A 99ers Tier 5 Benefit and Unemployment Extension Update

A Tier V unemployment extension is still a big wish for the 99ers. The unemployment extension will not be passed in August, and it's highly unlikely that September will bring any more good news. October could be plausible - but only if the Senate and the House would whip themselves to the same page. We all know the likelihood of that, now - don't we?

To deny the 99ers of the benefits they so desperately need via a Tier 5 unemployment extension is a travesty of modern day. It goes to show that while Obama is on vacation with his family in Martha's Vineyard, there are millions of Americans wondering where their next meal will come from or if they will be able to pay rent next month.

Debbie Stabenow's S3706 bill seeks to solve the underlying unemployment extension problem. It adds an additional 20 weeks of benefits to states with over 7.5% unemployment, and gives businesses tax breaks to give them an incentive to hire.

While all of this may not be a breaking unemployment extension update - it's important to keep the position and arguments for a tier 5 extension fresh - especially during voting season.

  4. Congress gets BIG salaries to make law and conduct business for the USA. Why don't they start by cutting their paychecks and having them feel the pain and desperation that we feel. Then they would quickly pass another extension if THEY were the ones that it helped. I pray that the Lord touches their hearts to help the many citizens of the USA. God forgive them if they don't.

  5. democrats or republicans, what is the difference they are all liars. they only help those in the special interest groups that dump money in their campaigns that help them get elected. the dems are setting the stage for the republicans to take over with their spending, so when the the other party takes over the economy will fail totaly. all the money the dems are spending in other countries , they should be spending in this country to get it back on its feet. a tier 5 would help greatly. i do not know what planet these people are from but where i live you cannot buy a job. i drive as much as 75 miles one way looking for work. anything is better than nothing. i am losing my house, i have to borrow money to buy gas and i cannot afford insurance.. as i said a tier 5 would help.obama says he is concerned, well he could sign an executive order for a tier 5 ,but he will not.vote all the liars out of office and strip them of their pension and let them see what is like to not have anything. please do not elect anyone from the tea party!

  6. As we all know, there are SO many ways of getting this bill paid for to pease the GOP. If this is not taken care of and the people continue to suffer it will be the fault of both parties. They only care about thier own interests. If they cared about the constitution or the American people we would not be in the state we are in. I have to say I dont have a lot of faith in our politicians but I do have faith in the Lord and believe that he will take care of those that do not take care of their own!

  7. Tier V is desparately needed by so many hard working Americans who through NO FAULT of their own lost jobs in this economy. Were not talking about idle housewives looking for a job to fill thier hours. Were talking about head of households who desparately need to keep thier lives afloat who are lOOKING and LOOKING eveyday for employment. Yet the jobs are JUST NOT THERE. That is whats going on in this county. PASS EXTENDED BENEFITS AND TIER V NOW, GIVE THESE PEOPLE SOME HOPE. THE PRESIDENT SHOULDN'T BE FLAUNTING HIS VACATIONS IN HYANNIS PORT [ TO SIMILAR TO THE KENNEDY'S FOR MY TASTE ANYWAY], AND OTHER FAMILY PERKS FOR HIS OFFICE, WHILE AMERICAN PEOPLE ARE MINUTE BY MINUTE LOSING THIER HOMES, LIVING ON THE STREETS, DONT KNOW IF THEY WILL EAT A MEAL TODAY.

THIS IS A TRAVESTY FOR THE UNITED STATES. He is where the buck stops, he needs' to help people in this country NOW.

I have called his office ( I live in CONN)and TWICE his staff hung up on me.
So, on the second option on his voice mail, I have left 10+ messages.

  12. The 99ers are nothing more than a political football and unless we do something about it we will remain that way. The Democrats can introduce all of the tier bills they want to but the Republicans will stand in the way every single time. Why? Because they are Democrat bills. It doesn't matter what the bill is for, it only matters that the Democrats are backing it. Neither the deficit nor fiscal responsibility enters into it, all that matters is that Republicans are not seen working with the Democrats.

It should come as no surprise that passing a tier five will be a long and time consuming process if it happens at all. There is nothing we can do to change the odds in our favor now but we can do something for the our future....Vote the Republicans out of office in November. A house and senate has shown they want to help us and they can do that if they are filibuster proof.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Take the trash out in November, vote all of them out, they need to loose their jobs.

