Unemployment extension? What unemployment extension? That's the problem we face right now. The Senate has already left to go home and campaign for the mid-term elections, and the 99ers are left without a hope for a tier 5. What's worse is that the benefits extension that was passed back in July after millions of Americans went months without benefits will expire again on November 30.If the Republican party gets seats in the House and Senate as expected this November, chances for a Tier 5 extension are all but gone. The conservative party has been increasingly critical of the Democrats for their stimulus plans and "pay as you go" bills. If a tier 5 extension bill comes to Congress which has a clear cut and agreeable way for funding, it would likely get passed. However, no one wants to pay for the unemployment extension.
Ask any American and they'd tell you that they'd rather send their tax dollars to fellow Americans than overseas. Why are we giving aid to Pakistani flood victims when Pakistan harbors terrorists from time to time? What's wrong with that picture?
Hopefully the American 99ers Union and the hundreds of other liberal organizations gathering in DC today will be able make headway for the unemployment extension. A tier 5 is needed, and from what I see there aren't many politicians who seem to care.

ReplyDeletekeep in mind the reason they have not brought tier v up for a vote is beacause they don't have the 60 votes needed for it. they tried it twice last June and July and the GOP blocked when they took tier v out 2 GOP senators from Maine voted for tiers 1-iv in July. that is why Harry Reid has delayed it. People who want all the extensions to pass must vote for all Dems in the House and the Senate in order for this to pass its the only way. Those of us who are highly educated and are willing to take any work are being turned away from fast food chains, department stores, and gift shops because there are so many unemployed that it is a hirer's market. I am overqualified, willing to take any job, and no one will hire me to do anything. We are invisible. We do not count as employed and we do not count as unemployed as we have passed the 99 week mark. There are 3 people alive today because I was there when they were younger and nearly died. I have also taught Middle School. I have several degrees.
ReplyDeleteI have not eaten in two days. I am destitute and about to be homeless. My dog and I will be living in my car just as winter comes. I have been working 7 days a week trying to find a job. There are no jobs to be had. The suicide rate and the burglary and armed robbery rates have all gone up. The economy will never recover if we keep throwing money at the upper levels (bailing out the banks, etc...) and not supporting the lower levels. If you put a roof on a building with no walls it will have no support and fall straight down. Why are we sending money to Greece and building schools in other countries when we need to help our own first? Nowhere in the Declaration of Independence or in The Constitution does it say we must save the world? It does say that that the people of this country have an obligation to change the government if it is not working. The last administration overspent and took us from a surplus to a more than gigantic deficit. Things became so bad that they cannot be repaired in one year. In another 24 months things will begin to turn around. However we MUST take care of the unemployed NOW! I am terrified of being homeless. I can live with only eating every three days or so but I don't want to live in my car. I am qualified for many varied occupations. I do not qualify for any aid. I was told by the state of New Jersey that even though I have ZERO income and I have sold anything of value I used to own, used my entire savings, I am not in jeopardy of becoming homeless so therefore I do not qualify for any homeless prevention aid. When this country was founded it was founded with specific principles in mind. We have long lost sight of those principles. We need to help our own, who through no fault of tier own have found themselves out of work, out of unemployment, and homeless or very close to it. We pay the salaries of Congress. Congress needs to remember why they are where they are and just who put them there! They have warm houses to go to at night and they can sleep because they do not have to worry if they will have a place to sleep the next night. They do not worry about whether or not they can eat or not. To those in Congress who hold our lives in their hands - please pay attention to what we are saying because we are pleading for help to stay alive. TO YOU THIS IS JUST ANOTHER VOTE - TO US THIS IS LIFE OR DEATH ON A VERY LITERAL LEVEL. WITHOUT A TIER FIVE I WILL DIE. IT IS THAT SIMPLE. THERE ARE MILLIONS OF US IN THE SAME POSITION AND YOU CAN SAVE OUR LIVES. SO ALL OF YOUR BICKERING IN THE FINANCE COMMITTEE AND IN THE SENATE AND IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES JUST INSURES THAT MORE PEOPLE DIE WHILE YOU ARGUE RHETORIC. I suggest that anyone who cannot find a regular job turn to self-employment. There are still plenty of people with money who will hire for odd jobs. At least you can separate yourselves from this 99er culture that is not headed anywhere other than incarceration. People who have loss too much have a difficult time getting back to where they were before without the State doing something for them. Declining health is a big problem because of the stress the government put on us. If it is Tier 5, then that is what is needed. They keep taking and taking from us and hang us out to dry, it is there job to do what is right to help. How can we be lazy if we were successful. Successful people don't back down or give up, they make headway. If we fight for our rights, then we are Americans. People shouldn't speak for everyone if they get a job because how long will you have it. Soon the entire country will be owned by other countries if they continue to take money, Chamber of Commerce, to control our politics. Who wants to be owned by China and Russia. Better think hard before voting Republican.
