Could Unemployment Extension 2010 & Bush Tax Cut Compromise Hurt Obama?

Could the unemployment extension 2010 and the Bush Tax cut compromise hurt President Obama's quest to be re-elected in 2012? Although the unemployment extension will give him points with the long-term unemployed, getting the extensions passed involved breaking campaign promises.

President Obama vowed not to raise taxes on the middle class - those earning less than $250,000 per year - but he didn't vow to do the same for the wealthiest Americans. Obama wanted the tax cuts put into place by President Bush to expire for the wealthiest Americans.

However, the GOP and the Democratic government were at a stalemate. Would they increase taxes on the wealthy, and use that money to pay for the unemployment extension?

Such would make sense, but that's not going to happen.

And could actually bending on the tax cuts hurt Obama? After all, it's yet another broken campaign promise. However, if it was the only way to pass the unemployment extension, that's great news.

After all, the unemployment extension 2010 will extend the benefits for a full year! This means there's not going to be a need to worry a couple of months from now. Hopefully next year at this time, the job market will be better.

EXPIRING: Unemployment Extension, 2010 Tier 5 for 99ers, & Obama's Salary Cut

The unemployment extension and tier 5 for 99ers is expiring today, and unless swift action is taken, over 2 million Americans will lose their income during the holiday season.  This happened before, in the spring - and it took weeks for those on Capital Hill to FINALLY pass an extension of unemployment benefits.

The problem is this - we are in the final weeks of the lame duck session.  This means that after Congress adjourns, then it will be the newly elected Congress that will need to pass the extension of unemployment benefits.

The problem with that is that the newly elected Congress is that they are dominated by members of the GOP - not surprising in its entirety because of criticisms of the current government, and the Obama Administration.  However, they aren't exactly for the unemployment extension - not because they don't want to help those without a job but because they want to curb government spending.

Obama has proposed ways to cut the budget - he's going to freeze civilian pay for federal government workers.  Of course, this move has to be approved by Congress.

I imagine that there will be a lot of upset federal workers, but they should be grateful to have jobs...with benefits...although I could understand that knowing that you aren't going to get your customary raise would be disconcerting, at best.

There are a lot of things to hammer out. However, the unemployment extension - no matter what the cost - should be of the utmost importance to legislators.

Politics: Unemployment Extension, 99ers Tier 5 2010 Continues To Be Elusive

The unemployment extension and 99ers' Tier 5 movement remains to be elusive, as the holiday season is in full steam.  If the unemployment extension is not passed during the lame duck session, over 2 million Americans will experience a lapse in benefits over the holiday season.

The current emergency federal benefits will expire on November 30, 2010 - which is only three short days from now.  Back in the spring, the extension of benefits was delayed and as such there was a big cluster when it came to getting everyone their benefits.

The current proposal which was put to a "fast track" vote in Congress would have extended benefits until February 28, 2010.  This is a short extension, but it would have at least gotten Americans through the holiday season.  The "Fast track" rules of legislation call for a 2/3 majority in order to pass the house, but that did not transpire.

Still, passing the house still faces an uphill battle in the Senate.

The unemployed are keeping their fingers crossed that the extension of benefits will be involved in a deal cut with the GOP. Perhaps if the GOP is given the Bush Tax Cuts, they will give back the unemployment extension in return.

DENIED: Unemployment Extension, Tier 5, 99ers Benefits [2010]

DENIED: Unemployment Extension, Tier 5, 99ers Benefits 2010. In what has become a semi-standoff in the government, the unemployment extension was DENIED in the House. Even if the final 2010 unemployment extension measure did indeed pass in the House, it would have faced an uphill battle in the Senate.

The House of Representatives voted to extend the emergency unemployment extensions using the fast track, which would require a 2/3 majority for passage. The end vote was 258-154. The GOP stood strong and said that they would not pass a measure without corresponding budget cuts.

Americans watched as their dreams deflated. Over the holiday season, millions of Americans on the current emergency extensions will lose their benefits. As their benefits lapse, there will be a corresponding lapse in checks.

The failure of the passage of the unemployment extension in the House solidifies fears that a Tier 5 extension will never be passed. With the GOP taking over the House and having gains in the Senate, passing such a measure will be difficult.