  15. I cant believe you can not do a simple vote on a bill that once its passed, obama signs and we could try to be back on track, i am working 24 hrs a week, and my husband as been out of work since 2008, we have moved three times cause we dont know were else to live, no jobs are hiring, the ones who hire, want perfect people that have never had record in their lives, now in days who doesnt have a record, and how the economy is 70 % or more are going to get record for all the crazy things they are going to start doing just because we dont have the help from our country. we need that tier 5 to get pass now, soon this month the most beginning of sept. we need the help i have two small kids (ages 5&2), i cant afford to pay my bills on time, im in the urge to have my water and light shut off just because we dont have the money to pay on time, and they keep giving us late fees so the bills keep getting higher. we need the help now not two months from now, what are they waiting for all the damn elections to keep going they worry about elections and who is going to get what seat and better salary but they dont worry about all the people who are out here stranded with no money and wanting to live for their kids. we cant even go to a normal park that now they are charging for parking fee, and not just a dollar no they are asking for 6.00 for parking, its incredible. all i know if my husband doesnt get that extra help with the tier 5 we are going to have to move again and keep selling the little stuff we have left. i have nothing left to sell.

  16. Yes I want a Tier 5, BUT the likelihood of it happening is as remote as 5 feet of snow covering every inch of the southeastern and southwestern U.S. Why ? Because Our elected officials don't give a dam about the people only Wall Street !
    The unemployed have several choices
    Protest and shut Washington down
    Or
Take elected Officials hostage, but this will most likely get you 20

As far as ending minimum wage, Why not ban excessive CEO/CFO, board member and upper management salary and comp.

  17. Congress on vacation. They never have to worry about being unemployed and no money coming in. Congress long ago voted themselves lifetime pensions after they leave Congress. Even if they serve one term they get paid. Yet they don't think helping unemployed while UI stays same and higher then it has been for 2 years. Nothing done and billions with stimulus/Tarp wasted haven't put a dent in high UI. President on Vacation and not even calling for congress to help 99ers. Congress tells us no money tier 5 will add to deficit. Okay then if that is real issue for holding this up how come all the other billions spent not under same issue? We send billions to other countries and yet no one debates not spending that? Why it adds to deficit? So many other billions spent and wasted with stimulus but Dems say we cannot use that money. It just is not about deficit it is about what congress feels is more important then helping worse off victims of Wallstreet greed. Of congress ineptness and cruelty. Stop the bs about how we pay for tier 5. We spend billions on other things then helping unemployed with no how do we pay. As long as UI rate is so high 99ers will grow by millions. Have some compassion and help us. Math says not enough jobs period. So nothing for next year is going put a dent in UI with way job market will be for years. It's not fault of 99ers there are not enough jobs to hire us all. To even hire over 50% of us. Yet we seem to be blamed for the fact not enough jobs. Like somehow us getting extended checks means we are not creating jobs. In fact us spending those checks does create sales for co's and jobs. Argue over how do we pay for billions we send to other countries and not how we help 99ers. Very simple America first if we have a deficit. Until I see Congress stop sending our billions overseas there is no merit to we don't have the money argument.

  20. One idea if your benefits run out, try a temp service. I also dont think there will be a tier 5 UNTIL the 20 weeks makes it to spring as they wont want it to run out in the middle of the winter. I also believe that if tier 5 is to happen it will have to be the republicans to make it happen because they will win the house and the senate back because as you guys can see, jobs havent been created so its time for some new representatives.

  22. The Election ploy! Let us be the good guys come November ! The problem so many people will have lost so much by the end of November, it will be
too late. The Bill will pass by Oct or the 1st
week in November so they have the Votes!People
memories are short so they won't do it too soon.
I wonder if they realize how much they are adding to the Forclousure and pushing the economy even lower. The unemployment rate will
rise and the rate will be 10% at that time. They
will pass it. Good Luck and I pray everyone votes the current Senate out, come November. The
Tier 5 will be 40 weeks so they get the people
    into jobs by July, 2011
I hope we change the players.
The current players don't care about the people,
just the Votes to keep them in Office.

  27. I think that it truly is a shame that people in power can sit back and read comments, listen to the news, look around them (well maybe not), and see how troubled our economy is. When people who have beyond years of experience can not find a job, what happens to the average person?

I truly don't understand why the president can not stand up and say recess is over this is crucial, people are slowly loosing everything that they have worked hard for. I mean what is the point if you can't say to the members of the house we need to handle this now and not a minute later. I think it is truly sad to learn that people are applying for their social security benefits that are there for their later years, but because of no assistance this is their choice.

I don't know how we will pay for the budget but you know what that is something that we just have to figure out later, because the truth is american people are struggling and it doesn't have to be so hard with just a little help.

Republicans and some Democrats want to say there is no money, well I say stop building all these damn transportation rails, if we have to stick with regular buses for another year, we will be okay, there are ways to make it happen.

All people want is help, why is that so hard to understand. Do you know how it feels to look at your children and explain why they can't have certain things, do you know how it feels to have to call the light or gas company and ask for extensions over and over again. And they have the nerve to ask why you need it, they know why, but it is humilating. And then you go to job interviews, and when all you want to say is I am qualified I need to work, you know your chances are even lower because of all the other people that are giving the same story.

