[CA] Prop 19 Results [POLL]

Prop 19 results, California's hottest poll, failed. Proposition 19 called for the legalization of marijuana in the state of California, expanding the current legislation from just medicinal purposes to everyone over the age of 21.

The Field poll leading up to the election pegged Prop 19 as a failure, and indeed it did fail. Maybe all of California's potheads forgot to register to vote, or thought that they could telepathically get their votes in to the polls. Who knows. All I know is I can envision a bunch of people with "anxiety disorders" sitting around, partaking in "herbal therapy" watching TV and saying..."Dude, Prop 19 didn't pass...uh...dude, did you vote?"

All that being said, there are some improvements that could be made on prop 19. For instance, they could put the taxation discretion in the hands of the state and not municipalities. In addition, there should be some workout with the Federal Government to ensure that small business owners who own "legal" pot dispensaries in the state won't fall under the increased scrutiny of the federal government.

What do you think about the prop 19 results & poll?

  1. The law should of past. How do they not understand that they can tax the crap out of it and people would still by it. And I think it would minimize the violence on the border there would be no need too smuggle it.

  3. yo dude prop 19 is bad for my business, and think about it, once big tobacco gets their hands on it people will be being bud chemically treated with filters and shit on it.

  4. Well I do not smoke nor would I even if it had passed. I still think It should have passed. The money saved on the war on weed crime, taxes from it, tourism factor of it being legal, jobs it would open, and many more advantages. It is safer than alcohol and less deadly than cigarettes. To those that voted against it your bad! I do agree should have had more stipulations on the prop!

  5. I think all the people in california who DO smoke and DIDNT vote are simply irresponsible. also anyone who believes all smokers are stupid are horribly unaware of the people who smoke and function everyday including at work. I am one of these people. Today is a sad day for all smokers in America we get to look forward to another 2 years of persecution from the police, heavy prison sentences, more dirt weed from mexico and high prices for the shitty mexi brick. Way to go America!

  6. marijuana will always be illegal in America because in our founding, we wrote the declaration on hemp paper to spite the king for making Virginians grow hemp for all of the UK when they could make better profit from tobacco.

  7. I have smoked marijuana 2 times, and it for sure helped me with my anxiety. Not everyone that smokes marijuana is a pot-head. With that being said, the government should ban alcohol with marijuana. Does alcohol have any good benefits? NO.
Alcohol kills people and marijuana is an herbal non violent "drug".
I was very disappointed with the poll results, and I actually watched and voted. Not just sat around and said, "Oh..man...it didn't pass...".
Anyone that is DEAD AGAINST marijuana has a problem with people that want to do what makes them feel better. The people that are DEAD AGAINST marijuana also have a problem with themselves, and sounds like they are insecure and don't want people to feel better than them.

Also... does the government realize that this prop could have saved many lives?
Marijuana is one of the most imported substance in the USA. Like the last person that commented on this article said, the government could have taxed the SHIT out of the substance.

I am done ranting over this, and I hope another state will not make the same mistake that Cali did with this prop....

    Peace.

  8. The person who wrote this is obviously biased. It should have been legalized purely for the fact that marijuana prohibition is so incredibly cost ineffective. It wastes government money. Throw that surplus money into the budget and add all of the tax revenue that it would create and the government debt would DRASTICALLY decrease. That coupled with it being non violent and having medical uses (which are not recognized legally by it being a Schedual I "drug") demonstrates how stupid and ineffective the government can be (with emphasis on can). There should at least be a movement to remove it from the Schedual I profile and allow medical research at a minimum.

  9. I believe that part of the problem may be that significant numbers of Californians have a vested interest in maintaining high prices for cannabis. Many of the specious arguments against legalization- that the drug cartels wouldn't walk away, or would grow in America- fall apart if the price plummets. But CA growers under Prop 215 stand to lose also, as do all those involved in pot distribution. Distributors include a substantial number of users who distribute small amounts-analogous to the last mile in networking infrastructure- to smoke for a discount. It's all about money, honey!

  10. The person who wrote about pot never being legalized because of the hemp incident in early American history is so wrong its pathetic. It wasn't banned because the king made them grow it dumb ass.

  11. ummm. i am assuming that idiot that wrote this has never smoked. cause uhh dude. we all dont talk like that. i am a pot smoker and will be to the day i die. sure let people drink and drive but you wont let us smoke marijuana. it will pass soon. dont worry. its only a matter of time until it does and when i does all you losers will be living off of weed tax.

