An Unemployment Extension for Tier 5 Absent from September 13 Senate Agenda

An unemployment extension for Tier 5 desires is absent from the Senate's September 13 agenda. A Tier 5 unemployment extension is needed by those who want nothing more than some help from the government. It's not too much to ask; these individuals have been diligently searching for jobs, with no income coming in.

If the US can give out money to foreign governments and entities, then why not dole out some money to the citizens in need? Some say that a Tier 5 extension would benefit the economy greatly by giving American families disposable income. It also keeps families out of foreclosure and could even keep some families from using social benefits such as food stamps.

On the other hand, there are many who say that giving out money to the unemployed for longer than the current 99 weeks would give people an incentive to NOT work, possibly by turning down job opportunities that pay less than they want, in hopes of scoring the "job of their dreams" before their benefits run out. The result of this game of roulette is that many people end up jobless at the exhaustion of their benefits, and still need work.

The Tier 5 benefit extension is important to Americans, but it's not looking like it is important to those on Capital Hill. Currently, the docket includes "morning business" followed by considering the nomination of Jane Stranch to US Circuit Court Judge.

  1. Over 200 applications sent out and and our elected officials say us 99r's are lazy. Was wall street and the auto industry lazy. The incentive for working is having a job to go every day. I live in San Diego were the unemployment is 10.6%.
that's 165,000 people out of work and fighting for any job they may qualify for. Our Government can bailout everyone but not help the people who need it most. I can't wait until November.

I pray for all of us,

    Daniel

  4. If they do not do something there will certainly be a surprise at the ballot box in November. Politicians will see just how bad unemployment is and what the real numbers are . Anyone who blocks unemployment tier 5 will be in a world of trouble in november

I rec'd a reply that said "we rec'd a lot of applications and there were several candidates with better qualifications than you"
How will we ever get back in the job market?

  7. Attention sniveling welfare collectors!!!

You are lazy deadbeats who have made your own problems. You bought homes you could not afford, cars you could not afford, and had children that you cannot afford.

Hearing you whine about getting free money disgusts me.

To Charles. You pathetic little grub. Recognize that Bush and his Republican whore's put us in this mess from the beginning. You are a sad excuse of human waste posting from website to website for people to see how ignorant and stupid Republicans are. You are a total low life for coming on to this website to talk crap about something I am sure you know nothing of. You are a coward! You are no diffrent than these politicians who go on tv shows and hit on eachother with a fake smile on there face...If I knew who you were and I speak for all the 99ers, we'd put you out of your misery. What really counts is the day you die, you will ask god for forgiveness for your sad little life as scum, but i doubt he will be as merciful to a pig.

  9. To Charles- Thats a bunch of crap. I was making 6 figures- bought a normal middle class house I could easily afford, a 4 used runner for cash , got one son through a 4 yr college and the youngest son through high school. Had a 401 K, savings and paid on time for all my credit cards with low balances. Once I lost my job through no fault of my own and am now called a 99'er stupid people like you say Im lazy or over extended. BTW I never collected 99 weeks because thats a big lie to !

  23. When the “unemployed” realize that they must start taking care of themselves and that the corrupt government does not care to keep them alive other than to buy their votes is the day they will start to take their lives back. Jobs are not magically created (especially by a government dictator, example: Cuba). Sadly most of the “unemployed” see potential employers as the enemy and have the “cut off the heads of the capitalists” attitude. Lack and suffering always follow the entitlement mindset. These are harsh words to some but will in the long run be seen as much kinder than a handout. As a wise person once said; “those who do not know history are condemned to repeat it”.

  26. The best and most noticeable way to let our voices be heard will be at the ballot boxes in November and again in 2012. It utterly amazes me how we can always come up with $$ to help the world police itself, feed itself, maintain itself. However, when we the citizens of this once great nation need some assistance, all of a sudden the well is dry. I don't want to see the country go bankrupt helping us or anyone else. It would be great if we could somehow figure a way to stop all the waste and corruption that seems so prevalent nowadays. I mean, $1 million dollars of stimulus money to build a squirrel bridge across a road???? COME ON! And that's just a single example of the stupidity that is apparently condoned in DC these days. And it's not just the Republicans or just the Democrats to hold accountable... they all have had their hand in the cookie jar of late. Its time for us as Americans to get control and order back into Washington. Our founding fathers must be rolling over in their graves with the way things are going now.

If your benefits ran out, go get a job. When my benefits expired, I got a job. Granted it's minimum wage.

Yes, you may lose your home, car and most of your possessions. Deal with it just like I did.

I know several people who refuse to work because they won't be making what they used to. I suspect that's most of you complaining.

The Government owes you nothing. Most of you have it wrong, your employer pays your unemployment taxes, not you the employee.

