19 Killed in Germany: A Stampede at German Love Parade

There were 19 people killed at a German festival, after mass panic erupted.  Police and security present at the Love Parade where 1.4 million people showed up.  Duisburg, Germany is the venue for the world's largest techno music festival.  Previously, it was in Berlin but was driven out because of the noise.

After the city reached capacity, officials shut off a tunnel that enters the city - but opened up a second exit so that people could still get out.  For some reason or another that hasn't been determined panic spread and people flocked to the exits.

The end result was that 19 were crushed to death and 342 more individuals injured.  This is a classic case of why panicking in a crowd is never a good ideal.

The festival was free so there was no ticketing system available to help investigators figure out why the stampede took place.

The stampede is a tragedy.  There's a lot of finger pointing going on over who is to blame.  Is it the festival, or is it the city, who should have kept better control over the city? There's no word over who started the panic but here's a good question - if the person could be identified, should they be held responsible?

Joran Van der Sloot 2010 Update - Casino Winnings a Potential Murder Motive?

Joran Van der Sloot has been in the media since May 30, 2005 when he was the last to see one Natalee Holloway alive. Once again on May 30, 2010 - exactly five years to the day later he was the last one to see Stephany Flores Ramirez alive.

Instead of being missing, Flores's body was found brutally murdered in a room in a casino registered to none other than Joran Van der Sloot.  The young Dutch man confessed to the murder, but is trying to retract his confession, claiming that he was co-erced.

What motive was present that would cause Joran to kill Stephany?  She is known to have won approximately $237 the night she died, which isn't much money - but people have been killed because of far less.

However, she won $10,000 in the weeks leading to her death, although she was not seen on casino surveillance with Joran the day she died.

It's well known that Joran is in need of money.  He's wanted in the United States in connection with an extortion plot.  He was trying to get a quarter million dollars from the mother of Natalee Holloway, offering in exchange the location of her daughter's remains.

It's possible that money is the driving force behind the murder.  $237 isn't much, so if Joran killed her for money it was likely the $10,000.

We could also be dealing with a serial killer that likes to mock and make the law enforcement officials look like a fool.  Another story tossed around is that Flores overstepped into Joran's personal space, enraging him.

Kyron Horman Missing Case Latest News Updates - A Murder for Hire Plot

The Kyron Horman missing child case updates grow thicker, as the latest news just in suggests a murder  for hire plot.  Kyron Horman's stepmother Terri Moulton Horman allegedly offered a landscaper a large sum of money to kill Kyron's father, Kaine.  This is breaking news in the case.

Authorities shared the information with Kaine Horman recently, which is presumably why he filed for divorce and was able to secure a restraining order on his wife, take his daughter, and get it where Terri can't even have a firearm.

All this makes the case take a strange turn - but the main question still remains - where is Kyron? Kyron is STILL missing and there's no sign of him.

Terri has hired a high profile criminal defense attorney, Stephen Houze.  Neither Kaine nor Terri's attorneys are speaking out about the case.

Many have previously claimed that having the spotlight on Terri Horman during this case amounted to a "modern day witch hunt." The new developments raise questions in the minds of many - after all, if the allegations are true could it possibly be that Terri decided to get to Kaine through his son?

The whole Kyron Horman Case is strange to say the least. There was no Amber Alert issued. Authorities have been unusually tight-lipped.  Many are hoping that there will be some resolution to the case in the coming days.  After all, Kyron Horman has been missing for a month.

Wimbledon Women's Final 2010 - Another Big Win for Serena Williams

The Wimbledon Women's Final 2010 has finished, and the 2010 final at the Wimbledon Grand Slam was another big win for Serena Williams. The 29 year old tennis star who was born in Saginaw Michigan easily slid to the Wimbledon women's finals, although she missed out on the women's doubles tournament with her sister.

Many suspected that the final would be Venus vs Serena, as the two are the #1 and #2 ranked stars. Venus was taken out during the quarterfinal round, and made good company with Roger Federer, who was favored to win the men's championship.

Serena's Wimbledon Final 2010 opponent was Vera Zvonareva, who was seeded at #21 and slipped past Kim Clijsters to make it to the final round. She was hoping to make big waves, upsetting Serena Williams at the Wimbledon 2010 women's finals but that did not transpire.

Venus and Serena were knocked out of the women's doubles finals at the quarterfinals as well. They had previously won all four Grand Slams back to back, and were expected to keep on rolling after winning the French Open last month.

The Wimbledon Women's finals 2010 also made it through without any drama from either of tennis hottest sisters. Last year Serena had an outburst at the US Open which cost her $82,000 (pocket change for someone who has won tens of millions of dollars during her career.)

The ending score was a 6-3, 6-2 victory for Serena Williams. Her opponent, although far from victorious in her endeavor, never really stood a chance against Serena.

Le Tour 2010 and Lance Armstrong's "Final" Tour de France?

Le Tour 2010 is expected to be Lance Armstrong's last Tour de France run ... again.  The American cyclist has stated that he was retiring in the past, only to resurface.  The 38 year old finished third during the 2009 Tour and has won seven Tour titles in his career.

During the 2010 Tour de France, Lance Armstrong will be racing with Team Radio Shack in its inaugural year.  A win on the part of Armstrong will be a great feat for both the athlete and the team.

Previously, Armstrong raced with the US Post Office team.

Where Lance has an edge over his competitors is in the mountains.  The mountainous regions are what make or break the various competitors. The flat surfaces aren't where the key competitors win- but making a mistake where it's easy is where races can be lost. 

This year the competitors will have to navigate not only mountains but also cobblestone roads.  In addition, the race doesn't take place exclusively in France.  On July 3rd it will get underway in Brussels. 

Having watched several Tours- and even being present in Paris for the finale of the 2002 Tour, I must say that my favorite part of the tour is when the cyclists make it to the Champs Elysees in Pairs and zip around the various sites of the City of Lights.  This is where the winner of the entire Tour - not just the stage - is determined.

Wimbledon 2010 Sees Federer, Venus and Serena Williams Defeated

The 2010 Wimbledon Grand Slam tennis tournament saw Roger Federer and Venus and Serena Williams defeated.  The shocking Wimbledon losses are disappointing, at best - although having other athletes take their chance at winning is exciting in its own right.

Federer hasn't had much luck this season.  At the French Open, he was defeated before reaching the finals. This time, he was defeated in the quarterfinals and his emotions were visible.  He's a class act - he didn't act out inappropriately although you can tell when an athlete is unhappy with their performance.

In addition to the Wimbledon 2010 shockers is that Venus and Serena Williams were defeated in the women's doubles quarterfinals.  This happened on the heels of the duo winning four consecutive Grand Slam tournament titles.

Vera Zvonavera and Elena Vesnina upset the Williams' 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.   This is shocking, considering that the Russian duo is unseeded whereas Venus and Serena are at the #1 Women's doubles slot.

Venus was also defeated during the women's singles quarter finals by Tsvetana Pironkova 6-2, 6-3.

Serena Williams is heading to the women's semifinals and will face Petra Kvitova. She played the doubles match with her shoulder heavily taped, and the sisters were assessed a fine after the tournament.

Wimbledon is almost over.  Roger Federer and the Williams' sisters domination are done. The shocking upset are what keeps tennis fans from around the world tuning in to each and every match.

The next Grand Slam will take place at the US Open from August 30 to September 12, 2010.  The Australian Open will follow in January 2011.
