FIFA World Cup 2010 Championship Final Match

The FIFA World Cup 2010 championship final match will take place on July 11, with the 3rd place game taking place on July 10. This weekend will end the month-long journey that is the World Cup soccer tournament, which only comes around once every four years.

The championship round will be between the Netherlands and Spain. Germany and Uruguay will play for 3rd place.

The Netherlands was able to take Brazil out of the running, and they were the #1 FIFA ranked team. Spain is #2, although Brazil stole the #1 slot from them before the World Cup began. The Dutch team is on fire, and this could be the year where the Netherlands pulls through and wins the championship for themselves.

Of course, a win by Spain wouldn't be surprising either. Their program is a very strong one and has always been favored to make it to the championship round. If they have their A-Game the day of the championship, then they will easily slip through to the win.

Germany and Uruguay will also be a great match up in the tournament as well. Third place isn't the championship but ending up in the top three out of 32 countries is a great accomplishment for any country.

The US was knocked out in the quarterfinals. No one thought they would make it past that round anyways. However, their program is getting stronger and stronger each year, as the team gains more and more support from the US.

World Cup 2010 Finals - Dutch Advance to World Cup Championships

The World Cup 2010 finals are coming up soon, and the Dutch team has advanced to the championship match. The team from the Netherlands has been credited with eliminating the #1 ranked team in the FIFA rankings. For those that don't know which team that is, it's Brazil.

Brazil had planned on winning the 2010 World Cup title, that way they could be the reigning champions when the tournament came to their company in 2014.

Their winning streak continues, as they defeated Uruguay yesterday with a final score of 2-3. Today, Spain will take on Germany in the quest for determining who will face the Dutch team in the championship round.

We've come a long way. Many had previously expected Brazil and Spain to meet up in the final rounds, but that didn't transpire. Spain is still in the running, and if they can pull off a win against Germany tomorrow then the #2 team will have their chance at becoming the true #1.

Whoever makes it to the championship match will have their work cut out for them. If the Dutch can beat both Brazil and Uruguay, then they are a tougher contender than they let on earlier in the championship.

Today's game between Spain and Germany will take place at 2:30 PM EDT and will be broadcast on ESPN. Don't forget to watch these last couple of games, as it will be four more years before the tournament is available again.

World Cup 2010 Live Soccer Schedule and Brackets

World Cup live soccer continues as the 2010 tournament is nearing completion.  This year's World Cup was unique in that it is the first time that the African continent was able to host the event.  South Africa is the place, and June 11 thru July 11 are the dates.

32 teams started the tournament, and now only 8 remain. The United States has been out of the running, but the hype surrounding the tournament has not died down.

Perhaps the most shocking upset of the 2010 World Cup was Brazil being eliminated before the final round.  Brazil was #1 in the FIFA rankings and was favored to win this year's tournament.  The championship match was estimated to be between Brazil and Spain - the #1 and #2 ranked teams per the FIFA rankings.

The Semi-final rounds take place this week as there are only three matches left in the entire tournament.  Tomorrow, the Netherlands will take on Uruguay.

The Dutch team was responsible for taking out Brazil.  The Netherlands and Uruguay will meet tomorrow at 2:30 PM EDT.

The next semi-final game will be between Germany and Spain on Wednesday at 2:30 PM EDT.  The winners of each of these games will go on to the championship match where the World Cup 2010 winner will be crowned.

If we had to make predictions, we'd venture to say that the Netherlands and Spain will meet up during the finals.  Of course at this point Spain is favored to win as they are the highest ranked team, but as we saw with the Netherlands-Brazil game there could be an upset along the way.

With only four teams left in the bracket, there's a 25% chance of winning for each team.  We are down to the wire, folks with not much left go go.

World Cup 2010 Quarterfinal Results and Bracket Updates

The World Cup 2010 tournament continues, and the quarterfinal results are pouring in.  The tournament is coming in to its last days, and the quarterfinals bring us eight teams that are trying to make it to the semi finals.  When the tournament started, there were 32 teams.  Slowly, many - the US included - have been eliminated.

Today's matches brought us one in particular that was won because of penalty kicks.  Uruguay won over Ghana 4:2 simply because of penalty kicks.  The two teams had a 1:1 tie ... meaning that it was anyone's game.  These are shocking results that left many in awe as the only African team that went into the final rounds is now out of the running.

Perhaps the most shocking thing that happened in the World Cup quarterfinals is Brazil getting knocked out by the Netherlands.  The Dutch beat the #1 seeded Brazil 2:1 during their match.

This means that everyone's expectations of a match between Brazil and Spain in the finals just isn't going to happen.

Are we really all that surprised that Brazil is out of the game? After their lackadaisical performance when they played North Korea, many knew that this wasn't the team that would win the World Cup in 2010.  Too many other teams WANT the honor.  The Brazilian team kind of took it for granted that they were among the best there.

The world cup quarter finals continue today.  After the quarter final are over, we move to the semi-final rounds  It's hard to believe that this month long even is almost over! Then, it's getting ready for Rio de Janeiro that will matter to these teams.