I am sorry congress but this time you have truly shown us that we are not a priority, but if we were you would of been back already. See it is easy when it does not affect you, when you don't have to worry about bills, food, shelter, transportation because we already know you are going to make sure you get yours, well what about us.

    ReplyDelete
  34. This is really simple, either put tier 5 on the agenda now, or push for political pensions to be ended. If no money is available, there is no money available for pensions, all of ours were taken away why are they special, it certainly can't be that they did work worthy of deserving it. They deserve to be voted out and put in the same situation the rest of us are in. If we can get the pensions cut, there well be no more questions as to whether a bill should be passed, because it well affect us all, not just the pawns. If we get the pensions cut it well put billions back into play, are Americans so stupid that they don't realize how many former politicians are making a comfortable living while sitting on their a$$es, doing exactly what they keep trying to say the unemployed are doing, enjoying a free ride the only difference is that it never ends for the politicians , that and the fact they get way more than the crumbs they are offering us. Tell me does this sound familiar, A govt of the people, by the people, for the people. Where in that did we get to a govt of the govt, by the govt, for the govt? Wake up and end their free ride and see how quickly they start listening to what we have to say.

They needed to pass this months ago. They better come up with one good plan to give the peopleback what they took away. Retro better be in this package.

  37. I agree, if these fycking idiots in congress keep saying there's no money for mire extensions, get rid if their lifetime pensions. What makes them so special that they deserve to get an endless amount of checks?

    ReplyDelete
  38. My fellow unemployed friends, you folks need to realize a few things. To begin with all this talk about voting out the Republicans in November obviously won't happen cause why didn't we start voting them down in the primaries recently? Also the proposed tier 5 extension is not even on the agenda even though these article writers keep giving false hope. And if and when they do decide to vote on another extension don't look for it to happen anytime soon, the drug-ass since before Memorial Day on the current extension remember. And the bullshit people are posting saying the Republicans won't vote against it this time around being so close to election time holds no water. Study up on your Politics before saying stupid shit like this cause not all of them are even running again and some of their terms aren't even up for re-election yet. And who-ever keeps posting about doing away with minimum wage, are you crazy or do you want our wages down to shit, your theory is not for me, you must be Mexican illegal or something. Bottom line we are screwed and probably the only way to get something done is for a few of us to go Balistic sorry to say.

  41. We need help now. I am 58 and the interview I went on today the interviewer was about 19 or 20 and they had gaul to say that their business has alot of younger people working there and how did I think I would fit in. Of course once again they said that they are still interviewing and if I get the job they will call me. Give me a break! I will never get a job as I am viewed as too old now and of course over qualified. So I am officially at end of my food and just paid my last mtg payment and can pay nothing else. I do not even have a dollar to get anything we may need. My husband doesn't make enough to pay it alone and we are not POOR enough to get any other assistance. Our government is really forcing good hard working people to fail and lose everything while they have been out vacationing. Even our President is out of touch with the average person as he hasn't even tried to help us. If they want their party to win then be the one to vote for this now and we will all see to it that they are re-elected. Its that easy.

  56. Other great "disasters" that have happened to our country (Pearl Harbor leading to WWII, the Great Depression, even 9/11) were openly addressed and dealt with by a nation united. Our country and our people were affected and our country and people pulled together under leadership to get through it. NOT SO this great disaster, the loss of millions of jobs and millions of household incomes by millions of Americans. HOW STRANGE IS THAT? It's not covered by the media-it's like it isn't happening at all! WE all know it is happening and it is a national disaster. The very fact that it is being hidden from the media public and ignored by our leadership says something. What I'm not exactly sure, but it almost seems like it is deliberate. The actual truth is hidden and even those of us going through all of this aren't sure how many of us there are and how bad it really is. How many of us are now homeless? How many have committed suicide? How many are over age 50? How many of us have turned to crime to survive? The feelings of powerless felt by us 99ers (and any unemployed) are magnified by the lack of information in the public arena. It's almost like if we are made silent by being ignored we may hopefully "go away". This whole situation is abusive, despicable, inhumane, horrific, and yet it goes on and on. My biggest disappointment is in our elected President who seemed to be made of better "stuff" than the past one. He is no different and in fact is worse in that he knows we are out here and does nothing but go on another vacation himself. If our President doesn't not care then what kind of hope do any of us have at this point? Not much.

