Unemployment Extension 2010: Another "Blame it on Bush" Moment

The unemployment extension will be brought to vote again, and it's another "Blame it on Bush" occasion. Today, Obama opened up about the extension bill and once again blamed republicans for the nation's problems.  Of course, that is all not surprising as our President is a Democrat.  However, politics and the partisan lines are why millions of Americans are suffering.

Others blame Obama for the skyrocketing unemployment, as his stimulus plan was a complete and utter failure. Had he calculated this measure correctly - or not passed it at all - then it's argued that the nation would be in a better state right now.

There is only one vote needed to pass the measure, and it's believed that Carte Goodwin, the newest West Viginia senator who will be sworn in tomorrow, will vote for the bill bringing it to a passage in the Senate.

If that doesn't occur, there's little word about what 'Plan B' will entail.

Considering that billions of dollars have been spent on the stimulus bill bailing out wall street, helping Americans is the only thing that will show that the government is still acting with the best interests of taxpayers.

Once the unemployment extension is passed, many are hoping that a new tier 5 bill will be introduced.  This extension doesn't include a fifth tier of benefits, which is something that millions that have exhausted all four tiers of the current available benefits need.

  2. Dear Senators

I am a 54 year old Mexican-American, Arizona State resident and United States Citizen, my ancestors, family and I have worked hard here, and I need you to vote for a Tier 5 Unemployment extension. I need this extension to pay my mortgage. Please note that of the 99 weeks I have been out of full time work that I have worked 26 of those weeks as a part time worker. During that time I earned as little as $200 a week (less money than I have earned in my whole life). My unemployment check (at that time) was $186 a week. This means I made $0 dollars in unemployment benefits for the 26 week period. Please also understand that if I could find a job I would work it. You on the other hand have a job (a good paying job) so do your job and pass a bill that will benefit not only me but millions of unemployed hard working and deserving Americans!

    Sincerely,

    Daniel E. Reyes III, M.S.

  4. To everyone that is on unemployment and is responding to these blogs. We can sit in front of our computers and complain. That might make you feel a little better to let off some steam but the Senators that are blocking the extension benefit bill are not reading these blogs. They don’t care. What we can do is take action. Start calling every Senator that is blocking this bill. Most of these guys opposing this bill are millionaires, so you can see why they don’t care. To find your Senators contact info go to Senate.gov. Once you get their DC office number and fax number blast their phones with calls everyday. Some of them are saying unemployment benefits is just an incentive to not look for work and have even said we were lazy. So call and call and call. We have to get our message across. Let me be clear if you have a phone service that will charge you a fee for calling Washington DC then don’t, save your money for your family. The rest of us that have a phone plan that doesn’t charge for long distance don’t have an excuse! Now Ben Nelson is on this list. This is a democrat who voted no and why not his net worth is 17 million and doesn’t get it. So quit complaining and flood those lines. Flood – Flood – Flood those lines. Just added Senator Reid to the list. He called Obama weak when he (Reid) could have made the Senate stay over the 4th break until this bill was passed, but he wanted the President to come to his state for a fund raiser. Now they won’t even vote on the bill till Tuesday the 20th so include him to the calls. You don’t even have to pick your Senator; Senator Kyl said this last week that unemployment benefits is a necessary evil, so his phone needs flooded with calls. We can sit back and wait or use some energy to do something ourselves. Flood those lines. Don’t forget this November about those Senators and Congressman that have voted no on this bill. Vote them out. It isn’t because of the deficit that they voted no; they have been against everything the Democrats tried to pass since Obama was sworn in. In fact Minority leader Mitch McConnell told a group of young republicans last week the GOP has it’s groove back by stopping all the Dem’s progress. They are playing politics with our lives.

  5. Sir, no offense, but why do you insist on always using Mexican American bcse I have seen you on many sites. Your title will not make it any better bcse if anything, it only fuel the fire of everyone bcse the Americans see other situations as the problem. So, my advice to you is to simply ask the gov't to extend the benefits. Just keep it simple bcse I have a feeling that you will get a lot of negative feed back bcse I have seen it already. God Bless all of us tomorrow with the voting of the extension of benefits...

  7. Plan B, Well the only step I can think of if they continue to toy with Americans and their well being is: Looting of department stores, Armed robberies, Murder, prostitution, etc etc etc. I mean what are these people thinking? They are so out of touch with main stream that they are really running it passed certain people to hunt them down and beat them down? Sorry, but I am a married man with a 2 year old daughter and if it comes down to it, I will do WHATEVER IT TAKES TO MAKE SURE MY FAMILY IS TAKEN CARE OF!

