Alaska, Joe Miller, and the Tea Party Express

Alaska's Joe Miller has pulled off what is perhaps the largest political upset of the mid-term elections. In a strange twist of fate, incumbent Lisa Murkowski conceded to a little-known lawyer by the name of Joe Miller.

So how is it that this little-known individual was able to overturn an established candidate? Joe Miller was backed by the Tea Party Express and former Alaskan governor Sarah Palin.

You would think that the people of Alaska would be a little over Sarah Palin. After all, she did step down as governor suddenly, and without a real compelling explanation. However, she remains a strong political force, and if the primary win by Joe Miller doesn't show that, then I don't think anything will.

The same thing goes for the Tea Party express. The grassroots movement is pushing for a change, and calling for the end of unnecessary taxes and superfluous government spending. How the Tea Party affects the voting public will be very interesting to see.