  12. I'm not suprised that the proposition failed, I have come to the conclusion long ago that no matter what people will be irrational. Joke's can be made about pot heads and their lazy antics but I believe who we should actually laugh at are the conservative voter's who voted no to something that is universally beneficial. I won't list the benefits of the prop as they have already been said, what I wonder is what peoples reasoning was to vote no. Compared to cigarettes in the quantities marijuana is smoked it is far less harmful and the effects are far less dangerous than alcohol.
Voting is the second step, thinking is the first.

  13. It is all the fault of the baby boomers. The group of old folk who who outlawed it in the first place and they just had to show up at the polls again. Grumpy bastards.

  14. It is a dismay the Proposition failed, but at least it was there to vote on. I live in Tx and I am in favor of the legalization of marijuana for those with medical conditions as well as recreational use. The Economy would Thrive!! In so many municipalities. There would be a wave of Tourism several times a year to experience Tx. There could be new storefronts which would fill the new empty retail spaces left to be abandonded because of the crash of the economy. farmers can now add to the list of crops they can grow. American farms and farmers are some of the most dedicated farmers in the world. This cultivation by the USA american farms could deter the use and sell of "gang weed" that has spilt into the states for years now....... There are countless benefits. Those who misuse this "herb" get caught all the time and marijuana is illegal by state law and federal law. I personally do not see there being a spike in crime at least not anymore than there already is. The positive attributes of marijuana continue.....

  15. wow. whoever whote this fucking story is fucking ignorant as hell. people who dont even smoke were still for prop 19. reading this shit pisses the shit out of me

  16. The silver lining in this is that the war on drugs did more to discredit government than Watergate, endless lobbying scandals, personal scandals, and the unbelievably pompous current president- who just got his comeuppance in the House. We can't expect much of the baby boomers- they were junk as hippies and remain self-absorbed and inflexible as adults. They will really shine as retirees. Once we have scattered their ashes, perhaps we shall stop subjecting pedophiles, rapists, murderers, thieves, and Madoffs to cohabiting with potheads.

  17. hahaha you are all stupid. its government. it takes away all things that are fun and cool. Give it 10-20 years when all these old dumb people die off and the young generation comes up. it will be legalized.

    ReplyDelete
  18. FYI to the misinformed. The Constitution, Declaration of Independence, and Bill of Rights were all written on parchment, not hemp paper.

Even so, rejecting Proposition 19 was short sighted. But considering the infighting and misinformation throughout the campaign, it's hardly surprising. Hopefully they'll do better come 2012. Obviously no one else is going to lead the way.

  19. Actually, I'm figuring New Hampshire for the first state to legalize it. One of the few states in the nation with soil to poor to grow even hemp, they are consumers only- no growers with an interest in propping up prices, no reason to fear prices falling to a level equivalent to a bale of timothy. Besides, the take "Live Free or Die" very seriously. And drinking. What better to accompany that Bud Lite than a reefer of Iowa gold?

  20. you are all idiots who hear what one person has to say and automatically believes them. none of you have any idea of what you are talking about. you just want your weed so say it instead of making up a bunch of crap.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Actually, I have never smoked cannabis- I have asthma and can't imagine trying- but have posted three comments here, because this is an interesting social issue. I would hesitate to dismiss anyone here as stupid or an idiot- except the last post, which is a little puerile for my taste.

  22. what the hell was the actual vote tally?

    ReplyDelete
  23. 1995510 against to 1640842 for- 55% to 45%, which I gather pollsters, who assume 99% of voters use coins to decide, feel is not very close.

  24. Gosh, I would have loved to have voted for 19, but I haven't gotten out of the house much since smoking a single joint led to mainlining smack.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I dont understand why people would actually vote against this...oh yea its because it is "socially unacceptable". But going to a bar and getting wasted and being able to drive home is fine because alcohol is "drank" and "socially acceptable". Its bullshit. People need to get over themselves.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hey, you can't always walk home from a bar, but you can always drive.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I like the Declaration-on-hemp subplot. It is unlikely that a draft of the Declaration- and the Constitution much later- were not drafted on hemp paper. About 80% of paper in America at this time was hemp-based. No one wrote drafts on expensive parchment! It would be nice to be able to produce the draft but hemp doesn't last like parchment. Furthermore, the Continental Congress wrapped the draft after its reading around some tobacco leaves produced by the Virginia delegation. This they lit and passed it around while sipping Madeira and claret and discussing the revisions to be made to the disappearing draft before committing to parchment.

  28. Good! To all you pot heads. Get a fuckin life! California has enough to worry about than having a bunch of pot smokers running amok! The truth is you have no clue where your generation is going or your Government.