Elected officals are not working for the people, they work for Lobbyist who bribe them for passage of laws for the companies they represent.
The 174,000.00 yearly salary plus perks that you people talk about Senators making is Chump Change compared to the legalized bribery they take in from "Lobbyist". So whos interest do you think they have in mind? Us tax-payers or their Big Money corrupted buddies they get paid off from to pass laws their way. It sure aint Rocket Science but yet you folks focus so much attention to thinking you will make a difference by voting. The corrupted Politics will never change until this Lobbying crap is Out-Lawed.
They also control all the News Media so we will not see nothing but little Bits of coverage here and there on this Crisis UNLESS enough of us Create enough Havoc whether it be rioting or whatever. Not to OFFEND anyone but you see how fast the media covers an Un-happy jury Verdict in California. The Black Folks just don't talk shit on an internet blog-site, they Unite and take their Anger to the street and The News Media is on that like Stink on Shit.

  61. I was one of the fortunate ones. If you call fortunate getting a new job that pays 1/4 of what I used to make. I am still thankful. After sending out over 1,000 resumes and moving 625 miles away, having my home foreclosed, selling everything I could I guess this is the only American Dream that is left. A tier 5 would have helped. I was only out for 4 weeks and feel fortunate that I'm only a month behind on my bills. I'm sad for those that are looking for work. There are very few good jobs out there. God Bless You.

  63. I have been out of work since April of 2008. I have done things here and there trying to scrape up what I can. I am 49 years old an experience Marketing Rep with a college education. No one wants to touch me. I have tried to pry my way into interviews but have received many rejections with plenty excuses.
I have lost a car, a house, evicted from another, and now currently live with my wife (who is also laid off) at a friends while our twin daughters lived with my cousin.
The situation is not looking good as many of my fellow friends and ex-fellow working friends are out of work in the same siuation.
The reality of what is happening is real!! I have tried to get part time work through agencies but once they interview me they realize that I am an experinces worker with an education that they don't want to deal with.
The government knows how bad our situation is but they have a Ostrich approach to our problems!
My Faith in God is the only true help I have right now!

  64. I agree that Congress would much rather have us silently complaining on a web site than channeling our energy into a more effective approach such as taking it to the streets. While we may need these sites to vent from time to time, they are not effective in getting the attention or help that we (99ers) need.

Congress wants us to stay behind the scenes like this. We have to merge out into the open and create havoc!!!! We must be heard, loud and clear that the corruption in Washington DC will no longer be tolerated.

We as Americans have the right and an obligation to change these common/corrupt practices of the Republicans in the Senate. We must do it now for the future of our children, and their chidren, etc.

Let's get started and do something now!!!!!!!!!!

  65. 99er Dude,

"Detroit -- The chants of thousands of people demanding jobs filled the air downtown as UAW President Bob King and the Rev. Jesse Jackson led the crowd to Grand Circus Park."

  66. If an asshole like Glenn Beck can get a rally in DC and media attention, why the hell can't we?

  67. to those that are still unemployed please keep filing, should you stop will only bring your states numbers down. Which means come election your good ole boys can claim just how effective they are in this matter which again will be a big fat lie. ANd in the meantime keep contacting your local representatives and let your voice be heard before you place you ballot for a house that has failed you. Want to be real effective boycott these large companies that have shipped jobs over seas.

  71. Support for Israel comes to $1.8 trillion, including special trade advantages, preferential contracts, or aid buried in other accounts. In addition to the financial outlay, U.S. aid to Israel costs some 275,000 American jobs each year." The trade-aid imbalance alone with Israel of between $6-10 billion costs about 125,000 American jobs every year.MOTHER FUCKERS ,THEY GIVE OUR MONEY TO ISRAEL WHILE WE ARE HOMELESS AND HUNGRY !!! I am not proud of being an American anymore !

  72. I am not personally counting on the tier 5 extension. My family can not wit for the elected officials to figure it out I have reconciled that I have to get two or more minimum wage jobs, but at least it will be work. It does suck to work for sixteen years only to lose your job and be stuck with no replacement. It's a miracle I still live in the same house that I did when I got laid off. Many states have social services to help save your house and pay your power and water bill. With enough research and perseverance you can find and get these resources. I am very proud of the work history I have and was ashamed to go to public aid but when it comes to the welfare of my family pride should be swallowed. My prayers go out to those who have exhausted their 99 weeks as this is the point I am at in the next few weeks. I have finished my associates while laid-off and plan to continue to go to school to make myself more marketable. Actually school grants and student loans also helped to keep us afloat. God bless us and God be with us.

  73. Im a pissed of american that have been working for the past 20 yrs. Republicans got nerve to try not to give us these packages that we need to live. Meanwhile if it wasnt for us democrates to work for them bastards they wouldnt be living the life style that they live now. They pay less to keep more money for themselves fuck them. They tell you to go back to school or go to a career link facility and they will help you. Dont them bastards know that career link is filled and they wont help you even if you do go back to school. Im going thru it now and they cant help me they also had nerve to sit there and tell me as a full-time student i need to find a job on my own meanwhile when you go to a job interview there are more than 15,000 people applyin for 1 position. There is going to be a war soon if this economy keeps going down the way it is....
