live in America and this should not be happening. Stop sending money to everyone else and help your fellow Americans.

  15. everyone who is unemployed deserves the assistance which they recieve from unemployment because it has been payed for but our hard working individuals and the taxes which are taken out of the pay. there should not be any guessing as to if there is there should be all the assistance anyone needs in this country.

  16. Ha, we have to wait for our UI checks when a audit reveals the US cannot account for $8.7B in Iraqi funds. Maybe that is where the money is.

I would clean toliets right now if I could. I have 3 kids starting school in 2 weeks and I can't even afford paper and pencils.THIS IS HOW THEY TREAT THEIR TAX PAYING CITIZENS, WE NEED TO STAND TOGETHER.

  20. It is sad that all 99ers are left out. We are in financial ruin already and have no way out of it. We still have no jobs and are losing everything daily. There are no jobs out there and if you are a boomer you don't even get answers back from those you apply to. I don
t know what is going to happen to us all at thos point. We are going to be living in the streets and begging for food. We do not qualify for welfare or medical help of any kind. How are we suppose to look for jobs when we can't even afford the gas in our cars to get there. We have zero money. All of our savings are gone and the 401k is gone too. We have maxed out all credit cards and now can't pay the bills and once the food is gone that is it. This is how we live now in fear. And the ignorant congress thinks we are lazy and don't want a job. Yep we just want to sit and do nothing while we lose our homes, cars, possessions and our dignity. How the President can sit back and not do something is unthinkable as well. The only thing we have is we know that all of you will be voted out by us as you don;t deserve to represent us in any way shape or form. We are done voting for you all. You make us sick and as things get worse the crime and tempers will grow and who do you think will be on receiving end of it? You have created a runaway train that has no way of stopping. Our economy will never recover and it will get worse. Thanks for all your help and concern congress.

  28. States over 10% unemployed usually get 4 tiers of assistance. Then you can get another 20 weeks if you are a qualifying state. EB - Once all that is done you got 99 weeks of unemployment and you are done. Some states under 10% don't even have 4 tiers.

  29. I was a nurse for 35 years and am 60, got laid off with a group of others in my general age group because I was due for a pay raise. Now I've gone through any savings, 401k and any spare change I had. I have no health coverage. I am renting and will soon have to live in one room if that. I thought as a nurse I'd always have a job, but most places hire new grads with no experience. All those years of caring for others and no one cares for me now. When I hear people say we are lazy I become so crazy. I'm still so capable and am a darn good nurse. I've applied for jobs that don't even require a high school diploma. In fact, I've applied for any job I can find, barely even paying minimum wage, and some under that. No one wants me, I'm "over-qualified." I know so many nurses who can't find work and there is supposed to be a nursing shortage. The hospitals and HMO clinics pay their ceo's obscene salaries and hire too many inexperienced nurses and not enough nurses period. It creates dangerous staffing for patients who don't realize how vulnerable they are. I would work as a nurse for a new grad salary or less, but they don't want to give me health insurance, the companies who actually make the hiring decisions in many instances. I've been told this by friends in human resources. Meanwhile, we have the wealthiest 2 % who often have their money off-shore and so many pay no taxes. They may lose their Bush huge tax cut he gave them when it will expire very soon and the Republicans mislead us now by telling us we are all getting a huge tax raise when really they are the ones who are losing their immoral Bush tax cut that the middle class paid for so many years. We need to elect people to congress who will pledge to save a middle class because under Bush we almost lost it and I believe the Republicans still have an agenda to eliminate it and dump us all into a lower class who will be forced to work for very low wages if we can even work period. I have already entered the lower class. Most of the jobs will go the way billions of them have already gone, overseas. America needs to wake up and see the truth. I honestly see me as a bag lady soon. I just don't know how I will ever find a job and even though I am doing volunteer work, noone can afford to pay me any salary. There are so many of us. We need the tier 5, but even more importantly, we need to make sure another Bush/Cheney type group never literally robs and lies to our country again. Help and hope to us all. Hang in there and lets save this great country from the third world status we've been headed for for so many years. We all love our country, all of us 99ers and all of you. Please don't forget us and we'll not forget you. Together we are winners no matter how hard the multi-national corporations try to keep us fighting with ourselves over petty issues that are only a distraction they love to keep us preoccupied with. We HAVE to join together and we can do this.. There are way more of us than them. I think the independent Senator Bernie Sanders is the kind of thinker we need in congress if we
are ever going to have any chance to save our country. He's not my Senator, but he's so good. Please check out all you can find on him and then look for other people to vote for, too, who agree with him. He doesn't lie and we can't have all these liars in Congress anymore, especially in the Senate. We need each other, we can't afford to be divided anymore. There are way more of us than them and we need to remember that. They are out to rob us again and again. So, I'll say it once more. Talk to each other and stop arguing about the small stuff. We need to save ourselves, all of us. Thanks for reading.