  39. And what about those of us who DIDN'T have six-figure incomes and lost our jobs? I am college-educated (guess who still has work? Student loan collectors) and capable but have been working most of my life in food service. Now when I go to apply for work, I have to compete with all the folks who looked down on me for doing what I did for a living. The problems isn't that I think low-paying work is beneath me. The problem is that there isn't even much low-paying work left either.
I have kept my son and I bouncing just above the poverty line by hard work, and now I am about to lose the almost nothing we have been getting by on. After a lifetime of choosing to go without rather than be a drain on government resources, now that I need to rely on some help to get through, I am told I am lazy and shiftless and don't deserve the same lifeline as we would immediately extend to third-world working poor?

  41. Asking Obama to do something is just wasting your breath. He didn't speak about the last unemployment extension only until Carte Goodwin of W.Va was named to replace Byrd and the vote was guaranteed. He got on his soap box in the rose garden with a few unemployed and bashed the republicans. Sorry, but with the nuclear option and reconcilliation and the dems controlling both houses, there is NO reason that this has not passed yet. This is just a way for the dems to get re-elected. If the reps take the house and senate this year, there is still the lame duck session that the dems could use to push this through, but they won't because then it will be retribution for us not keeping them in. As far as that idiot "Charles the troll", don't let him get to you. And as far as only voting rep or dem this year, wouldn't it be nice if there was a "None of the above" box like in Brewsters Millions.

  44. I do not understand why wasn’t the tier five unemployment extension bill included with the unemployment extension bill that was just passed in July. Why Congress only extend the unemployment bill, but not for the people that may have become permanently unemployed whom needs it worst? People that really needed the extension are now included in the new homeless population, with no money, no food and everything I have work for is gone with the snap of a finger. I am renter so my time is up for me living my apartment, my benefit ended in May. I been stressed about the unemployment extension bill and to find out you were not included in the unemployment bill unbelievable. The senate, congress does not care about the American people that put them into office and pay their salary until the day they die. The Senate already has their schedule as to what they are going to do when they come back in September. they will be focus on a bill to promote small businesses, a child nutrition bill, a tax-credit bill for companies and possibly a vote on the Bush-era tax cuts or the START arms treaty between the United States and Russia, And the 99’er are nowhere on that schedule. I don’t understand when the senate was called back to congress for a vote on the teacher’s job bill, tier 5 unemployment extension bill should have been included in that. However, it wasn’t so is this a message to the American people we do as we please, we only want your vote to what we want, and we will tell you what you want to hear to just to get your vote. However, there is no urgency committed to the 99ers in passing the Tier 5 unemployment extension bill.

Remember, without money people start getting very desperate so hold on to your wallet real tight "money bags" because maybe you might become a mugging victim of one of these unemployed, hardup, penniless individuals who don't know what else to do or where to turn... have you ever thought of that? the crime that come's with people who get so desperate they are left with no other choice but finding ways to survive and sometimes resulting in violent crimes. President Obama needs to realize what is going on and how people are getting desperate. He needs to make this one of the priority's and help people who have no resources. We did not cause this dysfunctional economy and we should not be punished for it!!! 53. Why is this Proposed Bill ( Tier V Extension of Benefits for the 99 ers) not on the agenda when Congress comes back to work (?) on September 13, 2010 ??
Simply put--our Senators are nothing but ASS HOLES.
How many Billions -- if not Trillions --of dollars have been wasted by our "protectors" in Washington??
All they do is constantly piss away dollars to other countries or better yet---remark as to how "proud" they are to document/qualify the the $$$ magnitude of the fraud imposed on Medicare/Medicaid ( presently at approx. $ 50 Billion per year). Better yet, they have quantified the $$$$$ drain on the U S Treasury caused by electronic filing of bogus Tax returns--yet they still EFT the $$$'s to the illegal filer.
The money (if any) that is given to us will be automatically re circulated into the economy when we pay our mortgage/rent/utilities/groceries--etc.
So, what's the freaking problem in aiding the taxpayers ( when they were employed---they paid your salary thru their taxes) ?

A sky rocketing crime rate will get this bill moving, I guarantee it. Its time for action. You all can sit around with your hand out till you starve to death. Im going to go get mine! You just wait for the people who got you in your situation to help you get back on your feet. IT ISNT GOING TO HAPPEN! Turn on the news, no mention of the 99ers. Check your computer, same old story you read yesterday. No help is coming. Obama will do nothing until the day before Tier 5 is already going to pass. Then he will urge congress to pass a bill that was already done and take full credit for it. Good luck to you all and be aware of anyone dressed in all black at night. It might be me and I have nothing left to loose and my kids will NOT go hungry.

The leaders around the globe want a single currency for the world, and the only way they can achieve this is to collapse the world economy.

