Indonesia Tsunami 2010: Casualties, Damage, Death Toll

Indonesia Tsunami 2010: Casualties, Damage, Death Toll The tsunami from Indonesia has wreaked massive devastation. In addition to the tsunami, the volcano eruption has also caused another element of destruction in that particular Pacific Rim nation.

The tsunami was caused by an offshore earthquake. The tsunami was 10 foot (3m) high, and hit about the same region that had been impacted by another tidal wave not too long ago.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the death toll has reached over 441, while the Christian Science Monitor reports that a baby has been found alive.

There are still hundreds missing, and thousands displaced. Those missing are feared washed out in to the sea.

There is a video below which updates the status of the casualties, damage, and death toll experienced by the Indonesia tsunami 2010.

New Zealand Earthquake 2010 Affects Kiwis

The New Zealand earthquake in 2010 was a 7.4 on the Richter scale, and has caused significant property and infrastructure damage, but has not caused any reported deaths or serious injuries.  This is only the most recent earthquake to strike in the world.

The event transpired at about 4:34 am local time on Saturday morning. The quake doesn't pose any tsunami threats.

About 75% of the city of Christchurch in New Zealand is without power after the earthquake.  The incident caused sewer and water lines to break, and as such residents are advised to conserve water, avoid traveling unnecessarily, and check on neighbors.

Those that have travel plans to Christchurch may be disappointed as the quake has closed the airport.  Aftershocks, including one that was over 5 on the Richter scale, were felt.

The worst earthquake in New Zealand was on January 23, 1855 - roughly 15 years after European colonization began in 1840. It was an 8.2 on the Richter scale.

Canada Earthquake 2010 a 5.0 Earthquake Affects Toronto and Beyond

Toronto, Canada is hardly an earthquake destination.  The Toronto Canada 5.0 earthquake took place on Wednesday, and it was felt in many places around Ontario and Quebec, as well as throughout many cities in the United States.  There were reports of feeling tremors from Saginaw, Michigan, New York City, Chicago, and throughout many states in the Midwest.

The earthquake did not cause any deaths, and the damage is not reported as widespread.  The northernmost cities are lucky as they appeared to have dodged a bullet.

The time of the earthquake was about 1:45 PM when people were in their offices working.  Many in New York City feared that the earthquake was something else, but were relieved when it was noticed that they were only tremors.

Although unusual, the seismic activity did happen around a fault.  This served as a reminder to those in the area that they are living in an earthquake zone.  This area will have earthquakes every so many years.

This year it seems as if the earth is moving a lot.  Starting from the earthquake in Haiti and going on to the major quake in Chile, there have been numerous tremors felt worldwide. The earthquake in Chile was even responsible for a tidal wave in Hawaii which did not cause any casualties or damage.

Fortunately, the damage was not like that seen in areas harder hit by earthquakes such as Chile and Haiti.

Toronto Earthquakes 2010 A 5.0 Quake Shakes Canada

Earthquakes in 2010 have been numerous, and the Toronto Canada quake is only the latest natural disaster. The earthquake in Toronto was strong, and was even felt in parts of Michigan, Chicago, and even Maine. The epicenter was situated in Quebec, at a depth of 12 miles.

The earthquake could have come at a worse time in Canada. A very important political event is set to take place in the city, as the G-20 and G-8 leaders are set to visit Toronto for important meetings next week. If this would have happened during the summit, it would have been a much bigger issue.

The strange thing about this earthquake is that it comes in a region of the world that isn't used to seismic activity. Many of the earthquakes felt this year have come in areas that are used to having the activity such as the Pacific Rim, California, Latin America, and Haiti.

So far there haven't been any reports of loss of life. Damage also isn't reported as being widespread. There's no significant damage and this is in no way a repeat of the earthquakes in Chile or Haiti. Hopefully the region dodged a bullet and won't continue to feel the activity.

Many people in the United State reported feeling the quake. From Saginaw Michigan to New York City and Chicago, it seems like the whole region felt the tremors. Aftershocks will be likely for the next couple of days.