  30. I have read on the internet where some states had their unemployment office workers work over the weekend and even process the checks manually so the unemployed in their states would get their checks ASAP. You know over the past couple of months waiting on the extension to get passed we heard all these downgrading comments from the sorry ass senators about us unemployed people including we all should have been better prepared for losing our jobs. So why are all these States not Prepared to distribute our checks when they knew dam well the extension would probably pass! Here in Tn. they have only mentioned it 1 time in the local paper and news saying they have to upgrade their computer systems then mail out letters in 2 to 4 weeks giving us the details. I say this is BULLSHIT...
and yeah right all of the sudden the computer systems have to be updated. They think we are stupid enough to believe anything. It would not surprise me a bit if both our sorry ass republican senators are delaying it on purpose since they both voted against the extension. I worked 25 years for the same company until they shut down last year and I can't get a job at McDonalds now. Went from making 70 grand a year to shit and I am sick of it. I do not see anything getting any better. I say it is time for a new REVOLUTION at any expense. It is time for US to take a stand and FIGHT our sorry ass goverment. I never thought I would be mad enough to say this: but it might not be such a bad idea for one of us to fly a plane straight into where all the SENATORS meet and get rid of all of them.

Nothing for 99ers - you read the bill incorrectly.

If you are over 50 and lost your job, finding employment no matter your skill and education level is extremely difficult, and for most of us, impossible. We paid into the insurance for decades, and now we are being treated like welfare junkies. We manufactured a war based on fictional WMD so Haliburton and other corporations and suck away out tax dollars - 100's of billions of dollars and they did not, do not, have to be accountable; and here we are being tossed in the garbage. Shame on you America. Shame on you Republicans. Shame on you Democrats for not sticking up for ALL of us, not just the 99ers, but those in states with U.E. rates below the national average - they need to eat too!

    ReplyDelete
  37. It's too bad nobody reads these comments except for those of us unemployed. We need to call, and write these law makers, I heard this morning that 30 billion dollars more was allocated to the war effort, so far what have we accomplished there? the Taliban is not weaker. Lets remember these clowns comes November.

    ReplyDelete
  38. We can give the Pakastan government money to give to the Taliban to kill our men and women, but, can't help out the 99ers who have been hurting the most in this depression? All of them need to go!

  39. The Republicans and Democrats are vacationing, whining, and dining while we starve, worry, and can't sleep. We have no reason for hope as there is no discussion at all about a Tier V. We now have to contemplate how to feed our families and what abandoned building we will squat in until a job offers employment...unlikely. On top of that our friends are tired of helping out as they are also worrying about losing their jobs. Some of us don't have family to rely on and we have children and pets who rely on us. Our credit is destroyed and accumulating interest, our cars are repossessed, our homes are in foreclosure, we are receiving eviction notices, and we have no where to turn. Thoughts that would never enter our minds are now being contemplated........... Please don't force us to kick in to a mode of survival as it can lead to serious, undesirable, unhealthy, and unsafe outcomes. 99ers need help too, we have not gone away and we are still looking for work so why aren't we included in this relief? Tier V to survive, don't pick and choose who needs help. We all do!!!!!! Enough is enough!