  29. Even the life fuckin is better stoned. Give it a try! You seem not to be havin much funz!

  30. Just vote yes on prop 19. I know I am right after I toke-a-bowl!!!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'm a fucking full time stoner and i find this offensive you kno why I DID vote and I DID vote no because the conditions im only 19 (with 215) i need weed for medical reasons and THEY LIMIT the growth space by 25x25 wtf? thats barely any space.& also weed quality would of went down because cigarette companies would of took over& grew D grade plants and poorly care for the weed.sure the quanity go up. crime would only decrease by a lil %, others would find other places to sell weed. If weed was going be legalize i think it should be 18+ and no limit on the growth but having to buy licences to grow (costing the same amount of a 215)

  33. I like how everyone on here is implying Carl Sagan is a loser.

  34. Absolutely love it when people say all Cali needs is a bunch of pot heads running around HAHA...Don't you realize, pot heads are pot heads, it doesn't matter if its legal or not. We will still smoke. Legalizing marijuana would be a great benefit, not only to California, but for the whole US. Do people not realize, Marijuana is an all natural drug. I don't hear anyone complaining about Lortab, Flexeril,Vicodan,Adderall, tylenol, ibuprofen, zoloft, etc. All of these are man made and have numerous side effects, some of which include DEATH!!! You know what the side effects of pot are?? Happy, sleepy and hungry. Are you freaking kidding me people. Prop 19 could get this state and country out of the shit we are in with the economy. People are so delusional. This is not about "tradition, our founding fathers, crime" or any other bullshit excuse. This is about freeing our country from debt and MOST important, giving citizens the right to smoke a joint in their home when they want with persecution, and to treat their medical conditions in a natural way.

  35. its a good thing the law didnt pass. im 18 and i have my medical card for several illnesses. weed is my medicine, along with thousands of other patients like me, under the age of 21. if the law had passed, the medical cards would be suspended for those under 21, creating a difficult environment for younger patients to medicate. also, anyone over the age of 18 who is caught smoking with a minor is committing a felony and will go to prison. lets say youre a 65 year old man with cancer living alone and youre watching your 6 year old grandson. your grandson is upstairs and in the front of the house taking a nap in the guest room and you are in the backyard sparking up a nice fat blunt with this beautiful sack of all star jack frost fresh from the dispensary. little do you know, your neighbor that hates you was cleaning her daughters room and happened to glance out the window and get a glimpse of you smoking this blunt. if she were to call the police, you would go to prison even if you had your medical recommendation because you have a minor on your property and are "smoking in the presence of a minor".

honestly we're better off now than if prop 19 passed
and hey, fellow stoners, dont we hate cops and authority and the government in general?
we all know that the government sugar coats things and we always find out that we cant really believe them
this is just another one of their scams
getting caught with under and ounce on you is equivalent to a traffic violation right now
who the fuck wants to go to jail
    theyre already removing inmates

    COME ON GUYS
    fuck the government

    ReplyDelete
  36. yea fuck the government!!!!!!!! when they do wanna legalize it they got these fuckin stupid weasellly loop holes to still put us in jail for weed... i need my 215 or ill feel serve pain!!! for what 2 years i got wait and deal with serve pain! no pain killers dont work only make the pain worst and makes me puke>=(

    ReplyDelete
  37. damn i smoked some bubble kush and dude i shouldnt compare weasels to the governments cause weasels>government. dirt>goernment all i got to say.. They ruined my life and I don't think im imagining shit.

    ReplyDelete
  38. You guys seem to misunderstand what i'm saying. The bill needs provisions, obviously. Do I think people in pain (like myself) should still be able to get it for medicinal reasons even if under 21, YES! But I also think, people who do not have medical issues should be able to smoke without having to worry about getting arrested. I can see both sides of the spectrum, no doubt. I think it needs to be revised, but would be a great thing when revisions are made. I don't think it should be a felony if you smoke with someone under the age of 21 in your presence, just like its not illegal to smoke a cigarette or drink a beer when you are around someone under the age of 21. And I also agree that the government tries to make it sound all peachy, but then you have these loop holes for it. Like I said, I agree with what you are saying but still believe it would be a good thing if done properly without all these rediculous rules, like the age requirments, how it would effect medicinal use etc. Maybe one day we can all smoke what GOD has given us without the issues we have discussed here. I know it would be a great improvement from cigarettes and alcahol use thats for sure. lol..All have a great day!

  39. prop 19 all props are just a part of the government's brainwash system @ Kayla.... They just wanna control you... this isnt the land of the free its more like land of laws...... if we were free you think there would be crime since there be no "government" controllin what we do.....instead ourselves would... I don't count myself as USA citizen even tho I was born in northern california(Humboldt).Plus its not your debt or my debt.... It their debt and fuck them!
This isn't true freedom.... if it was prop 19 and such wouldn't exist.. Instead a lot of ppl are greedy..If they weren't there would be freedom to grow whatever you want for your use.