In response to the GOP's failure to pass the unemployment extension, the House of Representatives Democrats announced they would stand firm and will not vote to extend Bush Tax Cuts to ALL Americans - only those making less than $250K per year.

What do you think of the denied unemployment extension, tier 5, and 99ers benefits 2010?

Tomorrow: Unemployment Extension, Tier 5, 99ers Forgotten During Congressional Session?

Tomorrow: Unemployment Extension, Tier 5, 99ers Forgotten During Congressional Session? Tomorrow Congress meets for the lame duck session, and with the Congressmen and women who were voted out of office licking their wounds, will the unemployed pay the force of their fury, or will it be those who desired the Bush tax cut.

The agenda for the "lame duck session" doesn't include the unemployment extension - either the current benefits or the tier 5.

That means that the government, this holiday season, could depart without passing an unemployment extension. To a certain extent, there are many families that will go through the holidays in uncertainty over how they are going to buy presents, pay the bills, and keeps the family warm.

The agenda will be laced with the Bush Tax Cuts, Social Security COLA, and the DREAM Act 2010. While many of these items are important, isn't the unemployment extension more important, especially given the expiration of emergency benefits on November 30th.

Lame: Unemployment Extension, Tier 5, 99ers Absent from Agenda

Lame: Unemployment Extension, Tier 55, 99ers Absent from Agenda. The "Lame Duck" session is really lame, as the unemployment extension, tier 5, and 99ers aren't even mentioned. While the emergency unemployment extensions are set to expire at the end of the month, the agenda seems to include everything BUT an extension of benefits.

In fact, the 2010 DREAM Act, which would bring citizenship to illegal immigrants who have been in the US for over 5 years and who are second generation illegal immigrants (their parents brought them to the US) who agreed to 2 years military service or 2 years of college.

So basically, illegal immigrants, and entertaining the'DREAM' is more important to congressmen and women than the millions of TAXPAYING unemployed American workers.

In addition, talks of the Social Security COLA, Bush Tax Cuts, and the Continued Spending Resolution bill (without this, spending ceases altogether) also round out the lame duck session.

Isn't it LAME that the unemployment extension, tier 5, and 99ers were ignored during the agenda?

Administration: Unemployment Extension, Tier 5, Jobless Benefits & Government Cuts

Administration: Unemployment Extension, Tier 5, Jobless Benefits News & Government Cuts. The Obama administration is garnering a lot of criticism, as the Deficit Panel has revealed a "painful" list of changes that America needs to make to cut the looming deficits that our budget faces.

With all of this, will the unemployment extension take place? The GOP has expressed that they would extend the current tiers in place, but only if the Democrats cut spending or raise taxes by a complimentary amount. There's no talks of a Tier 5, and it's not on their agenda for the lame duck session.

So what does the deficit panel think needs to transpire? Well, there could be some job cuts in line for federal jobs - so some federal employees could join the ranks of the unemployed.

According to Herald News, the Deficit Panel's recommendations look like this: “enact tough discretionary spending caps” and find $200 billion in savings by 2015. Second: tax reform “that dramatically reduces rates, simplifies the code, broadens the base and reduces the deficit.” The third step addresses reforms of the health system. Fourth: mandatory savings from farm subsidies and civilian and military retirement costs. And fifth: reforms to Social Security to ensure its solvency “while reducing poverty among seniors.” You can read more, here.

What do you think will happen the unemployment extension, tier 5, and jobless benefits?

Agenda: Unemployment Extension, Tier 5, Jobless Benefits Not On Lame Duck Session

Agenda: Unemployment Extension, Tier 5, Jobless Benefits Not On Lame Duck Session agenda. According to congress, the Unemployment Extension isn't very important at all. Today, during a Fox News broadcast it was brought to my attention that the unemployment extension isn't on the agenda during the lame duck session.

In fact, one of my colleagues pointed out this morning that Nancy Pelosi pretty much told the unemployed not to count on the GOP for extensions.

If that is the case, then I don't see why she and her democratic colleagues don't take the initiative to fight tooth and nail for the extension of benefits and possibly the Tier 5 before they get out of office.

Perhaps Ms. Pelosi is a little too bitter about handing over her gavel to John Boehner?

If the Unemployment extension isn't on the Lame Duck agenda then what is? Well, an Employment Anti-Discrimination act, the DREAM Act 2010, COLA Social Security adjustments, Continued Resolution Spending Bill, and of course the Bush Tax Cuts.