World Cup 2010 Schedule and Bracket for Quarterfinals

The 2010 World Cup tournament will take a break for a couple of days, as players are preparing for the quarterfinals. We've gone from 32 World Cup contenders down to the final eight. Unfortunately, Team USA is not in the mix.

The quarterfinals will include the following matches which will take place on July 2 and July 3:

Netherlands vs Brazil - July 2nd at 9:00 AM CDT
Uruguay vs Ghana - July 2nd at 1:30 PM CDT

Argentina vs Germany - July 3rd at 9:00 AM CDT
Paraguay vs Spain - July 3rd at 1:30 PM CDT

As you can see, the top two teams ranked by FIFA, Brazil and Spain, are both still in the mix. Many expect a Brazil vs Spain final, and such an event would be high profile. The two teams have been going back and forth as the #1 and #2 teams, with Brazil currently in the lead.

Brazil will also host the 2014 games, so if they are then the defending champions that would be great. Soccer is very important to this country, as it is with many other Latin American and European countries.

The World Cup will go on until July 11, so we are getting closer and closer to the end. Once over, the World Cup won't come around again until 2014 in Rio de Janeiro.

Team USA was taken out of the mix, although their soccer program keeps getting better. Soccer is gaining popularity in the States, where other sports such as baseball and basketball and football have been more popular.

World Cup 2010 Schedule and Bracket Update

The World Cup 2010 is in the round of 16. There are many interesting matches that will transpire, and after today's matches there will be a two day break before games resume. This will allow the players to rest and the fans to get some chores done around the house without worrying about missing a crucial match.

The first game of the day is Japan vs Paraguay. The game should be pretty interesting.  Many figure that Paraguay will win, but Japan is a tough team in its own right.  Both seek to move on to the quarterfinals, and neither will let the other team just slip right in.  The game takes place at 9:00 AM CDT on ESPN.

The second game of the day is Spain vs Portugal.  Make no mistake - Spain is favored to win.  Spain previously held the #1 slot in the FIFA rankings, but before the World Cup tournament, Brazil snuck in and took that honor.  Spain is still favored to win over Portugal, although an upset in this match wouldn't be as much of a shocker as in some circles.  The match takes place at 1:30 CDT on ESPN.

The winners of today's matches will go on to the quarter final game which will be played on July 3rd at 1:30 PM CDT on ESPN.

Yesterday's matches brought Argentina and Germany into the quarterfinals, and the two countries will face off against each other on July 3rd at 9:00 AM CDT on ESPN

World Cup 2010 Soccer and Bracket, FIFA Score Updates

The World Cup 2010 soccer match continues, as second round bracket and score updates are available.  The 2010 FIFA World Cup will continue on in the coming weeks, and every match now is one match closer to finding out who is the winner.  Each time someone loses, they are now eliminated from the tourney.

Yesterday's matches included Germany vs England and Argentina vs Mexico.  The final scores for these matches were 4:1 and 3:1, respectively.  This means that England and Mexico will now return home with their shot at the 2010 World Cup Tile over.

Today's matches include: Netherlands vs Slovakia and Brazil vs Chile.

It's expected that Brazil will win, but can you imagine if that is not the case? The upset will be a big deal in the world of soccer, as they are currently the #1 seeded team and the team that will host the 2014 event.  I think that the Dutch will have an edge over Slovakia.

Tomorrow, Paraguay will take on Japan and Spain vs. Portugal will take place.  Spain is ranked #2, and going into the World Cup, a Brazil vs Spain final was predicted.  The likelihood of that match taking place is quite slim, if the World Cup is anything like the NCAA March Madness.

It's sad that the World Cup only happens once every four years.  It's a multinational deal, and it's one of the most widely watched tournaments that there is.  It's one of world news' best sporting events, second only to the Olympics in my opinion.

2010 FIFA World Cup Sweet 16 Bracket Updates

Today was the 2010 FIFA World Cup first day of the second rounds of the tournament. This time, the loser of each match is eliminated, meaning it was a sad day for two teams. One of those teams was team USA, and it was a very sad day for Americans and USA fans around the world.

The Americans loss against Ghana wasn't expected. Ghana was the only African team to make it into the round of 16, which it's good that at least one African team made it to the rounds given that the tournament is being hosted on their continent for the first time ever.

Ghana scored 2 points to USA's one, and the game was won during overtime. This made the suspense grow even more as the tournament unfolded.

The other match that took place today was Uruguay vs South Korea. The South Koreans will go home after they lost one to two to Uruguay.

Sunday's matches include Germany vs England and Argentina vs Mexico. (Argentina vs Mexico airs on ABC, while Germany vs England airs on ESPN.)

Many think that Brazil will be the winner of the tournament, as they are at the top of the FIFA rankings. They are also the hosts of the 2014 games, which will take place in Rio de Janeiro. Brazil will meet up with Chile on June 28th at 2:30 PM EDT on ESPN. Brazil has had some mixed performances, and one misstep could cost them the title.