  60. On the other hand, there are many who say that giving out money to the unemployed for longer than the current 99 weeks would give people an incentive to NOT work, possibly by turning down job opportunities that pay less than they want,

This is being said by people who failed math. Assume everyone goes out and does everything to fine a job. Willing to take any job. Well math is for every one looking there is 1 job for every 5 looking. So if congress can do math that leaves 4 not getting a job. Yet they think it is UI extensions that make us not take jobs? Enough with this bs there are not enough jobs to prevent continuing increases in UI levels. It been 2 years since crash of 08 started this. Yet again they ignore math. 2 years folks that is why this summer 99ers are growing.

As far as nonsensical comments by inbreds like "charles" ignore them. he obviously isnt in tune with whats really going on and was most likely spoon fed everything he has by daddy and mommy his whole hopefully soon to come to an end miserable life. Interview after interview and no call backs EVER, they call us lazy but if i was lazy i would of collected welfare all those years i worked my ass off, there is nothing great about receiving half of what you used to make and then on top of it it suddenly stops and thats pretty much it. I refuse to collapse and will do whatever i have to to survive, if it means taking from the rich when theyre headed to their corvette after doing nothing all day but fart in a leather chair, then so be it, i came from nothing and built myself up into what i am today, but if you try to reduce me back to nothing i will show you how a poor person lives lavishly at the expense of you thieves in politics. I know my targets :)

I feel for you. I know how hard it must be trying to provide for your family and to stay afloat without any money coming in. Hang in there. With job claims increasing weekly, they will have to take action when they return from recess, or there will be a double dip recession in the works. I know how frustrating this must be for you, but please, going out and stealing from innocent people who could be in worse shape than you won't help the cause. It would only be a short fix and make you, who I'm sure is a decent human being, feel like crap later. Hang in there. G-d bless.

A garrison of carrion spirits, garrisons of the loathsome, carrion birds. All nations of the earth drank the wild wine of her sluttish ways; kings of the earth went whoring with her; entrepreneurs made millions exploiting her. Her sins stink like a pile of dung to high Heaven; God has remembered every evil she's done. You Babylonians had a good time while it lasted, didn't you? You lived it up, exploiting and using my people, Frisky calves romping in lush pastures, wild stallions out having a good time! Well, your mother Britain would hardly be proud of you. The woman who bore you wouldn't be pleased. Look at what's come of you! The Last Great Nation! Rubble and garbage and weeds!

You said, 'I'm the First Lady. I'll always be the pampered darling.' You took nothing seriously, took nothing to heart, never gave tomorrow a thought. Well, start thinking, playgirl. You're acting like the center of the universe, Smugly saying to yourself, 'I'm Number One. There's nobody but me. I'll never be a widow, I'll never lose my children.

Do the people like Charles above and politicians not realize that our taxes paid for these bailouts. It is totally repulsive to me that we are being screwed over by corporations and our own government. Can the people that are running either not see that by doing people wrong they are hurting themselves? I would like to know who will buy their products, pay their salaries, and keep the government running when they have sufficiently bled us dry. Charles I challenge you and others of your ilk to explain to the people in America how any of this makes since.

Im very frustrated like everyone up here and i said those things because yes, i will target them i never said innocent people, but then again who is actually innocent anymore. This world is full of hate envy and greed, if a comet hit us tomorrow or the earth was swallowed into a black hole it would be better off. No one will every be happy and if they are its usually temporary. Think about were only here communicating because we are in need and our leaders basically turned their back on us towards the end of an already hard time in our life and now its only going to get worse.I'm paid off on all my bills for august and then thats it. I wont eat and i can survive off bagels and hot dogs, but as far as my rent and utilities go im screwed. Again i was blown off and not called back from an interview monday and one i had thurs said they would call me sometime this week. Thats 8 interviews this month with not ONE call back. I'm highly qualified for my profession and have 12 years experience and all my interviews go really well. I even offer to work for 8 dollars less an hour! and they still act like im nothing. I was going to tap into my social security but realized im 34 years away from being eligibile. My savings is gone, i have no gas in my tank. How do you think it makes me feel as an american when immigrants are let into our country with free everything because long term, their presence will benefit the government because they will work for nothing. Why do countries hate us? Because we hate us. I wrote the president, my govenors and senators in CT and not even an auto reply. I feel for you people that have families to support, i on the other hand am alone and still am struggling so i can only imagine what you people thats been off benefits for months are going through. So make sure you have a haiti fund link on your websites to make it look like your for human nature but continue ignoring and avoiding the millions suffering over your mistakes not mine.