  11. I will say a prayer you pass the unemployment extension, because I have never had this hard of a time trying to find a job my entire life. I have had back surgery & 4 neck surgeries from a car accident & w/out my unemployment I have 2 weeks to find a job & I had to go to a health dept for medical help for my pain management & I have a heart murmer that if I can't afford to go to the health dept I will not get my heart medicine & I could have a massive heart attck! So whomever is thinking unemployment is fun, you have no idea how depressing it is & how you have to struggle & pray to God you all extend it so we can buy food & pay for medical needs, or our children and anything else we need to survive. It's not our fault the world had been laid off, & if you were jobless, worried sick how your going to pay your next car payment to keep your car SO U CAN KEEP LOOKING FOR A JOB you would pass the bill with no question if it were you struggling at 42 yrs old. How can you all have no compassion for all of us that have worked hard all our lifes & you all have prob never known what it's like to struggle- Be right w God & pass the darn bill!

I have always provided for my family, My wife works part time and cannot get anymore hours at her job, or find another. I was fired from my job due to a work injury. While on unemployment I went back to school in an attempt to better my families future and get the training I need to be succesful. Due to this cut off I have had to quit school and am attempting ( Every day, multiple times a day) to find a job! I have applied at over 30 places in one month and have had no luck. Like everyone else, My wife and I have dreams, we have needs, we need this money just to get by. Not only can I not find a job, I also have no car so I am relying on loved ones for some help. I rent off my grandpa and if I cant pay him rent, he cant pay his mortgage. So I must sit here and feel responsible for ruining anothers life? Or leave and put my family on the streets. If this bill does not pass tomorrow and relief isnt provided within the next week. I hope everyone in office voting against our lively hood dies! I hope this because what will we do without it? : DIE! We will die. People are already committing suicide due to this. I have lost all sympathy for people like the fat cats in senate. They are taking from me and I hope everything gets taken from them!

There are a lot of people using vulgarity in these comment threads. I refuse to judge any one of them; I'm very sure they're getting angrier with every passing moment. It's scary to think what will happen when it goes from vulgar expressions on the net, to desperate acts on the streets.

  23. Hey average Unemployed Joe...Don't even use the word THINK. It already happened, in my hometown alone, an ex-employee of a fiber-optic place who got laid off, claimed 4 lives, well make that 5 because he took his life after the shooting and few others were seriously injured. If you remember, this happened last week here in Albuquerque, NM. The media claimed it was a domestic violence, but the people who knew that guy said it was due to the lay-off. The world is twisted as it is now. So, I'm not one bit surprise.

  27. Every senator who voted "no" the last time an unemployment extension bill was voted on is personally responsible for every man, woman and child who has been put out on the streets since July 1st and they are each responsible for every person who has taken their lives as a result of their inaction. ONE vote would have changed millions of lives for the better. They consciously withheld what they had to give, which was their vote. "As you are even unto the least of my creatures, so you are also unto me."

  35. Come on people, let's stop fighting amongst each other. We are ALL unemployed together. I do agree we must make as much noise as possible. Very good idea. And as for vulgarity, the only thing vulgar is the way we are being treated in theses times. Cuss words don't bother me, but treating me and all of us like we are worthless does indeed bother me. A lot of people on here are saying stuff we need to hear, especially that we will be forced to live like animals by any means necessary if this situation keeps on going. So, we need to do whatever it takes to get what's ours, and that means good jobs, good housing, good food and everything else we all work so hard for! Peace to all and keep your heads up!

  39. **** HEY EVERYBODY ****

Do a goggle or you-tube search for FEMA prison
camps, and FEMA coffins. At any other time, I
myself would have laughed at these topics, but
as I look around and see the mess our Country
is in and how the goverment has totally ruined
our economy it makes one wonder if there may be
something to it! Maybe our so-called leaders
have been planning the collapse of the United
States for some time now. Who knows, maybe it
is their plan for over-population control.
School will be starting soon, winter is just
around the corner, and most of us have lost
everything including our credit to rely on in
case of an emergency. It does not take a Genie
to see in our very near future that rioting in
    our streets, violence, murders, suicides,and
even people having a heart attack or stroke
over worrying about all of this. So those FEMA
clips may not be so far-fetched after all.
Does anybody truely see anything getting any
better? Another concern we may need to have is
that with Our Country so occupied with the bad
economy and everyone on edge and at each others
throats,..do we have our guard down, are we
more vunerable to attacks from other countries
or even nuclear? I Hope and Pray that things
will get back to the good we all had before!
    God Bless The USA