Just a question - what good is an Anti-discrimination employment act if everyone is unemployed?

Do you think that the Congress has their priorities in order, or do you think that the unemployment extension should be higher on their list of priorities?

Congress: Unemployment Extension, Tier 5, 99ers & Tax Decisions

The unemployment extension and Tier 5 isn't available, and current unemployment extensions expire at the end of the month. However, Congress is more concerned with the extension of "Bush Tax Cuts" than the extension of unemployment benefits

Why?

Probably because all the wealthy people who donated to the campaigns of the lawmakers are concerned about the expiration of the Bush Tax Cuts, which would send tax revenues skyrocketing.

However, the new administration promised in the "Pledge to America" that the tax cuts would be extended to all - not just the middle class.

The Democrats were in a standoff, as the tax cuts are not first and foremost on their agenda. They don't think that the wealthy should get tax cuts, and that the middle class shouldn't be burdened with extra expenses in the midst of the current economy.

The extensions that expire at the end of the month could be extended before the Senate and Congress leave their lame duck sessions, if the Democrats agree to pay for it with decreased government spending.

The unemployment extension fight is about to get more interesting.

Decisions: Unemployment Extension, Tier 5, 99ers, or Bush Tax Cuts?

The 99ers' unemployment extension, the tier 5 and Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy are things on the minds of both old and new lawmakers. What will be their decisions when they enter the lame duck session next week? Will they hit on the unemployment extension first, or will they try to pass the tax cuts first?

Probably the tax cuts, but that's a HUGE mistake, mainly because the tax cuts expire at the end of the month. Something must be done so that Congress doesn't become the Grinch who Stole Christmas from about 2 million American families.

The Bush Tax Cuts are a concern to the wealthy. After all, if they aren't extended the government will get loads more tax revenue. You'd think that with our economy the way it is, that would be a good thing. However, no one wants to pay taxes - especially not the wealthy.

In addition, who do you think funds the campaigns for Congressmen/women and Senators? Not the unemployed - that's for certain. It's the wealthy. Washington has a stronger interest in helping those who helped them personally, than helping us.

Hopefully the decisions that Washington makes over the unemployment extension will be positive. American needs an unemployment extension for the 99ers, and a Tier 5.

Unemployment Extension 2010

Unemployment extension 2010 is needed, and if the most recent jobs reports doesn’t tell us that then I don’t know what will. The fact remains that right now, passing another unemployment extension is the last thing on the agenda of the administration. When the Senate reconvenes, I expect the topics of discussion to quickly switch to passing the Bush Era tax cuts.

So much of the progress in the administration until the end of the year depends on the results from November 2 elections.

If the GOP dominates the polls, then expect the unemployment extension, particularly the Americans want to work act, to be pushed aside. Also expect tiers 1-4 to expire without a renewal.

The jobs reports recently released indicate that new jobless claims increased by 13,000 to 462,000 for this past week. The economy is nowhere near creating the number of jobs needed to put a dent in the 9.6% unemployment rate. The unemployment extension is needed to help the helpless survive during these hard times.

Of course, the S3706 bill proposed by Debbie Stabenow was thwarted by George Lemieux, who cited concerns about the nation’s debt for the reason for stopping the bill’s passage.

Unemployment Extension A 99ers Continuing Tier 5 Battle Despite Senate Leave

The unemployment extension tier 5 99ers battle continues, even though Senate is not in session. With the elections coming up soon, there's no doubt that those who truly believe in the cause should continue their fight. The tiers 1-4 extensions of unemployment benefits will go away on November 30, and with the Senate not coming back until after the mid-term elections, things are a bit uncertain, at best.

You see, if the GOP gets into office their main concern is going to be extending the Bush tax cuts, a move that they claim will stimulate the economy.

If the Democrats keep control of the House and the Senate, then perhaps the passage of tier 5 extension would be more possible. Still yet, if the July passage of that extension is any indication of how things will be, it will be difficult to get any benefits passed quickly before the tiers 1-4 expire.

The battle continues, but hopefully through the election season the right people will be put in office who will fight for the unemployment extension.

Unemployment Extension and One Nation Rally Bring 99ers Tier 5 Hopes

Unemployment extension, one Nation Rally, and the hope of a 99ers tier 5 extension are the talks of liberal circles today. The extension of unemployment benefits currently in place will expire in about two months, which is horrific timing considering its proximity to the holiday season.

