Unemployment Extension and One Nation Rally Bring 99ers Tier 5 Hopes

Unemployment extension, one Nation Rally, and the hope of a 99ers tier 5 extension are the talks of liberal circles today. The extension of unemployment benefits currently in place will expire in about two months, which is horrific timing considering its proximity to the holiday season.

In addition, the Senate and House won't reconvene until after the mid-term elections, and if there are politicians who have been voted out of office, what are the chances they are going to try to pass legislation such as an unemployment extension?

Try as she may, Debbie Stabenow was unable to get the unemployment extension vote to the floor of the Senate before they left on Thursday. Senator LeMieux, a Republican from Florida, thwarted attempts to take a unanimous vote on the passage.

Yesterday, the one nation working together rally took place. It was a great rally and some estimates point the attendance at about 100,000. That's no small feat considering that there are many unemployed individuals who couldn't afford to attend the rally.

However, what the One Nation rally shows is this - there are those out there fighting for the cause. If the unemployment extension tier 5 99ers bill is passed, it's because of people like those who attended the One Nation Rally's continuous fight.

The 2010 Midterms are less than two months away, and America's changing political landscape is more and more evident. Recent Tea Party upsets within Republican primaries in states such as Alaska and Delaware goes to show that America is ready for a change.

Christine O'Donnell was a Tea Party backed candidate in Delaware who is vying for vice president Biden's old Senate seat. She won the Republican nomination in the state, and many claim that her victory is really a victory for the Democrats.

Other notable issues include not only unemployment, but also the Ground Zero mosque. Fox News, Sarah Palin, and Glenn Beck all cover the issue, which has ballooned into a huge controversy. Recent tensions between Muslims and the western world were further compounded when a controversial pastor in Florida decided to announce his Koran Burning plans.

The Mid-term elections are becoming almost as important as the presidential election. Before you know it, it will be 2012 and we will be dealing with a massive re-election bid by president Obama.

Americans Want to Work Act and Middle Class Tax Cuts

The Americans Want to Work act and Middle Class tax cuts are two hot topics as we enter the political season. There are numerous primaries tonight, and many voters will have these two items on their minds.  The Bush Era Tax Cuts are set to expire at the end of this year, and Congress needs to act if they plan on extending them.


The GOP wants an extension of Tax Cuts, but the democratic party doesn't want to keep taxes low for the ultra wealthy.  Although he supports full reinstatement of all tax cuts, House Minority leader John Boehner has expressed that if the only way to keep taxes low for some Americans is to extend the cuts to the wealthy, he will do that - but the best case scenario is to extend all cuts. 


On the other hand, the Americans Want to Work Act is sitting in Congress's queue, and it almost looks as if it should be named the "Congress Doesn't Want to Work Act" based on the non-action taken on the move for another unemployment extension. 


The fact remains is this: we need tax cuts, and we need the Americans Want to Work Act to be passed. It's that simple. Keeping taxes lower for everyone and extending unemployment will do a lot to make the economy a lot better.