  40. Spell? The RNC, like all the GOP, is best at teaching people what to think. Sit back, relax Americans. Listen to all the corporate owned media. Our ministers of propaganda are on 24/7.
Fact: Rush, Beck, Hannity, all the way down to local right wing talkies get talking points faxed and e-mailed to them every day. A local guy on the radio told me. I already figured such. I mean, you hear one, you hear them all. When you read blogs, right wingers all sound the same. The deficit, blah blah. Get a job, blah. Right wingers are enough to bore you to death. They don't know how to think for themseves. They are like programmed robots. And
so easily angered, like they are going to bust a gut if you disagree with them. They got a problem. Control freaks. Anyone who would put W Bush in office twice got a problem. Meatheads. Then they offer McCain/Palin. Can't wait to see who they offer up next.
They didn't want Mitt because he may be too intellegent for them. He doesn't seem to fit with the wackos. Like some of these republican posters do.

Do a google to Consequence Management Response Force. We are talking military unit here in the US. Trained, among other things to control civil unrest. This is no joke. Not police, not national guard. US Military. Northern Command. North America. That's us. They say in case of national emergency, the unit may be sent wherever. George W Bush signed on to it, as he did Blackwater. Google Blackwater. Look up The Carlyle Group . Bush, his dad, Cheyney, Halliburtin, the Saudi's, The Carlyle Group are behind so much it boggles the mind. FEMA camps. In the "interest of national security", congress can't find out about some of this info. Members have said so. Either Obama is in on what insiders are doing, or, he may find out, like JFK.- the CIA runs things. Daddy Bush was head of CIA. I personally think he, Cheney, and their cabal ran everything when W was in the white house. Interesting W will not release his papers while president. All others have. Reason? National security. Of course.

  44. The Bush Administration led America into the crisis we are in today. The same Republicans are still in office and continue to contribute to our economic crisis.

The Obama Administration wants change for the people but the GOP’s keep filibustering and only represent the wealthy. Don’t buy into the fact that the Republicans also want the UI Extension to pass by using stimulus funds. The stimulus funds are for job creation and to help our States with their budget deficits which will help to save City & State jobs and the GOP’s know it.

The Republicans never allowed the unemployment to lapse under the Bush Administration. They seek failure under the Obama Administration no matter the cost. In this case, the cost of the struggling middle class citizens.

The Republican’s and Ben Nelson (except for Olympia Snowe & Susan Collins) have shown no sympathy for the unemployed. In fact, they accused us of being lazy, drug addicts and Hobos

The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. They raped this country. They don't care what is best, don't care what is right. It's all about money and power. Bet a lot of them wish we still could have slaves.
(I am white.) I actually had a church going Republican man tell me one of the main reasons he wanted Obama out of office, is because he's black. He agrees with Obama on some things, but that doesn't count. JEEEZE. I didn't vote for him, but after seeing what people are going through, my eyes have been opened. The left is not a danger to the USA. The Right is. The above message to Southern Man helped me to see a lot...actually' I'm afraid all that info is just the tip of the iceberg.

  47. Look, it is simple. Business and jobs are now overseas. There is an abundance of 3rd world labor here. The rich powerful and well connected will have first dibbs on any decent jobs. Your chance of getting a decent paying and desirable job has fallen to about zero.

If we don't place ultra-high tariffs on imported goods and kick our illegal aliens, along with placing a very low cap on legal immigration, we are doomed. It is in the cards, read 'em and weep! An extension of time, a block of more weeks of job-benefit-welfare, is simply pointless!