In addition, the Senate and House won't reconvene until after the mid-term elections, and if there are politicians who have been voted out of office, what are the chances they are going to try to pass legislation such as an unemployment extension?

Try as she may, Debbie Stabenow was unable to get the unemployment extension vote to the floor of the Senate before they left on Thursday. Senator LeMieux, a Republican from Florida, thwarted attempts to take a unanimous vote on the passage.

Yesterday, the one nation working together rally took place. It was a great rally and some estimates point the attendance at about 100,000. That's no small feat considering that there are many unemployed individuals who couldn't afford to attend the rally.

However, what the One Nation rally shows is this - there are those out there fighting for the cause. If the unemployment extension tier 5 99ers bill is passed, it's because of people like those who attended the One Nation Rally's continuous fight.

Unemployment Extension And 99ers Tier 5 One Nation Rally 2010

Unemployment extension? What unemployment extension? That's the problem we face right now. The Senate has already left to go home and campaign for the mid-term elections, and the 99ers are left without a hope for a tier 5. What's worse is that the benefits extension that was passed back in July after millions of Americans went months without benefits will expire again on November 30.

If the Republican party gets seats in the House and Senate as expected this November, chances for a Tier 5 extension are all but gone. The conservative party has been increasingly critical of the Democrats for their stimulus plans and "pay as you go" bills. If a tier 5 extension bill comes to Congress which has a clear cut and agreeable way for funding, it would likely get passed. However, no one wants to pay for the unemployment extension.

Ask any American and they'd tell you that they'd rather send their tax dollars to fellow Americans than overseas. Why are we giving aid to Pakistani flood victims when Pakistan harbors terrorists from time to time? What's wrong with that picture?

Hopefully the American 99ers Union and the hundreds of other liberal organizations gathering in DC today will be able make headway for the unemployment extension. A tier 5 is needed, and from what I see there aren't many politicians who seem to care.

Another Unemployment Extension Update: As Lemieux Blocks Bill, 99ers Rally for Tier 5

The unemployment extension doesn’t look likely any time soon.  The tier 5 bill for the 99ers, aka Americans want to Work Act was not passed by Congress before they left. Although Senator Stabenow, the Bill’s sponsor, tried to bring the measure to the floor it was blocked by Senator LeMieux.

The republican Senator from Florida is not up for re-election, so his measure doesn’t threaten his job for now. He claims that the “spend as you go” tactics for trying to deal with the economy aren’t working.

There’s no funding source of the bill, and as such the senator claims that it is not wise to pass the legislation. The conservative Heritage Foundation has given reasons why the bill is not economically sound, including that many individuals find work right after their benefits expire.

Yeah, right. Try telling that to the millions of 99ers who have been without work for well over the 99 weeks of current benefits.

The American 99ers Union is rallying along with the One Nation Working Together Rally at Washington, DC tomorrow.  The laundry list of wishes from ralliers includes better unemployment benefits and higher minimum wages.

Will the turnout at the rally tomorrow inspire changes? That will be hard to tell, as the Senate will not re-convene until AFTER the mid-term elections. Hopefully, at that time the unemployment extensions measures will be passed.

99ers Unemployment Extension Benefits and Tier 5 Rally Coming Soon

A 99ers unemployment extension benefits rally is coming soon for those who desire a tier 5 unemployment extension. The American 99ers union is staging a rally at the Lincoln Memorial this weekend to show those on Capital Hill all those in the US who are in need of help.

The rally promises to "feature human and civil rights leaders, labor leaders, environmental and peace activists, faith leaders, celebrities and sports figures – all marching together to help Put America Back to Work and to Pull America Back Together. And to help reorder our national priorities so that investments in people come first."

The bill S 3706 - Debbie Stabenow's "Americans Want to Work Act" hasn't been progressing through Congress - it's not even been brought to the floor. We have only one week before the Senate breaks to go home and campaign for the looming election.

The focus has been on the Bush Tax Cuts and extending them - the GOP promises to do so, yet they do little to promise help for the unemployed. There are a lot of distractions from the looming mid-term elections, and unfortunately millions more unemployed will be without a lifeline starting November 30th if nothing else is done.