  40. florida people listen up...I just got off the phone with the fluidnow people...she said we will see the money in our accounts the same way we did the last time...she said you need not fill anything out and that the letter that you keep hearing about when you're on hold with them is simply the same statement letter we used to get everyone telling us what we have left or whatever...she said that they were told on the day obama signed the bill ( july 22nd ) that it would be about 2 weeks before we see the money so next wednesday...but she also said that some would begin seeing it before then and some would be a little later...just depends on when your name comes up in the mix...she said they have to do everyone manually and thats why it will, and is taking so long ..she said to go onto your fluidnow account just like we always did to claim your weeks and you will just see it there in your account one day ( whenever that is)....so just keep checking your account everyday I guess..

    ReplyDelete
  41. For Georgia unemployed the Unemployment website states that funds should be out by 7/30th. I checked my account and the funds were forwarded today. I realize how bad people are suffering and that they are depending on the government for their survival during these tough economic times, but I believe you are going to have to make the most of your resources to get through this. If you have exhausted everything then I feel for you. I took the opportunity after I was laid-off to seek additional training in another field of business and have been able to make connections as recently as this week to move forward in this new career path. I cannot go through this again and feel fortunate that I'm able to make some positive moves. I wish you all well in your endevaors and make sure that you are at the polls on November 2nd to voice your disgust in what we have just gone through. I know I will be there.

    ReplyDelete
  42. 99ers get ready to be evicted, car repossed, no food, no money to pay for a phone, no gas money to go find a job and then we will be pushed to the edge and watchout for those who have never lost everything before because some of them might go crazy and do whatever it takes to survive. Congress and Mr. President you have intentionally left us out of your extension bill because you had enough votes to bust the filibuster, Olympia Snow and Collins would of at least let you keep that in the bill, yet you let it get stripped out and now we dont even know if after you take your month long recess if you will even try and get something through before your f*&king mid-term elections. Im so mad at this governement, especially when I hear how many billions they are sending overseas to help rebuild other f*&king nations yet they cant help us here at home. You dont have to go to Princeton or Harvard to figure out the economic damage the government is taking on by not including the 99ers. Thats my vent and blog for the hour. 99ers we will have to find a way to stand stronger than any other group out there and make ourselves be heard. Do whatever it takes...

  43. WOW, Republicans in Congress whom only maybe only (2) have voted to even grant an unemployment extension with or without the 99ers were on television stating that Democrats were turning the United States into a socialist Euro country. Well I guess the anger is that the Dems arn't doing enough to ruin the country because the Reps policies like voting no for unemployment extensions is turning the United States into a 3rd world country. Some nerve huh.

  45. People, let's face it!!! Once the jobs are created or existing one's begin to hire they will not be looking for the 99ers, it wouldn't make sense. They will be hiring those that still have benefits because they are the most recently layed off; therefore, they win both ways with this new extension and first pick of the jobs. We, on the other hand, are forgotten.... No one wants someone who is older, out of work for so long, and can't afford to get to work or wear decent clothing. We are screwed and they know it and DON'T CARE AT ALL. However, there is a higher power at work and all of those SOB's will reap what they sow. 99ers hang in there "Vengeance is mine!" said the Lord. You better believe it. I feel all of your pain, we are starving over hear and have lost everything...just as planned. This was not a mistake!!!

  46. I'm so sorry for the people who are on Tier V, I heard today that a few are calling on Reid to cancel vacation for senators until they provide some relief for the 99ers. I just finished tier 2. but it has been 7 weeks and still no check. Cashed all change have no money and everything is almost 2 months over due, so soon no electricity or phones. As I've heard from others it is time for a revolution when Wall st gets billions, then stills billions, destroys many honest American lives and now they have record profits and bonuses. How? I say revolt against the entire institution, they are nothing but elitist scum exploiting us and our Country.
