Unemployment Benefits Extension – Approval Rating of Obama Lead 2010 Political Buzz

The unemployment benefits extension and the approval rating of Obama lead the political buzz circles today. Yesterday, the Senate received the 60 votes they needed to end the Republican led filibuster which was squashing the hopes of an extension of tiers 1-4 of the emergency unemployment passed largely by the Bush Administration.

It’s hoped that the actual extension of benefits will be passed later today, in which case Obama could sign the bill and have it instituted as law by the end of the week.

Obama needs a move like that, as his approval rating has plummeted in recent weeks. Quinnipiac University had a poll which indicated that 48% of Americans disapprove with his performance.

Perhaps his speaking out on the unemployment extension will help edge that approval rating upwards. Otherwise, Obama will face fierce competition come 2012. If the Democrats want to hold on to their Presidency, they are going to have to do something to get people to like Obama again.

People are disheartened with government spending, partisan politics, the recently passed healthcare legislation, immigration debates, and the unemployment situation. You name it, people are griping about it.

The focus right now should be on passing the unemployment extension ASAP. If not, then Obama’s ratings will likely suffer more as people find places to put blame.

  2. See what I am not understanding is why are people looking to point fingers at Obama for this delay? He is the one that is calling out the republicans for their wrongful and selfish acts. We all know that as soon as the republicans stop dicking around with this bill that Obama is not going to hesitate on signing it. So all I have to say or point fingers at is the selfish republicans that do not want to help the ones in need because they are worried that they are not going to have enough money in the budget to get their next raise. I thought that United States stands for all the united Americans that are suppose to be one....not having war amongst ourselves 'democrats vs republicans'. Last I checked the republicans were Americans also so they need to start acting like it!

  3. Well, lets just open up the borders. THAT surely should drive unemployment for LEGAL Americans down, shouldn't it Mr. Obama? Waitaminute! Explain to me how that works again, willya?

I actually agree with extending the Unemployment benefits. I don't agree with the Republicans using this as the point to turn on for balanced spending, even though I also agree with that point (balanced spending) as well. I don't think most of them (the Republicans) are willing to come out in outright opposition to extending the benefits, but I also think that some of them sincerely want to help Legal Americans who are out of work.

Did you know that an illegal worker, who used a bogus Social Security Number (usually claiming 12+ exemptions to pay NO TAXES) can successfully apply for and GET unemployment benefits? I don't know if I think that is right. Sure, they earned it in a certain sense, but only in the same sense as a drug dealer on the corner does if you count all illegal activity the same, and the drug dealer does not get unemployment benefits. (not that I think they should, either!)

Obama is getting positive spin from this he really does not deserve, but the Republicans gave this one to him. I think it was a mis-step on their part. I suspect Political Motivation is the highest motivator in Washington, and that is what is wrong!

Get them ALL out! Vote Green Party and Libertarian. Sure, both are even more extreme than the Dems and Repubs, but they can't be any more dishonest than the Established Status Quo that Obama joined up with despite his promises to the contrary!

    ;'{P~~~

  4. This extension can do no harm to this economy...after all, none of us can bank any money with unemployment, every cent goes right back into the economy through us paying our bills, and supporting ourselves and our families. Republicans need to stop handing out aide to big businesses and wall street, and maybe look at the people responsible for keeping those companies in business...US the LEGAL citizens of this country. HELP YOUR BIG BUSINESS BABIES BY HELPING THE PEOPLE WHO KEEP THEM OPERATING. IT'S A SIMPLE CONCEPT

  5. When are the politicians going to get what is going on in this country. They have their cushy jobs. The jobs that the unemployed have paid for with their never ending tax dollars before the economy went down the tube. I am a 59 year old nurse with excellent resume and I cant find a job. The problem is that a new nurse right out of school will work for half of what I can make. In the state of Florida, the classifieds are down to nothing, and the jobs posted want a Masters degree to do menial work. What has happened to this country when all of our jobs are outsourced to other countries. I did not do this, our government did. This is the same group of people who have been playing their games with my unemployment benefits, the ones my taxes have been paying for over thirty five years. We have money to spend on wars that I don't think we should be involved in. We have money to send to all these countries who hate us, but just being an American taxpayer we are told that we are lazy for needing unemployment benefits. I found myself thanking Foodstamps for my benefits yesterday. I cried after thanking them for benefits. My age and thanking for benefits. I dont want benefits I want a freeken job. They can't imagine what it is like, to wonder at the end of the month if my family will be out in the street. Something as a well qualified nurse I never expected. Please pass the unemployment extension today so I can have at least a chance of paying my rent.