  55. Thinks back what it was, when I had a nice job with benefits. It was a job I can just live a comfortable life and not stress about how I’m going to pay my next month rent and do without regular everyday necessity. Which I thought was the job I was going to be retiring from when I turn 65 of age, but all of it was taken away from me due to 2003 job layoff. Seem like my life begins to crumble and was unbelievable to me. Not only did I lost the means of proving for myself but had to go back home to live with my mom which I had no attention of returning back to the nest.
From 2003 to 2005 I was collecting unemployment since I could not find another job to prove the means of a livelihood. I then started working temporary agency jobs and was on unemployment off and on from 2005 to 2008. I was just living from paycheck to paycheck just barely paying my bills which I was totally behind on. I later found a job which I really love going to, waking up to and thinking I finally have my brake to where I can totally provide for myself, and move back on my own. Instead, due to the Michigan state governor closing down the company I was working at which took me years to find a job that offered me benefits and live a comfortable life but left 100 plus people jobless.
I’m thankful, but at the same time, tire of living on unemployment. I just want to be able to get up in the morning, get myself together for work and go make my earnings at the job, but no. I sit in the house, hoping some job will call me which I had surf and applied for on the internet every day. Instead I also sit home angry, anxiety, depress, stress, worry, and sometimes suicidal.
I guess if I did not have my faith in God, I would have ended my life along time ago. Which I hope and pray that a new change will come to where I will not have to depend on the government but have a job that is stable to prove for my own comfortably.

I have mixed emotions about the "benefits" she has been receiving. Do we need the money? Yes. But I don't want to mortgage my daughters future to pay for it. I don't understand why President Obama refused to pay for the extension by other means. Such as using funds avaliabke from the failed stimulus program. He signed a "Pay Go" law into effect last year that stated that any new spending would be paid for without adding to our terrible national debt. I'm torn. I don't want America to become a welfare state like other countries. "The government owes me something." We see what is happening in Greece. The entitlement mentality.

  58. Please, please don't forget the 99ers and the others who have exhausted all 4 tiers. Continue to lobby your congressional delegation on their behalf. I'm not one of them, but we've all experience what it's like to be without benefits. It could happen to any of the rest of us until more jobs are available.
I wrote a thank you email to both Maine senators this afternoon and commended them for having the fortitude to break from their party lines and do the humanitarian thing. I'm sure they're taking heat from their party. Maybe they'd appreciate more thank yous. One of the senators from my state deserves no thanks at all.

  59. To the 10:27 PM post: We will not forget. I will send a thank you e-mail to the lone Repubs who voted yes.
Funny how George W. Bush's name keeps showing up on these sites. Who was that talk show guy who used to call them the Bush crime family?
I heard someone who worked for W when he was guv here in Austin say W did nothing except sit in his office and play video games. For hours. Staff did everything, except go to photo ops, parties. Maybe that's what congress does.
Watching the senate chamber today on c-span except for a few, they mostly look like cadavers moving in slow motion. The one time there was a spark of life - when Carte Goodman voted yes, and dems cheered- they were rebuked for displaying approval. Is this a great country, or what? In Japan, (the Diet it is called ) they scream and throw chairs. In England (Parlament) they yell and call each other bloody rotters. In DC they have to act so proper, dignified. I think they take all their anger and frustration out on us. I can see Hatch going home and kicking his dog. Like to kick him and most Republicans where it hurts.

  61. We dont blame Bush - we blame the repoublicns. No unemployment? Thank the republicans! No tier 5? Thank the republicans !For the rest of you -When the economy stalls again - you can thank the republicans too. The republican’s weren’t worried about the deficit when that big insurance company and their friends the Wall Street execs were giving themselves bonuses with taxpayer money!!! Next election – let Congress feel the sting of the unemployment lines!!! No more raping and pillaging the middle class!!! – How many years have you paid taxes? 30? 40? Your government bails out bankers and Wall Street execs using your tax dollars – but unemployment is allowed to expire? What happened to "by the people" or "for the people"? Or are the big campaign contributors the only "people" who count to congress? They are playing games AGAIN FOR THE THIRD TIME while you are wondering how to feed your kids? Figure it out! Malfeasance – Failure of a public official to perform their duties!!! Next Election MAKE YOURSELF MATTER BY VOTING!!! 10% unemployment carries 10% of the vote! Use it!! Fire them all next election or recall every Congress member NOW for Malfeasance – Failure of a public official to perform their duties!!! Next Election - Lets get people elected who actually represent all the People- this current congress represents only special interest groups!

  63. How is that "Hope and Change" working out? Obama said that with the stimulus passed the unenployment rate would not go above 8%. We're at 9.5%, not counting those unemployed who have stopped looking for work. If you count those people it's more like 17%. Remember congress passes bills and spends the money. No one seems to mention that the Dems have been in charge of congress and propped up the housing market which led to collapse that we are all enjoying now. I would say that both parties should shoulder the blame. Get over blaming Bush for everything. He wasn't great, but we would be far better off with him and a conservative congress in control.