If you are planning on attending the rally, please let us know. The unemployment extension should be a big priority, but unfortunately the 99ers and the tier 5 movement aren't.

99er Tier 5 Unemployment Extension After Recession is Over?

A 99er Tier 5 unemployment extension is called for, but “experts” say that the recession is “over.”  The news that the recession has, indeed, been over since June 2009 is rather shocking, considering that now, more than ever, unemployment extensions are needed.

I read a shocking piece in the Press Telegram from Long Beach, CA which reads that even though the “great recession” has technically ended, the US has more people living in poverty than ever before.

However, by claiming that the recession is over, the Administration and the politicians in Washington can try to slough the cries for extensions of unemployment benefits to the side, claiming that things are “getting better.”

That is indeed what’s happening.  Right now, the Americans Want to Work Act is pretty much just a stack of paper collecting dust.  The focus in Congress is on various other legislation, many of which are aimed at certain groups of people which the incumbents hope will come to the polls in November.

A rally is planned for 10/2 for an unemployment extension.  The march on Capital Hill should show Congress the sheer number of people in need of – and support of unemployment extensions.

The sad thing is that those in Washington are in denial.  They can crunch numbers and massage statistics to make everything appear to be “okay” when in fact you can’t lie about how people are feeling. You can’t lie to the people who don’t have a job and can’t find one, despite trying non stop every waking hour.

Will the 99er tier 5 unemployment extension be passed? Well, since the recession is “over” who knows. However, we can’t stop fighting the fight.

A 99er Tier 5 Unemployment Extension Debate Continues Amid Primary Elections

All 99ers are trying to ensure that a Tier 5 unemployment extension is on the agenda of candidates for office.  The unemployment extension tier 5 movement continues in the wake of primary elections.  The debate will continue all the way until the mid-term elections and beyond.

With only a couple of months before the final votes will be cast, keeping an eye on who is for and against the Tier 5 extension is of utmost importance.

Right now, the GOP will likely stalemate efforts to pass the bill that has been proposed by Debbie Stabenow, unless it pays for itself in some miraculous way.

The Senate won’t even be back in Washington to discuss the bill until at least September 13, and it’s unlikely that it’s the first thing on their agenda.

Only candidates worried about safeguarding the American people should be voted in to office.  With unemployment extensions at an all time high, you have to ask yourself if someone against the extension is really for the people.

Although primaries in areas such as Alaska wrapped up, there’s still opportunities to vote. This election is crucial to ensure the Tier 5 extension will be passed.

After Jobless Claims Increase by 500000, a Tier 5 Unemployment Extension Needed More

Jobless claims increased by 500,000 this week, and a Tier V unemployment extension is needed now more than ever. There will be more and more people that eclipse the 99 week mark, and with jobs sloughing off the economy faster than ever before the outlook isn't good.

It's not as if they government hasn't bailed out Wall Street, the auto industry and pretty much industry that placed their hand out for cash.  It's not as if we haven't sent billions of dollars in humanitarian aid to other countries.

And it's not like those on Capital Hill haven't benefitted from their offices.  American people who pay taxes would much rather see that money go to their neighbor than into the hands of an irresponsible company.

Still yet, there's no definitive schedule on when a Tier 5 bill will be passed.  There is a bill in both the House and the Senate, and getting politicians on the same page is not going to be an easy task.

While the Senate is out in their home states doing work, it's never been a better time for the unemployed to try to reach them.

Tier 5, 99ers Update: Unemployment Extension and Benefits Needed Amid Unemployment Rise

Tier 5 unemployment extension updates are needed by the millions of 99ers who are praying for benefits to roll out their way. The recent Jobless report indicated what so many on main street already knew - an extension isn't only needed, it's downright necessary.

The Tier 5 unemployment extension bill has been introduced by Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and is known under its moniker of S3706. There are a lot of controversial elements to the bill, which would bring 20 weeks of benefits on top of the 99 available to those in the worst hit states.

The one thing that is great about S3706 is that it provides businesses with an incentive to hire people who have been unemployed during the long term. Certain tax credits available to businesses may make them decide to hire extra help, and hire those who have been unemployed.

There are many questions that need to be answered. How will we pay for the measure? Will it help the economy? Will it provide for economic and job growth?

The politics as usual will play a role in when or if this bill will pass. Keep an eye on this legislation and also the jobless reports as they roll out every week and month.
