Circumcision Ban: San Francisco's Newest Ban Attempt

Circumcision Ban: San Francisco's newest ban attempt is to ban a very popular, yet elective, medical procedure: circumcision. Known as the un-happy town after banning the Happy Meal, San Francisco is heading for another controversial ban on circumcisions.

Many parents elect to have their male children undergo this relatively minor medical procedure.  Those of the Jewish faith also do this as a religious ceremony, but still the man bringing the measure to a vote suggest that a religion or culture should not be an "Excuse" enough to circumcise a baby.

He claims that circumcision is "genital mutation" and that a man's body should be his choice alone.

The ban would make it a misdemeanor to elect the procedure for your child, with a $1,000 fine and up to a year in jail.

The backer of the bill must get at least 7,000 signatures on a petition to bring the measure to ballot.

If this were on a ballot would you vote for or against a circumcision ban?

  1. Who is the man who thinks he should have rights to tell me what I can or cannot do with my own penis?

  2. That is not the right question. The man is saying that YOU have the right to do what ever you want to YOUR penis, not what you or others want to other penises. This is a good law.

  3. With their calculated, deceptive rhetoric, the perpetrators of this atrocity attempt to draw links between an obvious horror and positive abstractions such as "tradition," "religion," "science," "medicine," and "hygiene." The documents and essays on sexuallymutilatedchild.org, however, expose this charade and show what the sexual mutilation of children is really about: envy, lust, hatred, male sexual rivalry, sadism, criminal psychopathology, desperation, ruthlessness, power, control, oppression, violence, contempt for humanity, and greed.

It is about time that more human rights activists followed this lead and refused to play the circumcisers' game of evading the real issues. Circumcision is not really about medicine or public health. Circumcision is not really about preventing or curing any disease. Circumcisers are not mistaken in their medical beliefs; they are lying. Circumcision advocacy is really about weaving a convincing network of lies to deflect the attention of the public and the criminal justice system from the frightening truth that circumcisers are really criminally deranged, psychotic, knife-wielding maniacs driven by psychopathic obsessions and compulsions that most people could never understand.

  4. I would vote to ban Male Circumcision. Except for the Usual Suspect Reasons, the is no rational motivation to destroy a part of Nature's grand design for the male body.

  5. A ban on circumscision is a directly anti-semetic attack on those of the Jewish faith. For hundreds of years, lawmakers have demonized Judiasm by "othering" them through the hyper-sexualization and demonization of their "circumscisions." This will have the effect of positioning Jews as the social definition of diseased sexuality and therefore, amoral. This type of law harkens back to the eugenics laws of the early 1900 - 1990 (or so), where people deemed "other" or less than socially ideal were actually sterilized, and prevented from reproduction. And, how about enforcement? Jews will simply cross copunty lines to have their children circumscised. Again, the only real result from a law such as this will be the demonization and "othering" of jews.

  6. 97% of circumcision in the US is not Jewish, and this bill is primarily aimed at that "routine" non-therapeutic circumcision. (Worldwide, most circumcision is Muslim.) Religious freedom ends where someone else's body begins - even "my" child. The law recognises this with girls - in fact they get special legal protection. Time to end the double standard.

  7. Circumcision is disgusting. Did you know that the foreskin is homologous to the female clitoral hood? People make such a big deal of female genital mutilation, but it is the exact same thing as male circumcision! Yeah, you can live without the clitoral hood, but WHY WOULD YOU REMOVE IT?

Oh, wait, I know. Because the owner of the Kellogg company invested billions of dollars in a PR campaign to popularize the procedure to decrease masturbation.

    Not making this up, sadly.
