Glenn Beck Rally Attendance Controversy Explained

Glenn Beck's rally attendance controversy continues, and CBS news explained yesterday how the 87,000 crowd estimate came to be. Those who actually went to the Glenn Beck rally believe that far more people came than the 87,000 reported by the news agency.

The article points out that although the photos and videos look like hundreds of thousand of people were present, looking at the photos and videos alone doesn't take into consideration how tightly packed those in attendance were.  That means that a rather large crowd can look small and vice versa.

Still yet, Beck and others say there were hundreds of thousands of people present.  Beck is in the position where it's expected to over exaggerate how many people were at the rally. However the disparity in the numbers is alarming.

What's the cause? Are the "scientific" estimates correct? If so, does Beck want to make the crowd sound larger?? Are the estimates of people who attended correct? If so, does that mean that the current administration has something to worry about?

  1. CBS is not reporting the truth. It is a well-known fact that just the number of people it takes to fill in around the refecting pool is over 100,000, and there were many times more people there than that. The distance from the
Washington Monument to the steps of the Lincoln memorial is almost 2 miles! What does CBS have to gain by reporting lower attendance? That this event was not anything that they or the president should be concerned about. But in fact, just the opposite it true. They should be worried about the number of people who came as they reflect a huge number of people who still hold to conservative values, same values of our founding fathers held, values that the liberals and progressions have abandoned long ago.

  6. even so, the fact that so many people did attend says something. it's about time the government wake up to the fact that the PEOPLE, the american populace to which it is supposed to serve (hence, "we the people...") wants change, and not in the form of ridiculous government interference. time to take back america.

  9. The government _did_ wake up to what the people want: it was called the 2008 Presidential Election. Even if there had been a million people at the rally, that wouldn't make up 1% of the number of people who voted in 2008.

The most common sign at Tea Party rallies are, "Listen to ME!" This is just a nice way of saying, "I don't like the results of the last election!" The current administration _does_ listen people throughout the nation. This is much better than the Bush/Rove "50% plus 1 gives us the right to trample all over the wishes of 50% minus 1."

Finally: if you think we live in a socialist country you need to (1) get out more; (2) read more; (3) think more; and (4) spend less time posting ignorant comments on websites.

  10. People bought the HOPE and CHANGE hype Obama was selling yes in part because they did not like what Bush was doing either. Bush was not a true conservative either now was he? Stop using Bush for your excuses, our Country is on a fast decline. Bush was bad and Obama somehow trumped that with being evern worse running this country into the ground. The 17 year old was correct in his assumptions and should be commended for paying attention to politics and seeing as it is and not as his party tells him to see it. You should listen to your own three step advice my friend. Debate and stop the hate and then you will be respected even if your views differ from mine and others.

  11. Obama misrepresented himself during the 2008 election. He ran as a centrist, despite his senate run. Most people believed him, especially considering John McCain was running against him. He is crashing our economy and news outlets such as CBS blatantly lying about events is not helping the American people. By the way, the national park service estimated around 300,000 people. I could see CBS reporting 200,000. 87,000? Thats just a blatant lie. Why is CBS so scared of this movement? Why sweep it under the rug? It threatens to undermine the progressive agenda.
