Could US Issue Travel Alert for Europe?

Could US issue a travel alert for Europe? It seems hard to believe, doesn't it? After all, Europe is a constant source of great travel for US citizens. To think that Europe could be dangerous is almost as asinine as thinking that Canada wouldn't be a safe place for Americans.

However, the Associated Press is reporting that a travel alert for European travel may be issued for US citizens. An anonymous source from the state department has said:

We have been and continue to be focused on al Qaeda's interest in attacking us, our allies, and U.S. interests abroad. We will spare no effort to thwart terrorist plans and will take further actions as appropriate,

The problem isn't Europe, the problem is that there is intel that Al-Quaeda may be staging attacks on Americans on European soil.

The war on terror, which started really hitting us hard on 9/11, is far from over. Do you plan to alter your vacation plans if a travel advisory is issued for European travel?

  1. doesn't all this attention that's being paid to terrorists make them successful at their goal, which is to generally disrupt societies around the world?

It's kind of hard to ignore it when innocent civilians (family, friends, neighbors) are dead.