  6. Adam I feel the same way that you feel, thank god I'm a democrat and really proud to be... What americans need to do is get rid of that automated robot when you call a 1 800 # and get a live agent on that phone, that will create more jobs.... Oh and Mr President Obama all my respect to you but get our troops back home, it's not helping any over there. They will always be so crooked that there is no hope. let our troops come home to their family and somehow block all mosleems from coming in the US. thanks

  7. I AM FOR AN EXTENSION OF BENIFITS.
BY THE YEAR 2018 EVERYONE IN AMERICA WILL HAVE A JOB WITH THE GOVERMENT IF THE HIRING STAYS AT THE SAME RATE. BY THE YEAR 2020 THE ONLY THING MANUFACTURED IN AMERICA WILL BE THE PRINTING OF MONEY. SOMEONE WILL HAVE TO HAVE A JOB IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR TO PAY TAXES TO THE GOVERMENT SO THEY CAN PAY ALL THE GOVERMENT WORKERS. BIG GOVERMENT WILL SELF DESTRUCT ITSELF. VOTE THEM ALL OUT OF OFFICE AND HAVE TERM LIMITS FOR CONGRESS, TWO TERMS AND YOU ARE OUT.

  8. You are right and Rome wasn't built in a day not even 4 years. Our economy is in bad shape, but it was not at the expense of our President. Our Country was in the wreck its in today before Mr Obama was elected into office. And I to feel that we need to stay in our own Country and worry about our own citizens and their welfare. If our Country is broke like the government say, then they need to stop sending foreign aid helping countries that can't wait to attack us. We need people in congress who will stand for the people of the Country and secure our right to freedom to work and take care of our families. And not have to face losing our jobs, homes, and peace of mind. I have seen an x-coworker of mine who has no husband lose her job due to plant closure. W were both laid off April 2009, she has had to foreclose on her home and car. She worried so by not having no income coming in her home to play bills that she caused herself to be in bad health. Just last week she had a stroke simply from worrying about her bills and her finances. Its not right to misuse people I believe these congressmen have forgotten how they got to Washington. And who says they will be able to stay in Washington come August? When you do people wrong, wrong will follow you.

  9. I am opposed to any further extension of so-called unemployment benefits which in truth is nothing but an increase in welfare spending designed to enslave more and more able-bodied and willing workers to accept that the true God of America is governmentalism and as they bow before the false and bedeviled god they forget that it is their individualism which is a stake along with their freedoms, rights, and liberties.

To exchange the American Constitutional Republic's protections and guarantees of individual rights and liberties as opposed to grants, licenses, and privileges is to say that we were wrong about socialistic communism and that we now surrender to it.

Get off your ass, get away from your computer, eschew government doles and invent a better rat trap or at least find a rat infested area wherein the residents will gladly pay you to rid the neighborhood of the rats. After making some money and having some success at your newly adopted employment do what a true patriot does and get off your ass and get to the election booth on November 2, 2010 and vote in the dismantling of OBAMANATION UPON THE NATION, INC.

Damn, do SOMETHING, ANYTHING which is productive and rejects taking another government "handout" which you descendants WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR and stand up on the two legs and feet GOD ALMIGHTY gave you.

  10. Mr. Kenneth Treuter, Your exactly what is screwing up this country, an idiot. You should run for office. You sound just like the rest of those idiots running this screwed up country.

  11. Mr.Kenneth Treuter, you can say that because you have a job and money. And as far as me getting up off my ass and get A JOB, what am I supposed to do shit one! Are you in politics? If so remind me not to vote for your butt come November. And another thing our President stands for us, the people of the United States. We make up the majority you opposed to helping the ones who put you politicians in office who care less about your fellow man, you are the minority. I will vote for our President again and again, he is for what's right and just. So get off the President and help our President make this Country strong the way it once was. With everyone fighting against him trying to make him look bad is not getting done what needs to be done for this Country. So let's stand together and let's pick this Country back on its feet and work together in doing so.