MY MONEY that I paid into the system for over 20 years that I never collected unemployment or any government assistance on, is what I am entitled to. I went from making $62,000 a year ($1200 a week) to $480 a week. So tell me those of you who have children to support, what if you and your spouse were out of work, had 2 children and are renting an apartment because you cannot afford a house...how would you make it on $480 a week in the State of NJ, which is one of the most EXPENSIVE states in the Country! I cannot afford to make $8 an hour and pay for my small apartment plus household bills, food, diapers and daycare expenses on $8 an hour! So dont tell us that are out of work that we are lazy and mooching off of you! I hope that one day you lose your job and cannot find another one after 100s of applications, no calls, no emails, no interviews, so that you and your ignorance can see what is really going on in this country outside of your comfortable BS bubble!

Some of you have the notion that you can solve problems by throwing one politician and/or president out and put another in. You wont solve this crisis this way. Neither Obama or any other politician in Washington is running the game here. The global elite are the people collapsing the system on purpose to create their one wrold facist economic system. Their agenda is to destroy middle class america. This is a rich mans world where only the millionaires and billionaires can play. We can never play in their billion dollar playground because we aren't one of them, and they aren't one of us and because of that, they could care less about anyone below the rich man.

If you think its bad now, you aint seen nothing yet. It will get much much worse. Just wait to when all of our taxes go up beginning Jan 1, 2011; and let me tell you, this tax hike is designed to cripple every working middle class citizen.

For those of you that know nothing about Agenda 21 of the global elite, you had better wake up and get a clue. Obama aint the problem folks, he is just a puppet.

  85. It's absurd to hear some of the reasonings Republicans are against passing a tier 5. They stereotype all the unemployed as ppl that are look n for handouts and, as long as we r receiving such benefits we will not look for work. Of course, i could go on & on....but, some of their comments are not worth dignifying with a response. First of all, it's not just the middle class and poor that are unemployed....Republicans have lost their jobs and way of life too! So, to those that are blocking it's passage i say this to you...i've been a proud, hard working, law abiding, independent american / citizen all of my life and u have the audacity to group (stereotype) all the unemployed as being lazy, not seeking work, looking for handouts is very degrading. 99ers have lost their way of life, their livelihood and, now u want to take the only thing we have left our pride, humility & dignity and, force us to get down on bended knee and beg u to pass a tier 5.....how u have not been able to see the urgency of passing this bill is mind bottling....yes, i'm writing alot bcuz, i have alot to say.....but, i will close by say n this....plz do not continue to insult the 99ers intelligence by say n we r not look n for work bcuz, we r content with receiving unemployment benefits. "99ers, are not living off of unemployment benefits......we are EXISTING!!!" There's a difference!!! Unemployment is a way of life, survival for ppl...most are already so far in debt anyway unemployment is not considered a bailout of sorts....u can't catch up on ur mortgage, car notes, credit card payments, etc...it's all about survival now....just being able to continue to keep food on the table....that's all we have left.... the day we 99ers lost our jobs was the very day we lost our way of life.....our EVERYTHING!!! You continue to take vacations and, ur now on an extended month long vacation while we continue to suffer, worry & wonder when and if the bill will pass speaks volumes.....and, we the 99ers will speak volumes also with our vote in November..."We are 99ers Fedup...We are 99ers United!!!"

    ReplyDelete
  86. The beginning of this article says it all! Handing out money to foreign countries but screw their own citizens. Anyone who has the nerve to complain about extended benefits is no better than our government! I do work and I feel lucky to have my job, but there are many people out here that need the benefits! Give it to them, OR THE GOVERNMENT needs to start creating jobs! I'd rather pay for unemployment benefits with my tax dollars than welfare!

    ReplyDelete
  87. Neither Republicans (protect the "rich") nor Democrats (protect the "poor")will do anything to help us 99ers. We desperately need a viable third party that understands how the middle class is being destroyed.

  89. Look guys…..It’s over for us.
If you think help is coming, it’s not!!!!
Whatever you have lost or about to lose, you
won’t save it or regain it back.

The sooner you deal with the homelessness, pennilessness and despair, the better. This is how it is….
You are abandoned and forgotten by our government
who got us all into this mess in the first place and left to fend for yourselves any way you can. Might as well get use to it.
Even if the economy was on the road to recovery (which it isn’t), it would take years.

3-5 million have already lost their benefits and are either homeless or will be—like me with a college degree.
Things will only get worse now that lost unemployment benefits will not put money into the economy either.
Expect more slow downs, layoffs, and even less job opportunities with hundreds more applicants per job.

The order of today is survival, not living. Think
about how you can survive on the streets. Don’t
wait for the shock of finding yourself there this
afternoon or tomorrow morning. Accept and Plan now…

We are invisible subculture that wants to be forgotten and swept under the rug.

Be careful, if they pass a Tier 5 and you collect, you could be decreased or delayed in your Social Security benefits.

  90. Americans in need of additional UI extension benefits are not happy about it or the state of the economy. If we never worked (contributed) or were not willing to work, we would not have been elligable for assistance in the first place. Help the 99'ers NOW, before we join the ranks of the overlooked homeless in this great country. Great at the top.
